Decided to try Red Ginger based on the Yelp reviews and ordered the Pad Thai since it was high recommended by reviewers. I was very very disappointed in what I got. It was a make shift dish of noodles with a few peanuts on top, red pepper flakes scattered throughout, a dried up lime, and some lemony sauce I can only assume was supposed to make it taste good. All in all, it was the worst pad thai Id ever had. Maybe it was because it was carry out? Maybe it was because it was later (7:30pm) on a Thursday? Either way, it was a waste of $11 and I wouldn't go back. But if I do, I would definitely dine in and see what the staff suggests to order. read more

Terrible service. It was over 10 minutes after we sat down before our waiter stopped by. It took an additional 30 minutes for our appetizer to be brought out. Then the wrong order was dropped off at our table! No refills or offers to refresh our drinks. Avoid this place!!! Go to Orchid Restaurant in White Bear Lake instead. read more

I really enjoyed my dinner here. The cost was reasonable and the portions were huge. I split a meal with my coworker and we still had leftovers. Had to grab the menu myself and as I was reviewing it, another customer came in, and the man at the counter jumped up and greeted him. Figured maybe I came on an off day. Being somewhat of a connoisseur of foods boiled in grease and smothered in msg-ladened sauces, I've had my fair share of Americanized Chinese foods. Some stand out more than others. Red Ginger, you just kind of flounder in the middle of the pack. Now I will admit I'm basing my review off of the buffet, which is generally not as good as made to order. But that's your time to shine- if you don't have any signature dish that stands out when at lunch, why would I bother ordering it off the menu on the weekend or at dinner? The answer is, I wouldn't. The food itself is ok, but as I alluded to, nothing really stands out, save for that time they were clearly using old chicken thighs in a recipe to basically avoid throwing it in the garbage. Over all it's standard, middle of the road Chinese food served in a nice looking restaurant with a full service liquor bar. Unfortunately, I've taken Red Ginger off of my rotation. I generally prefer to not abuse the "all you can eat" aspect of a buffet. I'd rather take food home and eat at my leisure. Since Red Ginger raised their carry out a full dollar a pound, it's just a math problem- why pay more when the quality isn't any better, and I can just go down the street Hope's and pay considerably less for the same quality, or Guang Zho, who in my estimation has better food that I'd actually order off a menu? Red Ginger, we can still be friends, but there are options that better suit my boiled-in-grease needs. This was worst meal I have ever had. The orange beef was all soggy breading with minuscule pieces of meat and basically tasteless. The orange sauce tasted like it was made with Orange jello powder. The combination appetizer platter was also disappointing. The egg rolls were tasteless and over fried to almost burned. Used to be really good, and big portions....but it's seriously went down hill. Got our food tonight and the chicken tastes like it was cooked in plastic Tupperware, the lomaine was crunchy and really dry/hard, and the rice was really hard. I really like there Dim Sum here. I believe this will be my usual spot for Dum Sum. We went on a Saturday afternoon at 2pm so it was relatively quiet and cart service came right over and serviced us, which was completely okay with us! Items are always more fresh this way, and plenty to pick from. The dim sum order list/menu is easy to figure out if you're familiar with dim sum items and know what the items are (even if you can't read or speak Chinese). They're separated into sections: steamed, fried, congee, rice noodle rolls, and dessert. read more

Yeah so the hubby and I have been here a couple times to dine in; ordered carry-out a few more times, and it's always good (except for the egg rolls which are just so-so, but then it's hard to find great egg rolls). However, tonight was particularly awesome. We ordered carry-out again and we were both super hungry so we ordered enough to feed 4 or more people. We ordered a large shrimp fried rice, a small chicken/mushroom chow mein, a Red Ginger Pad Thai (has all the meats in it), and some house egg foo young, which also has all the meats in it. For $35 we got what looked like enough to feed a hungry family for a week (that makes me feel sort of guilty). But it didn't stop us from feasting like a couple of kings, while our dogs sat drooling and taking in all the smells (and eating bits of turkey that I keep at the table to feed them while we eat dinner-yes they are spoiled). Their egg foo young, which we've never tried before from their, was absolutely phenomenal. For $5.99 you get 3 huge patties, cooked to perfection, plus the gravy and white rice, and it was sooo good. Their Pad Thai was delicious as usual (I've had that before when we ate in)-delicious tender noodles with delectable pieces of chicken, shrimp, beef and pork, seasoned perfectly, just the right amount of spice, with some leaves of different spices like parsley and basil that compliments the other flavors perfectly-oh and it comes with fish sauce on the side. LOVE fish sauce! Yummy shrimp fried rice, big portion, generous on the shrimp. Tasty chow mein with lots of chicken and veggies, their "small portion" is easily enough to make one person full. We hadn't ordered the chow mein from there before either. So maybe it was because we were just both hungry and it was a luxury for both of us to be home and feasting like that on a weeknight, or maybe it was because we tried a couple of new things, or maybe their chef was just kickin' ass that night. Whatever the reason it was a DAMN good meal, and I felt the urge to share with everyone-no not my leftovers, just my opinions. And now I'm done :) read more

My new favorite Chinese restaurant! The veggies are crisp, cream cheese won tons are done right, and the staff is attentive. Their Kung Pao chicken is the best I've had. Haven't tried the buffet, but for the amount of food the lunch specials and dinner plates are a great deal, plus plenty of leftovers. So happy to stumble upon this gem! read more

I love Red Ginger! I really do. I have not had the Pad Thai there, well, because it's not a specialty of theirs. The things I recommend are The Crispy Walnut Shrimp (or Scallops if you prefer), The Spicy Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna and the House Lo Mein. The food does take a little bit of time, but it's because they don't have pre-cooked portions done. When you order, they make the order then, and don't have a bunch of pre-made sides and stuff like that, where it's just heating up your food. Waited 2 hrs for delivery, food was under cooked. Pan fried noodles were so soggy, no way they ever made it to the pan. Probably running so late on the order they just slipped everything together. Meat wasn't even seasoned... ordered wonTons, don't. Severely undercooked. Again, might have been due to time but all in all woulda been better off eating a TV dinner. Simply delicious food, and great service! I started with an order of egg rolls that were fried to perfection. They were crispy, but not at all greasy. The chicken and vegetable filling was very flavorful. If you enjoy hot mustard, theirs definitely has a good kick to it! For my entree, I ordered the house special chow mein with shrimp, beef, pork, and chicken. The white sauce was not too overpowering and was a great tie in for the dish. Each meat had its own distinct flavor and they all worked well together. Our server was very friendly and welcoming. I would be very happy to go back any time I'm in town. read more

To start off with the host was terrible, very unfriendly. Sweet and sour pork was all deep fried batter; the the tiny pieces of pork that were there were chewy. My girlfriend's beef was chewy too and noodles where burnt and oily. However the cheese wontons were pretty good. Service was terrible, had to walk up to the host to ask for chopsticks and a coke. Took my mom out to dinner yesterday, and I had a dream about the house pad Thai because it was that good... so good that I am contemplating having dinner out two days in a row. We got oyster wings (not wings of oysters, but chicken wings dipped in oyster sauce) as our appetizer, and Mom got the chicken vegetable which was honestly as good as the packaged stir fry you'd get at the store. Now, my Red ginger pad Thai though! That was the bombdiggitybomb!! We had this waitress that nearly talked our ears off for no damn reason, and my mom was amused by her; I wasn't. Overall, it was an interesting first time experience, but I'd hate to sit, and endure the chatter of that older waitress. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! My Wife called Red ginger and the first thing she told them was she wanted delivery service and had a coupon for free delivery and free wontons of which I was sitting right next to her as she told them this. She placed our order and was told it would be fifteen minutes. Now we have ordered delivery from Red Ginger previously with out incident and ate in as well and always satisfied with the quality of there food. After about an hour my wife had called to check on our food and was informed it was still in the kitchen, when questioned if it was still coming she received argumentative and rude accusation that she had only asked for the free wonton, now had I not been sitting next to her at the time of the order it may have been questionable. She was told they could deliver but it would be another thirty to forty minutes. Not an acceptable resolve, Both myself and my wife have spent thirty plus years in the service industry and Red Ginger must think customer service is not important enough to keep their tables full and their phone ringing. i myself called the restaurant and asked for the Owner/Manger as he had delivered to our house previously wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt that there may have been some miscommunication and when I explained to him that we really enjoyed their food and would like to keep returning once again there would be no listening and the conversation quickly became a one sided argumentative conversation ending with me leaving my phone number for a return call of which never happened. Maybe you can treat people like this and stay in business, I don't know but I have always given into to my customer as they are the very best and most cost effective advertising I can obtain, for the very few people that have a genuine concern or not, it is always better to take care of the customer. We ordered from another restaurant and a simple apology would have been sufficient for my return but the argumentive attitude and no call back or lack of concern is extremely disheartening and will continue to use any venue I can to inform people and future customers how this establishment is really managed. Excellent food, excellent service, excellent ambience. First visit was great. Second visit just as good. Try the Chicken Pad Thai! Warning though...if you don't like your food HOT, ask that the food be prepared with less red peppers. I thought the waiters gave us the right amount of attention on each visit and were friendly and ready to accommodate our wishes. This restaurant will be put on our list of repeat places to go to. My daughter and I had a very good experience at Red Ginger. The food was excellent and so was the service. The restaurant was clean. The appetizer of pan-fried dumplings was real good. I noticed that happy hour was from 3-6 PM but you needed to sit at the bar. I had vegetables and beef while my daughter had potatoes and beef. The beef and vegetables were excellent. Just ordered delivery. It was delivered within 30 minutes and came to us hot, but the quality of the food wasn't very good in my opinion. We ordered the honey walnut shrimp and the lemon chicken. The shrimp came with a weird thick sauce on the side and was very plain. The lemon chicken was the same. Nothing to write home about with the food here. A little spendy for the sub par quality if you ask me. Won't be trying anything here again. read more
