Good bbq, servers are attentive, several televisions to look at and a playground outside for the kiddos. They have daily specials.

Since the remodeling, many things have changed. Gone are the nice little salad bar and its ice cold offerings. Also removed from the menu are the fried mushrooms , fresh baked cornbread muffins and steak offerings. While the remodeling did freshen up the interior, this once favored eatery has gotten aggressively expensive. For example the bbq rib special on Saturday's now cost almost $30 with a drink. I realize food costs are a major contributing factor, but it wasn't that long ago this same meal was just $15. Also they apparently don't like criticism posted on their Facebook page unless it's a positive review as my honest post was removed the same day I made the posting. Traveling from Cypress, and given the fact that many of the things I loved about this place have been removed I will no longer eat here. My family has been a long time customer but we won't be returning, sad as it is. read more

Been here several times. The service and food are great. My favorites are the Texas Hush Puppies stuffed with chopped brisket, pepper Jack and bbq sauce. Fried catfish, pork ribs and ribeyes are good. They have a variety of food to choose from. Their Sangria is always a must have for me. read more

My husband and I use to eat at the location in League City and loved it. We found out there is a location in Katy, which is a little closer to Conroe but still a drive. We like this place so much we made the drive and was not let down. It was all you can eat rib day (Saturday) and that's what we had. They are so juicy and tender. Our sides were beans and fried okras. They have a lot to choose from. You don't have to get barbecue. They have hamburgers and chicken fried steak. The appetizers are great too. The food here is not good. My lean brisket was dry and fatty. My okra was fried so hard I felt like I was chewing rocks. Mac and cheese tasted out of a box., very bland. Best ribs in town! You have to go. They're always very friendly when you go in. And it just reminds me of something you would find in Texas.

I have to upgrade my review now that we've just been this afternoon. The moist brisket is still excellent here but for a change of pace, I tried the 8 piece jumbo shrimp with onion rings and cole slaw. I was so impressed and really pleasantly surprised at how superb the quality of this product they brought to me that I regret I didn't take a picture as the onion rings were large, just from the fryer with a beautifully delicious seasoned crust (it is worth coming here just for the onion rings alone - seriously). The shrimp were actually jumbo sized, butterflied and dipped in a delicate seasoned batter and perfectly fried leaving the shrimp appropriately cooked yet still crunchy moist and delicious. So much so that I put them on par with any of the highest rated seafood places on the gulf coast. Yes, they were really that good! The cole slaw was decent and the hush puppies were flavorful also and crunchy good. Exactly what we were looking for last night. We needed good bbq and went with friends to Red River. I ordered a sliced brisket plate with sweet potato fries and green beans, the rest of the crew ordered from all over the menu and none of us were disappointed. The meat was moist and flavorful, fries sone perfectly, and the green beans didn't taste like they came from a can. The restaurant staff were all very kind and courteous. They have to the table several times to check on us and refill drinks. The restroom was clean and well stocked, the restaurant was clean as well. Outstanding experience! read more

Sometimes we have a craving for something yummy. Mine today was a brisket loaded spud - potato. I have had them at a few places around town but was in Katy today. My fiance visited this restaurant for the first time today. I ordered a baked potato with smoked chicken. He ordered ribs, fries, and Mac and cheese. My fiance enjoyed his meal for the most part. I on the other hand... the strips of chicken atop my baked chicken were akin to dehydrated pieces of chicken. The whole potato was very dry. Even adding more sour cream to my potato did not help to make it more edible, in fact I almost choked on a chicken bone that was mixed in my potato. My fiance' did tell one of the managers that I was unhappy with my meal and he refunded my money. Perhaps a baked potato was not the best choice at the restaurant. The Red River BBQ is a decent place for a large selection of food and pretty tasty BBQ. The menu was vast and the variety was ranging from seafood, salad and BBQ to many more items. The meats can be purchased by the pound or you could opt for the combo meals. I decided to go with the 2 meat combo and my co worker and I split the Brisket hush puppies. The Brisket hush puppies are worth coming back for and we're worth every penny we spent on them(9.99). They were served on a bed of very tasty French fries and came with four hush puppies that were very large. I ordered the Brisket and selected the moist option out of the three options given, moist, fatty or dry. My CO worker ordered the fatty. His Brisket came out with a nice bark and mine had no bark. The flavor in both were very distinct-fully different. That being said, both were also delicious. The second meat I chose was the spicy sausage, I am not sure if it's stuffed in house, but it's flavor was delightful, and not so spicy that you couldn't enjoy it. My co worker had the pulled pork that was melt in your mouth tender and was also wonderful. The combos come with two sides and I chose Baked beans and sweet potato fries. ( I tried to be slightly health conscious) lol. The baked beans were not that great and tasted like a can of Van Camps beans warmed up. This was the only food complaint I would of had but it was not really a complaint, because they were decent, just not the baked beans I was looking for in Texas. The Sweet potato fries were yummy and plentiful. My coworker had Mac and cheese and onion rings. His Mac and cheese was bland he said but his onion rings were pretty good. We both were stuffed and could not finish everything on our plates. The portion sizes were large, but then again we are in Texas! I would recommend this place for a visit. Well folks....in a strange turn of events my review went from 4 to 1! So my kid and I head in for some que. He get a loaded spud which was yum, and I got the spicy chicken sandwich which had too much breading and was not at all spicy and some what I'd call tasty onion rings! But that's not the kicker! So they have the "prisoner" wine on the menu. Anyone who knows wine knows that for the prisoner you're popping for a pricier wine than bbq house normal wine. The bottle cost 50$ on the menu. So me in all my wisdom, think...wow that's a great price! It's just shy of that cost at the store. Yes I am that smart! Funny thing when I tasted the wine that arrived uncorked with some poured into a cup and tasted it. I thought...hmmm not what I recall of the last bottle of the prisoner I had. So...I tell my kid (he's 18) that I thought it tasted off. He, of course, says Dad...it's prolly ok. So I say..."kid we're going home where I have an unopened bottle of the prisoner there and we're both doing a blind taste test". And we do. He blind tasted me first, and I picked the bottle we opened at the house as being much better. Now...the kid knows nothing about wine but when I had him do the blind test he pointed to the glass of wine from the bottle we opened at the house and says "That ones way better Dad". This is a true story. I'd normally not care except it's 50 bucks. Will I be back?? Prolly we some group stuff there...so yeah. Sorry red rivs...maybe take it off your menu! read more

I have no complaints about this place. You order at the walk up counter and they bring your order to you. You get your drinks at the drink station. Pepsi products and tea. Wait staff will also offer to refill your drink for you. I ordered the Two Meat Combo. It comes with 2 meat choices, 2 sides, and cornbread. See attached photo. My meat choices were brisket(moist) and spicy sausage. For sides I had fried okra and mashed potatoes. The brisket was very delicious and will get it again next time. You have a choice of ordering the brisket moist or lean. Get it moist for the great flavor. Okra was very crispy. Mashed potatoes was also very good. Gravy comes on the side. Decided to try the all you can eat ribs special. They were fall off the bone delicious. Hubby also got it...along with 3 refills. He had enough for us both lol My daughter got the chopped brisket sandwich. So big she had to cut it in half to handle it. And she only finished one half. My wife loves the chopped BBQ potatoes at RR. They are big and tasty. Good lunch specials during the week. RR also has daily specials for Ribeye Steaks, Shrimp, and Pork Ribs. My daughter has had the pulled pork sandwich, but didn't really care for it. The meat wasn't stringy, but had chunks of smoky meat. As other reviews noted, not much for spices. I ate her leftovers later...it was ok. I have had the Catfish PoBoy and it was delicious. I ate it open-faced and it hit the spot. Just a slight covering of breading on the fish chunks. I would definitely have one of these again. There appear to be several different fish and seafood options on the menu. We have tried the fried pickle chips. The order was huge and the chips were delicious. Just the right amount of breading. Recommended. Although the salad bar is tiny, side salads are only a few bucks and a great deal. No problems with service. You order and pay when entering, and the food is brought to your table. Self-service on drinks. On my last visit, I ordered a spud with two meats to go. I waited about 10 minutes on a busy Sunday night. Not bad. The spicy sausage was good, but I wasn't as impressed with the pork tenderloin. Not much seasoning on the tenderloin.
