I ordered the "Cinnabon Centers" because, like any reasonable human, I assumed this meant the soft, gooey, scientifically superior middle of the cinnamon roll. You know. The part we all fight over. The reason siblings stop speaking. The reason forks were invented. What I received instead? A cup of what can only be described as cinnamon roll edges. EDGES. The dry-ish outer spiral that society has collectively agreed is the supporting actor, not the star. Calling these "Centers" feels legally questionable. I expected elite, melt-in-your-mouth, fork-sinks-without-resistance goodness. What I got was the cinnamon roll's crust wearing a disguise. Were they bad? No. Were they centers? Also no. If these are the "centers," then I'm the center of the solar system. Would I eat them again? Probably. Will I trust the word "Centers" ever again? Absolutely not. Schlotzky's Cinnabon, I love you... but we need to talk.

Which I think brought about the subpar Rikishi that we initially fell in love with. The location of Rikishi has not changed but so much has that we hardly recognize it any more! Very little of Rikishi's table service is personal anymore. You are seated and asked to fill out an order form for your drinks, appetizers, and dinner. No one showed up to personally take an order but to pick up your form. We were pointed to the form a couple of times before we ever got someone to just bring drinks. The old Rikishi was not at all like this! Tonight, we ordered two reliable staples -- miso soup and squid salad. The best parts of dinner were then over as the rolls we ordered did not satisfy as usual. The spicy tuna roll tasted like a watered down version of their usual -- not fresh, not full flavored, something was just off. Watered down is the best we could guess. We were asked to scan a QR code to pay for dinner. At that point, in my mind, we had taken our own orders, received subpar sushi, and then proceeded to process our own check. We always tip graciously but, this time, we asked ourselves what we were tipping for -- service? Again, I hated to write this review. My only hope is that the owners care enough (and have the resources) to go back to their original formula of great service, fantastic sushi, and that wonderfully fun classic/yacht rock soundtrack. Rikishi was our favorite; hope it will be again someday!

Whole there was seating in a side room of the deli, we took our orders to go and spend some time with friends at 3rd Turn Brewing down the street.

The local eatery on the other side of Taylorsville Road the weekend before was a huge let down, but we'd heard nothing but good things about Boone's. The menu board isn't a board but actually more like a scroll, with all the menu items written on the 3 rolls of brown (for lack of a better word) packing paper on the wall. HIGH marks for creativity! (Hopefully the menu items don't change TOO often. It would be a headache to write all that stuff down regularly!) I opted for a spicy roast beef sandwich (exactly what I don't remember. I've slept since then). You can also get chips or one of a few types of home made salads (think macaroni salad, potato salad, etc) or cole slaw. I'm a HUGE fan of cole slaw, and in the case it looked delicious and peppery (like me). While they were making our sandwiches we chatted with the owners a bit and they seem like really nice, down-to-earth people. The told us how some of the menu options got their names and a little history of the business. It's really nice to to be able to chat with the owners. It wasn't long before our food was ready. My wife had, basically, a Rueben minus the sauerkraut (I hate that stuff) and a bag of chips. We both got a bottle of water. Our total was about $38. I've seen a number of reviewers comment on the cost of their meals. We had no complaints at all. They're serving Boar's Head meats, which a higher class/higher quality than most restaurants go near. You're also paying for locally, home made foods. I'm willing to bet that not a single food item came ready-made out of a jug or a box that came from Gordon's food. This is genuine food made with care and pride by the owners themselves. There's a small seating are behind the counter area and a much larger seating area outside, but the weather wasn't suited for such chicanery. We REALLY enjoyed our first visit to Boone's Deli. I think they've got a great product and I hope they stay around a long time.
