Big props to them for having a gluten-free option, but the gluten free pizza is not an enjoyable eating experience. That said, I only hear positive things about the regular pizza here, and they have good service. They deserve another star for continuous customer satisfaction, and improvement. I tried to order delivery other day, and it was chaos, probably due to World Cup. I called my go to Pizza directly (Paesan's), they answered, took my order lickety split, and delivered the best deluxe pizza there is around here. They never skimp on the cheese, and the dough is perfect. Wife also wanted to try their Philly cheese sandwich, which I sampled one, two, three, maybe four bites. Not bad. Paesan's is my go-to for pizza whenever I have an event with my staff. The food is always hot, fresh and delicious. My only complaint is that, when you order for delivery, they charge a delivery fee that they TAX. The sales tax is not just on the food. I would add a much larger tip if there was no delivery fee and taxing that fee makes it even more difficult for me to justify a large tip. My recommendation would be to pick up your food whenever you're able. read more

I enjoyed a paesan pizza with a meeting at work the other day. nothing like a free lunch with pizza which was was very good. The cheese slice was salty but savory and I had a slice of pepperoni which was also good and they are always very greasy but heck that gives it a lot of flavor right!. Then just the other night against by better judgement because I remember not liking their hot subs previously when I've have had them before; Well I went for the hot eggplant parm sub not ever again because it's too simple for me, no herbs or flavor whatsoever. It's hard to put into words just how disappointing this pizza is. I recently ordered a medium BBQ chicken pizza in honor of the first football Sunday of the year. What was delivered sure looked like pizza but that's where the good stuff stops. The pie arrived warm, not hot, and the rubber-ization of the cheese had already begun. The pie was overcooked, but not burnt, with the top portion almost completely baked away from the bottom. What was left was a dry and chewy pizza. The chicken that was used as part of the topping was clearly cooked at a time long before my pizza made it to the oven for my order. Granted, Paesan's primarily caters to drunk college kids who cannot decipher between good and bad pizza in their various states of inebriation. However, this isn't the case for us all. My memories of this place are very profound. When I attended college in Albany, (St. Rose in da house) Paesan's was the closest to city pizza I've had. This statement still stands on all counts. From the looks of the other reviews, Paesan's seemed to have slided down a bit. I can tell you that the two best things on their menu other than the pizza were the Shrimp Parmigiana & Philly Cheese Steak heroes. These were excellent sandwiches. I can't speak on them now. I haven't been to Paesan's since the 90s. That was the spot though. I'm not talking like pulling a "dine & ditch" in Denny's on Central Ave (guilty MANY times, good laughs though). You respected Paesan's back in the day. Nothing like hanging with the brothas, playing ball in that playground across the street and getting some "NYC" pizza. I don't know what it is about the sauce or the cheese they use, but their cheese slices always taste odd. They are very very thin and greasy also. However, their broccoli tomato slice is delicious and the crust is nice and crisp. I'm not sure if Paesans came under new ownership since the last time I've been there but it is has definitely improved but until they get their cheese slice to my liking, this probably won't be in my top choices for pizza in the area. read more

They have the best spicy Buffalo wings I've ever had, and the stuff tastes excellent--even cold the next morning... BUT .... if Paesan's or the delivery guys screw up your order in any way (ex. accidentally cancels your order instead of someone else's, forgets one of your items), they will never compensate you! they have good food, but terrible customer service, and seem to forget that you PAID for your food. read more

Paesan's was, and probably still is, an institution in the student ghetto of Albany. There was a period of a few days where some guy was running through the playground across the street from Paesan's and randomly assaulting people on the sidewalks nearby. One night my roommate and I were getting a slice when the guy who had been routinely assaulting people decked a frequent Paesan's costumer in the back of the head. He ran into the store bleeding while everyone emptied out and chased down the perpetrator. Shit was always out of control. So if you're not coming here for the occasional knock-out blow to the skull, you probably should at least try for the pizza. The crust sometimes seemed a tad undercooked for my taste, but the sauce and the cheese usually made up for it. The reason why Paesan's was the best on the Ontario & Madison block was due to their ability to custom make basically anything that you could think of. A few roommates and I would commonly order buffalo chicken ranch pizza without any sort of problem whatsoever. This stuff is worth the extra 30 seconds it takes to walk over from Madison Pizza and I Love NY Pizza across the street. I'm from Long Island, so I am familiar with GOOD pizza. Ugh. Why did I trust the reviews? Ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza and had high expectations for it, seeing as how you pizza-illiterate Yelpers claim this to be the best pizza in Albany. Oh, how bitterly disappointed I was. The crust was chewy and tough, somewhat reminiscent of gnawing on a soggy piece of beef jerky. But the real issue I took with this pizza was the complete lack of BBQ sauce--I ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza and expected to actually taste the BBQ sauce in every bite, but the fine owners of Paesan's Pizza obviously think otherwise. So, as hard as I tried to overcome the thick layer of tasteless, poor-quality mozzarella and chunks of "chicken" glued onto a tanned-leather crust by just enough BBQ sauce to hold everything together, my boyfriend and I just couldn't get through our first slices. The kicker is that the manager/owner we voiced our concerns to actually *BLAMED US* for the poor quality of the food--apparently we should have known, as first time customers, to order the BBQ Chicken pizza with extra BBQ sauce. I'm tempted to give this place a 2, but I thought, that rating is reserved for places like Papa John's. First off, I deduct a point off of Albany because it seems like you do not have any awesome pizza joints. I wanted delivery and found 2 places in the Troy area (DeFazio's and Mick's) that wouldn't deliver down to the Albany. The pizza tastes like any other decent pizza places. It honestly sort of just tastes like the frozen pizzas you get from grocery stores. So in that mindset, the pizza is probably too expensive. I paid 25 including tip for a large with 3 toppings. The order came in 15 minutes so that was a star deserving quality. They also take card over the phone so if you don't have cash, you can do that. In short, if you're lazy and want someone to cook for you and get it done quickly (besides your other better half), I'd say go for it, but just expect mediocrity. I would rather spend that 15 minutes nagging to get that other person to cook me a steak. read more

The cuisine I missed most in college was pizza. Sure there numerous pizza joint in Albany but few can stand up to what I was use to back home in Queens. At one point it got so bad I thought I was going to swear off upstate pizza all together; that is until I tried Paesan's. Like a little bit of Brooklyn on Ontario street, it is closet you can get to New York pizza in Albany. The sauce isn't too sweet, it's not overly doughy and most importantly it taste good. Now normally I am a pizza traditionalist, preferring cheese or pepperoni and sausage to the crazy pies, but I cannot recommend Paesan's without suggesting you try the chicken parmesan pizza.
