Great service/ambiance. Waited about 35 minutes on a Friday- we didn't think that was too bad. Remember the food being better. I had the traditional burger and it was not very appetizing. The special sauce on it was terrible. I forced myself to eat less than half and gave it to my husband who said "did you like it?" My response being no, he said "yeah that wasn't very good I'm surprised you ate it". For being a regular cheese burger I could have had a better one at McDonald's. Typically a place we take out of town guests, unfortunately likely wont return as there are other places to get an expensive cheeseburger. read more

Have been wanting to try Red Cow for ages. Arrived at the end of a late lunch and the server was good, but the food timeliness was a bit slow given the limited diners. Burger selection was good with lots of varieties for toppings and great buns. (The bun is a critical component and these did not fail.) Burger was solid and very good but not the overall best in the burger wars. (Kiddos and I go places where they rank burgers and chicken). Chicken tenders were huge, crisp, tasty, and very good. Like the burger, chicken got a 7 to 8. Truly solid, big serving, but for us, not worth the drive. (We live in what seems to be the chicken capital of Minnesota in Apple Valley.) We also had the peanut shrimp bowl. Again, solidly good but not spectacular. Glad we finally got to try Red Cow. Would have been fun to have had more than three of us to try more! read more

Updated review: I visited recently and had not the greatest experience because of one server but I was given a call back and a chance to explain what happened and the team really showed that they do care and this was hopefully a one off visit that wasn't as good. The place isn't that bad but we definitely had a bad experience, hopefully it was just us. Food was good enough but service was awful. Don't let them sit you up on the second floor if you can avoid it. Our server was pretty clearly not excited to be at work that day, and made errors through the meal, like only checking on every table around us but not us, forgetting info we told him that he seemed to have typed into his pos device but forgot, to charging us the wrong price on some items. Recently I came here for brunch on a Sunday in the early afternoon. Coming to this place was pure chance, unplanned. We found on-street parking very close by. When we entered Red Cow and asked for a table outside because the weather was so nice, we were able to be seated right away. The service we received was friendly and attentive. We placed our order and waited only a short time before our requested beverages arrived, mine was an NA cocktail "Aqua Fresca" composed of hibiscus, lime and soda water. Very refreshing and tart (barely sweet). I appreciated they added a thick, fresh wedge of fresh lime to the rim of the Tom Collins glass. I enjoyed the drink very much. I ordered the Baja Chilaquiles and my friend ordered the Smothered Breakfast Burrito. Both dishes were excellent; they tasted soooo good! My first bite was from my friend's dish, and her's was from mine. We agreed that each dish was delicious. One thing I felt my dish could have gone without were the hash browns. I felt they had nothing to add to the enjoyment of the dish. Next time, I'll request the hash browns be left out and that they add more tortilla chips to the plate (I think that would make the dish seem more like "chilaquiles"). Regardless, I ate most of the meal, leaving behind some of those hash browns. Crowded, parking was difficult, had to park on a residential street 3 blocks away, they don't take reservations, no inside area to stand when waiting for a table, noisy, the food was sub par, our server was nice, she was the best part being very prompt. Their menu is the typical bar food with those goat cheese type of adders. But it fits for their neighborhood. The tomato basil soup is to thick, almost like a chili. My wings were ok, but their wings. I was planning on ordering a patty melt, but It comes on sourdough, sorry but it should be on rye, caraway rye or pumpernickel. They didn't have onion rings as maybe they should have, at least based on the menu from their other sites. My partner is on the hunt for his favorite burger in the cities and this is certainly a contender! He got the 60/40 and I got the SoCal (vegetarian here!). He said the quality of meat is top tier, one of the best he's had in our quest. The SoCal Impossible burger was amazing and the aioli that came with it was simply phenomenal- it was among the best vegan burgers I've had. Service was friendly and just often enough. We had to wait 15 minutes to get a table, but considering we didn't make reservations that was totally expected. Price was a bit more than I expected, but honestly the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere was more than worth it. One note- there is seating that is up a flight of stairs. If you plan to come with folks who need extra time going up and down stairs (parents or grandparents who are mobile but might not want to use steps) I'd HIGHLY recommend making a reservation to be safe. This wasn't an issue for us, but if I were to take my Grandpa here we would have had to ask for a different table. read more

Had a great lunch at Red Cow St Paul. I've been to majority of the Red Cow locations and love that there is consistency with quality at all of them. We happened to be in the St Paul area and craving a burger. I love the turkey burger here and my hubby loves beef. Perfect balance to make both of our bellies happy. (FYI: They also have a veggie burger and more options if you don't eat meat.) We sat upstairs, which was a lot quieter than on the main level. Our server was Sander and he made us feel right at home. A server can make or break an experience and he was friendly and made great food ideas that even made a picky 12 year old happy. (She got the 60/40 burger... it comes with candied bacon and mustard on top of a burger that has bacon blended in it) and paired with their French fries. They are my favorite truffle style! I normally get the turkey burger subbed in the breakfast burger (peanut butter and fried egg) without bacon, but I haven't had their traditional turkey burger in years. I'm glad I had it. It has a great balance of flavors and even some pistachios to give crunch. With truffle fries of course! My hubby had the Barcelona burger that had thin ham and a sweet pepper on it. This was a tasty and unique burger for him. (There are quite a few options). We always love their Brussels sprouts to get our greens in! I consider myself a patty melt connoisseur, and today I enjoyed one of the best patty melts ever! Red Cow in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is where I found this delectable little treat. First off, I sat on the outside patio on a very nice sunny day and started off with a beer. They have a really really great beer menu. I ordered the patty melt and fries. When they arrived, I feasted my eyes on magnificently toasted sourdough bread containing a juicy beef patty cooked just right, with special sauce, onions, and cheese. I picked it up and took a bite and my taste senses were screaming with joy. I immediately declared it the best ever patty melt period. The fries were crisp and tasty, and I enjoyed every single one. Red cow feels like such a staple in the Twin Cities area. Despite the fact that almost every American restaurant does a hamburger, this is my go to restaurant when somebody wants an American classic. I have been to this location two separate times, once for brunch and once for dinner. The brunch was awesome as they gave us free mini donuts, but the wait time was super long despite having a reservation. The other was for dinner, we came in about an hour before closing and we're seated almost immediately. I highly recommend the peanut butter burger, as a vegetarian I always about the impossible burger. I do feel like the charge to sub out the regular patty for an impossible patty is ridiculously expensive. On who buys impossible meat I know it doesn't cost them nearly as much as they're charging. You could argue that this is a restaurant and they have to up charge but it doesn't make it super affordable to continuous come back. I don't think I would recommend the tater tot's, every time I come here if they are a different level of crunchy. Sometimes super hard and sometimes not hard enough. I do recommend any type of fry, but probably stay away from the side salad. read more

This location is cute. I enjoy the atmosphere here. The staff not so much. Long wait times for drinks, it wasn't busy so I'm not sure why the wait was so long. Long wait times for refills and the check. I love the Red Cow brand so I'll be back to see if I have a different experience but for now, it was disappointing. The food was fantastic, I was satisfied on that end. It took a lot to get the satisfaction. When I visited the avenue was under construction so parking was a huge bear. This establishment shares a neighborhood with many popular spots and you can easily spend 15 minutes looking for decent parking. Plan to arrive really early if you have a reservation. Outside eating is available and it's popular at this location but the bar is a highlight at this location as well so you gotta be prepared either way. I'll be back! read more

We were able to get a reservation by calling the restaurant. Everything was taken online but they had a lot of availability (inside, upstairs, outside) when I called to check. We were seated outside and received water right away. The strange thing is that the waitress came back to drop off a QR code menu and didn't ask if we wanted to order drinks. Maybe a small detail, but we had been seated for several minutes before she returned. I ordered a frose and was a bit disappointed that it wasn't as sweet and fruity as the last time I had ordered it. It was still very refreshing, perfectly boozy, and unique in that a little basil leaf is placed on top to really enhance the flavor. My fiancé ordered a Moscow mule and found it to be too strong with the ginger. For food, I would definitely recommend the Buffalo cauliflower. This was cooked to perfection--no mushy veggies here. There was a bit of heat, but nothing too intense. I ordered a 60/40 burger and had been advised the medium well level I requested may be hard to achieve due to the high bacon content. When I received it, I was pleased to see my burger cooked exactly as I ordered it. I also had the gluten free bun. This was one of the best gluten free buns I've had. It was fluffy and substantial, not crumbly at all. The sweet potato fries are always a must here. Be sure to upgrade for them! read more

I keep updating my reviews for Red Cow (across multiple locations) every few years, because this local restaurant chain keeps changing their menu -- adding and removing hamburger options, and also making changes to their food quality and presentation. Back when I first started going to Red Cow, they offered a hamburger on their menu called "the Blended Burger." It was the best restaurant hamburger I've had in my life from anywhere. And when it was removed from their menu a few years ago (in favor of an Impossible Burger), I was crestfallen. Since my last visit last year, they also removed the Bison burger from their menu -- this was one of my wife's favorites. Red Cow offers two general categories of hamburger: thick burgers made with a blend of different meats (cooked to desired doneness), and burgers made from thin hamburger patties presented in different ways (cooked only to medium temperature). Since my last visit the thicker meat blend burgers have been cut back even further. My wife suspects this may be because of COVID, since many restaurants have had to cut back their menu options. I hope that is true, and that more options come back. In my visit today I had the 60/40 burger. The presentation was nice and the cook quality was good. It eats like a good burger. But something was different than I remember: the burger was... salty. A strange quality for a burger. Not sure if it was the bun, the cheese, or the candied bacon. The fries at least were as good as ever. And as always, great service. My wife had the turkey burger. It came with a very weird aioli that looked like tartar sauce and tasted like cottage cheese. I tried dipping my fries in it, and walked away confused. Red Cow is still good, but I have to say that over the past couple of years some of the magic has been lost. Still a great experience, especially on a date or with a small group. But I can no longer say that these are the best burgers in the twin cities. Hopefully Red Cow will get it together and find their old magic again, now that the COVID pandemic is lifting and people are out again. Went tonight with a group and had to flag the server down to order, she was sure to make us aware that we were an inconvenience to her. Fries came out cold and requested fresh ones. The server promptly brought out the cold fries mixed with maybe five hot ones. The bleu cheese dressing used to be made in house and is clearly out of a bottle now.
