Tried for the 1st time today. It was overcrowded service was just ok. The chicken fried steak was literally the worst thing I have ever tasted in my whole life. I almost puked after the 1st bite. Tasted like crap with instant cheap gravy. I cant believe they are serving crap when they can go buy better tasting chicken steaks at walmart. I normally wouldnt take off 4 stars for a bad tasting food item but this was soooo bad I am nearly puking by just remembering the nasty roadkill taste. read more

Went for breakfast today with my son from Orlando and my wife. She staff is very friendly and helpful but there is no mask regulations for either the staff or customers. Even the cooking staff had their mask covering their chins! Most of the customers also wore no mask. I understand that many people here in Nashville do not believe in Covid but I'm pretty sure that if I get it, I'm dead. I like the Rooster but won't go back until they get their Covid 19 procedures together! read more

I wish there were more places like this around town for breakfast. Red Rooster seems to aim for absolute basic plain-Jane diner status--and it hits the nail on the head for that. The prices are extremely reasonable, the food is just fine...very simple menu... the bacon was cooked to perfection. I ordered early bird special, eggs-over-medium... I don't know that I've had grits before and I was not hungry enough for, but I at least tasted them... they seemed fully-cooked to me (in contrast to other review, I'm sure they vary by day...)pretty bland but I am guessing that is nature of grits...they had jam, etc on table so I'm sure they could have been dolled-up a bit. Eggs were fine, cooked a little longer than I would have liked but I gave up on expecting breakfast joints to understand fine balance between over-easy (too often interpreted as a request for slimy undercooked whites) and over-medium (what IMHO should translate to cooked whites and glazed-over yolks as to preserve golden drippy yolk goodness on inside--but instead usually means you'll get hard yolks) but I digress... If you want a decent, homestyle breakfast at decent price, eat here. If you're wanting something fancier go to The Egg and I a couple miles up the road (be prepared to pay for difference and spend remainder of day digesting meal.) One more thing, my friend ordered biscuits and gravy instead of grits...she is REALLY into biscuits and gravy... she said gravy was so-so, mostly because she likes sausage variety as opposed to non-sausage variety as this was. read more

Service was friendly. I got the Red Rooster breakfast special. Seemed like a good value for $9. 3 eggs sunny side up- slightly over cooked. Breakfast potatoes- no flavor at all. Basically under cooked potato chips. Needed a little green peppers, onions bacon or sausage grease. I am guessing they just threw them in a deep fryer and nothing else. Bacon, overly chewy. Guessing it was cooked multiple days ago. Biscuit was okay but did not seem fresh baked. Gravy was decent. Nice place, maybe I just choose wrong meal or day. read more

Traveling through. Wanted a place that wasn't a chain restaurant. This was an awesome find. Tucked in a strip mall but easy to locate. Food was very good and service was awesome. Nothing fancy but a great place. Everything the table ordered was enjoyed all. Definitely come again. read more

Today my boyfriend and I drove around for at least 30 minutes looking for a breakfast joint around town. I'm happy we found the red rooster! It was packed when we got there, but that didn't interfere with the service at all! There was a nice booth seat still open, and the waitress was very attentive and kind. We seriously got the fastest breakfast we have EVER received! Must have not been but five minute after we ordered and the plates arrived hot! The bacon was just a tad to salty for my taste but the scrambled eggs, and arisen toast were wonderful! For two people it was around $15 and they were even really speedy checking out! I saw a gentleman with spiked hair walking around the floor the entire time, must had been the manager, and that is always a good thing to see! We will for sure return! Solid service and clean inside. The eggs and bacon were fine--as was everything else I ate. The only real issue I had was portion size. If you order biscuits or biscuits and gravy as a side, you expect at least 2 biscuits. We were here on 7/13/16 for breakfast. It started with the waitress taking the drink order from patrons who sat down 5 minutes after us. The food was only so-so. We went here because we support mom and pop places when we travel and it had received 4.5 out of 5. Appearance wasn't much but that's ok for us. We go for the food review and the ambiance. Very disappointed in the food. Our rating would be 1 at the most. Gravy was bland - too milky. Home fries were like thin sliced potato chips. They were hard - could not cut them with our fork. I like coming here for breakfast on the weekends. It's nothing fancy, but they have a good selection for breakfast and it's cheap. It's ALWAYS crowded, but we've never had to wait for a table. I've heard the manager talk to the busses and he's really motivational, so those tables are spotless within seconds of guests leaving. read more

The service was great, the manager/owner greeted me immediately and told me there would be a place for me to sit as soon as they could. The place was busy which is always a good sign! We were on a bachelor party weekend when on the way home we came across this place. We had a party of ten, and the service we received was phenomenal! The entire staff was very personable and accommodating. The food here is very comforting, and you get healthy portions at very reasonable pricing. DO NOT pass up the desserts! Great service and quick table turn around so you didn't have to wait long. Prices were great! My only criticism was the food was just ok. I got the breakfast burrito and tasted like the cheese the used was that processed sliced prepackaged cheese not fresh shredded cheese.
