The food at this place is good, but it's the people inside who make you uncomfortable. The staff was talking about not wanting to wear masks in the time of Covid and they seated all of the white people on one side away from us (we are black). It felt very segregated. This place was recommended to us by our sister, who is and excellent cook with discriminating tastes and I am so happy she did. We were able to be seated immediately at 10am on a busy Saturday morning. Excellent! Environment uplifting. No music or TV to interrupt focus on the family you are sharing meal with. Service efficient, attentive and friendly. Food delicious! Fresh, quality ingredients. We wanted to try a variety, so got biscuits and gravy with half regular sausage gravy and half jalapeño sausage gravy and also got the kitchen sink quesadillas. We really liked the crispy tortilla on the quesadilla. Had a nice "doggie bag" to take home too! Coffee and tea also very good. First time here, definitely not our last. read more

The one recommendation I would offer is that the servers deliver the seasoned crackers to the table without being asked. We asked for the crackers because we have been there before but the couple next to us was there for the first time and didn't receive the crackers. So disheartened coming here on Sunday. Checked in online, so wait wasn't an issue. The vibe was just different though, my family of four waited for food for over 40 minutes. This seemed unreasonable as other diners that came after us, received their meals before us. Server was negative and I suppose stressed. This is probably one of my favorite places to eat in Alvin now... the food and service is amazing and the atmosphere is welcoming... waiting at times can be long but one of the few places I am ok with waiting at. We have always loved Red Oak Cafe in League City, so we were extremely excited when we learned they were opening a new location in Alvin. We were finally able to have lunch at their new Alvin location, yesterday, and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was nicely appointed and cozy, and the service was great. Our server, Jazmine, was attentive and friendly, as was the manager on duty. The food was excellent - sampler, and pancakes (didn't get a pic). They are still ironing out some minor kinks, which is to be expected on opening day, but it was a smooth and enjoyable dining experience all-around. Coffee was really good. Pancakes are very tasty, probably don't need the syrup. Seriously, they're that good. Grits with cheese and jalapeño has kick but not overly spicy for a breakfast item. I guess because this location is new, it isn't nearly as busy as the League City location, but it's just as good. As far as I know they have the same menu. I have a lot of food allergies and this place lets you customize your food. They also have a pretty large menu. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy, but we didn't have to wait. Our waiter was very nice and accommodating and the restaurant was clean. I had the build your own scramble with spinach, jalapeños, and cheddar. It was very good and I love the hash browns as well. The staff is super friendly. The menu is extensive and I love the fact they have breakfast and lunch menus. Coffee was a bit weak. The strawberry pancakes (strawberry mix in is extra) were delicious. The breakfast platter was more than enough food and I wish I would have ordered that. The sampler comes with three choices of sliders and either soup or salad and a choice of either strawberry or banana nut. I would omit their pimento cheese since it is literally shredded cheese on a bun. Not good. The potato soup was good. I can't wait to go back and try other items. Mainly breakfast. read more

Tried this "new to Alvin" restaurant this morning. We expected a wait and it was about 30 minutes at 9am. Waitress took our order and brought drinks but then disappeared. Refills were not provided (I know it was busy and she might be new to this job, but she never came to check on us). We waited about 20+ minutes for food to arrive. It was delicious when we got it! Eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuit, Belgian waffle, and pancakes ...we tasted everything and it was ALL yummy! Waitress was quick to take our money though. Manager comes over to ensure everything is good and staff is excellent. Greeter is friendly. Mandatory mask when you walk in and out. All employees properly wearing masks at all time.
