We spent a long needed weekend in Foxwoods with plenty of shopping, spa, shows and food. We had a table at Red Lantern our first night and really enjoyed the food and ambiance. Service was good, menu had some great choices and food was tasty. There are plenty of choices at Foxwoods for dinner but this one was one of the quieter locations for dinner. Fried rice was very good!!! And definitely worth the money. However, about 1.5 hours later I started having stomach pains and 5 hours later I was up most of the night with stomach issues. I can't say specifically if it came from the food but I believe it did! My boyfriend ordered ribs (or something) that we're very good!!! But it was the appetizer so that portion was super small. The restaurant is definitely overpriced. We got there right when it opened and although there were about 10 or more open tables, they only sat us by the sushi bar (despite saying we didn't plan on ordering sushi) ...despite them offering the people in front of us (who also had no reservation and were a party of two) seats in the lounge. We had been here once pre pandemic and remember enjoying it. Unfortunately our experience last night was very disappointing. We ordered the Poke Bowl appetizer which was really just avocado and cucumber in a bowl with a few pieces of Poke mixed in...we've paid less in Hawaii for much more volume of Poke. The sushi roll tasted no better than grocery store quality and the fried rice lacked flavor. Our server was very nice but unfortunately we will not be returning due to the price tag for what we thought was very disappointing food. I was craving steak, but my husband wanted Asian food, so we compromised and each found something we would like on the menu. I was afraid it would be another over-priced American-Asian restaurant (one of the reasons I never bothered to try going to the Boston location), but I was pleasantly surprised by my meal! My husband got beef/chicken skewers to start, and he liked them, especially the green sauce (whatever it was). He ordered the beef and broccoli entre, and it tasted similar to how my mom makes it (genuinely Chinese). Meanwhile, I got my steak! Specifically, I got the Mongolian strip steak, which came with a perfectly cooked sweet potato and mushrooms. I usually order my steak to be cooked medium-well, but I ordered medium because I thought it might be a flat steak, and it was so tender! It was so well flavored, and the sweet potato was just soft enough, yet not at all mushy (could use a fork or knife and fork to cut into neat pieces). The sweet potato also had a crisp skin, like they were chips, and it was nice and sweet. I am such a life-long fan of the sweet and salty combination, and this hit the spot! Everything married well together. I've been complaining about food lacking flavor these days, but this meal had me talking about it for two days already! Our server was very kind and attentive to our water glasses, and she came by the right amount of times to check in, with appropriate time frames in between. The decor was not fancy (a few too many red "lanterns"), but aside from a fairly large and boisterous group, the restaurant set a romantic mood. My husband and I came to this restaurant for our one-year wedding anniversary after a day at the casino. We were seated at our reservation time at 9pm. About 15-20 minutes go by and no one came to our table to get our drink orders. We ended up flagging down another server to ask who our server would be. She stated that it wasn't her but she would go find out. She came back and said that Laura was our server, but she didn't know where she was and she would take our order anyway. We gave her our drink and food orders since we had too much time to review the menu. Our server Laura finally came around with our drink to share, the Crouching Tiger and checked in with us since the other server took our order. We were told the drink was about 1 1/2-2 drinks for a $26 price tag. It was simply okay. Nothing too crazy. We ordered the Lobster Rangoons as an appetizer and they were absolutely delicious! The sweet soy sauce was to die for and the rangoons were perfectly crisp. My husband got the General Tso's Chicken and he liked it. I got the Meat Lovers Fried Rice special. It was good, but seemed to be lacking flavor. I added a little soy sauce which elevated the meal a little bit. The woman who was not our server actually checked in with us and said "I know you guys aren't mine, but how are you guys doing?" which was very nice of her and we greatly appreciated it! Laura also briefly checked in with us. Overall what saved this place for us was the really nice server who wasn't ours still attending to our needs as well as the Lobster Rangoons. This place has a nice ambiance, I made my reservation online for 6:30p. We arrived by 6 but they weren't able to seat us until our scheduled time. No big deal. When it was time to be seated the place was busy! I ordered the steak teriyaki noodles which I had seen on a yelp review and it looked amazing. Well I'm here to tell you it tasted better than it looked! My husband had the drunken noodles and it has a bit of a spicy kick to it and I thought the noodles were over cooked. I sat on the bench side of the table and it was very low and the most uncomfortable seat I've sat on. I would not wish my worst enemy to sit on a bench like that to eat. I mean if you're a tall person you'd be screwed, if you had back problem or knee issue you'd never be able to get up. Do not sit there!! read more

Something must have happened to Red Lantern's Yelp page because I'm almost positive I've reviewed them. They've been around for quite awhile since renaming themselves from Shrine, so... I don't get it. Usually I don't have amazing things to say about Red Lantern. I love sushi, but their fish is just not up to my standards and is a bit overpriced. I do like the layout of the restaurant. But I stopped in on Wednesday night and sat at the bar for their $25 AYCE deal, and was waited on by one of the best bartenders I've ever seen. Her name? Kara Z. At first I was thinking, oh, she's just friendly. Then as I watched her work I realized she is just great at her job. Nobody's drinks ever went empty, she had a smile on her face, and she never let any frustrations show. THAT is the sign of a great bartender. This review was going to be 3 stars, hell it probably wouldn't have gotten written, but the service from Kara Z. was that good! I might even have to come back for one more meal before I leave Foxwoods. read more

I am a big fan and I love this place and the sushi they have. I drive quite a bit to eat here with my wife. The challenge last weekend, I could not get anyone to answer and when I messaged the place, they got back with me the next day. Did not work. Ate at the food court. This place is over priced and Manager Andrew was not helpful and defensive. The all you can eat sushi on Wednesdays for $25 is a good deal if you like the rolls they feature, but in addition they have 1/2 price sake. I opted for the Spider roll, which was $17, which was delicious, but it had a total of 5 peices, for that price i expected more. The ambiance was great and our server was fine. BUT when i asked if I had to get the all you can sushi to get 1/2 price sake, she said no. So order my roll and a warm sake. What she failed to mention is that sake did not qualify for 1/2 off, it was $11 for a bottle that did not give you any more than 3 of the sake cups full (which is smaller than a shot glass). When I found out the sake didnt qualify the discount server told me i should have gotten the other sake (after the fact)! SO i asked to talk to Manager, and explained that we should be told what does not qualify upfront, he preceded to be defensive and arrogant. Used phrases such as " my server cannot read your mind" and " i stand by my server" , i explained that i did not say anything bad about server and was suggesting they better explain the menu. Made a NY Eve dinner reservation for my 19 year old son and his girlfriend. He drove an hour to get there to find out "you have to be 21 to eat there". Our waitress was very attentive and took one of our drinks off the menu for us when it wasn't drinkable. I took my wife there for her birthday along with two other couples. We all had an excellent time. The appetizers were great and the meals were wonderful. I definitely recommend the Singapore rice noodle dish. The shrimp shu mai was very tasty. My friend had the Mongolian steak med- rare and said it was very good also. I didn't realize the Saki Bomb was a big deal, until I saw the other patrons there drinking them and chanting Saki Bomb- Saki Bomb. Guess I'm just an experienced drinker cause I didn't see the hype. BE FOREWARNED! I made a reservation ahead of time because we knew we were attending a show on a Friday night before a show, so i knew it would be packed. What we didn't know, is that it would be one mis-step after another. Pros: -Steak Teriyaki Noodles were fabulous (This is unfortunately my only pro) Cons: -Arrived 15 minutes before our reservation. Watched others get walked right to their tables. We were told to wait. Watched others get seated. Didn't get seated until 15 minutes after our reservation time. After they realized they forgot about us. And they told us this. -We were seated on the "Shrine" side of the restaurant. Apparently this meant we got to listen to techno music and watch flashing lights for our entire dinner. Please note, we had an 8:30 dinner reservation. At no point were we asked if this was ok. I couldn't talk to my date because he couldn't hear me. This isn't a joke. Our waiter couldn't hear us either. He had to ask us more than once what we said. - Our waiter didn't write our order down. Because of this, he forgot to put in our appetizer. - Our entrees took 50 minutes to arrive. We watched everyone around us get appetizers and entrees while we sat and waited. Recently had the pleasure of eating here last Friday night. Food was very good and my server was extremely attentive. So why not 5 stars? Well the young girl they had up front and her "seater" ( who looked 19 and dressed 16) were entirely untrained for their respective positions and accordingly were extremely disappointing. After I was seated ( which took awhile because she believed an unnecessary wait would enhance my dining experience and her stature) , I saw the seater place a party of 4 with a wheelchair bound mother next to me at a table that could not accommodate the wheelchair. I was cringing but he walked off whistling comfortably. Well after about 10 minutes they left as clearly by their actions the restaurant indicated who they cater to and who they don't. In short: Very cool atmosphere, sheek, not family place (but who really cares), not amazing sushi but very good. We'd definitely go back depending on how loud and the people that might come with the atmosphere (read below). The details: my wife and I are 37 but very social, not clubbers but go out a lot, no kids. We dressed up sexy and wanted to go all out for a night on the town at Foxwoods for my bday. Did Groupon on a Monday and decided to take that savings and throw it at food and games. Decided this was the restaurant was the right vibe. Very cool atmosphere bc in general it's all dark with tons of accent lighting, and with dark red all over. The biggest thing to look out for is probably noise but I'd still go there to see....We were there on Presidents Day so it was dead. When the bartender (we always sit at the bar to eat) said, "it's not a club night" we didn't know what she meant until we walked past the main bar to use the restrooms if you look to the right you'll see over the railing into a cool dance floor with cool DJ booth. Reminded me of Zoolander scenes. That is why you have to take the escalator to get to the restaurant entrance. The club entrance in on lower level. Again, might be even cooler. Might be too loud. The stairs connect from dance floor up to restaurant so enjoy! Very spacious. Again. Go here. Much cooler than Top Golf. I'd just get a drink at the bar before comiting to dinner if the club is bump'in like Ludacris is in town. Almost forgot the food: we had two sushi rolls. I've had better at nice places in large cities like Boston. I felt like they definitely market themselves to be as good so that's why I gave three stars. We got drinks and appetizers while waiting on our friends tom arrive. The dumplings were excellent as where the drinks. Our server came back as soon as our friends arrived and served them quickly. Andrew Bengston, the manager, who was also checking people in at the hostess stand is THE rudest and most disrespectful individual I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. My girlfriend and I had a 9:00pm reservation and we arrived at 9:10. There were three parties checking in in front of us so we ended up checking in at 9:13pm. Andrew said "we have a 10 minute grace period and then we give your table away". I emphasized that we were actually there at 9:10 and that it was currently 9:13pm. He obviously didn't care. I also mentioned that every restaurant I've ever been to has a 15 minute grace period. He was extremely dismissive and at one point said "get out of the way, we need to check in other guests". He said we could be seated at the bar so since we had a show to attend to at 11pm we really had no choice but to comply due to time restriction. Obviously Andrew does not have the customer's best interest at heart. Seems like all he cares about is feeding his ego since we couldn't help but notice that after 50mins of being seated at the bar - there were still multiple tables the were not being used. Hence his excuse for placing us at the bar was because of there being no additional tables available and that they were too busy. We made reservations weeks prior and seems like people with no reservations had priority over us. My girlfriend felt it may have been to her being a Latina dating a Caucasian man. We can't think of any other reason why Andrew would act so hostile towards us from the start of the conversation. Luckily Mary behind the bar was extremely nice and provided great customer service. Maybe the owners will consider Mary as manager soon, I'm certain the customers and employees would be much happier. He was acting like it was super exclusive and that he didn't want us there. My father has a hearing disability and the maître d' was speaking to him like he was an idiot. This past weekend a friend and I decided to hang out in Foxwoods and made reservations to eat dinner at Red Lantern. Our reservation was for 5 pm and our server was a woman named Jillian. At first Jillian was pleasant and very accommodating until another party that had small children came in. Because my friend and I were one of the first few ppl to enter the restaurant we were enjoying the quiet atmosphere. Slightly uncomfortable by very loud screaming from the party behind us we asked politely if we could move to another table; Jillian didn't seem like she wanted to ask to accommodate us so I let it go. Because we decided to stay at our assigned table, the energy with Jillian was off. She bought us to go containers and bags before we were done eating because "we looked like we were slowing down ". This made my friend and I really uncomfortable and because of this waiter we did not enjoy our experience. The food was alright but definitely not worth the price. I made reservations almost a month in advance for myself and my daughter so we could enjoy a nice dinner before a show. The dinner and show tickets were a Christmas gifts from her dad and me. In spite of making such early reservations, we were given a table at the very back of the restaurant space in a space similar to a narrow hallway. To our right was an open window overlooking the gambling floor. To our left, a railing and a view of the DJ area in Shrine, the club on the lower level. At our eye level, we had a view of the lights and other rigging above the dance floor. At first, we thought the table in an odd place but were willing to go with the flow. Then, we noticed the large broken chunk missing from the railing next to our table. This broken piece was decorated with a piece of chewed up gum. Gross! At the same time, we realized the problem with the open window over the casino floor -- a steady flow of cigarette smoke wafting directly into our faces. I asked our waitress if we could change tables, but was informed the restaurant was full and there were no other seats to be had. She did arrange for someone to come up and close the window. Once that was done (it took several minutes), the smoke issue was solved. However. The DJ just below us chose that moment to bring out a shop vac to vacuum up the massive amounts of confetti on and around the DJ area. My daughter and I found it an odd time for such loud housekeeping and were not really pleased with the experience of trying to make conversation over the noise of the vacuum. Once the vacuum stopped, apparently the DJ needed to test some lights -- by flipping them on and off ---- right in our faces. And finally, we got to listen to loud, thumping dance music. You may have noticed that I have not mentioned the food. Don't worry, there is so much to say about that as well. After 45 minutes, the one appetizer we ordered finally came to our table. We were reassured that our entrees would soon follow. However, it was another 40 minutes before my daughter's food arrived. She ordered the Hot Rock, an interesting sounding dish that promised tableside preparation. For $28, she received four very small slices of raw beef, four inconsistently sliced pieces of sashimi salmon, a small dish of halved cherry tomatoes, and two kinds of sauce. These were set in front of her with a hot rock. There was no tableside preparation. We also found it hilarious that it took well over an hour for a dish made entirely of RAW FOOD to be sent to our table. The manager, who by this time was well aware of our disappointment in our experience, sent over a plate of lobster rangoon. It was fine, but I don't understand how they had time to make that but not the dinner I ordered. The manager made many excuses about it being a busy night, but that is just inexcusable. I asked for the check several minutes after my daughter finished her meal. In spite of the many promises that my shrimp lo mein was coming right out, it did not appear until we were just about the leave the restaurant and I did not have the time (or the appetite) to eat it before the show. One of my two drinks and my dinner were taken off the bill, but the terrible experience still cost me over $50, before the tip (our waitress was great and none of the problems we had were her fault). As we were leaving, the manager followed us out and insisted on giving me his email address so I could email him before our next visit in order to have the kind of experience we expected the first time. I do not expect there to be a second time. The entire evening was unacceptable, from the location and condition of the table, the smoke, the noise, the long wait for underwhelming and overpriced food, and the inability of management to change the situation. Edited to add: The general manager contacted me personally to apologize for our experience at Red Lantern. I really appreciate that he took the time to do that. He offered to make it up to us on our next visit and, when I explained that we are only rarely in that area, he even listed other locations that we can visit if it is more convenient. It appears to be a hit and miss kind of place. Something's were really good, and something's were seriously lacking. Lobster rangoons were pretty good, although not much lobster and lots of cheese. The chicken lettuce cups could have been great if the chicken was served hot. The honey pork bun had a beautifully cooked slightly crispy bun, but neither the bun nor the pork had any flavor whatsoever, honey or otherwise. The spicy dishes are great if you like spicy, but can't be made not spicy apparently. The sashimi was nice and fresh, but the avocado was pretty underripe. And don't bother with spicy masago mayonnaise....there just isn't about masago in it to make it worth your while. So I sit here trying to decide after reading this if this place is really a three or only a two. I guess I've had worse? But it definitely made me lukewarm about going back! read more

It gets a star for service - our waitress was great. Everything else was pretty abysmal. This is maybe the second time in my life I have left "sushi" on my plate - although I use that term loosely. The Rock Roll I got was inedible. It was like they put some kraft mayo on top of three week old rice - I'm not even sure what was inside of it. The hot and sour soup was cold and not tasty. The extra star is also because they took it off the bill after noticing it was barely touched. The fried rice was okay, and definitely the best value.
