The views at Ray's waterfront are incredible. That being said, without reservations on a weekday night, expect to wait about an hour to be seated (you can walk around and explore other shops though so that's fine)! The staff are all really kind however the food isn't the best we had in anchorage. The salmon we got was a little on the dry side and the drinks were more syrup tasting than anything else. Fantastic seafood restaurant in Seward. The town of Seward has a heart beat for the summer, this restaurant and many other are only open in summer. The restaurant is absolutely packed because of the arguably the best place for seafood. It opens at 5, our group waiting in line for a half and hour at the door in order to try to get a window seat which is of course now guaranteed. We have reservations for 7 and when we arrived the restaurant said that the dinner party was done with their food but they are still sitting at the table. We waited for anyway from 30-45 minutes for the table to leave. General note for everyone, don't be rude to others, if you are done with your meal take your conversation elsewhere so others can have a chance to enjoy the dinner experience as well. As far as the food and the service, everything was fantastic! It doesn't get any better than eating seafood in a window seat, staring at Mount Alice! I highly recommend this restaurant! read more

Rays had great service and pretty solid food for a hefty price. The place did have a nice location, right on the water. I had one of their halibut dishes with a curry sauce and the seafood chowder. When nothing else was open on a Tuesday, we came here. Please don't. You'll spend way more than you need and leave horribly underwhelmed. You'll notice a general theme - everything was way overcooked. If you absolutely need to come here, maybe get a salad or the chicken? We should have known it was going downhill when our ahi tuna appetizer was over-cooked and sliced the wrong way (you shouldn't see the fatty grains when you eat ahi). It was super chewy. My friend ordered the ribs special - super fatty and overcooked as well. The veggies were unseasoned and under done. The mashed potatoes weren't great. And the biggest let down - I wanted to treat myself to an Alaska king crab dinner. The second the dish was served, I knew they were horribly over cooked. I paid $85 for rubbery king crab. After reading the reviews, I knew this would be kind of a gamble but as food options are limited in Seward and I just got off a 7h boat trip in the cold, this place was conveniently located. What can I say but that it is massively overpriced for what you get? The steamed clams appetizer was $19 but at least it felt like a decent amount of food. The seafood linguine for $35 on the other hand with only two shrimp, three scallops and random tiny bits of fish scattered across, was the biggest disappointment. It drowned in mushrooms and grated cheese (which both should never ever ever be in a seafood pasta) to make up for the lack of seafood I guess.. To top it off, the scallops tasted overcooked and chewy. If you're asking such exorbitant prices, you better make sure the quality of the dish at least lives up to that expectation. We (party of two) called at 6pm, about 30 minutes before we got there to put our names down, and we waited for another 15 minutes or so once we got there. Anyone arrived after us had at least a one hour wait. Salmon entree 4/5: salmon, mashed potatoes, and grilled peppers. Flavor is good but salmon is a bit dry. Glad we got first in line because we went during dinner time which they opened at 1600. Line was already piling up at 1530. Our table was amazing as it was next to the window with the GREATEST VIEW EVER. The mountains with glaciers, the port and seeing people coming off the boat from fishing and from site seeing. Seals were popping their heads and people passing by going fishing and coming back from fishing. The food overall was great. Im vegetarian, the staff was flexible to accommodate my dietary restrictions and get me veggies and rice with curry sauce (the original dish is halibut andaman). Absolutely mind blowing. If you're planning a trip to Seward--skip this one and try the other restaurants. The food is good, but the waitstaff are very rude. We are visiting Seward this spring and we were recommended this restaurant by our hotel. We came in, a table for 2, in the evening for dinner. Our server was polite, if a bit short, and the food was good (chicken and halibut). We were a bit quite and sluggish from the jet lag still, but not bothering anyone and being rather friendly I think. If this were my only experience I'd rate higher. However, we came back for dinner the next day with my sister and parents who were joining us for a few days on the trip, and it was awful from the get go. When we entered the restaurant, as the hostess began show us to our table, a group of servers by the bar saw my partner and I and stated, "here they come" in a extremely rude tone to the rest of the group, who turned to us. No idea what we did to deserve that. Very hurtful, reminds me of middle-school to be honest. When we got our table we ordered some drinks and apps and chat. When we order entrees 2 of our party got a burger (from the lunch menu by request), and they were very clear that they wanted a plain, well done burger. The exact words were, "plain well done burger, just meat and bun"--it came with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onions. One in our party had to request a new fork, as it had fallen--that never came. I know from the night before our entrees came with bread--no bread until requested and no oil. One person in our party ordered a soda--never came, so she asked our server for the soda, and the server was very sassy about it (customer service sassy, i.e., nice words rude tone). She was just very unhappy to be there. Not sure what her problem was but all the staff was like that, rude in the quiet way--odd looks, hushed tones, and what have you. We wanted to get dessert but wanted to get out of that place so we didnI've been a server so I don't fault this for rude customers, but we were very polite both the night before and at dinner. I'm curious what it was about us that warranted the rude welcome and treatment, I don't think theres anything that does. I will not be returning nor recommending them to anyone. read more

I got the halibut piccata and I think that was a poor choice because it's grilled and it came out a little dry and there wasn't quite enough picada sauce and it wasn't on top of it. Salads with fish were okay but the chicken showed up after my dad and I were done eating. We had been hiking before dinner, and it was a beautiful day (sunny and mid-60's) and yet there was this dreadfully cold breeze more often than not. We asked to be moved, and eventually we were given a window seat. It was a little warmer. We ordered the bread with dipping oil. It was the best part of the meal. Very yummy. We split a salad which was large enough for two people. And I was looking for a piece of broiled fish but most fish were fried or sauced, so I went with the fish and chips. I substituted the chips with broccolini and cilantro rice. The waitress brought out the large salads and the fish entree all at the same time which was a total disappointment. And she forgot the extra salad plate so we ate off the serving plate. For $125 it seems like the waitress would have told the kitchen manager, that timing was unacceptable. So now I have one large salad plate, one large fish plate, one medium plate of cold broccolini, one medium plate of rice in front of me as well as a glass of water! What a mess! Totally unenjoyable. Why they didn't plate my order on one plate, I don't know. But I do know why she brought the salads out with the entree when I politely asked. She said the kitchen staff gets off at 4pm and they were anxious to leave!! So here is my thought. If the staff is that anxious to leave perhaps Ray's should close between 3 and 5? read more

Nice location right in the Seward harbor. The food was nice. I had the Cioppino, while my wife had the Halibut piccata. The Ciopinno was nice and had a good amount of seafood in it. The Halibit on the other hand was bland per my wife. Our kids enjoyed a Salad with grilled chicken and grilled chicken kids meal. Both were great portions.
