I'm not really sure what happened, this place has great reviews, but we didn't have a great experience today. I took 2 ladies out for Mother's Day, we all ordered steak... they were all under done. I asked for medium and mine came out barely edible. They also weren't very flavorful. The Mac and cheese seemed like something from a stove top, the shrimp also didn't have much flavor. The starter salad and dessert were great so I am giving this experience 3 stars... even though we were given forks to eat our ice cream with. It was our anniversary dinner tonight so it's a special deal. We arrived to a nice young man taking our car at valet. We were greeted by a manager and two host team members. They said happy anniversary to us on the welcome. The manager sat us and was so kind and engaged with us. We sat on the yard overlooking the river. The beauty and ambiance 5 star. Aaron our server was kind, professional, attentive and gave us space as needed. We asked his recommendations for drinks and food. He was spot on. Please recognize Aaron for his service to us. The food and drinks were amazing. I had the surf and turf & my husband had the crab cake all prepared wonderfully. I highly recommend rays and we totally thank you. We both manage restaurants for work and you know how hard a work day is right now w staffing and business booming. It was an escape for us and we greatly appreciate it. This is one of my favorite restaurants that I've been to. My boyfriend and I made a reservation during the day so we could experience a restaurant that wasn't near our house. Based on the pictures it looked like a pretty fancy place but we were still blown away by how nice it was when we got there. We were severely underdressed to be seated inside so we sat outside on the patio around the firepit. I didn't have any complaints about sitting outside because it was a beautiful day and we had a nice view of the river. Our waiter was exceptionally pleasant as she told us about their menu and gave us time to look over what drinks and dishes we wanted. We started off with a couple cocktails and ordered the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp as a starter before we determined which entrees we were going to order. I was in the mood for pasta so I got the Shrimp Scampi & Linguine Pasta while my boyfriend got the New York Strip & Shrimp. When the food was brought to the table our mouths started watering. It was prepared and plated so beautifully we just knew it was going to taste amazing. The pasta was seasoned to perfection and the shrimps were big enough to satisfy the shrimp to pasta ratio. I had a taste of the New York Strip, which was on par as well. I couldn't eat it all so I asked for a box before we paid the bill. Afterwards, we walked down the stairs and on the path next to the river. It was so calm and relaxing and just an amazing place to eat amazing food. I LOVED Ray's on the River. I came here with my boyfriend for his birthday and they were so mindful of that and everyone on staff who saw that it was his birthday made sure to say happy birthday. Our servers David and Randall were amazing and took such great care of us. They answered all of our questions and had everything out to us quickly! Excellent food and SUPERB service. We went here for NYE and had a wonderful time. The ambience was beautifully set and the music was so enjoyable!!! We loved our food: my husband had the surf and turf and I had the honey glazed salmon. There was some back and forth with my salmon being cooked thoroughly but the waiter - Ryan - and also the Manager - Shannon- were spectacular about accommodating us and making our experience absolutely awesome. Wonderful dining experience!! Great ambiance, perfect place for individual dining or social events. The view of the river was spectacular since the water level was high and swiftly flowing. This was a business event with 13 people. The area we were place in was perfect, away from the main diners with privacy but a wonderful view. Our server was wonderful, he was friendly, professional, and ready to make suggestions as needed. We were never neglected although we had a large group for one server. Although on the pricey side every entree was large and delicious. Our group had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. I came to Ray's with my family since I got a gift card from a friend. Boy am I glad I got a gift card to this restaurant! Excellent service, delicious food, helpful and genuine sommelier who isn't just trying to steer you to super expensive bottles, and a great atmosphere. We started with cocktails, oysters Rockefeller, and the New Orleans BBQ shrimp. All delicious options and worth the order. We all got variations on surf and turf for dinner. The filets were cooked perfectly (I'm picky and like mine rare - they did a great job on the temperature) and the scallops and lobster were perfect. We wanted a bottle of wine with dinner but aren't into really expensive or unusual wine. The sommelier was great and listened to what we were interested in. He steered us toward an excellent bottle of Merlot that I would 100% buy again. We all enjoyed it and it went well with our food. The desserts were also all very good. The praline basket was my favorite by far, but all were enjoyable. I recommend Ray's for a nicer night out. You definitely won't be disappointed if you like steak and seafood. read more

The waitress was average and left a lot to desire. I had the crab cakes along with their Riverside Cosmo. Both were delicious and are recommended. Yesterday I went to have lunch. I have always liked this restaurant. Made a reservation but when I got there they brought me to my table, but the table had the sun directly on my seat. I ask to change tables and the lady that brought me to the table refused to do it. The restaurant was 1/3 empty and she still refuse to do it until another person had to step in and gave me another table. Afterwards proceeded to order lunch and ordered the lobster roll which was one of the most expensive items in the lunch menu. Very disappointing. Mostly bread (brioche) and lobster was very dry. Was supposed to be in butter but I think they forgot to add the butter. The only reason I gave them a 3 stars is because the waiter was very pleasant otherwise will give them a 1 star. I've heard so much about Ray's on the River for years, but have never been. I've been to Ray's Killer Creek a few times and enjoyed it, but it has been a long time. My wife and I arrived for our reservation on time and we were seated fairly promptly. There was a good vide with some live music from the bar area. Good Covid protocols seemed to be followed. After we were seated, things went pretty bad for the next 45 minutes. I won't bore you with all the details, because that isn't the point of my review. So how can I have a 5 star review considering that comment? I'm a firm believer that people and things deserve a second chance. After our very bumpy first 45 minutes, I realized that my wife and I were about to let the issues ruin our date. But I decided not to throw in the towel. Instead I sought out the GM. When I had the opportunity to meet with Nick, the GM, I explained to him that things were not going well. Like with this review, I didn't get into the details. I simply explained that I would push the reset button if he agreed to make sure things went well from there. We had the crab cake appetizer, a Caesar salad, lobster bisk, and the scallops entree. Also had some pre-dinner bread. It was warm and served with soft butter...my favorite. All the food was amazing and the service was fantastic. The prices were more than fair. All in all a big win! I very much believe that in customer service, you are as much defined by how you handle issues. I'm assuming our initial issues were an exception, because how Nick and team responded was outstanding. I had a nice 8 year anniversary with my husband on April 2, 2019. We hadn't been since 2006 when we first started dating and my husband was shocked by the sticker price because we were still in our early 20s and he wasn't from GA so didn't know about the restaurant. I'd always been with my parents so I'd never paid and didn't know what to expect, just knew that the restaurant was really fancy. Needless to say, we went back to recreate memories with more money and less surprises. The food was great, it came out fast and the service was good. I don't recall service being above and beyond or I would have written about it sooner, but nothing terrible. We had a great seat right by the window, which created a nice romantic lunch date. (With 2 kids under 5, sometimes a lunch date is all you can get.) My meal: JUMBO LUMP CRAB CAKE. My husband previously had it at Rays on the City and recommended I get it and I am so glad I do. This was a phenomenal dish. The Beurre blanc sauce with the roasted corn relish was MAGNIFICO. Husband's meal: STEAK FRITES. He stated that the steak was very flavorful. He's a man of few words, so I will take it as a good thing. He didn't complain. We will definitely return. Maybe go back for brunch again. read more

Came here to celebrate Valentines dinner. Despite waiting almost an hour for the table, the drinks were superb. The gin sling (I don't even drink gin), the Maytag martini and frank family Cabernet were amazing. My husband and I ordered the cold seafood appetizer platter and it was thoughtfully presented and quality of seafood was superb. The filet and porterhouse, asparagus, cream corn (best thing I've ever had) was fantastic. The service from Murphy and David was astounding. And the best part was the management. Jon was superb. He brought us the most delicious butter cake and coffee. I will be talking about this meal for months. 5 stars to Rays On The River and the team. !!!!!!! read more

Rays fraudulently charged our credit card. Unfortunately the restaurant has not returned our calls to alert them to the overcharge so I am leaving a public review. On August 26, we were double charged for one of our meals (ie, billed for two expensive steaks when we only ordered one). We noticed the overcharge the next day and called the restaurant to alert them. We were told a manager would return our call, which never happened. We called back and left another message, but haven't been contacted in any way. Unfortunately, we must conclude that the overcharge was intentional, and management does not care to correct overcharges and are unwilling to even discuss. Buyer beware: Carefully review your bill, because they certainly won't address an your issue once you've left the restaurant. read more

The new manager has only been there 4 weeks, and indicated the menu will be updated next month - that good, because: There were only two fish on the menu: salmon & snapper, that's not enough choice for a seafood restaurant with such a good reputation. Oysters Blue Pointes were very tiny and low salinity. really? An interesting review ahead for Rays on the river... The service and the valet were wonderful. I had high expectations after reading the reviews of others before I came out. The website states that there is an enforced dress code but when we arrived there were people in jeans and t-shirts. (Which I would have totally worn btw) Now for the food... this evening I was not very impressed with the taste of the food. It's hard for me to write difficult reviews but I will never lie about food because I do love it. I opened my meal with the crab cake which was delicious and well prepared with fresh lump crab. I was excited to get the rest of my meal. The restaurant serves it's sides ala cart and I selected the asparagus, mashed potatoes, and four cheese mac and cheese. Inspired by the river I opted to have the pecan crusted trout and a glass of wine. We will talk more about the wine in a moment. My guest had the ribeye steak and we shared the sides. The presentation of the food left much to be desired for as my single trout was served in the center of a plain white plate with a tasteless sauce on the side in a metal container. Perhaps it was meant to be bearnaise? The trout was flavorless and needed a bit of seasoning to offset the pecan crust. The asparagus we had was served and it was giant asparagus that was not steamed properly and served with woody stems. It arrived covered in more of the yellow tasteless sauce. I was disappointed. I didn't finish my trout. The 16 oz ribeye was cooked properly, however the cut of meat was extremely nervy and not very tender. The mashed potatoes were not seasoned well and the mac and cheese left much to be desired. Rays carries an extensive wine list however when I tried to order a bottle of one of their Spanish wines, they did not have my first or second selection, nor did they have any other Spanish wines so I opted for a recommendation from our server which was ok, but not what I wanted. That's ok. After dinner I decided to take a look at the desert menu, nothing very interesting there so I just opted for a slice of red velvet cake that was supposed to have almond and amaretto icing (sounds delicious right?) Well...I'm afraid it wasn't...and I love cake. The restaurant does have it's finer points, mainly the beautiful view of the Chattahoochee river flowing by giant windows and gorgeous landscaping. The people were wonderful and servers and valet workers were very attentive, I just wish the food was better. Maybe next time Ray's. Thank you for your service and wonderful staff. read more

It been several years since I've been to Ray's on the River. My husband and I went to have a nice date night dinner to enjoy time for ourselves as a part of our Christmas gifts to each other. I expected to have an amazing dinner. My husband ordered the 12oz Filet. It was dry and not as tender as I would expect a $62 steak to be. It wasn't the best cut of filet. Very disappointing for the price paid. I ordered the grouper which was delicious! Based off our expectations for the prices paid for our dinner, I don't believe Ray's will be our first choice for a nice dinner again. read more

Just had dinner here, the food was good but I was very disappointed with the service. At one point I asked my server what was special about the rack of lamb and he said that they cooked it in a very condensing tone. He offered little advice throughout the dinner on what to order and was very short. Came here to celebrate my husband and I 29th anniversary. The atmosphere was spectacular with live music playing a beautiful view of a leak elegant table settings. It was extremely romantic and welcoming setting . We were greeted with a anniversary card and welcome and wait staff who offered us delicious champagne . First, my dinner reservation time wasn't honored. Took 22 minutes to seat us. Second, no one came to take our order after we got our apps. I was willing to stay and spend money but that doesn't seem to be a priority here. Third, took forever to leave since it took over 10 minutes to get my check. Ever now and then I just wanna be an adult and have a fancy dinner date night and decided to visit Ray's On the River for my birthday dinner. I hopped on OpenTable and was able to find a reservation for that evening which I was super happy about. Located off Powers Ferry, this beautiful restaurant sits right on the river and has amazing views from just about part of the restaurant. They do have valet but we opted to self-park since it was a pretty quiet Monday evening. The entryway leading to the doors was just reallly nice. I haven't been here since prom and Lord that was years ago so I'm sure they've updated the look since then. When we got to the hostess desk, Margaret was there to greet us and just had a very bubbly personality. I completely forgot we were in a fancy schmancy place. She made mention that they were able to fulfill the small request I placed in the reservation and we were seated right by the windo and the view was absolutely amazing. No sooner then we were seated did our waiter, Brian, introduce himself. He told us about the specials and suggested some food and drink options. I opted for some fruity drink (awesome) and we started off with BBQ shrimp and some ridiculously good blue chips. I'm sure I didn't need any of it but it was my birthday so I decided to eat up some good stuff. The shrimp was soooo good and it was drenched in BBQ sauce and the shrimp were soooo big. I then ordered the salmon oscar which came with asparagus, mashed potatoes, and lump crab andddddd it was soooooo good! Everything was seasoned soooo well and just full of flavor. They even surprised me with a nice sweet treat to end my birthday dinner. The service was awesome. The food was awesome. Everything was awesome.
