WOW! What a surprising find here in Hendersonville. I went into the Red Rooster with a few friends at lunch time on MLK day. Even though the cafe was crowded, we sat down right away and had our order taken. I ordered the breakfast burrito ($6) and a coffee ($2.50). When I finished eating the burrito I wanted to give a standing ovation to the kitchen crew. It was awesome! This is exactly the kind of place that I have been looking for, but have struggled to find. It feels like a diner, the food is great, and they have breakfast and lunch options. Don't expect a bunch of frills at the Red Rooster, just expect good food with friendly service. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on Saturday morning. There was a short wait because the dining area is pretty small. It's certainly a meat and three type place. Some specials were posted by the kitchen and we received a menu when we were seated. The menu had plenty of options so I ordered the steak biscuits which came with some home fries and a bowl of gravy. I also added a side of tomatoes. Nick ordered the Early Bird Special which had eggs, meat (he chose sausage), biscuits and gravy and hash browns. He substituted hash brown casserole (listed on the specials board) for the hash browns. Our food arrived quickly. I was a little disappointed to see that my steak was breaded, like country fried steak. But both pieces were identical, so I knew they had been frozen out of a bag. They tasted fine, I was just expecting real steak I guess. If you put enough gravy on anything it is going to taste good, though. The home fries were on the greasy/flimsy side, but tasted fine. The best part of our meals was Nick's hash brown casserole. It was just like Cracker Barrel's. We liked the atmosphere and the food, so we will go back. I'd love to try their lunch menu, too. There was no social distancing and all of the employees had a mask that didn't cover their noses. But, they were very quick to disinfect and clear off tables. Food and services were good and food very tasty and hot. The atmosphere is definitely down home cooking style.

Red Rooster is just a wonderful hole in the wall place! Everything on the menu is great! Lid with prices the way they are you get your monies worth here! The atmosphere is great too, everyone of those waitresses are excellent! Most have been there a long time as well If your after good food for a good price Red Rooster is the place to be. The food is a little above average. A place for something simple and easy to eat. Very minimum grease. I won't probably eat here again because of one thing I recognized when I was paying my bill. IT'S a FAKE supporting place of military and US service personnel. The place might have military pictures, awards and along with the service personnel recognition on the wall but decline giving military and US personnel discounts. Yes, it upsets me and no I don't think military or service people need special treatment because we signed up for it but I will complain about it when people/ businesses put on fake fronts to get business. The last few times I have ordered the food has been cold, things have been left out of the orders, and when the issues about the missing food was addressed all I received was an apology and a promise of a replacement if I want to come by in the future. No ma'am, I would really just like the food I ordered and paid for today. I do not recommend this place anymore. read more

Damn, the Kitchen omelette is very delicious and looks so good to see. I tried many restaurants and most of the restaurant's omeletts are either burnt too much or too greasy. This one is so good, gravy is good too. Must try restaurant everybody. And it's nearby Goodlettsville, so it's easy for us. read more

Been coming to the area for years and never knew this place existed. Go as soon as they open! Great food, local place and super friendly people. I got the catfish with white beans, fries and slaw. Also came with 2 hush puppies(wasn't expecting those). Fantastic! They have a sign in the window saying please bear with them, they're short staffed but I sure couldn't tell it. Got seated immediately and order was taken. The food came out faster than expected. Very friendly help too! I had the nest omelet, which was very tasty. Coffee was hot and refills offered timely. He had the cheese omelet, very good. We saw the fried pie card display, and since pie is my very favorite dessert, we decided to get some. They were out of apple, so I had peach and he had chocolate. They were divine. read more

Tony, Noel and I was out early morning this Saturday looking for a few yard sales trying to find bargains and treasures....and we got hungry. It was about 8am so we stopped at the Red Rooster Cafe.. We opened the door to this lovely large eatery. The floor space was very large with tables scattered in the middle and booths on both sides of the wall. We quickly took the first booth on our left as we inside the door. There was several waitresses milling around the area and one of them approached us immediately and took our drink orders. We didn't catch her name she never introduced herself...but she was very polite. Noel ordered a Sweet Iced Tea, myself a soda and Tony ordered ice water. We looked over the menu and the prices were very reasonable and there was a large selection. Tony ordered two pancakes with a side of two sausage patties and a glass of white milk. I went with the Early Bird special which was two eggs (over easy) 3 slices of bacon, 2 slices of buttered toast and side of gravy...I tasted the gravy but I didn't eat it. Noel went with the Country Fried Steak Weekend Special which had the Country Fried Steak, 2 eggs over easy, Hashbrown Casserole, with Gravy and a Biscuit. So much food!!! The food was very good.. we enjoyed it so much. The waitress checked on us several times offering refills. After we ate, she offered us to go refills and we accepted. I left her a 16% tip and our check with taxes was less than $25...very good food and very good prices. I will definitely eat here again!!! They are open for breakfast and lunch only and closed on Sunday, and closes daily at 2pm A real southern Meat and three..we are going to try them again for lunch one day. read more

We have been here multiple times over the years for breakfast. The food is always decent. The middling review is driven by a pet peeve. I ordered an omelet. It came with biscuits/gravy or toast/grits. I do not like either of those combos. I like hash browns. So I asked to substitute the HB for the the above. When I get the bill, I see that I have been charged $2.75 for the HB. Server said the owner did not allow any substitutions. I was not told this at time of order. So I pay more and receive less. On the menu, HB's are priced the same as the above combos, so should have been a neutral swap. This is the same thing that Cracker Barrel does. I refuse to go to CB because of this. Unfortunately, now the Red Rooster is off my list as well...too bad read more

Today, we went on an adventure and tried Red Rooster Cafe in Hendersonville, TN. Although the Cafe was small and crowded, the atmosphere was inviting and homey. After being seated from a 15 min wait, we were greeted promptly by our very friendly server and brought drinks quickly. Side note: the coffee is to die for! Rich and full bodied. The food (we had pancakes, grits ( like my momma used to make) kitchen omelet and hashbrown casserole) were so tasty! Everything was hot and fresh! The service was excellent and we grabbed cobbler to go! (Peach and blackberry). We highly recommend going and we will be back to review the burgers and club sandwiches which looked amazing! read more

Hygiene. I ordered takeout and walked into the business to the front counter. Of course the room was completely full, every table sat during this Covid 19 deal. That's why I ordered To go. Can you even seat full capacity yet ? It's still 50% capacity until May 22nd, but that's not even my complaint. The breakfast was actually pretty good ! Here's where my two star review comes In. As I was paying, I watched one of the older female cooks put her finger between her face mask and her face, pulling down her mask to grab food which looked like breakfast potatoes and fed her self in public using her "sanitary" glove. She pulled her mask back up and went right back to cooking people's food. That is so disgusting and unsanitary. I will not be back. I saw that one thing with my own eyes, you have to wonder what else goes on behind the scenes. Your club breakfast sandwich was yummy and even the breakfast burrito. Although, I had completely lost my appetite prior to eating my breakfast. Please instill better practices for your staff because the second someone gets sick at your business it will be the last time your open. All the best. read more

Red Rooster is a typical diner. I have no idea if it's part of a chain because it's a little quirky. The service was good, but even though it wasn't busy, I felt rushed. The waitress was polite but obviously wanting to get through the morning since she barely gave me time to check the menu before she was waiting for my order. Based on my observations of the other diners, it's possible I was the only newbie who didn't already know what I wanted. The menu choices for breakfast were both standard and quirky -- everything offered was for maximum efficiency and being easy on the kitchen. Omelets must be the menu item of choice for most, because unless I wanted an egg sandwich, or the red rooster or early bird special, the only choice of eggs was in some form of an omelet. Maybe it was an off-day and I had the menu given out to non-locals. Or maybe I just had to be reminded this is a diner, not a high-end restaurant. In any event, the omelet was okay. It was steaming hot and not overfilled with goodies. They did good with it. The grits were pretty bad though, way undercooked. It was like eating tiny grains of sand, sharp edges and all. The available sides are either biscuits and gravy or toast and grits. I'm guessing everyone orders the biscuits because the toast tasted stale. Overall, Red Rooster handled the main breakfast entree decently and it didn't cost a fortune. read more

This little gem is set up in short order style. The ladies and one gentlemen are magicians with food. Real scrambled eggs, no powdered eggs here! My son and I have eaten here quite a few times since we moved here approximately 9 to 10 months ago. It's a quaint little diner that apparently is frequented by many locals as you can tell by their conversations with the obvious owner. If you're looking for a fancy dining experience with fancy breakfast items then the Red Rooster is probably not what you're looking for. I'm sure you can find many high-end restaurants in Nashville with high-end breakfast items at high-end prices. The food at Red Rooster is good, hot and very reasonably priced. The wait staff is very friendly, professional and efficient. The restaurant always appears to be clean and it has a down-home feel. What else does one need? We will continue to return! read more

I visited the Red Rooster Cafe once a few years ago, but it has never been a spot I where I would consider regularly patronizing because the servers wore their long hair down. I had been in food service for years and the practice of wearing hair down while serving food is really quite gross and a turn off to me. Where I came from, this practice is also a health code violation. Fast forward two or three years...I thought I would give the place a try again so I phoned in a to-go order. Glad I didn't go there and expect to dine in as the servers are still wearing their hair down. Had I not already called the order in, I would have left. It appears the servers are more worried about looking cute than whether or not they have their hair the customer's food as they serve it. Granted, the cooks have their hair up, but the servers with their unconstrained hair were in and out of the kitchen. This leads me to wonder...if the management isn't concerned with hair in food, are they cutting corners on other food safety practices? To determine whether it was a violation or just a bad practice, I looked up whether a server has to wear their hair up in Tennessee. Tennessee law states wait staff don't have to have their hair up as long as the server has minimal contact with food.** However, serving food or walking in the cooking area with locks and manes freely flowing doesn't seem to be minimum contact with food. Lesson here...Doesn't matter how good the food is at a place if the place doesn't care about hygiene and food safety. **Tennessee Code Chapter 1200-23-01(c): 1. Except as provided in part 2. of this subparagraph, food employees shall wear hair restraints such as hats, hair coverings or nets, beard restraints, and clothing that covers body hair, that are designed and worn to effectively keep their hair from contacting exposed food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles. 2. This subparagraph does not apply to food employees such as counter staff who only serve beverages and wrapped or packaged foods, hostesses, and wait staff if they present a minimal risk of contaminating exposed food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles. read more

We went here for breakfast today and it will be out last visit! Waitress was friendly and nice. I ordered scrambled eggs, crispy bacon and grits. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of crispy bacon. We both ordered coffee...decaf for me and regular for him. Here's what we got: cold not even warm limp bacon, his coffee was Luke warm as was his biscuits and tasteless gravy. Eggs were good! No butter for the grits. My last sip of coffee had something slimy in it...spit it out as fast as I could! Almost $17. Before a tip....been there done that! Not going back! read more

In from Ohio for a wedding this weekend and had breakfast at the Red Rooster. First off, our server was awesome and the owner came by twice to thank us for coming in and to make sure everything was okay. It wasn't just okay, it was fabulous. The breakfast burrito was stuffed to the max and came out piping hot. (Try it with a little sour cream!) My daughter got a breakfast sandwich on a fresh homemade biscuit and we also tried the chocolate chip pancakes. Everything was perfect. For a good breakfast or lunch it has to be one of our favorites places to frequent. The hamburgers are really good and if you can eat the double burger you wont go away hungry. This review pains me to write. For 10 years our family and friends that come to visit us in Hendersonville have loved the Red Rooster. Food was always consistent, tasty and the staff was cute and friendly. The place was almost always crowded for breakfast or lunch. I am sorry to say that seems to have changed recently. We have been 4 times in the last 3 weeks including with two sets of friends visiting from Atlanta. These friends have always requested we go to The Rooster at least once while they are in town. Unfortunately, these same friends have now said they don't care to ever go back. The sausage gravy has been very thin the grits are watery and the eggs just don't have much flavor. The chopped steak for lunch has been taken off the menu and the overall quality of this restaurant has suffered. I do hate to see this and I can only hope The Rooster can make some corrections. read more
