We moved to Katy 18 months ago and found there to be a lack of good BBQ restaurants. I have tried others in the area and they were either no good or were the kind of place you could not take the family to. We drove past what used to be Paddy's Smokehouse and wondered if it was ever going to be open. Well, Red River BBQ from League City opened up and it is amazing. Like another reviewer, I was convinced that the only good BBQ came from someone's backyward. Red River are an exception. Their BBQ is great, although I rarely get anything other than the Brisket. Evidently I seem to be the only person who orders loose cut as the manager brings it out personally as he recognises our order. Once they served it lean and I mentioned to the waitress that we ordered loose cut, well they went back and got more. 2 pounds for the price of 1. The service is always good there as is the food. One other benefit is that they have a huge sandbox in a covered area for the kids. Our kids have a genetic attraction to BBQ so it is not hard to decide where to go when we go out. We have been there at least 10 times since they opened and recommend it to everyone. I still think the best BBQ comes from the backyard, but this place comes a very close second. read more

Love it! Everything was good! We had brisket, ribs and chicken with potato salad, okra, onion rings and corn bread. The ribs may possibly be the best I've ever had. They were meaty, with excellent flavor and not dry at all. The brisket makes my top 5 list. It was smoky, lean and moist. The chicken was good but not excellent. Services was good and food wasn't. Our table had multiple dishes and the best food was the sides. Ribs: Ribs tasted like they we cooked at high temp in the oven, no smoke flavor or bark. Tough meat and they left the membrane on the back of the ribs. Not good. Sausage: Sausage was suppose to be hot and wasn't. It was ok but not good flavor. Ok, as a big man I know a thing or two about good eating or in this case good burgers. I've eaten some fantastic burgers all over this country and let me tell you this place beat them all hands down. Even the famous Hub Cap Grill here in Houston takes a back seat. First off it is huge! I didn't order anything special, their burgers are just that dang big. The flavor of the burger itself along with all the fixings and this one has me canceling my Weight Watchers membership and giving in to the fat side. We had the pleasures of going Red river barbecue and Grill this Saturday for all you can eat ribs or 15.99. My son thoroughly enjoyed it we also had The chicken fried steak meal with a salad along with the brisket barbecue baked potato. The food was amazing the atmosphere was very clean. The manager Carrie B was very delightful! Guillermo was our waiter and he did an amazing job getting the things that we needed for our meal. Wow! I have had a lot of BBQ in my time, but never this good. I watch the BBQ cooking shows on the weekend, and what I have been served at Red River has been comparable to the best available. Although my wife does not love the sauce served, I LOVE it. Served warm with heavy honey and brown sugar flavor. The brisket always has an impressive bark and smoke ring. The meal has impressively been superb, for the more than dozen times I have eaten there. Given a choice, I will not select any other restaurant. I eat here when in the area for some good BBQ. Today let me start by saying I was hungry, and stopped in for lunch. Normally I get in and get service immediately. However, today it must have been a large order or issues with catering. So I stood at the register and nothing, no one said hello, nothing! So I asked an employee behind the counter (cooking/preparing food) Caleb if they were taking orders (sarcastically remember I'm hungry). Caleb immediately approached and apologize for our slow reaction and took my order while the other employee was still dealing with an issue. Once I got my meal Caleb made sure everything was good and ask if I needed anything. If you want a GOOD Chicken Fried Steak, this is the place. They cut the meat, tenderize and cook right in the restaurant. The crust was crispy, the meat was tender and flavorful. My next best favorite at Red River BBQ is the pork ribs. They are juicy, tender, fall off the bone good. Smoke flavor is just right. Good without sauce, but the sauce just adds a little kick. The driver was very courteous & delivered fresh, hot food. I had the 2 meat plate & I opted for brisket, spicy sausage, pinto beans, & french fries. They also included a mouth-watering jalapeño cornbread muffin. I was impressed that silverware, extra napkins, catsup,BBQ sauce, pickles & onions were brought even without asking. If I could give a 2.5 stars, I would. For "chain" BBQ Red River isn't generally bad. But the quality of the food is very inconsistent (-1 Star). A friend picked up lunch to go the other day and you would have thought we had food from two different restaurants ~ seriously. Her potato was half raw and mine was dramatically overcooked to the point that I wondered if it was just reheated from the day prior. Meats need to be flavorful and consistently moist (-1 Star). She had sausage that, quite frankly, had less taste than the HEB sausage sitting in my fridge. I had brisket that was extremely dry, although packed full of smoke flavor. We agreed that the turkey was decent, but nothing to go back for. Pricing seems to have gone up since the last time we visited (-.5 stars). Service for take out wasn't particularly friendly OR quick. I wonder if this was just a bad afternoon or if this is another chain cutting costs to the detriment of the food customers receive. read more

Went with husband to try out this new place, which has been doomed for other businesses. I ordered the two meat combo with ribs and brisket, I asked about the green beans and they said they were steamed-they weren't they were greasy smothered style. The pinto beans side was ok, not flavorful but for the masses bland. The jalapeno cornbread was so dry and hard I could have knocked someone out with it. On the plus the brisket was tender and ok tasting, but I got only one decent piece the other 3 pieces were the fatty end pieces. The ribs were tender but I did not care for the rub. The sauce for the meat was alright as well. If you order just the meat it should be ok, but the sides were seriously lacking. I did order the sour dough roll just to try an extra bread but it was like a buttered hamburger bun. Finally, we saw some customers getting what appeared to be homemade bread rolls and when we asked about some the server informed us we would have to buy those. However, after looking over the menu my husband did not see them on the menu. Also it looks like there is a salad bar, but I am not sure where it was on the menu. In conclusion, I will not be back. I'm a Kansas City boy, so maybe I've just got different expectations for bbq. The brisket and pork spare ribs were both lackluster and the sides (mac 'n cheese, cole slaw, dirty rice) were plain. Probably the worst 20$ I have spent in my life. Couldn't even make a basic burger correctly. Asked for medium rare and it came out completely raw.
