I've been coming to this Ray's since I was 6 and am now 33. The pizza is good which is why I keep coming back but the owner is completely unhinged. I was trying to place an order on doordash but on the app it stated that it was closed. I called the restaurant and spoke to good ol Bob who was just as rude as he always is. I asked if he could check the app to see if it was toggled to closed. He just kept repeating, "No we're open." Like yeah Bob, I know that. I was just trying to place an order through doordash man. I personally think it had too much cheese for my taste. I've experienced that before from a different pie house. Sauce was not too sweet or herby. I feel I have had better pepperoni slices. I am a fan of Neapolitan style New York pizza. Long hot chewy folding slices with the right amount of char. This place did have that and was very satisfied. The service at the counter isn't bad at all, whenever I call in my order, it takes less than 30 seconds to place. Short and to the point. This place offers delivery services and when shit goes wrong such as your uber driver running off with your food they have no way to remedy the situation! I'd say the pizza and the service are "NY style" so don't bitch about the family not being perky hospitality school graduates and enjoy the food. You have to know they care about serving you great food. I pass at least 3 or 4 pretty good pizza places to come here almost every Friday. And I can only RAVE about the Pizza at this Ray's. The pizza- both Neapolitan and Sicilian - is consistent and perfect! The fold, the crunch, high-quality cheese and plentiful toppings on the NY style are the best. The Sicilian crust is flavorful, airy and crisp on the bottom- yum! Crust is unreal, I asked for it extra crispy and it was cooked to order.. crispy outside , slightly dense chewy inside. The cheese and sauce ratio and flavor were both perfect. This is straight up NY pizza... The only thing i had a small issue with is they should allow comments on the postmates app.. for example no place to ask for extra sauce, extra crispy, etc.. Also, extra cheese is not an option on the app... no big deal. It's easy at restaurant but i happened to notice those things because I was doing delivery. can't wait to come back and order again. Ray's Pizza is a family favorite and has been for years... The four stars is for the truly authentic New York style pizza and the warm yet casual atmosphere. The $4.50+ price for a pepperoni slice is a bit high, but it includes the sometimes non-friendly New York style attitude. (That's coming from a nice Midwestern girl married to an East Coast boy with that same attitude on occasion.) Go for a slice or several pies... you can't go wrong. We recently purchased several pies and brought them to share post-soccer practice with my son's team as part of a casual covid-friendly birthday dinner, and everything got demolished! Today was my first and last visit to Ray's. The food handling practices here are concerning to say the least. The girl working the register didn't have her long hair pulled back, and she wasn't wearing gloves when handling food. She touched multiple surfaces and then the pizza bare-handed. Then, another older employee came out without gloves and touched the pizzas, as well. And then they both went on touching other things throughout the restaurant. We also noticed the restaurant was dirty...The floors were dirty, the booth cushions were all covered in grease stains, and some were held together with duct tape. After all of that I still decided to risk food-borne illness for mediocre pizza. Don't go here if you care about not getting Covid or people refusing to wear a mask... 3 of the staff doesn't wear a mask, 2 of them barely over their mouth. The person taking your order and the person preparing your food isn't wearing a mask. Over half the customers don't wear a mask. Yes, I realize it's Christmas and the place was open and that sucks. But don't take that out on the customers -- maybe have a talk with management -- especially as you have no idea what the customers themselves might be going through in their lives. I can't believe I haven't already left a review for this place! But Ray's Pizza, specifically this location, is THE best pizza in the entire state of Arizona. I've been coming here since I was a kid. And although I've never lived near a Rays, I will always go out of my way to come here if I'm even slightly in the vicinity! The owners are some of the sweetest people I've ever met, and they greet me with a smile every time I come in. I've been bringing as many of my friends and roommates as I can lately, and they always treat them with the same amount of love that they treat me, which is incredibly valuable to me. The actual vibe of the place is fantastic as well. Very calm, soothing lighting with a very classically decorated space. And my favorite booth is almost always open.
