First of all, the food is DELICIOUS & the service top notch! Moving from Texas we have been looking for a "Tex Mex" restaurant & this one doesn't disappoint! We've eaten in & order to go...regardless, the food is excellent. The interior is warm & comfortable (not fancy) and the faces are friendly. There is a small outdoor patio that is nice. This time we ate inside...and cleaned our plates. I bypassed the margarita today, but have had them in the past & highly recommend. We did order some guacamole & it was so fresh tasting. The food is pretty good. I wouldn't get the caldo de pescado again, which was mostly liquid and not much of the stuff inside. Steak a la raza is always good and a go-to. Quesadilla is a favorite as well. Service - food came out quickly. Ambiance - laidback, often very busy, which is great for them. read more

Delightful! We sat on the patio of Raza yesterday for a delicious lunch. Our server, Rosalio was amazing, helping us choose and making sure we had everything we needed. It was a beautiful day and our dog was welcomed along with us on the patio. The chips were crisp, the salsa mild and delicious and the enchiladas (cheese and beef) were moist, tasty and amazing. I love Raza Fresa. We've been going there for at least 10 years. The staff is welcoming and efficient. The food is excellent. I love everything. I decided to give Mexican a chance...a CHANCE. I've been burned so many times before, but I thought maybe one more time. They dropped the ball. I got a super chimi with steak, which is already an annoying name since it took me forever to find when I was looking for chimchanga. However this was worse than the frozen chimchangas I got from Costco that only need 2 minutes in the microwave. My super chimi was very large, but turned out to be quantity over quality to the extreme. It was the hottest dish I've ever had, burning my mouth with no warning. This wouldn't be much of an issue since good should be hot, but the steak was abhorrent. It was genuinely the toughest steak I've ever had, and looked and tasted like overcooked rat meat. Excellent dinner there on a Tuesday evening, about 8:30. Service was attentive and efficient and the chips and salsa delicious. I had the special, Barria Tacos and the flavor was superb. I could only eat one of the three but surely enjoyed the leftovers the next day--when I hadn't eaten so many chips and salsa. My Paloma cocktail was tasty, though they were out of mezcal. Location is so good and service is almost always attentive and friendly, plus the menu literally has over 100 selections... but unfortunately the food really does come across like cafeteria fare more than fine dining. Again, food is served hot (when it's supposed to be) but salsa is super ordinary, margaritas are watery and bland and it just falls short when there are other good Mexican options a short drive away in Boulder. Would give this 3.5 stars or maybe even 4 stars on a nice day, but menu is unfortunately more memorable than the food. read more

My favorite restaurant for the best Mexican food anywhere is Raza Fresa. I dare you to find a better authentic Chile Relleno. We love going there. At least 6 of us every time. If the staff brings chips and salsa to your table, be aware that will cost you $10, it's not complimentary and they won't ask. We ordered steak fajitas for two ($37.99) but the server brought us steak and chicken fajitas by mistake and then charged an extra $5. He wouldn't remove that charge or let us speak to the manager. Then we got charged $3.50 that was not specified (we had water only) and the waiter disappeared. Needless to say, will not be recommending or going back. read more

A little pricey but this place has turned it around since a few years ago. the food is REALLY GOOD every time. We have been here twice for lunch and once for a cocktail. I love the rice/bean/pico/shrimp bowl for lunch. It's super fresh, healthy and delicious. My mom loved the steak fajitas. The chips are very tasty and we liked the salsa. There's a small, nice patio on the side, and the bar area is attractive. I tried a spicy mezcal margarita and it's fantastic. The restaurant is under new management, and we found the service to be excellent. We live in Gunbarrel and would choose this place in Niwot over going into Boulder. Give this small restaurant a try. Won't be back anytime soon. They throw another (unexpected) surcharge of roughly 4% onto your bill if you pay with a credit card, their food isn't inexpensive to begin with! I didn't catch that the last time we went there or we wouldn't have come back. It's probably posted somewhere in the fine print. We were visiting Niwot as my grandparents and parents lived on 2nd street going way back. We chose this Mexican restaurant for lunch after looking at the menu. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was pleasant. They even turned down the music (a bit) in the side patio for us when we asked. I had the most amazing dinner here. The casuela with bites of tender chicken, steak, and mushrooms was just right spicy and the prickly pear Margarita was a perfect accompaniment. This has been one of our favorite Mexican food restaurants. Good food and excellent Margaritas. Thursday before last we went to take advantage of "Thirsty Thursdays" which they have had for years formally Ajua's. 1/2 price Margs. After we were delivered the check they said they didn't offer it anymore. No compensation or apology. It is still advertised on their webisite. They simply said no. I contacted them via their website and explained this to management and have not heard a word. We often meet friends there. It is sad to see such poor customer service and false advertising. The freshest Mexican food I ever had!!!!! Great staff, and love the new decor! I suggest the spinach rellenos, the cabo bowl or the carne asada salad.
