Last week I tried their other location and left this review today. Well here we go again! We have come here A few times and generally the food is pretty good. Not great not bad just good. So on our last visit again the food was OK however the service was just absolutely terrible, but on this trip when I say the food was just OK it was literally just OK the brisket was extremely dry everybody everything seem to be a little overcooked and when I asked if I could give it back or return it they said I would have to wait for more to be cooked. Now I don't know if they were just having a bad day or if in general they just tend to over cook their food, not sure we'll try it again if we do I hope sure hope the food is better and makes up for the terrible service! Well I thought when I saw this location I would stop in because the food is generally pretty good. What a mistake! I should've just went to Arby's! This place is like the exact opposite of the other location food was extremely terrible but at least the service was OK. Left without finishing the meal and it ended and it has been determined that we should never come back, place seemed Dirty and the meat had a chemical taste to it. Don't know what they are doing here, but the food I received did not equal that of the rating this restaurant has received. They m7st be having their family fill out the reviews. Hands down, best BBQ we've had in a while. The turkey was juicy, brisket was delicious, sides were on point, Mac and cheese was TO DIE FOR, and the fried seafood was amazing. The staff was also extremely helpful and friendly, giving great food recommendations, and we had 3 different people (1 manager, 2 others) check on us during our meal, showing us that they truly do care. They also gave us a free sample of the Mac and cheese, because we were skeptical of how good it would be, and it was amazing! The free sample basically was the equivalent of a small side dish. 9.5/10, we will be returning to this establishment! read more

Ok so we tried this place out for the first time. My husband got the chopped brisket baked potato and I got the two meat plate - Sausage, ribs, potato salad and okra. It was just OK. The ribs were so dry and the potato was worse. You can see in the pic I added that it is extremely dry and it was also very bland. The food at best was ok. There are so many other places with a lot better BBQ so we will not be returning. I'm glad we tried it and wanted to like it but unfortunately we didn't. Oh well. read more

02/2020 Update: we came back. The pork loin isn't back but the BBQ is good. I do enjoy the salad bar. The people here are great. It's a start, hopefully this will be a more regular place on the list. I'm going from1 star to 3.5/4. This is the hardest review I've ever written. I used to love this place. They catered my wedding. We used to come regularly for lunch. I was here Super Bowl weekend and everything was perfect. We came in tonight for my birthday dinner. They have since taken the pork loin off the menu along with some other changes. For the record, the pork loin, salad bar, and Texas hush puppies were the only redeeming qualities of this place. But I liked it and the wife did too. They probably have the 3rd best beef brisket in Katy...of the 3 BBQ restaurants. Needless to say, I won't be back by my choice unless the loin makes it back on the menu. I ordered a 10 oz ribeye, medium rare, and got a 3/8" thick slab of meat that would have tasted better if they grinded it up as a burger!!

Since I've only been to Texas a handful of times, I know that Texas is known for its BBQ. The person who was showing us around recommended this place. I decided to go with a plate of spareribs and some smoked wings. The spareribs were no different than any other red both had but the wings were pretty darn good. The mixture of barbecue sauce and smoked flavor made the wings taste really good. The jalapeño cornbread was a nice touch, no spiciness but a good flavor. If I ever make it back I will definitely try another type of meat, with smoked wings. read more

Red River has some really great family meals, even after the pandemic has subsided. We ordered the chicken tender meal (only because our teen is not much of a meat eater) with green beans, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, sweet potato fries and rolls. I happened to be in the area and decided on stopping in for some local Bbq. The sandwich was served without the sauce, but a warm bottle of Bbq sauce was delivered at the same time. The mash potatoes had the skin in it, but was chopped into tiny bits. Well done as the texture and flavor was just right with enough creaminess. Sadly, they were lukewarm but not a deal breaker and I didn't ask to replace them. Though I could've eaten a bucket of them, the portion was good and the fact cream gravy came with it on the side without asking was nice. The onion rings were battered succinctly with amazing seasonings that you can taste and actually see. Not over done... just right. Portions were exactly right. The pulled pork sandwich had a lot of meat. No way did I feel cheated with portions. The meat was of good quality and tender. The bun was average but it went perfect with the meat and BBQ sauce. Sometimes a gourmet bun overwhelms the contents. They chose correctly I would recommend that they serve with better silverware. There are other BBQ places that actually give you a nice steak knife and fork. These were cheap dollar store forks and a butter knife. Lastly, on the meals with two sides, please provide a small cup for fountain drinks or at least let us opt for one drink and a side instead of two sides. read more

Cons -restrooms (women's) were not clean (Un-flushed toilets) -with only 2 patrons in the restaurant, the cashier did not acknowledge our arrival or offer to help until we asked how things work - I would have appreciated the establishment was more proactive greeting customers (a simple "hi" and/or "welcome" does the trick) Pros -great cornbread -great ribs (others in my party liked the ribs but rate the a 7 out of 10 - I thought they were for sure a 9) -lots of options for meats -lots of options for desserts -the guy delivering the meal was attentive for sure - really appreciated that -food delivered super fast Would I come back? Tough question - I would like a more friendly greeting, then sure I would come back. Minus half a star. So this is my first visit to Red River and it's nice place for some quick lunch BBQ. No waits here at 12:30 unlike some other locations. I ordered the "regular" sliced Brisket sandwich with fries. Price is reasonable at $10 The presentation of the food was very nice. But the brisket is a little on the dry side. And the elasticity of the brisket isn't there. But the smoke rings are very deep and adds a ton of flavor. They bring out some the house BBQ sauce to add to your order. Sadly the BBQ sauce is a little too sweet for me and really over powers the great flavors of the meat. The fries were not great. They were a bit over done and tasted as if they were fried twice. All in all this place is okay. Hence the 2.5 star (yelp really needs to add in half stars) review. I will come back to give this place a second review. Maybe I came in on an off hour. Never Again! The food is medeoacore at best. But that's not the main problem with Red River bbq. The problem is with how unprofessional the managers are and how they speak to the customers. I stopped in and ordered a pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides to go. It came to 9.64 without a drink. For the sides I selected cole slaw and onion rings. The sandwich was large and had plenty of pulled pork, however it didn't have much flavor and was room temperature. The cole slaw was at least cold, but very runny. The 4 small onion rings were room temp. Really?!? 4 small onion rings are a side. Not in my book! I only live a mile away, after discovering my dinner was cold, I called up to red river and asked to speak to the manager. The first person I spoke to said she was a manager and was extremely rude and condescending. I asked if anyone was over her and she transfers me to Pat. I explained to Pat that my food was cold and was told that "it got cold on the way home" because they don't send out cold food. I also asked if 4 onion rings were considered a side and was told yes. "that's just the way it is". I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to and she hung up. She did say she would replace the 4 cold onion rings with hot ones the next time i come in. Not going to happen. Burn me once shame on you, burn me twice shame on me. There is absolutely no excuse for the lack of professionalism show by the management. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place. I use to drive 50 miles one way to eat at their League City place just to eat really good BBQ. Unlike other BBQ places they have more, hamburgers, steaks, and fish&shrimp. Their onion rings so good it makes it hard to chose with all the other fresh side they offer. Walked in and was greeted warmly by cashier. This was where they only get a high mark. What can I say, they did take a groupon that my wife bought, that's positive. Ok, the food for my money was ok at best. It lacked that really good BBQ taste. I like meat falls off the bone rips, I felt I was a lion trying to rip meat off a gazelle. It was really rough! The best thing on my plate were the very thin green beans. I could write more but nothing much more to say other than lack of flavor! There are plenty people walking around to help, but no one specific helps a particular spot, they just seem to circle like sharks. As a former manager of a restaurant myself, I truly appreciate how she was able to answer any questions I had with the menu. I've passed by this joint plenty of times and being that it's right next to HEB on Mason rd, and I had some shopping to do, I stopped in to try the bbq. WOW! I was amazed at the flavors. I had the three meat platter, lean brisket (excellent smoke and color) ribs (just the right texture, fall off the bone) and jalapeño sausage (good spice). I also had some fresh jalapeño cheese bread to seal the deal! Everything was outstanding! Also, the place is very well kept, the staff is friendly and attentive and even the GM, Dustin, came by to check on me! I'll be back. Hell, this place may be my new favorite!! read more

We ordered food online for Father's Day yesterday and were very surprised by the taste of their food. When we picked up our food we noticed they gave us brisket rather than spicy sausage. The server felt bad for this mistake and rather than just apologize he added the spicy sausage for free. We were quite surprised at how good all the meats we ordered tasted. The turkey, chicken, spicy sausage and free brisket was very tasty. Although the potato salad was so-so we enjoyed the green beans, corn on the cob and onion rings.
