CHOPS DID IT AGAIN! I thought our first experience at Chops on August 17th celebrating my 79th birthday was simply amazing and hard to beat.  But our second time around this past Tuesday August 25th was absolutely dazzling.   We were seated at a booth in the same area as last time.  Our server came over and introduced himself as " Rodney" and immediately asked us if we were still celebrating my birthday.  He also wanted to know if we would like to start with the same cocktails we ordered last time and even named them. We asked how he knew that, and he said "I do my homework".  He then asked if we would also be ordering the same entrees as last time, the Dover Sole and the Pepper Steak.  This was blowing our minds as this was something we had never experienced when returning to a restaurant for a second time. We were amazed at how much he knew about our last visit.  And the funny thing is we both thought he bore a striking resemblance to a younger Denzel Washington and also had an uncanny way of sounding like him too.  He was very entertaining.  We also learned he has been in the restaurant business for 40 years and you could certainly tell all that experience has made him the ultimate professional with a charming personality.   We told Rodney we were going to try some new things out this time,  Previously, I had ordered an Old Fashioned with Woodford bourbon but noticed they had on the drink menu an Old Fashioned with Chops-selected Elijah Craig single barrel bourbon, their house demerara syrup with bitters on a single rock ice cube which I decided to try instead.  Rodney advised it was their most popular signature drink. After a few sips, I could see why, and it will now become my Chops go to cocktail .  My wife ordered a dry vodka martini with blue cheese olives which is her favorite. Shortly, Rodney's assistant, Harrison, brought us some of their delicious warm sourdough and raisin breads with fresh butter.  Harrison was very personable and after chatting for a few minutes we found out he was a triplet.   Next, we each ordered an All Jumbo Lump "Maryland Style" Crab Cake with lemon grain mustard emulsion (¼ lb), They turned out to have the most crab meat in a crab cake we have ever had, and when combined with the emulsion they were very scrumptious. We followed that with a Caesar salad that was split into two dishes for us and consisted of the tender yellow inside Romaine lettuce leaves and topped with delicious white anchovies.  Finally, we ordered their most popular side, the lightly batter-fried lobster bites, which were out of this world delectable. At $44 for a dish of four, they are meant to be shared, but as lobster lovers,  we ordered two dishes for a total of eight. It turned out that four would have been plenty, as they were very delicious but also filling. Since Rodney had mentioned we were still going to be celebrating my birthday, he brought me a complimentary rum raisin bread pudding which was just as fabulous as the last time.  This ended our dinner on a very high note.  Even though the restaurant was fairly busy and Rodney and Harrison were servicing other tables, they were always keeping an eye on our booth to see if we needed anything.  One thing my wife thought was fun was they kept bringing her more blue cheese olives which she loves.   We can honestly say, the service was again over the top excellent,  the food  extraordinarily delicious, and the elegant and warm atmosphere was perfect. read more

Chops is a Buckhead staple, but you don't always need to go heavy with a full steak to have a stellar meal here. We stopped in for a lighter dinner, and everything was executed flawlessly. The absolute highlight was the Maryland Style Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. It was pure, sweet lump crabmeat with virtually zero filler--just golden perfection sitting in that delicious mustard cream emulsion. I paired it with a fresh house salad and a side of broccolini, both of which were perfectly crisp and expertly seasoned. The atmosphere and service were classic Chops: attentive, polished, and top-tier. Proof that you can keep it light here and still have an incredible dining experience! read more

My wife and I have been Marietta residents for over 40 years and have dined at several fine dining establishments over the years. Blue Ridge Grill, Canoe, Ray's on the River to name a few. And we've even experienced dining on luxury cruise lines like Seabourn and Seven Seas. But I have to honestly say we have never experienced service like we did last night on our very first visit Chops. Starting with our very personable and knowledgeable sever, Chris, we felt like he could not do enough for us as he explained the speciality's on the menu and took our drink orders. Since we were hungry we immediately ordered the Dover Sole and Pepper Steak along with a Caesar and Blue Cheese wedge salad. It was not long before we noticed the service at Chops was different. It was done without being obvious as we conversed. Bread basket appeared without us noticing, sparkling water being refreshed, extra limes brought for the water, our empty plates just disappeared. The teamwork between the three people who attended to us was flawless. The Dover Sole was deboned table side which was a first for us. The portion was large, crisp on the outside tender on the inside with a very tasty lemon caper buttery sauce. My Pepper Steak was a nice sized filet, done to perfection and should be a definite choice for filet mignon lovers as the accompanying sauce added to the complexity of the dish. As we were finishing our meal my wife asked Chris if they had a "buttery" Chardonnay and he said "Yes", and then promptly brought her two glasses with a taste of two different Chardonnays to see which one she liked best. Now that has never happened to us before when ordering a glass of wine. I then told Chris I was celebrating my 79th birthday and was there any special dessert for the occasion. He said "There sure is" and then my wife chimed in and asked if it could be Creme Brûlée? He said "Of course". Shortly afterwards not only did the Creme Brûlée arrive, but it was also accompanied by one of the best bread puddings I have ever had. Needless to say, last night was the most excellent night of fine dining we have ever had. It was a magical experience with the rich, steakhouse ambience being off the charts. And the topping on the cake was getting to chat with the Manager, Fatima Nurm, to give her a "shout out" as to how much we enjoyed everything about this restaurant. We dined here for date night and easily made reservations through OpenTable. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. The restaurant had a nice ambiance, appeared clean, and initially seemed like it would be a great dining experience. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the atmosphere. Our server seemed to be in a rush, and we felt pressured to make our selections rather quickly. I ordered a 2.5lb lobster broiled & stuffed with the savory crab meat with fries and a Caesar salad. The lobster itself was good and I had no complaints, but I do wish I'd had more time to consider my sides because I didn't particularly enjoy either the fries or the salad. My significant other ordered the bone-in New York strip with lobster mac and cheese. The first steak came out a little too charred, leaving a noticeably burnt taste. To the restaurant's credit, they replaced it fairly quickly, and the second steak was much better and thoroughly enjoyed. One of the biggest issues was the temperature inside the restaurant--it was very hot throughout our meal. The valet service was also extremely slow. We were left standing outside in the heat for quite a while waiting for the car, which was not the best way to end the evening. Overall, the experience was underwhelming, especially considering the expectations and price point. Perhaps I would have a different experience ordering other dishes with a different server, but based on this visit, I wouldn't personally return. read more

I know that it has been over seven years since I've been to the lobster bar, 10 out of 10, some classics never changed. Austin and Justin were amazing. Let's talk about it. I arrived at the lobster bar at 625p for 630p reservation. I was able to valet immediately, which is a three dollar charge. I walked inside the restaurant and my friend was waiting at the bar for me. We were seated immediately tucked away in a corner in the back, just perfect. We were greeted by Justin, who was a waiter for the evening also accompanied by Austin who was helping him. Justin was so professional so knowledgeable so excited to be waiting on us for the evening. He answered every question that we had and left no wheels unturned. We were greeted with a warm bread dish. Tasty w/ the butter. I started with a Cabernet Sauvignon red wine-Swift Abstract for me and my friend continue to sip on their cocktail-Ketel One and lime from the bar wait and of course water. We ordered two appetizers to start with the calamari and a special beet salad. That salad was amazing. For my entree, I went with the Maryland style lump crabcakes OMG and my friend had the Crusted blackened grouper, which was great as well. I can truly say we had an amazing experience and it's just like I remember years ago of course the restaurant is very loud but as long as you can enjoy the company you are with, it's always a good time. This was some of the best service I've received in a very long time! I know this is an upper end restaurant but these days, most places still don't live rise up to the standard, let alone exceed them. The waiters never allowed our drinks to get below half full, checked in on us constantly, was pleasant, personable and consistently ensured the table had all needs met. I'd return just based off of the service alone. The food was also decent. We got the lambchops and the salmon. The food was 4/5, nothing bad but nothing necessarily stood out about it. I will say some of the small additions to the dishes are what elevated them. The curry sauce with the salmon snd the jelly with the lambchops made these dishes a little more special. The place is very busy and the squeeze a lot of tables into a small space so be aware of possibly being very close to your neighbor. I stopped by for lunch and ordered the Steak and Wedge, but swapped the wedge for a side of creamed spinach. I also added a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The food came out quickly, which was great. I was surprised by the portion size of the mashed potatoes--it was pretty small, just a couple of bites for my boyfriend and me to share. That said, everything tasted good. However, I'll probably skip the creamed spinach next time. It was fine, but nothing particularly memorable, and I found myself getting tired of it about halfway through. As for service, we had Anthony. This was our second time getting him and he's been a pleasure both times. Great service and very attentive. The ambiance was relaxed. Came here, partially on recommendation from locals having such rave reviews about it as well as doing some research online. So apparently this place is an institution and everybody loves coming here and it is always fully booked. In order to get here you can do the valet at the Saint Regis because they are all connected. To my surprise valet is only three dollars which is absolutely incredible. The decor here is definitely classic and old-school. I love the dark wood. The menu is very traditional and classic with a lot of expected staples. We came on a Friday and unfortunately could not eat meat so we did have quite a bit of selection for seafood, which is great. You can tell from the photos that we ordered quite a bit of items. Unfortunately, I have to say that the food was OK but not necessarily impressive nor does it stand out. For example, the crabcake entrée was ordered and while it is great that the crabcakes had no filler there was nothing special about it not only in taste, but also presentation. They're famous fried rolls Royce lobster appetizer which we got and ordered more of in order to serve. Three people was great, however again nothing about it that seemed unique. Probably the most disappointing part was that we ordered asparagus as a side and frankly when it came to the table, it just looked wilted and pathetic for lack of a better word while the waiters were very attentive about it, and apparently a manager came over as well, there was really no resolution to it. The asparagus barely had any salt or flavor on it and was just so whittle down and looked like it was dying on the plate. I really expected some serious bright green stocks that were crisp and snapped. These were soggy. I'm still giving it three stars because they do have some strengths about this place such as location reputation menu choices and ambiance. the service in general really is hospitable although not necessarily accommodating. Considering all the competition of steakhouses and steak and seafood places all within stone store of this location, I would definitely try another place next time read more

Came to Chops & Lobster Bar for a birthday party with about 20 people. Seating with reservations was seamless. There were a few parking spaces on the street and no parking fee on Sunday!! The drinks were good & strong. Ordered an Old Fashioned and I only needed one. We started with the calamari. Soooooo good! Nice Asian glaze with good cuts of calamari. Quite different, but still really good from standard calamari. We ordered the Tomahawk steak for 2 (cooked medium), Brussel sprouts, broccolini, and truffle fries. The steak was perfectly cooked! Just enough pink and not too much red. It was seasoned very well. No steak sauce needed. And it was just enough for 2 people, including my very hungry husband. My favorite sides were the Brussel sprouts & broccolini. Forgot to take pictures but they were yummy. Ordered the truffle fries for my toddler. She was unfortunately not a fan. Went tonight for my 50th birthday with my bestie. First, we were greeted pleasantly and seated rather quickly, although we didn't have a reservation. Chops is an old school steakhouse under the Buckhead Life Group umbrella. Stellar service across the board, and the bread place isn't bad as well. It's also situated in a unique area with the modern greenery that borders Rosetta, Umi, and the St Regis nearby. They are pretty accommodating and knowledgeable about the menu. Chops is a classic steakhouse. The restaurant is split into two stories. The first floor is the main dining and lobster bar where patrons can sit at a counter. Upstairs has the large bar, bit more festive and more dining. Reservations are a must! We enjoyed the sea bass, filet, lobster mac, lobster mash potatoes, greens, shrimp, and more. Service was perfect. Food was delicious. Expect to pay $100-200 pp depending on drinks and cuts chosen. There is valet parking, street parking, and a few lots around. Uber is best here. read more

There are other fine dining restaurants in ATL and then there is Chops & Lobster Bar. The place looks like it commands order but I wasn't here to play by the rules. I turned this fine steakhouse into my own personal tapas restaurant because I like to try it all. We started with a Greek salad, then came the octopus, then the fried lobster. Last night we got the chance to visit Chops Lobster Bar. We were so excited and had high hopes for this place as all of the reviews are beyond amazing. Unfortunately it disappointed. I don't know if it's because they are mostly celebrated for their steak and we didn't get that or maybe it was just an off day overall. Whatever the reason, I was certainly let down. Anyway- let's get into this food! Appetizers: Mixed Green Salad Thai Chili Rhode Island Calamari Chile Glazed Tiger Shrimp Entrees: Hong Kong Combo- Chilean Sea Bass & Faroe Islands Salmon Triple Cut Colorado Porterhouse Lamb Chops Sides: Lightly Creamed Baby Spinach Creamy Curly Mac & Smoked Gouda Cheese Dessert: Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding Drinks: Strawberry Infused Margarita The Piedmont Peach The mixed green salad I will say was really good. It had apples, pecans, cranberries and blue cheese crumbles. Very flavorful and one of the better items of the night. The calamari was seasoned well and it included juicy pieces of bell peppers which was a different- yet pleasant experience. The tiger shrimp I was okay as well. Not too spicy, not too much sauce. However, not too much bang for the buck either. Jordan enjoyed his Hong Kong Combo but he compared it to Atlanta Fish Market, which is also in the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, and he said theirs was much better. I enjoyed my lamb chops for the most part. LARGE and juicy without a doubt but a little too charred on the outside and not very easy to cut as it usually expected. I felt as if I was fighting with the meat to try to get the knife through it and because my preparation was medium, I was expecting a much easier experience. Overall, I would say we probably gave the entrees 6.5/10. The mac and cheese was TERRIBLE. It tasted like noodle. Have you ever had a noodle straight out of the pot? That's how this tasted but worse. No flavor, no cheese, nothing. Would not recommend AT ALL. The creamed spinach however was very good, probably one of the best items of the night in my opinion. Light and smooth, great taste. Overall, appetizers, 3/10. While the spinach was good, the mac & cheese brought the score down that much. We had the chocolate chip bread pudding for dessert and we were pleasantly surprised by this. Super smooth and light, the spoon slid right through. I am not the biggest fan of bread pudding but I enjoyed this. 7.5/10 These strawberry infused margarita was DELICIOUS. Strong and a drink that actually tasted like the fruit that was supposed to be in it. This was one of their specials so it may not always be available. Jordan wasn't the biggest fan, one of those drinks that did not taste like the fruit that was supposed to be in it. Very light, not very strong. Overall, we personally likely won't be returning to Chops Lobster Bar but it does get a lot of good reviews and if you were to try I would probably say go with the steak as that is what many of the reviews rave about! read more

Did y'all know Chops and Chops Lobster Bar are technically two different restaurants in the same building--with the exact same menu? The only real difference is the vibe. I've always liked Buckhead Life restaurants, but I'd never eaten here because... well, I ain't really about that Buckhead life. If you know, you know. We had reservations at Chops Lobster Bar, but even 15 minutes after our time, our table still wasn't ready. The host suggested we check upstairs at Chops, and I'm so glad we did. They seated us right away, and the experience was much more our speed. Chops Lobster Bar is a whole scene--beautiful space with a wavy tiled ceiling, but super loud and a tiny waiting area. Upstairs at Chops, the crowd was older, more chill, and the volume level dropped from a 9 to a 5. We even got a window seat overlooking a nice little (artificial) green space. Also, big difference in the staff energy--downstairs was chaotic, upstairs felt calm and professional. Style-wise, Chops is classic steakhouse: red leather, dark wood, relaxed. And the food? Outstanding. We don't eat red meat, but the fish and lobster were spot on. Same food, totally different vibes. If you're trying to decide between the two, hopefully this helps. read more

My only criticism would be for the "Michelin Award" winning banana cream pie. I'm not a chef but I do know flavors, and the pie was lacking. This was a great dining experience. Valet was on it so parking is easy and fast. There was barely any wait at all. I came with the party of six for a birthday and the service was awesome. We came on a weekend, so there was quite a crowd, however, since we have reservations, once all our party members arrived, we were seated quickly. The food was everything! We got seated in a very comfortable booth and I got to watch the kitchen (which I love). We ordered the Lobster Bisque with add ed lobster meat and a Cheeseburger and fries. The bisque was my pick. It was great and the added lobster only enhanced it. My spouse ordered the cheeseburger and it was definitely the hit of the meal. It was huge, perfectly cooked and beautiful. We did kind of finish the bisque (ate all of the lobster chunks out of it). And then there was the burger. We both kept cutting off a small sections until it was totally gone. The burger was cooked just as ordered - well but not dry. The flavor of that huge burger patty could not have been better. The fries were great. They arrived piping hot. Our server was awesome. He arrived with Birthday dessert for all of us. Two orders of fantastic Bread Pudding and yes, it was my birthday and I picked Chops...lucky us. For an upscale restaurant like Chops Lobster Bar, today's customer service was absolutely horrifying. Our waiter, Allen, seemed far more concerned with every other table than his own. We constantly waited for simple requests while watching others receive much better attention and service. The food itself was decent, but with prices at this level, the service should match the experience people are paying for. Unfortunately, it did not. Mother's Day is supposed to be special, and instead it turned into a frustrating and disappointing experience. My husband, son, and I came to celebrate my birthday on an early Tuesday evening. Our waiter, Chad, took amazing care of us. We enjoyed the calamari appetizer, and I filled up on the raisin nut bread which Chad brought me a second serving since the bread is so good! I highly recommend the Hong Kong sea bass which I almost always get, as it is the best! My husband tried the lamb chips which he enjoyed, and my son had a wedge salad, broccolini , and mac and cheese. Everything was tasty and celebration worthy. For a finally, Chad brought us not one, but TWO desserts in honor of my birthday-bread pudding with ice cream and chocolate toffee cake. I felt so delighted, such an amazing conclusion to such a wonderful meal! I wish every day could be this perfect! read more
