Needed something to spice it up a tad. So did a few dashes of sriracha sauce. The Hilltop was more flavorful. Nacho cheese, bacon, tomato..more my liking. Wanna try a few more that I an curious about. A salsa verde and ones with chili. Never disappointed. Took a star off because of the 6th Ave Strut and for the cost of sides. $2.25 for a small amount of coleslaw. read more

Love everything about the Red Hot, my usual go to for something quick and inexpensive. The service is always on point, never had a bad experience there with the service and food. Something I discovered several months back is their breakfast! Who thinks of hotdogs for breakfast? But they have more than just that. Their cheesy grits and pork belly is my favorite. If you love red beer too, the breakfast/brunch hour is the only time to get that there. Just for a dollar more you get a canned tomato juice and Bloody Mary mix with the choice of whatever beer you order. Who doesn't love that in the mornings ?! Wanted some hot dogs and found this on Yelp! Parking wasn't too difficult, just parked at a nearby Taco Bell then walked over. My mom and I grabbed a seat and were immediately taken care of. We ordered the Tideflats, Hilltop, Tacoma, Tacoma BLT, 6th Ave(?), and the Slaw dog for to-go. Within 10-15 mins, it was out. I loved my Tideflats, my mom liked the Tacoma. Okay--this is potentially specific to this time in society...but whatever. My buddy and I frequent the Red Hot. Like...we drive 35 minutes to be there almost weekly. It has an amazing selection of beer and the hot dogs are fairly priced. We never leave hungry and we never leave feeling poor. The food is consistent and pretty damned good. TRH has a few menu items I don't love and about thirty more that I like--so...that's good. But tonight...whew! There was a Karen who was ANGRY about the fact that she was asked to wear a mask while waiting (a minute) for a table and any time she left said table. The employee stated clearly and succinctly that the policy was/is ONLY when a patron is waiting (and they can wait outside maskless) and when away from her/his table. Karen threw an EPIC fit. Crocodile tears. Raised fists. Just General Karen-ness. But the employees were consistent and fair. And guess what! Karen waited outside and, when her table was ready, was allowed to come in and enjoy a meal. BRAVA! BRAVA to the employees who maintained both policy and composure in the face of outrageous behavior. Here is my update for Red Hot. It's awesome (yet again!). I got my North End Not Dog, veg, with a side of sauerkraut. Everything is so reasonably priced, good for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters, and the staff is super prompt and friendly. I also got a lavender cider, which was delicious. So, for two dogs, a side of beans, sauerkraut, and a cider, our bill was less than 20 bucks. This time I am posting pics. read more

When I think of a neighborhood bar/hangout, there should be a picture of this place next to the definition. Not only is the beer/wine/cider selection out of this world, but the menu is imaginative witty and amazing, the Red Hot staffers are always friendly and knowledgeable. Some of my favorite go-to food food items from the Red Hot include the hilltop strangler (slice of bacon, thousand island, onions, mustard, nacho cheese & tomatoes= YUM!!!), the Tacoma Boys BLT and the filthy nachos. Oh the filthy nachos.... these are not your run of the mill nachos... these are filthy delicious, topped with cole slaw, all meat chili, cheese and jalapenos. There are other hot dogs i've spied on the menu that include cream cheese (i have a known weakness for), and a hot dog with bacon and peanut butter. I fully anticipate trying these at least once. Okay, I love hotdogs. Wherever I go and I see hotdogs, I'll always always get one. My friend decided to bring me here as the first place we go to since dining in reopened. Did not disappoint!! It's been almost two years since I left Tacoma. My fir stop is TRH. The Hound Sog with sriracha was excellent as always. Jeff taught me years ago that peanut butter was great in a hotdog as long as you add sriracha. Adding bacon was a no-brained. 27 craft brews on tap, with at least 4 dark beers. Most of the brews are from the PNW. I had the Counterbalance K~ imperial stout from WA. Excellent!! BTW, the old menus are toast. Now there is a QR code to scan to get the food menu. Much cleaner process. As you can tell, this is a great place with great service. Even Elliott is still here. I remember when he was the FNG. I'll be back!!!! read more

Horrible service. Waited a good 20 minutes after eating waiting for the waitress to take the bill with our credit card ready to go. She was an older waitress and cant remember her name. She was busy chit chatting with a co worker, so I went up and gave her the card directly and she snatched it out of my hand and was pretty annoyed. Toppings that you would think would be warm are cold and seems like they expect the hot dog to warm the toppings. Kinda confused putting cold cheese on the hotdog and serving it. First time at Red Hot I order the Hound Dog. The Hound Dog is a hot dog with Peanut Butter and Bacon. Don't knock it until you try it. The Tideflats is 2 hot dogs served open faced with sooo much yummy goodness piled on top! Red Hot's location is sandwiched between a pet grooming facility and a formal attire boutique. It's a pretty small place with not much seating, and they don't let anyone under 21 in as it is first and foremost a bar rather than a hot dog shop, so don't come here with your kids thinking it'll be a nice family lunch because they will kick you out as I've seen them do. The dogs are overpriced, and some are hit and miss taste-wise. For instance, I really enjoyed eating some of their plainer hot dog creations, and the Hilltop Strangler was good. The sausages had that crisp bite to it and the texture of the buns were really nice. But I didn't like the beef sandwich. Ordinarily, a huge unwieldy soggy mess of beef and bread drenched in au jus is a thing of beauty, but because the flavor wasn't there and even off-putting, it was an unpleasant thing to tackle. I ultimately couldn't finish it and it was a shame. But two dogs and a beer or three are more than enough to fill you up, and they always have a game on, and I was pleased to see them playing the World Cup games. Street parking is easy enough to find, and it seems to be the best place around for better quality hot dogs, so feel free to give it a try with a (small) group of friends. read more

Hot Dog Bar. Need I say more? This place is really relaxed. Its a good place to hang out have a beer and plenty of hot dogs! I like the Apple/Pear Cider. Don't laugh I am not a beer drinker especially dark beer. Ack! I do know about the hot dogs though. I think most are $3.75. The hot dogs are juicy, the sausage link was good, bread was soft , toppings fresh and crunchy. I am notorious for going to a place that is famous for one thing and ordering something completely different. I was tempted to order an Italian Beef Sandwich but I got the evil eye from my guy. In the world of perfect Hot Dog joint's The Red Hot is pretty special, it's not as good as Matt's Famous Chili Dogs in Seattle (Hot Dog for Hot Dog) but they are completely different places and The Red Hot offers a much larger menu. The Red Hot is more of a Pub that sells Hot Dog's than a traditional Hot Dog joint but the Hot Dog's they sell are really freaking good. Let's get the negatives out of the way, they do not sell Dr. Pepper, how is that even possible?????? Now the great, this is a fabulous pub, this is a great place to watch a game, have a drink, enjoy some really great food and hangout with friends. The Hot Dog's are ...... not traditional, but they are really good. They don't sell a traditional Chili Cheese Dog but they do sell the Gangsta Mac Dog which is amazing. They also sell the Hound Dog which has peanut butter on it which is a hard no for me. The food here is really good, the Beer-B-Q Baked Beans are fabulous, the Filthy Nachos are absolutely delicious, and most of the Hot Dog's on the menu are really good. This is a great local Pub, and I will most definitely be back many times but for the love of God, sell Dr. Pepper and add a traditional Chili Cheese Onion Dog to your menu!!!
