Where to begin.... I have been a regular at the Red Garter for 2 and a half years and there are more reasons for that than I have words for. A) the Staff - Let's face it. We have all been to places where service can be snooty and lacking. Complete opposite at the RG. You get sweet and sassy and friendly, and sassy isn't a bad thing at all :) Since the first time I went in, they have remembered my name AND drink. Scotch on the rocks with a lemon twist, by the way. ;) B) the Food - Comfort food - burgers, nachos, and the fried stuff. Never disappoint. Fantastic selections of sandwiches and salads on the lighter fare. Fun weekly specials too! C) the Atmosphere - Feel like playing pool? Darts? Hanging out on a patio with friends? Even sitting with your laptop and doing reports (and yes, I do that)? Or simply feel like easing up after a long day of work? You can invite your entire social network or roll in solo without the slightest hesitation. D) the Regulars - Don't be afraid of US :) We're kind of awesome, kind of cooky but always welcoming. This is a relaxed and fun bar away from the main college strip on 4th ave. They have great deals on pitchers of beer, eight pool tables (4 outside where you can smoke, 4 inside), a ton of bar games, and a jukebox. There are tons of TVs if you want to watch a game. The food is also pretty decent too - general bar food, but done not too badly. This bar is very big and there's a lot to do. It's also relatively inexpensive. I'd recommend it! read more

Went for dinner and a couple drinks. Was completely ignored at our booth for fifteen minutes-- almost walked out. (And no, the dining area was not even close to busy.) Server was a bartender who made no effort at being personable. Mostly I felt like I was putting her out by, you know, asking for food and beverages. Good bar food. Nice to be at a bar with such an extensive menu. Food arrived quickly and as ordered. Then it was time to wait for the check. After being completely ignored for twenty minutes, I finally went to get it myself. First time in my life I haven't left a tip. Also, why does it still smell like secondhand smoke? This place is not a really classy establishment, nor does it pretend to be really classy. It's a dive bar like you see in a lot of movies where everyone's pretty polite and just enjoys their drinks. It's where I go to have a burger and spend time with friends, have a nice conversation and a few laughs. I really like this place for the atmosphere. It's very chill and a great spot to watch the game. They have one big projector screen and multiple smaller televisions around the main room and the game room (with a couple of pool tables). The food is mediocre and what you would expect from a sports bar (a lot of deep fried items). The food was really, really great and the drinks are decent and cheap. I would like to give this place 5 stars because our server (Christian was her name, I believe) was the most awesome server I've ever had, and I worked in the restaurant industry for quite a while. She was personable, lightning fast, funny, and charming. Can't say the same for the other server who initially had our table. The first server said "are you getting food or what?" when we told her already that we were waiting for more people to join us (we weren't even there ten minutes). Then she audibly groaned and walked away. She had a horrible attitude and we thought about leaving until we saw the other server and asked her to help us out, which she graciously did. She should be paid more for having to do double the work because her co-worker sucks. read more

Came out on a Friday night to get something to drink and eat and it happened to be on a UA basketball night granted we figured it would be busy. But the service was pretty inexcusable we even waited about 15 minutes to even get seen and then from the time that she served us drinks another 15 minutes to take her food order and you get the picture... The food was pretty good the wings were great the black and blue burger was great but the combo basket was bland. What's worse is staff was put off when we would ask for our waitress. Maybe we will sit inside instead of the patio and hope for better service. read more

Great food at a decent price. I've only eaten lunch there and it's never crowded. My only complaint is that it is so dark inside that it hurts your eyes to walk outside when you're done. Service is pretty good. Definitely try the sour cream and onion french fries! read more

I ordered a Burger medium and it was great, from top bottom it was how a burger should be. The coleslaw was tart, sweet, and crunchy. The service was prompt and the food came out quickly. I will definitely have lunch here again! read more

The Red Garter is a place you might avoid seeing as the name implies something naughty and there are no windows on the building. It's not that, it's pretty much an awesome rendition of any rec room you spent the 80's in. There are pool tables, red naugahyde booths, tons of neon signs, and lots of flat screens. A few dart boards and a nifty jukebox makes this place a perfect reminder of my childhood. (I'm Irish and from Wyoming, I grew up in bars and rec rooms.) The bar looks like it's outfitted with someone's old kitchen cabinets, albeit filled to bursting with a huge array of liquor. Nothing fancy about this place, but I swear they have the coldest bottles of beer in town. The tap changes occasionally, they recently added Moose Drool, but always offers pitcher favs like bud and bud light, or as I call them, the classics! The service is attentive, but not overly friendly. Pints don't stay empty for long. Most of the servers know me by now and have the bottle open by the time I take a seat. They have amazing burgers and know what medium rare means. Traditional pub food, fries, potato skins, chicken tenders, and sandwiches are offered at fair prices. It's all good, it's all greasy, and don't look too close behind the swinging doors to the kitchen. Good beer, good service, good prices, good food, laid back attitude, and plenty to occupy your time. I was with a group of roller derby girls. I was seated at a table for 4 on the patio. I am not a derby girl. Friday 27th. Memorial weekend. Unfortunately the conversation turned into a Veteran bashing. Now I am a Marine and was wearing a Woman Marine Veteran ball cap. I had surgery on the previous Monday the 23rd of May. So I really wasn't going to be confrontational. I had said that the conversation really wasn't one that should be spoken about if Veteran bashing was going to happen then I was leaving. I just got my food and non alcoholic beer to the table. Unfortunately the person continued to say things about not just Veterans but also now the Country. So I got up to leave. I walked away. Then realized I wanted to take my food with me. So I went back get it. When I did I told Ron Sperm ,yes that was the man who was talking inappropriately. I told him the usual military response,which is that the right to his opinion was a freedom earned by the blood of the men and women who gave their lives. Now to my point, all be it a bit late. I was told that I was to leave immediately that TPD was on the way because I had threatened this over served obviously drunk man. Only 4 days after surgery and bandages all over my chest visible. But I had threatened Ron Sperm a regular customer. ??? Now my question is does that in any way seem feasible that I would so? That as a Marine and sober that I would not maintain composure, given that I was aware he was completely intoxicated. In fact I had offered earlier in the evening to drive him and his companion home. Now would it seem like Red Garter should have considered all of the situation? That perhaps a Marine on Memorial weekend who is 4th generation Marine and sober really could handle the situation without violence. Let's add that I had my 50th birthday the day before. So I should have been having a nice time. I was physically held by the arm as the blonde waitress pushed me to the exit as she dumped my food into a bag without a container. My husband went to find out why I had been not only been treated in that way, but mostly why was I touched when it was obvious my bandages were visible. And also to ask Ron Sperm why he had treated me so disrespectfully. He did not enter the bar, only asked over the railing. To which again Red Garter immediately responded with a call to TPD. At this point some "bouncer" was threatening to physically h arm my husband. Which was rather amusing. My husband was upset that I had been handled and that Red Garter had treated a Marine Veteran who had just ordered a NON ALCOHOLIC BEER the way they did. All the while protecting the drunk regular customer. So I plea to all Veterans to find elsewhere to enjoy a beer and a bit to eat. Anywhere else. I plea that all persons whether military or not consider, do you really want to spend your money in a place that treats our military members this way? In fact my experience was so horrible that if you are considering going and see this and decide to go somewhere else. I will buy your first beer for any Veteran that messages me on July 4th. read more

Still a good place on our return visit on a Friday. Still know what's missing? Live Music. They have a good location for it at the end of the bar area. We heard a good group, "The Coolers", the other night at Famous Sam's at Golf links. Now that is a restaurant/bar that serves up great food (like the Red Garter) and great music- blues and R&B. The place was hopping and people were coming in by the droves to listen to the tunes and dance the night away and have great food. Red Garter, are you listening? Live Music and great food.
