This place actually had me leaving mad. My food was terrible I had one bite and told my waitress and she didn't even ask if I wanted something else or offer to take it off my bill or anything. So I paid $15 to eat literally nothing. Also they don't have horchata, what Mexican restaurant doesn't have horchata ? Never again will I come back here. read more

This was wonderful. As a vegetarian, it was awesome that they had a vegetarian/vegan menu ready and available on request. I got the black bean cakes and they were absolutely outstanding. Everyone in my family greatly enjoyed their meal. My father's pork was initially undercooked, but when he pointed it out, the server took it back, had it redone, and gave us free dessert-and he said it was excellent. This was great! read more

What I enjoyed the most about Red Mesa was the Mexican and Latin theme. I can get Mexican anytime, anywhere, but Latin food is a little more difficult to find... Needless to say, I really enjoyed my black bean cakes and Brazilian steak! I also enjoyed a traditional margarita and a cherry margarita, both being tasty and not skimping on the tequila. I remember Red Mesa being better then what it was today. Had the Cuban Torta which was the recommended Staff Pick, could have had a little more flavor as I found myself adding hot sauces to it for more flavor. The guacamole also was lacking in flavor. Way..way..way...overpriced. Service was good over all. The place was clean. The food was average at best. The fajitas had little meat and they used vegetables as filler. The 12.00 premium margarita was super small..and more sour mix then tequila. I would not come in again. They should lower everything on their menu at least 3.00. My formula is a 60/25/15 weighting of food, service and ambience. Red Mesa is 3.5 on food and ambience and a 5 on service yielding roughly 4 stars. While the name Red Mesa evokes southwestern food, a more appropriate name would be South of the Border. Red Mesa is a mix of Cuban, Mexican and Brazilian not a bad thing, just a heads up. The have happy hour until 6 with drink specials and inexpensive small plate appetizers. We had the Cuban Black Bean cakes which were very good. We split the Maria which had a chicken enchilada, a beef tostada, and a pork flauta. The beef tostada was the best thing on the plate so I would go for the Brazilian steak the next time which seems to receive favorable reviews. They also have 250 tequilas so relive your Tijuana hangover. read more

red mesa is a decent enough place. the black beans are great and the black bean cakes were quite good. the hot sauce selectiion is fairly large, though much of it was more like wing sauce than mexican salsa picante. there are more than two vegetarian options on the menu, so i can go back and not get the same thing. i was not as impressed with the flaming cheese. i expect asadero instead of blanco. the result was bland. the roasted corn salsa is pretty good, but the chips are wretched. i prefer crispier chips with more salt. for up north it's pretty good, but it's average by downstate standards. read more

One of my favorites. From the day this restaurant opened, it has been one of my favorite places to eat. Their chicken tacos, whether they are in the hard or soft shell, are amazing! Then I tried their fajitas and I found another new favorite item on the menu. Their margaritas and sangria are excellent drinks to go with either of the meals I have their. Yummy, yummy, yummy! First of all, our review is based on this food as take out - and the fact that it still gets 4 stars is pretty remarkable (after a 20 minute ride home after picking it up) ... So, if you aren't completely stuffed after plowing through their unbelievable chips and amazing salsa ... you will enjoy the main dishes even more. We had the corn roasted walleye - sounded weird, but what a great preparation. Also had the ahi tuna dish which I would definitely order again. A little disappointed we couldn't eat there and partake in their beverages, I have heard great things about their margaritas and mojitos ... hopefully next visit. read more

Mexican food is usually not the first choice for me, but when we walked by, the place looked good, and there was a perfect outside table and we can sit with our dog, so we decided to eat here. Although I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, I do like their margarita, and this place didn't disappoint me. I was really pleased with the food too. I judge a Mexican restaurant with their salsa a chips, first it has to be free, second the chips have to be homemade, third the salsa has to be good. Theirs scored on all three. I had gordidas which I've never had before. It was a very generous amount of meat (pork in my case) mixed with shredded lettuce, sour cream, and some other stuff on top of a flat bread, very tasty and satisfying. My husband had three tacos which was also very good. I don't usually give five stars to places but I can't think of anything negative about it. Agreed... it isn't exactly authentic Mexican, but what it is is very good. The burritos are very tasty; the appetizer sampler is really yummy. The fire roasted salsa is excellent. Next time I must try the fish taco. Since I'm usually on vacation when I'm in that area, the Mexican beer at lunch also seems tastier than usual. The waitstaff is very friendly. Super popular and ridiculously crowded, the consistent thing is inconsistency. Dishes are high and low with service friendly but inattentive. Salad arrived drenched in water. Interesting menu choices but the serving of the stuffed poblano pepper was so small - half of a pepper with a tiny bit of chicken and a lot of rice and beans for $14. The flavors were good but we left hungry. I also had a cherry margarita that actually tasted like cherries (upside) but did not have much tequila (downside).
