If you're driving (as opposed to getting dropped off), COME EARLY. The most convenient paid lot is located at 230 Ted Turner Drive, and Parking Level A is the right floor. Make your way to the front entrance of the AmericasMart building and walk outside the door, the restaurant entrance is right there. The hostess was pleasant and attentive, and so was our server! My martini was perfect. The food is fresh and flavorful, the dark blue tones are corporate and classy but still pretty contemporary, and the furniture is comfortable. It's a great experience, especially for lunch. My favorite dishes so far...the tuna tartare, crab cake, and salmon risotto. If you're in the area, try it! read more

We really wanted to love this spot. Our server was fabulous! She was attentive, knowledgeable and super friendly. She gave some great recommendations for drinks and dishes as well. Even the busser guy who assisted with picking up plates and grinding the black pepper, was beyond AWESOME, he was just so friendly and helpful, it was truly an A+++ for the servers and service. Now the real reason for the rating. (If it was a separate rating for servers, they would be the full 5 stars). The Bacon appetizer..... This was NOT GOOD. It was chewy like Jerky and was not what we expected from a place that considers itself fine dining. The Whipped potatoes were anything but whipped. They were thick and clumpy and dry. We ordered two helpings and almost a whole helping was given away to the homeless with our leftover steaks The rolls were very good; more butter should be served with them. But they were fresh, hot and hit the spot. Now for the steaks......... When you go to a steak house, you expect seasoning to be spot on. If you have the pallet that needs to add salt or pepper, so be it, but the base should be seasoned enough where that isnt really an issue unless youre someone who likes extra. None of us (and there were 4 of us) had a seasoned steak. NONE OF US!!! It was bland and tasted like grilled meat with no flavor. The ribeye fatty part was not able to be cut with a steak knife. The filet mignon was flavorless and even though we rubbed butter from our rolls on it, it didn't make it better. The best things we ordered was the carrots. Those were phenomenal! The Asparagus we ordered was good, nothing fabulous, but it was fine. The overall disappointment of this evening was also how hot it was inside the restaurant. The poor staff is fully dressed in button up shirts and ties and as a patron I was dying wearing a sun dress, I can't imagine how hot they were, but we were literally sweating. They said they requested the air be turned up and I saw them attempt to raise it, but it did nothing. It was truly uncomfortable and not what you expect from a fine dining experience. Lastly, the rest of the disappointment, I ordered the spicy chocolate martini (Good martini) for my dessert. I asked since it was so hot in the dining area if I could enjoy it in the lounge. They said, "Of Course", only to get to the "lounge" and be told I had to stand until if and when a bar seat becomes available. So now my entire party had to stand with me in the bar area until I finished my drink. The truth of the matter was, it didn't make a difference, because the lounge, bar area was just as hot as the dining area. I would consider going elsewhere if you want a comfortable spot to eat with a delicious steak, this place missed on both fronts. If you want some delicious carrots, definitely go here! Overall cost to our table was over $700 and each of us boxed up our meals to give to the homeless. We found someone right outside and I'm sure he will really enjoy it but we truly felt robbed. read more

If you're visiting Atlanta and looking for a good downtown restaurant, Ray's in the City is worth the visit. Good food, steaks and seafood, a relaxed atmosphere, and a nice bar scene. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars. I'm a native Atlantan, but this was actually my first time here. I grew up with a mom who cooked, and when I eat out, I usually stick to familiar places around my area. So I'm still discovering some of Atlanta's longtime staples myself. I went with four coworkers while we were downtown for a convention. We arrived before the rush, were seated quickly, and had great service. Our host was a bit of a comedian, but after a long workday, we ended up laughing and having a good time. The wedge salad was delicious, especially the dressing and blue cheese crumbles. The braised beef short rib was very good, although it's something I could make at home. The crab cake was exceptional a little small, but I'll trade size for high-quality crab meat any day. The macaroni and cheese, however, was horrible. I'm not trying to be unkind, but we're in the South. Come on, y'all. That mac and cheese needs an upgrade. One coworker had the surf and turf with filet mignon and lobster tail, and it looked delicious. My phone was at 5%, so no food photos from me--I had to save enough battery to get my Uber home! But clearly, there are plenty of photos from everyone else. I read some reviews before going and thought a few were overly harsh, especially complaints about a 15-20 minute wait. For a popular downtown restaurant, I don't find that unreasonable. If you're willing to have a little patience, don't let those reviews scare you away. I also loved the character of the building. Downtown Atlanta is having a resurgence, and this space has those good bones and unique flow you don't always find in newer restaurants. read more

Rays serves delicious food, but the service is absolutely not fine dining. If you have a reservation, that is not worth much. Even on a Monday evening at 7:45pm we were not seated until 20+ minutes past our scheduled time. We also made the reservation for my birthday, and nobody did anything to even say Happy Birthday. I understand not carding to notice, but in the reservation notes I did expect some sort of special nod, not even a free dessert, just an acknowledgement? The waiting area is atrocious, they were busy and crowded and obviously overbooked. It was a nightmare. The door made a horrible noise every time someone entered and exited. The staff was constantly trying to get (push) through the masses of people with limited success. The seating area was a fighting ground amongst the AmericasMart ladies. There was a server taking drink orders, but not in a hurry, and clearly was taking care of certain patrons before others. The servers were also pretty overwhelmed and unable to provide a true full-service meal. While I liked our wine, steak, and cocktails, the entire experience left so much room for improvement that it was apparent I may not return. Modern and welcoming steakhouse interior greets you at Ray's. I started with Naa's parker house rolls, then moved on to the Delmonico ribeye for the main, with a side of fries. I gave stars because our server was good. The food however broke my heart. We expected the same quality as Rays on the River. It was not. I feel like the kitchen was rushing. If you do not prefer to cook later then please do not offer late reservations. We ordered the raw oysters which were great, the calamari was rushed with high heat so it was burnt, the brussel sprouts were not cooked on the inside, the mushrooms were good, the salmon was good, the snapper was overcooked and the potatoes were undercooked twice. When you rush using high heat delicate food will be overcooked and hard things will be undercooked. The manager did not come to the table, but discounted the bill after talking to the server. First trip to Atlanta for work and we came here for dinner. It was a pre fixe menu but each dish was great! They have done interesting cocktails and my favorite was What's the Catch (vodka, passion fruit, lime) it was a little too sweet for me, but it also packed a punch. The New York Strip was cooked Medium (I should have specifically asked for medium rare!) the She Crab soup, brussel sprouts, carrots, and mac and cheese were so good. My Ray's experience was mixed. My reservation for one was honored with minimal wait on a very busy weekday evening ( ANCC Magnet Conference = 13,000 of my nurse colleagues). I was pleasantly seated at a corner table with a nice view of the dining room. Service initially attentive. I ordered simply and clearly, a cocktail and no rush on my entree. Sadly, about 23 minutes in my entree arrived, and I inquired about my drink. Response was not apologetic, simply a you can see we are busy tonight, I'll go check on it. How unfortunate! The blackened fish with crabmeat, grits, and a wonderful buttery sauce was cooked to perfection. My Negroni, ordered Tuscan style with Amaro instead of vermouth was also excellent, but sadly was not well paired with the meal. Well - I've just found my new favourite restaurant in the world and the meal I would request as my last meal on earth! 5/5. I'd give it 10/5 if I could! We flew into Atlanta last night and this restaurant was close to our hotel. The menu looked good so we decided to check it out. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely decorated. They have nice lighting and use a wine display as decoration. Our server was delightful. He was so friendly and joked around with us a lot. He took our order and brought our food and drinks in a timely fashion. Now to the best part! The food! Every single thing we ordered was a 10/10! It was delicious and some of the best food I've ever eaten! We started with the meatballs with truffle ricotta and the burrata cheese. Both were fantastic but those meatball were divine! For mains we ordered the petite fillet with Brussel sprouts and truffle fries. We also got the short rib. The steak was melt-in-your mouth fantastic and had a ton of truffle butter on top. It also came with char grilled onions that complimented it so well. The sides were exceptional. I have zero complaints about any of the food! It was all SO good! For dessert we had the lemon butter cake and crème brûlée. Also amazing. Zero complaints! I love crème brûlée and this was one of the best I've ever had. The crust was perfectly crunchy and golden! Sunday early dinner. First time at the location used the parking recommendation they provided in their website so that was helpful. I don't normally venture out to the city so I did have to go thru a rough part of town to get here & the location is near the Westin and AmericasMart. Greeted and seated quickly from the hostess. And our server Taylor was great. Very informative & accommodating. The 4 star was more personal as they do offer you a delicious warm house rolls but they charge you for these 2 rolls. Super disappointing. Have been to Ray's over 50 times--tonight, the 25 min wait for my reservation, the 9$ "still" water charge I thought was just going to be basic tap I never drank, the bright red RARE steak I received --ordered medium (waiter acknowledged it was too rare, yet didn't comp or discount), the meh everything for $150+ for ONE person. Bernaise is now poured all over the steak instead of in a separate ramekin, praline basket is now off the menu too--boo! One salad, one petite meh undercooked filet, 2 cocktails--150$. The worst part? The warm washcloth at the end that smelled like sewer, and the live police activity outside the restaurant front door on Peachtree. What a sad experience at one of my long-term Atlanta market favorites. Cancelling our next two reservations during this market. read more

Being from MD, I was scared to try the crab cake. The food was pretty good, I'll say better than decent but could've been better. Especially a $45 piece of salmon. The sauce was tasty but my salmon was overcooked as well as the asparagus. I asked for it med well. The mashed potatoes, flavorful, nothing to write home about. While a ribeye is one of my favorite steaks, I seldom order it, as even good steakhouses just don't seem to get it quite right a lot of times. I mentioned this to my server when he recommended it, and he said without hesitation that I would not be disappointed. I'm glad I listened. Our work team of 6 stopped in for an early dinner at Ray's since it was close to our hotel. First impressions were good. The restaurant was not crowded as it was early evening. The vibe was elegantly understated. I had the crab cakes with asparagus, but opted for Jalepeno cheese grits instead of the whipped mashed potatoes. The crab cakes were an 8/10, the grits a 10/10, and the asparagus a 1/10. Seriously, a restaurant with this price point should have quality produce ... or remove it from the menu. My meal was good, but not $50 good. Several of us ordered adult beverages in addition to water. My $8 Guinness tasted stale and old. I left it on the table mostly full. The lemon drop martini my friend ordered was outstanding. The service was overly attentive but still fell short. A colleague had a beer poured on her dress by a server. Not a huge deal, but they should have at least comped the beer as her dress smelled like beer the rest of the evening. Also, we didn't realize that we ordered flat water vs tap water so the bill for $9 a bottle was a shocker. Adding a 20% automatic gratuity to the bill was the final straw. Beautiful restaurant. It's been years since I've been. Outside is dicey but inside is classy. Was here for a business function. The server, T, was fab and on point. She commanded the room, explained the menu, and was knowledgeable and provided EXCELLENT service. T was amazing and should be lauded for her customer service. I ordered the delmonico. Flavor was ok but it was overcooked (ordered medium came out well). Not sure if it was because there were 20+ folks they were being careful. A few thoughts... Food was great, minus the hard cold "whipped potatoes". Positive for the food, that aside, I will never go back to nor recommend this place. Service, trash! Parking/valet trash! Went for a birthday party dinner for my friend from out of town. Let's start with valet. It's $40. Forty Dollars! I don't think I've ever paid that much for valet. They tell you to text 678-381-3827 when you are ready to leave so they can bring your car to you. They don't. Since no one was in the restaurant, the only people parked was our party and we were all parked and lined up right in front of the restaurant. I sent a text as directed, it said delivered. No one responded. We get outside and see all of our cars lined up. We try to enter, the cars were all locked. No one around giving directives. No one said anything beforehand, and we sent a text no response. We waited a bit until someone decided to try to find the valet stand. There's a guy at the valet stand texting and talking on the phone instead of having the keys for all the cars as we sent the text messages. We had to walk uphill to find him doing nothing while we're looking for our car keys after spending $40! $50 for me at the time.... He should've been standing there with all the keys in his hand ready to hand them over. I said to him, I sent the text message 10mins ago, what happened? He responds "Oh did you?" then proceeded to check, and then said "Oh sorry." Like what? To put icing on the cake, instead of being charged $40, they charged me $50. I see later before I could crazy, the $10 overcharge was credited. They did quickly rectify it but I was still annoyed that the transaction overcharged me in the first place. How do you mess that up? Trash. Moving on, It was 12 of us. The restaurant was not crowded/full/packed whatsoever. Several empty tables. That said, our server did not have a full load and she had assistance from what seems like a very green server learning, which is fine, but none of them could get our table taking care of. Let's also remember 20% auto gratuity of course, trash service or not... Our servers name was Tee. Ms.Tee was not the best. She had an attitude that was not called for, for no reason, and since she was already get paid handsomely by our group, couldn't care less how our meal/experience was handled. I asked for a drink multiple times had to ask again to get it, meanwhile everyone at the table is thirsty. No water refills until the 3rd or 4th ask. The mash was cold and dry. Someone's husband waited for his drink 20mins at the table, it was too much. In conclusion, this is a no for me and the group. If I could get a refund for this nonsense, I would regardless if the food was good, nothing against the chef, everything else regarding service, horrible experience. My husband and I came here for our 27 year anniversary. We were visiting from out of town. We were able to walk here from our hotel, only a block away. There are a lot of homeless people around and we were approached 3-4 times in the one block walk. I believe they have a dress code because of this, but they do not enforce a dress code since there was a man in shorts at the table next to us. The waitress was very nice. She brought us each a glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. My husband ordered the shrimp scampi and I ordered the twin lobster tails. The entrees don't come with sides, so we ordered a side of truffle frites (French fries with a side of truffle sauce) to share. The sides are for 2-4 people, so very big. The fries were good, but it came with very little of the truffle sauce and it ran out. Unfortunately they brought out the lobster carbonara instead of the shrimp scampi, so we had to wait a little while for them to prepare the shrimp scampi. It came out pretty quickly. The lobster was very good. I was very happy with it. Our bill was about $200. I would return again. The restaurant is actually one of the more affordable ones in the area. read more

Ray's in the City is a name that I had wrongly assumed would be underwhelming. I try not to pre-judge before I go to any restaurant for the first time, unless of course, it's because of the hype being so high. In this case, I was not only surprised, but realized I had not been very open minded. I acknowledge how much better the food and atmosphere were compared to my expectations. The atmosphere itself was extremely busy for a Tuesday night. The place was jammed, and people seemed happy and conversational throughout. It wasn't too loud at all, but the vibe was all around you. The food was really good. As I was attending an event with a slightly scaled back menu, I can't fully speak to the gamut of the food offered, but I can say that everything I ate was fresh, well balanced and well executed. I enjoyed tasting everything from the grouper to the lamb chops. Those people around me noted that the steaks and crab cakes were wonderful as well. When I am downtown in the future, I will certainly consider going back! read more

We go there yearly. They are under new ownership this year and some of the changes were frustrating The rest of the group enjoyed their food 1. Website shows child menu. Now deleted. Their suggestion for 3 yr old granddaughter was Mac and cheese 2. Requested splitting one meal between 2 people. Their answer was they would give extra plate but don't do the splitting 3. Butter: on salt free diet. But they only have salted butter 4. Other items were out of stock Am I being picky? Maybe, but the new management doesn't seem customer focused anymore? read more

We were staying at the Hilton Hotel nearby and my husband booked a dinner reservation at this place because it was within walking distance. It was an excellent decision because the dinner was fabulous. The ambiance is very nice with plenty of tables nicely spaced apart. The menu offers raw seafood appetizers, ten other appetizers, soups and salads, ten seafood entrees, daily fish options, and five steak options. Our server indicated the horseradish crusted black grouper was her favorite dish so I went with her recommendation. I am so glad I did because it was absolutely delicious. The Brussel sprouts that came with it were also great. My husband had the Alaskan halibut with lemon-butter sauce, along with roasted asparagus. He also loved his meal. We tried another 2 places downtown but they were sorely lacking and ended back here for the second time in the same week. This place is a definite return on my next visit. I only briefly popped in here to take advantage of a special they had coordinated with my gym. I had a slice of the meat lovers pizza and a side greek salad. The salad was great, lots of olives (which I love, particularly kalamatas). I enjoyed the pizza as well, it was fresh and hot and had plenty of toppings, not scarce like some places can be. I prefer a thicker, more bready crust (not necessarily deep dish, which is my favorite) and this is/was definitely more on the thin side. The atmosphere appeared to be quite nice as well. No frills, but it's a pizza place soooooooo how many frills do you want/need!? Overall, I'd possibly return if I'm in the area and craving pizza. They also do serve more than just pizza, and there is a bar , because the only thing better than pizza is pizza and a beer ! read more

The bacon was so smoky and flavorful and the dressing was wonderful. I had the crusted black grouper and the Dijon horseradish sauce was divine. The brussel sprouts under the fish were yummy as well. My husband and I came for Friday night dinner. I got the grab cakes and he got a NY strip with fries. They were both delicious! For dessert we got the warm butter cake. Yesterday, Saturday, March 7 my sister and I came in around noon to grab some lunch. The bartender was Renika, and she was fantastic! We were the only people at the bar at the time and she made sure we had every single thing that we needed, we had the best conversation, and overall just the best time! I had the she crab soup, brussels sprouts, and a crabcake. The brussels sprouts!? I'm a brussels sprout connoisseur and I will say they are definitely top five for me. My sister had the chicken cutlet and the creamed spinach and she loved it. Management even came out to say hi. It was more of an impromptu lunch, but Renika made it so memorable and fun! I ordered The Hot Platter from Rays in the City thru DoorDash and for the $130 I paid (because on DoorDash, Rays charges almost $10 more than if you get from restaurant)) and the Hot platter says it feeds 4 people. The portions I received barely feed 1. I also called the restaurant and asked that they make sure the sauces, condiments and utensils are included in bag. The lady who answered told me to tell my Dasher, which I did and still didn't get any of it. The cooks and front of house did the worst job ever preparing my Togo order and oh! I almost forgot.
