Drinks 4/5 Atmosphere 5/5 (for the most part, it can be tricky to find seating) Customer Service 3/5 I love my gente but not giving proletariat friendly vibes; definitely on the bougier end of things. Same in SF. Price 2/5 Shit is expensive. Although I'm happy my ducats are going to a melinated someone, I can't wait to have a black owned space that is also working class friendly:) in vibe and price. If you want to be intentional about what businesses you solicit, and can afford to do that (or want to treat yourself!!), check it out. read more

I started my date day here. I planned three spots . The first here . I had reviewed menu and planned to start with coffee and Johnny Cakes or Juanito Cakes but , no longer serving brunch but, cashier didn't know why. An absolutely gorgeous building. I knew form the first time I laid eyes on it that I would need to come on my next trip to California and I took the BART from Colma in Daly City all the way to Fruitvale to get it. When I got there and went inside the barista was super friendly and chill. I grabbed their Vietnamese Cold Brew and it was great. Wi-Fi was strong and plenty of plugs and seats. The vibe was professional and chill, everyone was doing their own thing. It almost felt like the before times before COVID which was a nice feeling. Really impressed with this business and highly recommend! read more

I was kind of disappointed with both drinks. The charcoal latte was too sweet for me and the Vietnamese cold brew didn't taste like the Vietnamese coffee flavor. I'm Vietnamese and hunt for the best Vietnamese coffee, but this drink taste kind of watered down and not strong as it should be. There was not enough seating inside. I had to wait for someone to leave before I sat down. There's an upstair but it's for employees only. I'm not sure if there was a parking lot but I used the parking meter in front of the cafe. Staff we're very friendly and helpful with recommendations. I like that they greeted me when I came in and when I left. read more

The drinks are ok. Got the Charcoal and Matcha latte both with expresso shots. Matcha was watery and bland. The charcoal Latte was too sweet even though I asked for less sweet and couldn't taste the expresso shot in any of the drinks. We ordered online since their pos was shutdown and waited 20mins and realized they never got our order.. so had to tell them and wait even longer /: staff is nice but don't think ill come back again because of the drinks. read more

The staff is 5/5 stars!! So friendly & kind. Maybe I came at a good time, around 1 pm parking wasn't bad. Alternative milks are really good from Califa. Tried the candied yam latte with almond milk $6.25. I thought the drink was 3/5 yummy but didn't really taste like yam. read more

I moved to Oakland just a few weeks ago, and with time to spare between my start of work, I have spent much of my time exploring the specialty coffee scene here. I've researched over 2 dozen, and tried a dozen coffee shops across the town. I can say with confidence that Red Bay by far has the best specialty coffee in Oakland. Fellow, the high-end coffee product brand, featured them on their "coffee for good" list. They consider themselves part of the "fourth wave coffee movement," pioneering a commitment to coffee that is sustainable, equitable, and inclusive. Who doesn't want to support a brand that both has the quality, wonderful taste, AND mission and ideals and action?! I've visited all their locations, except their location at The Hive, which seems to be closed each time I visit. Hours could be updated if it's permanently closed. Each location has its charm and are very different, look-wise. The Roastery is a fun, open space, but is loud (as expected) and much of the roasting process is out-of-sight, with COVID protocol taping off access to much of the viewing. (Which is expected, just noting!) All the at-home coffee equipment you could need is found here for purchase, though, which makes it fun to visit even if it's just to dream of my next equipment purchase or buy a new pack of filters. I've visited their mobile coffee shop at the Grand Lake Farmers Market on Saturdays. They are pretty busy because of the crowds, but efficient, fast, and friendly. Their location in the Ferry Building (in SF) is beautiful, spacious, and has an expansive array of goods for sale (like specialty and single origin drinking chocolate, snacks, coffee equipment, etc.). It was a very busy location in my experience, but the line is always worth the wait. I love the HQ because of the many seating areas, it's an easy commute from my house, has fresh pastries, and is typically not incredibly busy or crowded. What I love most about Red Bay is their consistency. I'm not sure I've been to any other coffee shops, specialty or not, that are this consistent across their multiple locations. It's incredible! Do yourself a favor and check out this place. I'm sure you're bound to become a regular! read more

Great coffee, nice place, but the incredibly slow service ruins it. If you have somewhere to be in the next hour or are trying to get a drink to-go, you better pray the people in line in front of you aren't ordering one of their fussy charcoal drinks. It was my first time getting coffee from Red Bay Coffee today. The price was reasonable, and the coffee/pastries were really good. The only reason I didn't give this place a 5 star is because of the demeanor and tone that the person working the cash register treated us with. He seemed snappy with his responses and acted like I should have known the answer to my own questions. It was the guy with dreads, he wore red Jordan 1's. I've worked in multiple coffee shops, and one thing I've learned is coffee shops should be a third home for customers, it is where one should feel welcomed when buying their coffee. It could be the possibility that he didn't want to be at work today, but that's not a customers fault. read more

Such a cute coffee shop on a busy corner of Fruitvale Ave and International! I came here with a co-worker during lunch around noon. There wasn't a very long line, ordering was quick, and we got our drinks shortly after. I ordered an Iced Honey Lavender Latte with oat milk. It was SO GOOD. I've had a lot of lavender type drinks in the past, and this is definitely in my top two favorites. It wasn't too sweet, and wasn't too lavender-y where it tasted like a candle or something. It was the perfect amount of everything! The interior of this coffee shop is also really unique. The building itself is old, but it's been nicely renovated inside. Tons of green plants, high ceilings, modern furniture, and pretty lighting. There were several lounge chairs for sitting, as well as tables. People were either working on their laptops or on coffee dates with friends. If you need a cute spot to study or work in, I would try this one! I will definitely be back here for another honey lavender latte. :) read more

Tried red bay for the first time today-way overdue! I got a bag of Ethiopian coffee, a latte with oak milk and a morning bun. Everything was delicious and service was lovely. The space is bright/airy and I like that they invested in being in East Oakland. Customers here were also friendly which isn't always the case at coffee shops-great community feel and family friendly. read more

Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small" They continue to do it right! Here , one is wow'd in a fun cool -in the moment kind of way. Everybody here is busy cleaning and staying busy shining as they do. The absolute brilliance of flavor didn't disappoint upon tasting a delicious Pour Over , which was served at a perfect taste-testing temp! Visited the fruitvale location a few weeks ago and had a terrific experience, the charcoal latte was great and I cant wait to go back. Before I left I asked for beans to use in my home espresso machine and was recommended slow burn and Coltrane, both were excellent. I love Red Bay coffee but today the experience with customer service wasn't it. I order a Large Vietnamese cold brew the barista Jasey was rude. Left my partner and I at the register for quiet some time with out greeting us as we walk in. He got our order incorrect. So while we did correct him on the size of the beverage he remade the drink aggressively and unpleasant with our request. Second guessing on coming back to this location feeling very unwelcome to come there as a Oakland native. read more

one of my favorite go-to coffee shops in the neighborhood! the ambience is great -- i'd definitely bring my laptop in to do some work here when i get tired of my WFH space -- there's a good amount of seating whether you want to work, get coffee with a friend, etc. the workers are very friendly and although there may be a line, they're quick to serve everyone in a timely manner. i recommend the following -- * matcha latte with oat milk * Vietnamese coffee cold brew (DELICIOUS) * charcoal latte with oat milk looking forward to trying the turmeric latte when it gets colder. read more
