This place is really great, It is one of the best dining experiences Ive had in quite some time. I had the fettucine with blackened chicken and alfredo sauce, my buddy got the wild mushroom and kale ravioli and we split a cheese/meat board. All of it was just amazing. The sauces were incredible, made fresh and flavorful. The service was just as good as the food, taking very good care of us. Even got me an iced tea refill without me asking...she was paying attention! Very friendly, good service, definitely 5 stars all around. Definitely coming back here as often as possible. read more

One word-bland. No flavor in the shrimp scampi at all. The chicken parm was okay but I'm not impressed. Will not be back.

Red Fox has a great patio!! It's large and you can sit under a tent, or not, depending how you feel. The inside of the restaurant is lovely as well. My friend and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch there, and we were pleased with the food and service. I had the pasta with blackened chicken and she had the salad with scallops. We liked each of our dishes and both walked away with leftovers. The lunch menu offers lots of sandwiches along with salads, pastas, and other entrees. The dinner menu looks great too. I plan to go back and try it soon! read more

What happened? A restaurant that never-ceased-to-satisy turned into a restaurant I'll never visit again. My $60 steak arrived overcooked. I complained. The next plate arrived with the explanation, "this is the steak you should have gotten because the other steak you received was the wrong one." Yeah. Sure. The second steak was delivered really (too) fast, which suggested it was a left-over steak. It was. It was under-seasoned. It was not warm. It was not as large as the first steak. It was a disaster. I guess it had sat on the shelf waiting to be delivered. It was tough. A knife had a hard time cutting it. My teeth had a hard time chewing it. THIS. WAS. A. $60. Steak. Never again. Ditto what a previous reviewer said about the menu on the website being different from what you get in person. That was a bummer. We dined this evening, and it was busy. Luckily reservations through OpenTable got us in right on time. The wait staff was pleasant and kinda slow, and almost forgot to take the order of one person at my table! This place doesn't have any vegetarian entrees, however, they made the gnocchi without the chicken, so at least that was good. That was an issue because we checked the menu online beforehand to see what the options were, then you get there and it is an entirely different story. The ambiance was nice, the parking was ample. The noise level was very loud, and the restaurant layout was kinda cramped and a tight squeeze with food-wielding waitstaff snaking their way through the entrance path to get to tables. But the food we did have was great! I had the chicken scallopini, and I thought it was pretty darn good. It was a large portion but a steep price at $30. You'd expect to get a salad or a side dish for that price too. I'd visit Red Fox again, but next time early on a weeknight when its hopefully a little less busy. read more

Visited here with my family over the weekend. I ordered the Ribeye ($65) and it comes with one side. Honestly, for the size of the cut and side I wasn't horribly disappointed with the price. The quality of the food was very good and the space was comfortable. The staff is personable and attentive. No complaints, we had a great evening. read more

Came here with a couple friends after Red Fox re-opened for outdoor dining after COVID. We sat outside on the lawn at a nice, quaint table. There was a band which was kinda loud, but it was nice to feel a little bit of normalcy again. It was a Friday and they have 1/2 off martinis which was great, but there is no martini menu lol! The server felt confident he could bring me a martini I would love (I am very particular about my drinks and dislike sweet, so I was a tad concerned about this lol), and he did well, brought me a semi-spicy and lightly sweet drink that I have no idea what it was, but I would get it again! For an app, they also had $1 oysters (my fav), they were incredible! Served with cocktail sauce and a vinaigrette that was not incredible, which is usually my favorite. I think they forgot an ingredient(It tasted like pure red wine, like actual red wine). The oysters were so good it didn't even matter though. Ordered the calamari as well which came with fried hot peppers too-great! For dinner, I ordered the Zuppa De Pesce-crab legs, shrimp, scallops, calamari, clams and mussels in a Fra Diavolo sauce over linguine and it was pristine! It was huge and delicious. The sauce wasn't overly spicy and the seafood was fresh and cooked perfectly. For dessert, I ordered the carrot cake and that was also decedent and giant, I don't know how I ate all this, ha! Oh yea, and I had a dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and a cappuccino. Yes, I went alllllll out! So, if you're looking for a place that has it all, this is your place. Be prepared to spend a bit of money, but it's so worth it, you are paying for the quality of great food. I will be back here as soon as I can. Oh, and it's a great date spot too! read more

My experience was very frustrating due to parking and miscommunication. We arrived 10 minutes early for our outside seating reservation. However no parking was available within their lot. I searched and drove around the parking lot, waiting for an opening for 22 minutes. When noting was found we asked the hostess for additional parking options and there were none. When we asked if it was possible to park in a lot across the street it was stated, "we can't say yes, but we doubt they will tow cars". I parked across the street and as I made it to the table 30 minutes after my original reservation everyone in the restaurant was notified that cars are being towed at the lot across the street. Not a good start to the evening. The high point, the server was very good and offered solid recommendations and details of the offerings. The food was presented well but was lackluster in flavor and somewhat overpriced. I would rate the overall experience as average with work needed on parking and value. read more

I have tried almost all the entrees on the menu here. The martinis (cosmo is my go to) are so delicious, meticulously, garnished with a special touch by my favorite bartender. For starters the New York calamari does not disappoint sautéed with capers, olives garlic in a lemon white wine sauce with plenty of calamari. Careful of the hot peppers yikes! Next is my favorite entree Ahi Tuna Steak over steamed jasmine rice, veggies and delicious mango sauce. Topped with sesame seeds. I try to save room for dessert but it doesn't seem to work out. I am told all desserts are made on site and they look delicious. I highly recommend Red Fox in Middletown and Glastonbury. read more

Visited on 9/9/22... What a pleasant surprise. This is tucked away in a quaint and cozy location. The decor is Mediterranean, the service is intentionally good, the food is amazing. I'm sad to review this with 3 stars ! We had a gift card from family and finally used it! We got food to go and were disappointed. We never write reviews on places but I felt I should because I'm bummed. We got the meat and cheese which both being Italian we were kind of confused why they offer jalapeños with this dish it didn't make sense. Also for the price you pay for n we r and cheese you don't get a lot. My husband got a chicken ceaser salad. We were bummed they dressed the salad sadly we had to throw the other half out because we couldn't eat the rest the next day because it was pre dressed and got soggy! I got the chicken Caesar wrap and fries it was ok but soggy as well. We really hope we can try it again and our experience is different read more

I came here for a small banquet and thought the food was really good and wanted to try dinner so my fiancé and I set out on a late Saturday afternoon but way before the dinner crowd. We were seated right away and chose to eat outside. Their outdoor dining setup is really nice with tents, lights strung and lots of plants everywhere we loved it. Our server was awesome asking us how we liked everything we tried. The food was awesome too! They gave happy hour daily from 3-5 and we took advantage of that ordering a dozen oysters ($1 each!!) and she had a 1/2 price specialty martini ($5.50). I should add their bread was nice and fresh but the real attraction is the fresh oil / pesto dip with hot peppers- just amazing! A snack of its own. After bread and oysters we shared an appetizer of clams casino and stuffed mushrooms- both excellent! Next we shared their lobster and crab bisque which reminded me of a creamy crab soup. Least remarkable of everything we tried but still very good. We then shared a veal scaloppini and shrimp dish served over capellini in a creamy vodka sauce. I forget the name but something "de mare". WOW! I don't usually order pasta dishes out but this was amazing. 2 jumbo shrimp and lots of very tender veal in this super amazing sauce with mushrooms and asparagus over the capellini- home run! That filled us and we were both in awe how good everything was complimented by an attentive and engaging server. 5 plus star meal and experience and we can't wait to come back and try more, but definitely another dozen (or 2) oysters! read more

We just had my birthday party at Red Fox this past Friday evening. They suggested for our party to gather in the upper outside dining area. The set up was beautifully elegant. The menu choices for groups were perfect and substitutions were allowed. The food was promptly served, hot and delicious.... and they did not skimp on portions! The staff were efficient, engaging and helpful. The night was quite a wonderful memory for me, and our guests were complimenting on our choice of venue. Came here for date night and it was well worth it. It's in an interesting location - nothing much around except for offices and a pizza place. When you walk in, you can tell that they are big on wine, tons of bottles. Looks really nice. Related to that, there is an extensive wine menu but the prices, particularly by the glass, are very reasonable ($7-$9 for most). Decor here is a bit dark (and the carpet looks like it's lived a good life) but overall not too bad. The service was good and the staff were nice and friendly. You start off with bread and some dipping oil. The oil has a bunch of spices in it and is pretty good. For our appetizer, we split the Red Fox combo (stuffed mushrooms, clams, and mussels) with a creamy sauce. Very good and well seasoned. For my main I had the gnocchi with pork medallions. I really liked it. It had spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and Gorgonzola cheese. All came together for a really flavorful and tasty dish. My husband had the chicken scallopini over risotto. He loved it. I tried a bit and I'd have to agree that it was very good. For dessert we split the carrot cake. Pretty good, although a little dense. Overall a great night out and not overly priced. As we live in Westbrook and we were meeting friends from Canton this was a perfect midway point. You can find it only with your GPS as it is not in downtown Middletown. It is in a residential neighbor with a gravel parking lot and a pizza joint near I91. The restaurant looks like an old VFW and the outdoor dining does not have much of a view. Inside is a surprise. A very elegant old style white table cloth dining area. The Italian food and service were really quite good. The pasta and salads we all had were well prepared. We will be back. read more

Red Fox Restaurant was wonderful with helping me to organize a 90th birthday party for my mother. They provided a room that was easy with handicap accessibility and spacious for a party of 35. We could control the music and temperature in this area. There was plenty of room for wheel chairs and walkers. We were allowed to hang a banner and pictures on the wall. The food was fabulous and Eldis provided excellent service (even packing up tins for guests to take home the extra food). He and his staff made my mother's day very special! I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning for future dinners when we are back in town to visit! Thank you! read more

This place seems to be booming everybody having a good time. They have a very extensive menu. The service is spotty. It took us a long time just to get silverware. My wife's beer order was wrong. The truth is I just got off on the wrong foot here. I could not find a single item on the menu. Ended up just getting a cheeseburger. We were with a group of friends who rave about the place. I absolutely adored Red Fox and cannot wait to come back again. Being a martini connoisseur, I recommend the Red Fox martini, naturally. I also recommend going with whatever daily specials they have, because our waitress did not steer me wrong with the fig and prosciutto flatbread and the mascarpone stuffed grilled peaches. My husband went with the chicken alfredo and I went with cornish game hen with mashed potatoes and it lasted me 3 whole entire meals. Their bread is fresh, light, and airy, so if you're trying to cut carbs, forget about it. The atmosphere inside is nice and chill and I can't wait to see what they do for the holidays and what their holiday specials are. We visited the new Red Fox on Rt66 in Middlefield on July 7 2024. Started by ordering 2 lemonades, and was delivered to bitters and soda drinks. We returned then for 2 sodas. We order calamari for $15 and was delivered 12 pieces covered with parsley. This tasted good except that we only got a tablespoon size cup of marinara sauce. My wifes meal was eggplant, of which she said was good, but the pasta on the side was well over cooked. My meal was clams over linguini for $31. Neither meal included a salad, that was $7 extra. Well my meal had precooked pasta that the chef took out of a container, put in a bowl and nuked it. Seriously over cooked pasta and then flopped the bowl onto the plate and then ladeled water broth chopped clams on top. Then 6 clams were placed around the side of the dish. The clams had been severed from the shells all ready. And in the end the server stated he didn't charge us for the sodas. But he did charge us for the undrinkable lemonades that we returned !! As someone who works in the industry, I don't usually write reviews for restaurants. However, this has to be the worst "fine dining" experience I've ever had. Me and my finance had a 6:30 reservation on Valentine's Day. Now before we even got in the restaurant, their parking lot is an absolute disaster. Cars are parked staggered and parked in the middle of the road which made navigating extremely difficult and dangerous. The line of reservations was out if the door so they clearly overbooked. We waited 20 minutes for our table to be cleared. At this point we have been seated and have been waiting about 20 minutes and we get our waiter. He asks what we'd like to drink and we inform him we have no drink menu. It takes him 15 minutes to get us one and another 30 minutes to come back and take our order. 10 minutes go by and we get our drinks. I had ordered an old fashioned which came with no orange twist or cherry, my fiance had ordered the "smoke on the water". Her drink was terrible. We waited 20 minutes before i eventually waved our waiter down to hopefully place a food order and to take her drink back. We very politely told him she didn't like and and that she'd like something else but that we would still pay for it. To which he replied "no no you drink I don't want to waste it" and put it back down on the table. He then left to go get her other drink. I have NEVER had a waiter refuse to take back a drink, that to me was absolutely ridiculous. Another 20 minutes go by he comes back with her drink and I tell him to take the other one back again, and that we would like to order some food. We quickly takes our appetizer order and then takes both menus out of our hands and walks away so we are not able to order entrees. At this point we didn't argue because we just wanted some food and then to leave. 1 hour goes by and we have yet to receive any food or other drinks. I try to wave some one down however 2 waiters and both managers are too busy taking photos and videos of the line of reservations out of the building. I have never seen a manager be proud of over booking on a holiday and instead of trying to help make sure the upset guest are happy THEY ARE TAKING PICTURES????? Unbelievable! After another 10 minutes go by I wave down another waiter to ask where our waiter is and if our apps will be ready soon. He goes to check and never came back. So we got up and left. We were there from 6:30-9:15ish and only was able to get 1 drink. We will never be going back and I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Go to a restaurant that would care about your time and your experience not just caring about how many people they can get through the door. read more

Brought a large group here for a lunch meeting. We were promptly seated although the table was very cramped, our chairs were nearly touching the other dinner's near us. I went, on recommendation, for one of the panini sandwiches, blacked chicken, and a side salad. While we waited I did sample the bread and roasted pepper/olive oil spread they placed on the table and found it to be very good. The sandwich was large and had plenty of filling, I just found it to be a bit bland with not enough spice for my liking. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their choices. Went there with reservations for 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving day 2022 and they had run out of turkey! Unbelievable! I had my 86 year old mother with us and we were looking forward to a traditional turkey dinner. So disappointed and angry that they did not consider reservations vs. turkey dinners. My mom and I went for a birthday dinner and it was nothing short of amazing. The food was very tasty and the atmosphere was nice and quiet. The waiter was very friendly to us but did not seem too friendly towards a few of the wait staff. Not sure if they are a family owned business but he seemed to be a little rude. Dessert was amazing! I always get My favorite creme brûlée whenever I can. It was very good. Price wasn't bad for the quality of food and the atmosphere. Definitely want to go back soon. read more

Visited Red Fox for the first time 4/9/21. It was packed but we got to sit in the bar. Service was ok. Food took quite a long time to come out but they were super busy. My meal was very good. I had the veal shank....it was outstanding. It came with lobster risotto. The risotto was overcooked and lacked a good rich flavor. Asparagus was very good. My hubby had NY strip. He like his meal. The bartender was on point and I will come back to try some of her fantastic cocktails. I do feel that this restaurant is very overpriced. We had an app, 2 glasses of wine, 1 dinner each, and 1 dessert, no coffee. $130 All in all, I will give them another chance. The veal was so outstanding that it was the redeeming factor that night. read more

While my grandparents were visiting me in Middletown, we stumbled across Red Fox Restaurant & Bar in a coupon booklet. Even though I've lived in the area for a few years, I hadn't ever heard of it before and the menu looked good, so we decided to be adventurous and go for dinner. It was slightly in the middle of nowhere in strange location with a big, dirt parking lot. The location threw us off a little bit, but what really threw us off was when we got inside. The outside looks cozy, almost like a diner, but the inside has a more business casual/formal feel to it. We were dressed casually, so we felt a little out of place with the white table cloths and uniformed waiters and waitresses, but other patrons were also dressed casually, so we didn't feel "out of place" very long. We ordered the Grilled Zucchini Rollatini as an appetizer to split between the three of us and it was INCREDIBLE! The bread and oil they give you is fantastic as well. For my meal, I ordered the Pan Seared Scallops, while my grandparents ordered the Zuppa De Pesce and Potato Gnocci. Let me just say not one crumb was left on any of our plates. I think Red Fox might have the best seared scallops in Connecticut! They were cooked perfectly, humongous, and seasoned perfectly. Everything we ate was phenomenal. We didn't have room for dessert, but I'm sure it would have been as good as the rest of the meal! I read another Yelper's review that said Red Fox is "struggling with an identity crisis", which I slightly agree with, but it's not a bad thing! From the outside and online, it appears to be a diner/tavern, but it's essentially a fine dining establishment in disguise. My wife and I were in the area so we searched for restaurants in the area with good reviews. Red fox had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. Awful decision on our part. The place is a cross between a wanna be high end banquet hall and a dive. They can't decide what they are. We ordered calamari and it was some of the worst we have ever had. We split the blackened chicken Alfredo and it came out with chicken tenders on it. When I asked our very rude waiter he said "oh, I told them (points to a table across the way) we are out of chicken and the shipment won't be here until tomorrow. Needless to say, our experience was awful. I would avoid! read more

So I'll start with the good great service and outdoors atmosphere well done. I'll never get anything other than steak here. Great steaks. The other food is complete garbage with no flavor whatsoever.
