The Ward's Rd Red Lobster was a big disappointment. With prices that are that of a fine restaurant, the food was not. It seemed of poor quality, one person in our party, got the popcorn shrimp appetizer and I have seen better from the frozen section at my grocery store (Seapak) at a third of the cost. The Red Lobster at the mall is definitely outside of my normal restaurant area since I live downtown. But I have friends from Farmville who come into town regularly and have taken me out to eat here a couple of times now. A good restaurant experience can be pretty dependent on the waitstaff. If you go here to eat, ask for Starla if she is working when you are there! She is a kind and skilled wait person who has worked there for three years and knows all there is to know about the place. They have a fairly extensive menu and both times I have been there, seem to have a steady customer presence, but enough space and staff to deal with what comes along. They have all of the bells and whistles online that these National chains seem to have to attract and keep customers. Went to Red Lobster last night, and while I've always appreciated the nostalgic charm, this visit really underscored how much the location needs an update. Walking in felt like stepping back into 1999--not in a fun, retro way, but more like time has stood still without upkeep. The lobster tank, usually a lively and iconic part of the experience, was completely empty and filled with murky water. The lobby area was so dimly lit it felt uninviting, and the carpet and tables gave off a tired, dingy vibe. The food and service were good, but the atmosphere really took away from the overall experience. Red Lobster has a great legacy, but it's time for a refresh. Went to Red Lobster the day before Mother's Day in order to beat the crowd. We got there when they opened so there was no need for a reservation. Had our usual appetizer, Calamari, which is always a special treat! Hubby had the clam chowder. Unfortunately it had several shells in it but according to him, was still delicious. I wanted the sea scallops wrapped in bacon but they ran out of bacon. The server recommended an option to serve me the scallops without bacon. The service began slow. Although as time went on service got better with verbal encouragement. Comparing this visit to the last visit. I would like to go back in time. Over all food was 7.5 and service was a flighty 3. House keeping is openly displayed in the depictions associated. Don't totally discredit these individuals, they have gotten better than they were a year ago. Red Lobster is one of those chains that has been around for a long time, and everyone secretly loves them. Call it a guilty pleasure. Not having the opportunity to have ocean fish available to me as regularly as I used to when I lived on the shore, Red Lobster fills the niche quite nicely. They have a decent selection of seafood available in different cooking styles from fried to broiled with a little something for everyone. I think their appetizers, even though they are plentiful, aren't the greatest, as many of them tend to be cheesy, oily affairs. The cheddar bay biscuits continue to be deadly delicious. The seafood is typically cooked correctly, and fresh. You have to stay on top of them when ordering. Side salads for example, be sure to get that dressing on the side, or you will get a huge ladle of dressing on your salad. Prices are a little on the high side, but that is typical of this chain. A lot of times you can find a few dollars off in the way of a coupon but nothing earth-shattering like buy one get one free. Wait staff run the gamut from super helpful to adequate. To be fair we never had a horrible server here. Generally speaking the wait time to get a table is better than average, in that there is very little waiting, unlike a lot of the Red Lobster locations located in the Northeast where you can camp out for an hour waiting for a table. We had a gift card sitting around and decided to finally use it for Red Lobster. The food was fine but nothing extraordinary. There was little wait because it was a Monday evening. However the service was not very good. We were not even given water when we sat or even when we had placed our order. The server brought our water, soup and salad all at the same time. They also forgot the sauce for the salmon and brought it out separately. Lastly, they did not clear any of the dishes until dessert was served. Bought the loster out which looked great, Had a pretty strong fishy smell and was very much the consistency of rubber, had to be cut with a steak knife an tasted quite odd with a lot of garlic in/on it, Got a to go box for this 13 dollar cat feast, Then comes the fish an chips, Cod fillet, the fillet literally had standing grease on it an tasted very much like the lobster, So in the to go box for the kitty cat. Wagyu bacon burger amazing. Shrimp trio wife went in love over the shrimp. Our 25 th anniversary so went wild ordered her additional bbq bacon shrimp grilled. Shrimp love. I'm funny I don't like seafood but that burger was not cooked at a seafood restaurant it was salty it was charred flavor forgot juicy. Perfect bun. I understand the restaurant might be understaffed because of the pandemic but when you are a server to only 3 tables there is no excuse for a lousy service. I spent 10 minutes sitting there and nobody would offer something to drink. The server walked 3 times by me without even turning to check. I had to say 'excuse me' to make myself noticed and order. During the entire dinner she was unfriendly and really unprofessional. Food has never impressed me here. Ordered my steak medium which the edges of the meat were but the center was straight up rare. Blood was going all over my plate. The lobster tail was super small. We went to celebrate my husbands birthday in August. The waitress was polite, but didn't know the menu and took three tries to understand our drink order. We waited 40 min to get our food...well my husband got his and I waited another 10 min for mine. Waitress just disappeared and I was left drinking tea while my husband ate. We asked for the manager, she showed up and said she would get my dinner - but didn't. Finally it came and I was underwhelmed...cool pasta and 3 tiny shrimp. They had added the wrong shrimp to the pasta dish... the manager gave me half price on my meal....not enough of a compensation for a terrible dinning experience. Let me start off by saying I really like Red Lobster. The service was great yesterday, Micah our waiter was funny and very attentive. I got the Fish n Chips, my wife ordered the soup and salad with shrimp on the side because she hates seafood. We started with the cheddar bay biscuits and they are awesome, warm and cheesy like me sometimes :). Our meals came out promptly and my portion of fish was huge, you get a big filet of cod and fries. The batter on the fish was rather lackluster, but I added malt vinegar and it boosted the flavor. My wife enjoyed her potato soup and I also really like the wood fired shrimp, just the right hint of smoke and they were cooked well. As far as chain restaurant is concerned, I have always found Red Lobster restaurants to be professional, courteous, and high quality. You won't find that the location in Lynchburg varies at all. The manager always comes over to speak to you, the staff is professional and knowledgeable about the menu, and the food is always good. Always 4 or 5 cheddar bay biscuits in your basket, the salads are a good portion, and the seafood is excellent. The only complaint I have is that the iced tea is $2.40. read more

My husband and I went to Red Lobster on 10/31/22 to celebrate my birthday and enjoy the Endless Shrimp event only to find that the food was boring. It all lacked flavor. The Shrimp Scampi had very little noticeable garlic and had more of a watered-down butter taste. There was no pizzaz in it at all. The Parmesan Bacon Shrimp was not a good pairing. Tiny bits of bacon chips were hardly found in this dish and again, no flavor at all. I know restaurants try to cater to the healthier food crowds, but when I go out, I want to eat something spectacular! Something tasty and full of flavor. Why fix something that isn't broken? Red Lobster used to offer a deliciously crunchy and cheesy Parmesan and Breadcrumb coated shrimp during the Endless Shrimp event and it was wonderful. The Shrimp Scampi used to have a delicious salty garlic flavor. They also offered a zippy Siracha Grilled Shrimp with a tasty siracha dipping sauce. I am not much into spicy food, but this offering was just right. Both of us really enjoyed it. On this visit, we were looking forward to trying the Argentine Red Shrimp and placed an order for it, but the server came back to inform us they were out of the Argentine Red Shrimp. Wow! I did get the Shrimp Linguine Alfredo, but I think the chef must not have been taught to season the pasta water. The linguine was bland and the alfredo sauce only made the pasta taste more like a wallpaper paste with 5 shrimp on top. This meal was a big disappointment and with the increased cost of dining out, it was not worth the money.
