We got a gift card a year ago for Christmas and I realized the email said it expires in 12 months, which would be this coming week, so we got out there. The staff member I spoke with said they actually don't expire, but I'm glad we went anyway. We chose the Gift Holiday escape room and booked online two days before. Our game master Andy did a great job catering to our family of four's needs--our kids are 8 and almost 12, so he asked if we were looking to beat the high score or if we wanted hints if he saw we were stuck. I let him know we wanted to try to solve it ourselves, but we wanted to beat the room. He provided a great amount of help but always at the right times. We solved the room with five minutes to spare which felt great. We don't have beat it without his help, and it would've negatively impacted our experience. I appreciated the option where more competitive people would need or want fewer hints. He had great enthusiasm and a pleasant attitude. I played the Lost Ruins room with some friends, and we made it out with under two minutes to spare. We chose the unlimited hints options I think (or whatever was the most) and used around 5-7 in total. You get a bonus hint if you can solve the riddle at the front, which was fun. This room had a lot fewer high tech audio visual effects than some escape rooms I've done more recently. It was a lot of more classic puzzles, nothing insanely cognitively complexed. There were some frustrations, like getting pieces in exactly the right order but one fairly symmetrical piece was just upside down/ not locking properly with magnets. That's the kind of thing it would be helpful if the game master could comment on when they see us get the order right and lose 10 extra minutes... they did give us some time back because the piece was a little glitchy. We had multiple binders to use as reference for many clues, and one of them was really out of order, which also confused the flow a little as we were trying to flip to the same pages as each other. We found some of the puzzles a little far fetched to figure out without a hint to get started. All in all, though, this was a very fun way to spend an hour with friends and earns a solid 4/5 on escape rooms for me! I appreciated it wasn't too scary (I hate the ones with super loud jump scares and things / people popping out at you!). Recommend! We did a clue correctly but it didn't open the doors so we lost a lot of time. The attendant had to come into our room to manually open the door for us. We thought the clues were fine except for the last one. There's no way we could have ever figured it out. With 2-3 hints, we were able to solve the room with five minutes left. read more

Wonderful experience! I booked Red Door Escape Room for my birthday evening with some friends. We had excellent service from the moment we walked in, until we left. The entry, bathroom, & escape rooms were clean & well thought out. We had a great time & found the Christmas room very challenging. We don't frequent Escape Rooms so a lot of help was needed, but we still had fun. When time ran out our host kindly showed us what we were missing & what would have been needed to escape. Disappointing Experience We originally booked the Encounter room but were told upon arrival that a component was broken, so we switched to The Ruins. Unfortunately, the experience didn't meet our expectations. The room had no AC and was uncomfortably hot the entire time, which made it hard to focus. The puzzles didn't feel very intuitive or connected to each other, and the overall flow of the game felt disjointed. We were also specifically told that nothing would require more than "two fingers' worth" of pressure to open--this completely threw us off on two puzzles where more force actually was needed. That confusion ultimately contributed to us losing the game. I recently had the opportunity to visit the Red Door Escape Room with 14 of my colleagues and we had a fantastic time! I had called ahead of time to inquire about how our large group would be accommodated and was told about the "Locksmith" package which included three separate groups of five. We completed the waiver online ahead of time and arrived in time to start the game. We divided into three groups-one of the groups did "The Gift" room-which I hear was challenging and fun (although that group did not escape). The remaining 10 folks divided in half and each went into an identical game-Lost Ruins. We were able to play the same game at the same time in separate rooms-and compete with each other. One group did not get out, while another (my group, thank you very much) escaped. It was very fun and challenging. Our host was gracious and generous with the hints to ensure we didn't get frustrated and stop having fun. At the end of our games, we took some group photos and the staff told us about their rewards/frequent player program. If I lived here, I may sign up for that since we love doing escape rooms. But for those of you that do live locally, check it out-it's lots of fun! read more

My friends and I have been frequenting this company of escape rooms recently and this company is not my favorite. We have tried out 3 rooms Red Door and we have came to the same conclusion overall. The puzzles in these rooms are not as intuitive and the room actions don't feel like they connect. I have experienced rooms where cabinets open prematurely and rooms with extra un-accounted items that throw off the solution. The quality control is disappointing and this is not an issue other companies have as frequently as Red Door does. When you are spending $200+ to be in an room for 30-45mins, you really should be experiencing a much higher level of quality. Out of the 15+ escape rooms my group of friends have completed in DFW, our least favorite ones have been with Red Door. Many of the other rooms we hold top times for so we are not inexperienced. We really disliked the the ruins with the constant use of a binder of pages we could not take out. (It was almost like completing academic homework at times) I wish they were more creative with scattering clues about the rooms instead of having it all centralized in a binder. The puzzle at the end did not even function properly. The warriors way room is a little better, but you feel very unsatisfying finishing the room. Their room had drawers that open prematurely and puzzles that solve without anything happening. It feels like the staff at red door do not regularly refurbish their rooms. Their policy on booking is also very disappointing. My previous visit here, I wanted to book 2 rooms of 3 person each for 2 consecutive time slots instead of 1 room of 6 but the staff here and management forbade it. Having gone to many escape room companies, I learned the policies of this company before booking. All rooms are private and the minimum party size is 2 here. In addition, they charge $35 / person regardless of room size. Seeing these are the rules and wanting to get more action out of my party of 6, I called and booked 2 groups of 3 parties into 2 available time slots. They informed me that can't be done and would not explain about how that is against the rules. If I would have made the booking online separately under 2 different names, I would have been allowed to make it, but because I decided to inform the staff of this, management will not allow it. In addition, they even added that if I had tried to get around them and booked online, they would force our 2 groups together. I'm paying the same price as if any other 2 separate parties of 3 would and it's very frustrating they would treat customers this way. Having gone to 3 escape rooms with this company, I would definitely recommend the many other escape room companies in DFW. It is the upkeep of the rooms and the management's "informal" policies that make this place not as entertaining as it could have been. The staff here have been friendly with me, hence the 2 stars. Upon entering the facility to be quite honest, I wasn't sure what to expect. I chose to go on the cinematic journey known as "Lost Ruin". In the lobby, suddenly, my brother burst into the room. How did he know I was coming? Why is he here? I hadn't seen him since he moved to Florida. His skin was burned raw like leather that has been left in the sun. He was shirtless in a pair of jorts and was rambling about something called a "pub sub". He begged to join me on my quest into lost ruin in order to reconnect from the distance we'd endured. Our game master, Jay, was the kindest soul I had ever met. When she entered the room her presence immediately brought a calm over him as he became less agitated immediately. He was starting to look a little like himself again. When we got into the room, it was an immediate struggle. He kept talking about how the room reminded him of "reptile jack's" pool house. Who is reptile jack? Why has he been to his pool house? We had trouble getting going because he referred to everything as "jit" making it nearly impossible to understand what he was referring to. When we solved our first puzzle a door popped open. For some reason, the idea that there were hidden doors in an escape room proved to be a trigger for my brother. He began scrambling around the room talking about Pedro and how he's been inside his walls. I grabbed onto him, pleading, no, begging him to relax but in the skirmish I was knocked to the ground. Like the voice of an angel, the ding of a bell rang throughout the room. A clue had appeared on the screen which brought my brother back to reality. I thought to myself "Pranav, he just always knows what to do, like the guiding hand of a father." Although we did not get past the first portion of the room, this was not because we were unable to but rather because me and my brother sat on the ground as he was sobbing, repenting for his actions. We just went here with friends to let our children experience their first escape room adventure. We chose the lost ruins but actually should have chosen something even easier than that. With 4 adults and 4 children ages varying from 5-13 years. It was definitely a lot of fun. All the rooms are a little tight even with our kids. Everyone had so much fun solving riddles and trying to escape each room. We didn't make it to the last room but it's the experience. The only thing I would wish is that they would have provided us with another flashlight as it was really hard to see and the person in charge of the flashlight was busy moving back and forth between the ppl trying to solve something and needed light. The Ruins was a MAJOR disappointment. From the moment we walked in - disappointment. The clerk/attendant/game master asked us to fill out waivers but we just had visited this same escape room in May - only 4 months ago. I signed, confirmed signature, checked the box & submitted 3 times before clerk could confirm receipt. Not a good start . Once in The Ruins room 1, it is dark and I suppose it adds to the difficulty but if your audience is over 45 (and that's the audience with money) Red Door is just irritating. The props that should pop open or reveal something glitch and the moment passes by the time the attendant has to come in and correct it or make it open for you. Or heaven forbid the lantern they give you actually dies and they have to come in and bring new batteries. Poor prep work & faulty props. read more

The only thing I would suggest improving is the red door scheduling on their website. We originally went on the site to book for a Monday. The site defaulted is to Tuesday b/c the biz is closed on Monday. We did not realize that until we arrived on Monday and the place was dark and closed. Decided to take my husband here for his birthday dive he's a complex thinker. While it wasn't my first escape room, it was his and it certainly still felt like my first one lol. We had so much fun doing this! Maddie was literally the best! I can't remember her exact tittle however I will refer to it as a "host or sensei" lol. She was very helpful in breaking things down, explaining everything and she just made everthing fun! Now , Do not think this is easy because it's not! We were like Whhhhat the heck. We couldn't figure some of it out without hints lol! They were all so nice and truly just good sports with us not getting the clues. By the way, we did The Gift. It's 3 rooms. 2 complex rooms. Bring your A-game and ask for Maddie :) oh and we ALMOST ESCAPED. ALMOST LOL The process to schedule a time was simple. I literally did everything from Google. I don't remember exactly but it was around $32-$34 per person which is a little more expensive than others but their reviews end the experience back the few extra dollars. You choose which room you want when signing up. You Aldo have up sign a waiver before starting. It's best to take care of the waiver before going because you have to arrive 15 mins early so that you can watch a video. Then you get started in the room at your set time. Maddie said that my husband and I struggled mostly because it was only 2 of us and coming with a group is a little easier because of the number of thinkers. But again. We did good for 2 people lol. I've done two of the escape rooms here. For both rooms, I wasn't able to solve most of the puzzles and needed constant clues to get through it. Even with using so many clues, I didn't get even halfway to the end. The puzzles are extremely hard to solve and most are very non-intuitive. It's really disappointing since the rooms are much bigger and more elaborate than other escape rooms in the area. They really need to rethink their puzzles and make it solvable by normal people within the timeframe given and with a minimum of clues. read more

You have to get used to non linear thinking and be prepared to do pretty big jump In conclusions, but themes and design are pretty cool. The GM was alright, and sometimes the clues were maybe a bit too straightforward and weren't too great at leading you on. Also the upsell at the end was a bit much. Had so much fun here. Staff was courteous and very helpful. Rooms were perfectly engineered and built for the puzzles. Only complaint I have is that some props needed to be tightened or secured to its surface. When things move that aren't suppose to be moved it can trick you into thinking it might be something that needs to detach and used towards a puzzle. That can waste a bit of time. Staff probably should check each room in detail weekly to secure items down or fix props to where it does what it needs to do. This is a minor thing. Other than that I love Red Door escape rooms! This was my second time doing an escape room, but my first time attempting a room from the Red Door company. The challenge we chose was 'The Gift'. I really enjoyed it. It was frustrating at times but I think that is part of any first time escape room experience. Now that I know how this company sets up their clues/puzzles, I think it would be a little easier if I attempted another escape room with them. Compared to the other escape room I did, this one was well organized, clean, true to theme, and the clues were well-hidden and ranged from easy to difficult during different parts of the game. Our group consisted of 3 adults and 1 seven year old. We each enjoyed this room immensely. I went to my first Escape Room and did The Lost Ruins. I imagined Indiana Jones immediately. Faison was our game master. He explained the basics and then the set up of the game. Then it starts. Your in a room and need to gather clues, solve puzzles, work together to move forward. The time goes by quickly. Different perspectives are key. Getting paired with two other people was a neat approach. The game master watches can give clues... and is listening to help out when needed. Super fun and interesting. They have hard and easy levels for all ages and difficulty levels. I did two back to back and our game masters Kat and Sal were amazing. They were attentive and were quick to give hints when needed. I recommend starting off doing the room "The Gift" to ease into escape rooms. The more rooms you play, you can eventually get a T-shirt and a Red Key which unlocks your free plays. I'm still working up towards this now. This Plano location is easy to find with lots of parking. There are 4-5 rooms right now. There's a riddle in the front which you can solve to get an extra hint for the room as well!
