So the food was good and large portions. I think the red sauce is good, not great. I find it weird that they say this is like being in italy yet many of their dinner entrees come with potatoes instead of pasta. In Italy everything comes with pasta. We got calamari and the meatballs for appetizers. The calamari was very good, but the meatballs were a three out of five. The veal parmesan dishes had very tender veal and the eggplant Rolatini was also good. We had lunch at the bar and ordered from the bar menu which had some very reasonably priced sandwiches and such. I had Gary's Grilled Chicken BLT on Ciabota bread with their homemade potato chips. As an option you can get onion rings or fries instead .The sandwich was excellent and the chips were freshly made which is unusual for homemade chips. The wife had the Italian Meatballs that came with a house-made Marinara sauce that was thick and bold. Fresh bread with an excellent house-made "dipping" sauce was served with the meatballs. We also got a slice of Almond Key Lime pie to go that was fantastic. I also had a Blood Orange Margherita which is always a treat. They offer eight well chosen draught beers. Service. I can't say enough about Red Fox! The service by Eldo was fantastic! The food was exquisite, and the tiramisu martini was to die for! We enjoyed the appetizers of seasonal grilled peaches with walnuts and house made potato chips with fresh gorgonzola crumbles. The entrees were very flavorful, and the pasta with shrimp and scallops sauce was so creamy and delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection, and the lemon creme on the plate was just the right touch. I also try their famous Grappa, which is a homemade liquor, and boy, I tell you all you need is one drink of that for the night! But the best ending of the meal is always dessert! We had warm brownies with vanilla ice cream, and our server poured hot fudge chocolate syrup on top! And the affogato was another amazing treat of hot fresh espresso with gelato. I could barely get up from the table, I ate so much! All of it was amazing! They did have options for indoor and outdoor seating and a cigar room, which I loved! What a great restaurant! Where to start. Well, the menu that's on their website is nothing like the menu at the restaurant. It wasn't even close. The food we ordered was okay. Nothing spectacular or outstanding. I was really hoping it would have been. The staff were all quite nice and friendly, the ambiance was interesting. It was WAY over decorated for the holiday and there's a whole stuffed fox (taxidermy) mounted on the wall above the front windows and it doesn't look well cared for. As far as our meals were concerned, the blackened chicken was chewy and a little rubbery, and not blackened, just grill marks. The gnocchi was over cooked and pasty. The calamari was great. My husband and I wanted to try a new local restaurant for our anniversary and discovers the Red Fox on Yelp. I am not sure why I thought it was a steakhouse - yes, they have steak here, but it felt more like an Italian restaurant - so my rating is based on it being an Italian Restaurant. The good - the main dishes were excellent! I had salmon over polenta. It was a substantial portion and I ate half for lunch the next day. Salmon cooked perfectly and rice was very flavorful - even if it reminded me of rice-a-Roni it was still good. My husband ordered the chicken medallions and ate it all so i I am guessing he liked it! The bad - the wedge salad was weird. Who puts large slices of tomato on a wedge salad? I like tomatoes - but not like that. Finely chopped tomato on top to garnish, maybe. But the full slices were just no great. The dressing was too Mayo-y. I would not order again. If you have read my other reviews, I always say it's kinda hard to screw up fried calamari. These were bland and rubbery - also would not order again. The ugly- the flatbread. My oh my what have they done to this classic dish? Owners if you read this- 1. More arugula on top 2. Drizzle with a basalmic glaze at the end 3. Cook it longer! Cheese should be bubbly not chewy 4. Make your own flatbread - the prepackage ones taste like prepackage . Would I go back? Maybe with some friends but I would skip the apps and go straight for the main dish. Side notes: Parking is awful if there is a party happening - so come on a slow night. Two stars is for service not food. We try to visit this place every time we're in CT visiting our daughter (and now granddaughter). Came here in December for the holidays & to celebrate my husband's birthday. We came early on a Thursday evening (5ish) since we had the grandbaby. First, hostess seemed annoyed we didn't have a reservation but still seated us fairly quickly. No one came to our table for a very long time. A server helping the table next to us seemed concerned so he brought us waters & said he'd let our server Leslie know we'd been waiting for some time. She eventually came over & took our drink order but it took forever to get those. Eventually she took our food order & that too took an extremely long time. When she brought my husband's NY steak, she didn't bring a steak knife. She disappeared again so he had to wait to ask for one then again for her to bring it. This is how the entire dinner went. No apologies but very quick to bring the check at the end. This is not a casual dining place & the prices reflect that so you'd think the service would be spot on but not on this night with Leslie the server. I'd be hesitant to come back based on the service we received & the fact she ruined a birthday dinner with family we don't see very often. Food was good but there are other places in the same price range with much better service. I'd recommend going elsewhere. On a side note, there is no changing table in the bathroom for customers with babies so obviously not a family friendly restaurant. Do better Red Fox. read more

Great brunch spot! Took my mom out for sunday brunch. The red fox has a nice atmosphere with outside tables, potted plants, and manicured landscaping. The service is top notch. The menu had a lot of variety, but was a little more lunch than breakfast focused. Mom loved the lobster bisque. We ordered a cup, but it looked like a bowl to me. She finished the whole thing. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, with a runny yolk, and the Canadian bacon was THICK. As you can see from the pic, the presentation was 5 stars. The potatoes were OK, but could have been crispier and more flavorful. The pastrami sandwich was club style and tasty. She completely missed my husband's order, and my salmon was cooked well done instead of rare as I requested and it was much too salty (who heavily seasons salmon, anyway?). Had a very nice dinner here this evening. Started off with a Dark & Tropical which captures the summer perfectly. Had the Fox Run salad with grilled chicken. The salad was organic and very fresh. Apples, strawberries, goat cheese, cranberries, cucumbers and the chicken with a light white balsamic dressing. My friend and I split an order of their truffle fries- they were really good. Had a business dinner here. I eat a vegan diet, called ahead and was told they could prepare a vegan entree for me no problem. On arrival I asked the waiter, he told me they could make a pasta or risotto dish. I ordered the risotto. The waiter came back to say they could not make the risotto without cream, would I like a rice pilaf? I ordered the pilaf and an Italian salad. The salad arrived heaped with feta cheese even though I clearly said no cheese. Back to the kitchen, then I finally got my salad, mostly greens, walnuts, cranberries, with just a very few pieces of beet and apple. Not impressed! Also, my co-workers have recommended Red Fox for a long time. I visited after work during a large snowstorm. Folks were more interested in getting home and I really didn't care since I was staying in a hotel. I ordered the blackened chicken pasta. The chicken had more of a chargrilled flavor than blackened seasoning. The noodles appeared to be hand made and were very buttery. The service was friendly and good. I looked at the menu at the resorption desk - spotted a rib eye My favorite - was told they had a tomahawk special as well ! - I was offered a high top in the bar area set up for 4 - was impressed with plates passing by . The entrees I had were a chicken parm sub for lunch and the chicken piccata for dinner. Portion sizes were large and everything was cooked well. That said, I felt like the prices were a little high compared to what I got. The ambiance was actually my favorite part of my experience. The decor was beautiful - it screams high class. Dark red walls, gorgeous paintings and decorations, the tables and dinnerware were impeccable. The waitstaff was also terrific. Attentive, polite, extremely professional. Truth be told- I came for the Wild Berry Nachos. Say what? My first ever dessert nacho! What's it made of? Fried tortillas dipped in cinnamon sugar and garnished with berries and chocolate sauce and topped with ice cream. One scoop of vanilla and one of strawberry. Cinnamon deliciousness. It's like warm crunchy bites of churros with chocolate sauce that you can dip into ice cream. These were really good! Lots of slices of strawberries too. Might be really good with blueberries on it as well. Just a friendly suggestion :) Of course, we didn't start with dessert though- even though it was the mission of the day. I also tried the Mediterranean Seafood Salad- octopus, shrimp, scallops, calamari and organic vegetables over a bed of greens with olive oil and lemon juice. You had me at octopus! This was such an awesome cold salad. Perfect for the warmer weather and it tasted amazing. My friend ordered the Rigatoni Pasta with blackened chicken, fresh broccoli, Roma tomatoes and finished with a fresh garlic herb Alfredo sauce. I tried some. It was great too. We loved the space. The inside is super fun. They even have a wine bottle dining room. There's a lot of wine in there! The bar looked nice too...but the coolest part was patio and the tiki bar outside in the back. Wow! We will be back to sit on there when it is not raining for sure. It's huge! Lots of foxes in the restaurant too. There's a fun one at the host stand with glasses on. My wife and I went here for our 30th anniversary and decide to throw caution to the wind and splurge. Be prepared and look at the menu before going to there is no sticker shock. The food may be on the pricey side but the portions and place make up for it. We had the option to sit inside or out and we chose outside. It was a beautiful night and it seems as if all of the outside area is either new or they just refurbished the area. It was very well done. To start we had the calamari New York style. Was supposed to have hot peppers but they weren't really there. We decided to have the 40oz porterhouse for 2 for dinner. With this came the choice of 3 side dishes. Zucchini, a baked potato and asparagus. Perfect side dishes. Ordered the steak medium rare and that's how it came out, sizzling on a cast iron plate. The meat was succulent and perfectly seasoned and cooked. We each also had 2 drinks apiece. For dessert we had the Limoncello Crème brûlée, small but tasty along with a cappuccino and an English coffee. All together our bill was $283($50 tip). This is a great spot on the other side of Middletown then is usually frequented (think Main st), but it is so worth visiting. The ambiance both indoors and outdoors. Myself and three of my friends had a great spot in the dining room and we ordered a nice bottle of wine which our waiter recommended for us. I had the 20 oz ribeye for 48$ and it came with a side. It might seem a little steep, but I'm used to going to fancy steak houses who charge more for less and this steak was flavorful. One of my friends got a delicious chicken fettuccine Alfredo.
