What a lovely experience. My husband read an article on the best steak house across the United States. This summer we are traveling locally so he gave me a sticky notes and ask where is this restaurant located to where we going to be in Georgia. It just so happens to be 20 minutes away from our event. I made the reservation through open table. Our server Mark was friendly and observant. I had asked for a ginger ale and he made sure my ginger ale was refilled without me asking. He also made sure the table was always clean. Which we haven't had that kind of services since Shula steak house and Capital Grill. The steak my husband had was excellent. The side are serve family style so we shared a garlic mash potatoes. I didn't finish my meal as I wasn't feeling too well but after our event I tore up my little filet. It was delicious. Visited for date night when visiting Atlanta and it was a quiet and intimate atmosphere, well no one was really in there maybe because it was a rainy night. The outside of the restaurant appeared modern, and the inside was you classic steak restaurant ambiance. We sat at one of the high u-shaped booths and enjoyed a wedge salad, filet mignon, bone-in ribeye, loaded garlic mashed potatoes that were some of the best I ever had, and creamed spinach that really wasn't what I was expecting. Oh, I almost forgot about the bread, so good with that butter! Our waiter Jeff was welcoming and attentive providing great service that evening. Would visit again if I am in the area. The GPS didn't take us to the restaurant. We had to call to figure out how to find them because they are in a little through way, so if you get lost, call and they we tell you how to find them, Brittany was so sweet when I called because apparently it happens often. read more

McKendrick's is a solid, classic steakhouse with a traditional fine dining atmosphere. The service was amazing and our server made great suggestions. We started off with the tempura lobster. It was fried perfectly. We ordered the salmon and the sea bass, both served with sauces on the side. The fish was flavorful enough on its own though. The sides were also tasty, with the creamed spinach being my favorite. The mac and cheese had a few red pepper flakes that added a nice touch. This is my favorite steakhouse in Atlanta. It's old school and clubby in it's decor and service. My go to order is either the Escargot (good garlic and fresh and plump) or onion soup for starters, I love their NY bone in strip done mildly pittsburgh , onion rings and creamed spinach. My parents split the side baked potato, fully loaded, however it came out like warm, if that. I ordered the side brussel sprouts and they were fair. They had parmesan and bacon on them, so they had great flavor, however, they were not fully cooked and definitely nowhere near crispy, as advertised. All three of our steaks were under cooked and had to be sent back. They also discharged the amount of the full bottle of wine from the menu advertised price. I've been here a few times for an impromptu drink and snack at the bar. The bartenders are always nice and provide well made drinks. Since I always sit at the bar, I've only been in casual clothes and no one says anything. However, I have seen other in the dining room far more dressed up. I've only tried seafood appetizers here. The seafood tower allows you to sample a few different items. So far the best thing I've eaten here has been the BBQ Shrimp. The sauce on the shrimp is really smoky and tasty. Everything else that I've tasted has been ok but not very memorable. I would recommend coming here for drinks. The place is a little hidden, it's on the side, almost back ,of a strip mall we did two different gps and only found it by being persistent. Parking is self parking, lots of space available. Don't be put off by the menu only having a few steaks listed, the waiter has an equally long list of specials, which was so long we had to ask him to repeat his list. We started off with a seafood tower, was nice but pricy for what you got on the tower, for example we each got 1 chilled shrimp, 1 oysters and 1/2 a lobster tail. For my entree I had prime rib, was very good and large enough so I could not finish, my wife had a filet stuffed with fried shrimp, both item not on the printed menu. We also had the mushroom risotto, very good, and the Brussels sprouts not as good. Here is a tip, ask for a booth instead of a table, they look a lot more comfortable and roomy. read more

It was my first time dining at McKendrick's and certainly won't be my last. My sisters and I decided to go on a fancy night out and had dinner here. Reservations are highly recommended but there were some empty tables left when we arrived. I'm not sure if that's because we beat the dinner rush. We did have a reservation but we were running late 15 mins late so we called the restaurant to notify them, and they said no problem. We were seated in a booth and our server that night was Antonio. He was very prompt and kind. One thing to note about this restaurant is their exceptional service. Our water glasses were refilled all the time and we didn't have to ask for anything from our service more that once. We were hungry and ordered all our meals at the same time. They of course provided a bread service, which I didn't really care much for. For appetizers, we all shared the fried calamari, which was mediocre. The breading was nice and flavorful but the squid itself was a little too chewy for my liking. We all shared the 24 oz porterhouse (well done) with a Caesar salad, grilled assorted vegetables, mushroom risotto and garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was a good sized to share between 3 people as it was prepared well done. It was cooked to perfection with a nice crust. If the cut of meat is good, you don't need more than just salt and pepper, which I think is all they used. Out of all the accompaniments we ordered, the Caesar salad and mashed potatoes were my favorite. Caeasar salad had a few anchovies in it, which you don't really see elsewhere. The mashed potatoes was so creamy topped with a delicious garlic confit. The mushroom risotto had tons of mushrooms in it, but thought it lacked a bit of salt. Maybe we should have mixed it together so the cheese on top would make the rest of it saltier. The veggies were also decent but a bit oily and I wish was a bit more charred. We did not have room for dessert since we ate tons of food, but I would definitely go back to this place for a nice dinner out. read more

I tried to go to fogos for my birthday and after being severely disappointed, Brian got us in very fast and even pulled out the booth for me to sit and when I say the service was SUPERB..everybody in that building was amazing. It was quiet and the ambiance was everything . Our server Mark was on point and we really got service from what seemed like the whole staff. They were so amazing and attentive. We were served iced water as soon as we sat down. I have absolutely no complaints at all. My partner ordered the Scottish salmon, and I had the oak grilled shrimp and we had a share of 2 sides of creamy spinach and garlic mashed potatoes. My partner said that was the best salmon he has ever had, and the shrimp were a very nice size, well seasoned and it came with 6, you could really taste the oak. The garlic butter was something we've never experienced and It was truly amazing. Our server Mark brought out a birthday dessert with a lit candle and took pictures for us without us even asking, and once it was time to leave Brian offered to walk me to my car with an umbrella due to it raining. Truth be told I was having a pretty rough birthday but mckendricks changed my entire mood. They treated us like royalty and I've never experienced service that amazing. Since then, I have never disapointed - steaks being a bit on pricey side, the value for money is definitely there. It has all the usual facets of a high-end steak house: dim lighting, dark wood, cozy booths, wait staff in uniforms, etc. Service was attentive an prompt, as you'd expect here. We never felt rushed or ignored. The wine list is extensive. The steaks were cooked well and were high quality. The salads, bread, and desert were all quite good too. Impeccable service! Our reservation was for 7:15. We were running a little late but there were no issues on a Friday night. I was surprised. Limited cocktail menu. You need to know what you want and maybe they will be able to make it for you. The majority on the menu are whiskey-based. I guess whiskey goes with steak? IDK. Appetizers: daughter had the crab cake. She loved it. I had the French onion soup. So good!!!!!! Before we could delve into the appetizers our main course was there. She ordered the filet medium rare and I ordered the 24oz Chef's cut bone-in ribeye. The char gives it a nice flavor and it was cooked perfectly. Her filet looked delicious. The sides were garlic mash and spinach. They are shareable. I didn't try the spinach because I'm over 18 and I don't have to be forced to eat them anymore. The garlic mash was very good. I was surprised because some places say garlic but you don't taste it but this time it was abundant!!! We couldn't finish our food so there was no room for dessert at all. My only issue is the flimsy take-out boxes. I know they are probably good for the environment but uggghh. I could not believe how busy it was on a Tuesday at 6:00, but that just shows how it is a popular steakhouse in Atlanta and has been for years. We got to dine in one of their comfy wrap around booths. Our server was attentive and great at sharing the menu with us since it was our first time dining here. He started us with complimentary bread service and some delicious full bodied Cabernet wine. For my entree, I got the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. So tender and juicy. Their sides are served family style and we got the lobster Mac n cheese and the Brussels sprouts. The lobster Mac n cheese is worth every penny. It is cheesy seafood goodness! The Brussels were good, just not the best ones I've ever had, so I would recommend choosing a different vegetable option. For my birthday, the server surprised me with a yummy chocolate cake. My friend planned a steak dinner here for his birthday, but I may have been even more excited than he was. I've seen McKendrick's so many times in passing to Eclipse di Luna or Alon's Bakery or Cafe Intermezzo. The parking lot was packed but I skipped valet and found the last spot next to Alon's. The steakhouse interior is a classic traditional dim steakhouse lighting and decor. We were seated once a majority of our party arrived. When at a steakhouse, obviously you order a steak. And it was a long day so I decided to order a glass of wine, too, to go with my ribeye. I was lazy so decided not to get the bone-in ribeye. We also got the thick sliced bacon and the calamari as our appetizers, which were both excellent. It set the tone for the rest of the meal. We ordered some a la carte sides to share family style - garlic mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, mushroom risotto and broccoli. The fact that mushroom risotto comes as a side here is just amazing. I liked all of the sides - the risotto was al dente, and I would have preferred it a little softer, but that's a personal preference, maybe? My steak was quite undercooked. I like a perfectly medium rare steak and I don't mind a little blood, but the center of my steak was cold. I thought it was just me, but as I looked around the table, everyone at the table had ordered medium rare ribeyes and everyone's steaks were undercooked. I ended up eating as much as I could and taking the rest to go. I was too hungry to send it back and wait for them to hear it up bit in the oven for a little longer. I just wish they had rested the steaks before sending them to us undercooked. At home, I heated it up in the oven and it was perfect. Overall, I was very impressed with the service and the food quality, but disappointed with the poor attention to detail when it came to cooking our steaks. The fact that all 5 ribeyes were undercooked versus just one steak is more than just a small one time error. This place was awesome! My boss took us here for our holiday dinner that we do yearly! I was super excited she chose this restaurant. (She never really disappoints anyways). We were seated at a nice table in the back and the service promptly started. We got Martinis and beer and lemon drops. My lemon drop was perfection in a glass! I had two. Hehe. The waiter accommodated us and added shrimp to the shrimp cocktail so we could each have one. The shrimp were huge by the way! We also got the calamari for am appetizer and this was honestly the best calamari I've ever had. It seriously tasted amazing and the sauce it came with was a nice compliment, even though, it didn't really need any sauce. The ribeye I ordered was cooked just like I wanted. It was char on the outside but perfect medium meat on the inside. We all picked the ala carte sides and shared them and I must day that the lobster mac and cheese was the best one. Went to dinner for the first time at McKendrick's. This is definitely an upscale steakhouse with a dimly lit and intimate vibe in the main dining room. Food/drink: As is typical with this kind of steakhouse, everything is à la carte. We ordered a Caesar salad, 8 oz. Filet stuffed with grilled shrimp, 16 oz. Ribeye, Lobster Mac and Cheese, and Brussel Sprouts to eat; and a bottle of Belle Glos Pinot Noir to drink. The steak entrées were both delicious and perfectly cooked. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was on point with large pieces of lobster meat within. The Brussel Sprouts were soggy as if they were steamed and not roasted to the crispy level I enjoy so, I would not recommend these as a side. The bottle of Pinot Noir was absolutely amazing and paired wonderfully with the meal. For dessert we had the White Chocolate and Grand Marnier Brulee and the NY Cheesecake. These were both nice sweet treats as well. Service: Our servers were friendly, attentive, and answered any questions I had. Disappointed in the vegan options at this place, and the rest of my group (non vegans) didn't love their dishes either. I'm fully aware this is a steakhouse, so I don't expect any interesting or complete vegan meals on the menu. With that being said, I've been to several higher end steakhouses (in the same price range as mckendricks), and the chefs have gladly created a meal for me and seem to be more well versed in cooking everything (not just meat). I was stuck eating the sides that just so happen to not be vegan (the ones that are not vegan could not be prepared differently). On my plate was mountains of sautéed spinach, asparagus, and brussels sprouts. That's it. That's all I could eat for a main course. All tasted okay. I was also brought the house salad with a side of vinaigrette dressing (this is not their norm -- they brought it to me as an alternative dressing option). Again, the salad was just fine -- nothing special -- and the vinaigrette was on the tart side of the spectrum (which I love, but was a bit much even for me). The rest of my party (a large work group) said their cuts of steak and the seafood towers were cooked well, but lacking flavor. The service was really great! They are definitely on top of things, friendly, and accommodating. My overall impression is that the restaurant is putting on the front that they're an upscale dining establishment (based on their prices, service, and ambiance), but the food quality and flavor does not live up the expectation. read more

The only complaint I had about the entire experience at McKendrick's is that the waiter seemed to disappear for long periods of time. We had a small business meeting and they where not busy tonight. We ordered appetizers, salads, steaks and desserts. I had the ribeye and it was great. Perfectly cooked with just the right amount of char. The cocktails where strong and great drinks. We got the crème brûlée paired with a bourbon which was amazing. We will be back and hope that the service will be a little more attentive and around instead of having to wait 20 mins to order drinks and then another 20 mins to order food. PS. The sides are great.
