Nick was responsive and quick. He can in did his diagnosis and said he can fix it (compressor). Got the job done in about 2-3 hours (including diagnostic). However after the job my ice maker wasn't working anymore when I inquired about it, he said it was two separate job between the compressor and the ice maker. It was working prior to the compressor fix. Coincidence chain of bad luck on my part? Anyways he said he was busy and would get back to me but never heard back. Well, we had a refrigerator die and lost a lot of food. I called Niko, of Real Tech, on Tuesday evening. I called after reading some of the 200 plus 5 star reviews on yelp and he said he could be out on Wednesday morning between 10am and 12pm. His charge was $75 for the diagnosis, which would be applied to any repairs that we had him do. He asked me a series of questions so that he could prepare for the morning. I felt very comfortable using him based on the phone conversation. Very thorough, knowlegeble and very friendly. He said that he would notify me when he was on his way. He did. He called 45 minutes ahead that he was on the way and arrived a few minutes early. Niko did a very thorough diagnosis and narrowed the problem down to the compressor. I am a retired electrician and had tested to that conclusion. I had not told Niko that I was an electrician before that time. At each step of the way Niko patiently explained what he was going to and what things we could expect to see. As it turns out he had been an electrical engineer. That explained a lot. He is meticulous in his methods and documentation. He is very knowledgeable about electric appliances without being condescending. He goes out of his way to insure you that know what he is doing and why. Ours was indeed a bad compressor, one that LG has been sued about. Unfortunately the suit covered LG models only, not LG built models for Kenmore. Niko removed our old compressor and replaced it with an updated model, evacuated all of the old freon, purged the coils with hydrogen and, then evacuated the lines and installed the new freon. He then updated the control board program to deal with the characteristics of the new compressor. Niko was done in the hour and 45 minutes he promised. His work was meticulous and he cleaned up. His price was fair. He even went out of his way to trouble shoot and repair the freezer light that I had not been able to get to, at no cost. This was no simple task. He researched the problem and was able to find a broken wire in the upper door hinge wire assembly, which he reattached. That is truly going above and beyond. I am very appreciative. I will be using Real Tech and Niko again and am recommending him of my family and friends. read more

He ended up doing zero work for me because after I messaged him what was going on...he very honestly said that, although, he could make money from me, he recommend at the end of the day it is better for ME to just replace the unit.
