Service was okay. But we give 5 stars to the young lady who kept my Mom's birthday a surprise dinner a surprise. She was phenomenal. Hats off to her for pulling it off with a simple instruction of "it's not 2, it's a party of 7, but it's a surprise..." as I passed by her to go have a seat while waiting for our table. Because I'm disabled, my Mom walked in ahead of me and told this young lady, it was a table for 2 and I had no idea how I was going to tell her it was a table for 7 without my Mom knowing. This is a great quick lunch spot during the work week. I also am not to familiar with the Modesto area so it was kind of like whatever. As we walked in they were taking out some Lobsters from the tank to the back. They were just sitting in this little tub looking at us. I mean really looking at us. I wanted to pet it, then eat it. Who reviews Red Lobster anymore? That's exactly why I decided to write a review for our local Modesto store, and give you some "Pro-tips" for this store. This was a spur of the moment trip to the Lobster of redness, and it usually happens that way when we start to crave mussels again. More accurately, the sauce that Red Lobster makes for the mussels. We arrived at about 5 PM, prime rush time for any restaurant, and it was the first weekend of the month, so expectedly it was busy. There were people sitting outside, and the parking lot was full. We lucked out and found a spot right up front when someone left. There's a long bench inside for people to wait, but then you have to watch the "chosen few" walk by like a coronation, following their waiter to the throne. Besides, the bench is within eye shot of a few tables, and it's very uncomfortable to sit there while someone is sopping up lemon butter with their cheesy biscuit. We checked in, and the young lady at the podium - who's job is to hide the sacred list of future royalty from the current line of peasants, informed us that it would be a 45 minute wait. But she's ignorant to the ways of the bar area. This is pro-tip number 1. Always sit in the bar unless there's no wait whatsoever. This particular restaurant has a fast turnover in the bar seating area, and there is ample seating there. There are plenty of booths too, so comfortable seating for family. But the biggest is a 4 person booth, so you don't have to take the mother in law. Instead of waiting for 45 minutes, we simply did what we always do, which is hover in the doorway and look as imposing as possible, so anyone who was thinking about sticking around after eating and chit-chatting instead of un-assing the booth would think twice. Sure enough, there was an ugly couple sitting near the front with an obvious "get the hell out" sign on their table, err I mean a bill folder with a receipt sticking out. They got up, we sat down WHILE THE TABLE STILL HAD TRASH ON IT. Don't wait for a waiter to clean the table or you will lose your spot. So we were seated in 1 minute instead of 45, much to the chagrin of the peasants waiting in the hall. Pro-tip number 2. DON'T eat the biscuits when they bring them to your table. For one, it will fill you up and you won't eat half your dinner. Remember, the reason you came to Red Lobster? Save them, and dip them. More on that in a minute. My wife and I both ordered the butter garlic wine sauce. Also known as the mussels appetizer. But it wouldn't have mattered if they served that sauce over shoe leather, we would have sopped it up and ate it. It's the best thing they serve there, and the appetizer is full portion sized. Oh, and it comes right away, unlike an entree. Here's where you put your biscuits to work... make sure they give you plenty of napkins... DIP your biscuits in the butter garlic sauce! To eat the mussels, don't use that stupid little fork they give you. Simply dig the mussel loose from it's once-comfy home with your fingernail but DON'T take it out of the shell. Pull the half of the shell that wasn't holding the mussel in, and set it aside, then use the shell as a spoon to scoop up MORE of the golden goodness. Toss aside like a spent shell casing and repeat. We enjoyed our meal, and our waiter was awesome. He brought beer when we needed it, and took away the plates at just the right time, as we were leaning back in the booth, which is the universal sign for "Take this plate from the table before it ruins my after-experience with the smell." Came in early immediately after picking up the kids. I had asked my 4 year old where she wanted to go for her last day of being 4. She said "I want Red Lobster" So here we are now! The biscuits are just as good as always! My drink was beginning to run low and the waitress passed by and asked what I was drinking and dropped it off very immediately. Our server is friendly and patient with my 3 kids. My youngest told her it was her birthday. So she got an ice cream complimentary. Service was 5 stars! Serena is an excellent server, checking in on us several times throughout our meal asking if everything was to our liking or not, promptly brought out the check. It seems the management staff also help serve as well, checking if we needed anything and helped to bring out the crackers for our crab legs so Serena didn't have to go back to the kitchen. It's nice to see a real team effort, and not the mentality of people saying, "I'll get your server for you!" Drink refill requests for the kids and ketchup requests were refilled with a smile. This crew was awesome! They sang happy birthday to 4 patrons including my birthday girl! The food quality is up to par 3 stars...they serve seafood, so order the seafood. I've been here plenty of times. For Modesto, it's the best seafood you can get. It's not a Joes Crab Shack, but it's not bad. We have been going to Red Lobster for over 35 years and my mom use to wait tables there and my brothers and I would eat popcorn shrimp when we were younger while we were waiting for her. It's sad to see them struggling. These companies spend all this money to try and learn why they are struggling and some reasons seem so obvious. My wife (doesn't like seafood but I do) and I were looking over the menu and there was no lunch menu going on a weekend. Then my wife ordered a burger and they were out of buns. We were looking to drop in and spend $50-$70 to bucks on a basic lunch. I didn't want the Admirals Feast or dual Lobster Tails for lunch. So, we got sat at 7:00pm the dinner and service were actually fine. The server was nice and sweet the food was great. The drinks were good also. The issue I have is with the endless shrimp advertisement. Shrimp orders should be allowed at least 2 orders at a time. We waited about 10 minutes in between each shrimp refill. Which extended our dinner time a whopping 2 hours. The servers hands were tied and I understand that but we have been attending this endless shrimp event every year for the last 3 years and have never had to wait this long for shrimp refills. My husband and I just left the restaurant and I'm very disappointed. We rarely get "nice" dinners out but chose to splurge & get a good meal from our go-to establishment. We got their 4 course for 17.99. I was so excited to get the baked potato soup, it's one of the few things I've been able to keep down my entire pregnancy. By the time we received our silverware our entree was at the table. My entree came out - pretty simple chicken pasta, I made it clear fish could not touch my place. I mix my pasta around and take a few bites before I realize there was shrimp mixed in. My husband flagged down the waiter & he took my plate to be remade. It took about 20 mins. In that time my husband had finished his meal. I got my plate - no fish. Awesome. I started eating. I had to spit out my first piece of chicken. It was underdone and VERY rubbery. I went through all the other slices of chicken, all but two were underdone. The waiter didn't seem to notice the pile of half raw chicken sitting on my bread plate. We ordered our dessert to go & left extremely underwhelmed. My husband and I had our first date here 3 years ago and have been frequent diners since. Tonight, they lost our business. So I'll start off by saying its endless shrimp right now, so some time allowances have to be made. That said, here's 2 examples how the system is severely flawed. Parties of 8+ have two assigned tables. So you are basically stuck waiting until they leave. We were skipped over so much and our 1 hour expected wait time turned into that plus 40+ more minutes until we complained and learned about their aforementioned system and asked for the manager who was as accommodating as she could be despite the "system". Also, the refill policy of 1 order at a time is ridiculous. One refill of a skewer type is 5 shrimps and it takes a long time to come. It took 3 hours for everyone to be done, so yeah, no wonder the wait is so long. The servers are totally handcuffed and because of the length of time to get people out the door, their tips probably suffer a lot. I used to love going here. It was my mom and mother in laws favorite place for fish and chips. We went there yesterday after a doctors visit at Kaiser and were surprised to see their menu had changed. NO MORE FISH and CHIPS on the menu!!! Had one of my worst restaurant experiences thus far last night. I came to Red Lobster last night to celebrate my mother-in-laws 50th birthday and although it was a Saturday night and waits are expected, our wait-time to be seated was ridiculous. Our party of 7 literally waited close to an hour-and-half until we got seated. What made our wait even worse was how many other party's of 5-6 that were seated before us. The explanation provided to us by the receptionist multiple times was that they were waiting for a party to leave after they had paid their bill, which made no sense given how many other party's got seated before us. Why couldn't they have just consolidate a few tables for us? It wasn't until the third time of asking about our table that they made any kind of efforts to get us seated. This time they gave me the excuse that there were only two areas that could accommodate our party and that they were working on clearing the table for us at the time, which was a complete lie because I witnessed the crew finally trying to consolidate a few tables for us, which took them another 15mins to do. On top of all this our table didn't even have silverware and there was no acknowledgement nor apology for our ridiculous wait. After this experience I will never come here again. Came here for lunch with the family the day before Mother's Day. They were really busy but the service was great. Staff was really polite and friendly and the food was also really good. The salad was very fresh and a perfect start to our meal 5/5 The complimentary bread was good 4/5 Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Alfredo was ok. Mom didn't enjoy it too much and I tried some and I didn't either. The chicken was good 3/5 Dad loves seafood and the Wood-Grilled Lobster, Shrimp and Scallops were perfect for him 5/5 I can't remember what my brother got lol it was some lobster and shrimp combo but he said he would give it a 3/5 I got the 5oz grilled salmon with the lemon garlic sauce, with side of rice pilaf and broccoli. There are some ethnic restaurants that serve decent seafood menu items and individual entrees at grills or cafes that are not too bad. Best option is find one these spots. A a seafood lovers place comparable to what you may find in the Bay Area does not exist here. Yes, the cheese biscuits are great but that alone does not make for a great meal. My order was supposed to be ready for pick up by 4:15 pm. I figured I would give them about 30 extra minutes trying to be understanding of the situation. By 5pm they had only fulfilled maybe 10 if even that of the pre-payed orders, only one little dude in the front. I felt bad for him. 3.They clearly weren't even adequately staffed or prepared. There was no functioning system in place to expedite things, it didnt even seem like they were making the food in the orders that they were being received. At this point, I mean is my food even going to be fresh? Being that there are people still waiting who's food was to be picked up an hr before mines. Though the caesar salad was very salty even for a salt lover like me and I didn't are much for the Walt's Favorite Shrimp, everything else was great! Our server, Lisa, was such a sweetheart. Have not been for over 15 years. Decided to try it out after so long. Right off the bat not one person was friendly. It was a 30min wait which was fine so we sat at the bar. Didn't get helped for 20mins. The bartender was the slowest bartender I've ever encountered. When we were finally brought back to our table the hostess dropped the menu on the floor, slid it toward her with her foot to pick it up. We waited 15 mins for a table got seated and next to me on the wall is a roach we asked to be moved and the waitress didn't seem surprised about and moved us. The food was ok wasn't that great, ultimate feast was dry and my boyfriends steak was over cooked and rough was not medium rare. My wife & I came to eat here for the first time & it was a long wait for a table so we sat in the open bar & ordered 2 Orders of the Ultimate Feast. But took them 2 hours to serve & our server kept telling us that she didn't know what happened to our food & all she did was give me a double shot of Hennessy on the house. But nothing was getting done on where our food had went but the food eventually came & my wife & I ate our food & left. Such a terrible experience. Worst experience! Visited location on 1/5 and had server Allen. We were served our appetizers and no appetizer plates, we tried to wave him down he made eye contact and ignored us . Someone from our table had to go ask him for appetizer plates. He brought us plates that were soaked and had food on them one covered in ranch or clam chowder... disgusting . One of us never received our alcoholic beverage. When it was time to order we were told three menu items were no longer available and they were charging to replace items they ran out of in our order . Our table wasn't cleared of extra plates until we had asked to speak to a manager he noticed all the dirty plates and cleared them himself however he didn't seem to care about our concerns and jokingly said oh I'll go yell at them . I think some of us are starving for a good fish restaurant. We used to go here once every three or so months. We went in at 4:30 on a Thursday. Gee I think only two other couples were in there. i got the Thursday special and it was adequate small prawns deep fried. i didn't get my tarter sauce or my husband either, just the red cocktail sauce that I can't stand. I ordered the mashed potatoes which were plain as day, not even a blob of butter was offered or put on my plate. My salad portion and contents were fine but they put a lime vinegarette on it. It was AWFUL, DON'T ORDER THE LIME VINEGARETTE, TERRIBLE. I asked the waitress for a small cup of thousand island and she did and I dumped on the salad and it was OK. The couple next to us was very much quizing the waitress about something on the TV or internet about a certain price but the couple was not given that promotion or price. Not sure what happened here. The restaurant I see are offering cheaper meals that are sandwhiches and bowls which is a good idea. We will come back maybe by year end but no more of that awful salad dressing.!!! read more
