Cheese on bottom undercarriage...much better at home reheated in toaster oven.
    James D.

Ordered a large takeout cheese on bottom with sausage that totaled about $15.50. Sweetest sauce I've ever tasted on a pizza; can't imagine how much sugar is in this sauce, so if you don't like sweet pizza sauce, slow your roll cowboy and order up something else. Me, I ain't scared of sweet pizza sauce. I actually thought I'd be getting a round pizza, but it was a rectangular, 12 cut "grandma" style. Grandma style is rectangular in shape with dough that really hasn't been proofed to rise, so it's pretty thin. Don't expect Sicilian airy dough at all. I like grandma style pizza, almost like tavern style, so this didn't disappoint me at all. This was a tasty pizza, but is definitely better once you reheat it in the toaster oven to give it a much crispier crust; without that, the crust is just floppy and can barely support anything at all, much less toppings. Ample sausage crumbles across the entire pie, but not a ton of unique flavor and I noted absolutely zero fennel, so definitely forgettable. Next time I'll try the pepperoni or bacon. The cheese on bottom is unique, but as I expected, it got lost in the sauce and my experience with this pizza left me wanting more cheese for sure. I like lots of cheese on my pizza and this one had cheese, I just wanted more of it. If you're looking for something new to try in the pizza realm, try one of these cheese on bottom pies as you might really like it. Prepare yourself to be dominated by the sauce. Sauce domination! I found this location to be super clean, staff to be both efficient and friendly, and parking to be abundant and safe. I'll be back to try another one of their pies.

    Broccoli and onion calzone

A taste of South Troy in CP. COB pizza is a must. Grew up on Red Front. While the menu is a little different than Troy, (missing the fried chicken and linguini and clam sauce) the pizza is amazing. Tried a calzone for the first time (broccoli and onion) and it was the best I have ever had. To be honest when I was relocating in the area I was so except be moving within their delivery zone.

    Nice crispy bottom corner slice.

It's been a while since I've been at the red front but stopped in to pick up a large 10cut COB (cheese on bottom) pizza last night.

Another friend, Pam, had highly recommended Emma Jayne's Restaurant which is only a couple of traffic lights from Trader Joe's - a perfect location for our trip. The restaurant sits just north of Fred the Butcher (next door, literally) for those who frequent that establishment, on Route 9. There is off-street parking. When we arrived at 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, the front parking spaces were full. (Note: there may be parking around back; I didn't check) We thought we might have to wait for a table. Wrong! The restaurant is surprisingly spacious with two large rooms furnished with tables that were thoughtful spaced apart. A photo of an adorable young girl, whom we assumed was the dining establishment's namesake, was on the wall. Let me be sure to mention that the ladies room, which smelled faintly of bleach, was spotless. I mean REALLY clean! About the food ... my friend and I shared an appetizer of Fried Calamari. It was an ample portion (took some home) accompanied by sweet chili sauce - a nice change from typical marinara served at other places. However, the calamari was small and overcooked. As a result, what was presented was a plate of small, overly crisp rings of 90% batter. No squid! For our entrees, Barb chose the Chicken Salad Sandwich. She requested that it be served on a pretzel bun (touted as homemade) for which we were hit with an up-charge of $3.50. The chicken salad had grapes and walnuts in it and Barb liked it very much. The up-charged pretzel roll did not appear to be homemade. Very disappointing. Had she known it would be uninspiring, she would have accepted the brioche roll. Macaroni salad - not very exciting - accompanied the sandwich along with a pickle. I love seafood and was torn between ordering the Fish and Chips (halibut) and Lobster Pot Pie (an appetizer). Our server, Drew, gets a gold star for suggesting the second one when I told him I wasn't a big eater. Apparently, the halibut, while highly recommended, is a sizable portion. The pot pie was superb! The rich, creamy sauce was divine. I couldn't eat it all and will enjoy the rest of it for lunch today. Emma Jayne's menu has something for everyone. Our server, Drew, was informative and attentive. While we may make other food choices (skip the calamari and pretzel bun but keep the pot pie), we will definitely return.

While my wife ordered a Saratoga Sparkling water ($4.99), I chose a can of Guinness ($6.75) after hearing the brief listing of drafts available. We also placed an order for the Italian Long Hot Peppers ($13.99) before we even thought about what we might choose for entrées. These peppers, stuffed with ricotta, sausage, red pepper, Romano and gorgonzola cheese, are finished with toasted Italian breadcrumbs and a balsamic glaze. They are so memorable that even though our last visit was 2 1/2 years ago we have no problem remembering to order them every time we dine here. Yes, they were as delicious as ever. My wife had a rare craving for steak and chose the 6 oz. Filet Marsala ($25.99) with angel hair and mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly to the requested medium-rare, it was tender, and very flavorful. The marsala sauce was also very tasty. My choice from the evening's special menu was the Shrimp Riggies ($24.99). The rigatoni was cooked perfectly as were the bay shrimp. A lightly cheesed sauce adhered nicely to the bell peppers, hot peppers, onions, shrimp, and pasta, adding additional flavor. I probably didn't need to accept the additional parmesan cheese on top when it was offered by our server. It's comforting to know we have such dependably good Italian food so close to home.

Chicken Parmesan (swapped out the Provolone for Mozzarella and Lasagna. Both were excellent. We have enough for lunch tomorrow. We finished off with the Amaretto Cheesecake, it had a graham cracker crust, raspberry sauce, fresh whip cream. OMG to die for! We will be back! Please open in Southern Florida! You are needed down there! No where like NY for some good Italian food. Our waitress was top notch, thank you Angela!

I find this place to be the pinnacle of a successful local pizzeria. The ambiance is also good. I am looking for a location that sells a good variety of slices, has sit-down tables which you actually want to sit in (no rocking tables and dirty floors for me), and has friendly staff. We recently came here again while in the area and I rediscovered it. It is definitely the best... bar none. They expanded next door into a location previously used by H&R Block, and the increased dining space is wonderful. The variety of slices they had at lunch is staggering, and not just the usual suspects either. They had eggplant lasagna pizza; chicken Fra Diavolo pizza with hot peppers (yum!); mac & cheese pizza with or without Buffalo chicken; salad pizza; etc. All looked good, and my Fra Diavolo pizza has become my favorite here. Of note: their Hawaiian pizza is a white pizza (no sauce), which is extremely unusual, but they provided a cup of sauce on the side which restored balance to the galaxy. I should point out that every Italian restaurant has their own style of red sauce: some are too acidic, some are too salty, some are too heavy with dried herbs, and some don't use enough. This place has a sauce which is similar to my Grandmas (the best!), and it is salty and acidic and oily and delicious. I could see myself parking in a chair one afternoon with a good book and slowly trying slice after slice. Since we live only about 20 minutes away, I think I will need to make the trek up to here more often.
