Food was great. Decor great. Service was good I was a little bummed they had no tostada but what I did get was really good. We had party of 6 who all had something different and everyone raved about their food. Worthy stop

This place was pretty good. I'm traveling with friends this weekend and we are staying in Boyne. We drove the quick drive to Boyne City for dinner and one of my friends eats gluten-free and vegetarian so we were looking for something that would accommodate all of us. I got the pina colada but unfortunately it wasn't as pineappley or coconutty as I wanted it to be. We had looked up the menu online and saw there was a drink that they light on fire, I was expecting something more dramatic but it was still pretty cool; my friend ordered it. I had the quesabirria tacos for dinner and they were pretty good. I really wanted the chicken pineapple quesadilla but I figured it had more dairy than the tacos; one of my other friends got it and said it was okay. My GF friend got the veggie tacos with a corn tortilla and a veggie side. Waitservice was friendly and fast as well. The restaurant is much more larger than it looks, it goes all the way to the back of the space. I would come back here again for Mexican food. We also got complimentary chips and salsa and both were very good.

Easy to get in with our group of 7 at 5:30 on a weeknight it did fill up closer to 6pm The drinks were tasty and had a marg menu with creative choices. We enjoyed the armadillo eggs and other things like tacos, burritos. Mango salad, enchilada etc. Not the usual Mexican rest as it had some less common Latin choices as well Our sever was amazing! Attentive and friendly!

Visiting from out of town. This was the second time in two years and I hope to continue to make this a consistent part of our annual ski trip. Excellent margaritas served in a fun glass. Also recommend the Armadillo Eggs appetizer. It actually tastes meatier than the menu description. Offer fresh (not pickled) jalapeños

Our first time here. Our 17th anniversary trip. My wife chose Boyne City... I was gunning for Petoskey. My wife's choice was class A as usual. Place was near packed on a Saturday night. Mostly tourists like us we gathered. We walked in lady asked how many? My wife replied 2. We were ushered to our table and a young man named Austin took our order. Within 10 mins the food was served. The food was very good. A little spicey. Hit the spot. Austin checked on us frequently. Awesome service! While walking out the owner/manager asked where we were visiting from? I proudly replied, Van Buren Twp MI. We thanked him for an awesome experience and left. Yes we will recommend this place to all friends, family or colleagues visiting this place.

Red Mesa is always a good meal. It's been a pretty minimal wait even during COVID. Great place for Mexican fare in Boyne City.

Does this establishment offer corn shells for taco entree's rather than flour? Wife has gluten sensitivity and need some dining options while we will be in the area next week. This place sounds great and plan to make a stop here...

Yes, they do and they have fajitas as well with corn. As always, not certified gluten friendly. I have not had an issue yet. Most places in this area will be kind to the gluten free people and do their best. Just not guaranteed.

Crazy that this Mexican food eatery with a small yet delicious menu sits within a 42,000-square-foot building that formerly served as an equestrian center. Now it's an eatery inside several rooms - a part of the largest distillery in Michigan. The BIG room, on a colored, swirling and polished cement floor is decorated with couches, picnic tables, a large screen for videos and corn-hole boards and other games. My spouse and I ordered a quesadilla filled with chicken, avocado, peppers. onions and cheese ($16). YUM. Prepared on a 10-inch tortilla, it was served with limey-tasting sauce of sour cream in a tiny ramekin. We picked it up at the window in the long hallway on the side of the distillery and ate at a picnic table with our bottles of Mexican Coke and Lime Jarrito in the big hall. Although the price is a bit more than we usually spend for a top-notch quesadilla, we probably will return for fish (cod) taco $6.00. The only major drawback is the distance between the parking area and the restaurant and distillery. It's up a myriad of steep steps, although there is a drop-off area near the building for those who are physically impaired.

For $55 we got 2 horchatas, a small chips and salsa, shrimp taco meal, and the breakfast number 1. My daughter really enjoyed the homemade horchata, I like mine with a little more spice but it was very creamy, lightly sweet, and I would order again. Salsa was processed smoothly with very few pieces of veg if that's how you like it, the flavor was good, very mild. The chips were not homemade but also good for being the standard tortilla chip. The tacos are American style with flour tortillas, cheese, and sour cream which is not our preferred way to eat tacos so that's on us. If you like American style these were spot on. The rice was fantastic and the side of beans were pinto beans and not refried, also tasty but soupy. The scrambled eggs with carnitas were so oily that they were swimming in the bottom. Additionally the menu indicated they came with cheese and hash brown but mine was missing as can be seen in the photo (rectified immediately and kindly so absolutely not a complaint). The green salsa was minimal, would have preferred more as that was where the only real flavor came from. I wouldn't order again due to the oil. We may return and try again as the food was fresh, nicely cooked, the service was fantastic, and the place was spotless. We just like a little more authentic with perhaps different spice levels of salsa (little more spicy).

Outside the fray of downtown Petoskey, El Cilantro has a much more relaxed vibe. It's close to the state park and ideal for hungry campers or bikers riding from Petoskey to Harbor Springs. The server definitely gets five plus stars. Helpful, fun and attentive. We enjoyed the complementary chips and salsa while waiting for our food. Our shrimp tacos, which we shared, were enough for two or one very hungry person. They looked appealing, served in a casual "basket" plate. Though everything was fine and satisfying, we both felt there was a lack of seasoning that would have made our meal next-level. We are from Southern California and may have higher standards and more experience with Mexican cuisine than most. The level of flavoring and spice would surely appeal to the palate that does not crave much heat or traditional spices. As campers, we will definitely keep El Cilantro on our list to visit for future trips.

Service was slow, it took well over 20 minutes to get our food after we ordered. It would be one thing if they were crowded, they weren't. We were there on a Tuesday at 2pm and there were only about 12 other customers in the restaurant at that time. So IMO, no reason for the long wait for our food. Our waiter was great, it was his first day on the job and even though the kitchen didn't have their game on, he did everything in his power to make sure we were accommodated. The ambiance was nice, however, their bathrooms were not clean at all. I would not recommend this restaurant. If you want really good Mexican food, go to Mangos Tequila bar and Grill. They just opened a new one on Wilder Road and I 75, Bay City. They also have one in East Tawas, and Alpena. They are family owned and have great Mexican food. Not only is the food hot, it is served on heated plates that are to hot to touch, so it stays heated through your whole meal.
