Hate to write a bad review but I felt it's necessary. I have worn Red wing boots for 30+ years. I advise all of my guys to wear red workfare due to the quality and service normally given. Today was a shocker. Came in to buy my normal set of boots but decided to get them in black this time. Try them on and buy them. Instantly I noticed they don't feel the same as my previous boots. I then noticed the indies are different. Ask the guy helping me and he states those boots don't come with them. They are the same boot I have work for 30 years jsit black. So I ask him if I can get insoles. He says no problem and gets me some. I then ask him for new laces for my older boots I wore in. He hands me laces. We then go to the cash register and rings me up for $350. When I ask him about it he says the items I added. insoles that have always came with every pair of red wings I have ever bought I. Ow have to pay for them. Then he also charged me for the laces, which for as long as I have worn red wings They have always made sure to replace laces at no charge. I then ask again and not because I'm cheap or can't afford them, but I'm shocked that things have changed so drastically (keep in mind I buy a new pair of $300 boots every 18 months and wear red wing exclusively). So although there is not a better boot in my opinion and I have Worn them every day my entire working life. I doubt I will spend any more money In this store due to the nickel and dime mindset and the fact that a $300+ boot should come with all the items they always have. read more

I've been a customer here for coming up on 20 years. I've had mixed experiences, but the staff seems consistently aloof and unwilling to help when needed. The product itself, however, has always been good and we have family in the area so I always make it to this location when I need new boots. I had a pair of boots whose soles completely disintegrated on me, not from use but just substandard material, so I went in and they just shrugged and basically said; "sucks for you". I pressed the issue but they were completely unwilling to do anything at all to help. I could halfway understand it if that was the company policy and they were just toeing the company line, but when I contacted corporate customer service they were willing and able to help which tells me that the employees at this location just didn't want to be bothered with trying to help a customer. read more

My husband was looking for a specific boot and Hugo took the time to explain in depth and answer any questions regarding the quality of the boot and he was very knowledgeable in explaining the contents and the dynamics of the boot. First this is the first time I've been here I thought it was like a Payless shoes kind of thing but my dad told me they sell boots I was completely blown away by how nice it is. Was starting my new job on a Monday and wasn't sure what the uniform was so I texted my new manager and he said boots were a mandatory part of the uniform. It was 345pm on Sunday. I immediately looked up redwing. Their store in lake Forest closes at 4!! No way I could make it I live in Dana point, so I start looking for alternatives, nada. It's now 352. So I call the red wing store and Hugo answers. I explain the situation. He responds I can wait alittle after but not too long. Outstanding customer service from knowledgeable staff. Recently decided to invest in high quality, handmade leather boots for both utility and style purposes. After some online research I decided it best to go in person to try some on. The young gentleman working the shop was very friendly and welcoming. It was apparent that he'd spent many years working with high quality footwear. After some shopping around in the store I decided on a pair of the Iron Ranger boots. They look beautiful and fit like a dream. At first fit it's obvious that there will be a significant break-in period. Now this break-in period should be taken seriously. I did not. I spent about a week wearing the boots a few hours a day and on the second week of owning them I took them to West Texas to work in the field for up to 10 hours a day. This was a mistake because they were not totally broken in. They left a very painful spot on the top of my left foot that persisted with any pair of footwear. Upon return to California I brought the boots in to the shop in LF. I did not want to return them as I still loved the look, the fit and function. Rather, I sought out advise on how to remediate the pain I was having. The same young man that sold me the boots helped me and found a particular spot inside of the boot where a part of the leather was still stiff and somewhat folded over and was the source of my foot pain. He took the boot into the back and used some tooling to loosed the stiff fold and when he brought the boot back out and I tried it on the trouble spot was as if it had no longer been there. Additionally he guided me to leather boot cream to use on my now roughed up boots. It worked like a charm. Immediately restoring the fresh, we'll hydrated look of new boots while maintaining the beautiful copper color of the leather on the Iron Ranger. I hope to own these boots for years and years to come, and will gladly be going back to this store for follow on purchased and service. Five stars all around, and I'm happy to support a company that is hand-making high quality good like these Red Wing boots. read more

Bought my first pair of Red Wings today and couldn't be happier! Went in yesterday not really expecting to find anything (I wear size 14 and don't typically have luck finding anything). I found the model I liked but they only had them in black and I was pretty set on brown. They called another store and told me to come back the next day at 10:00am. Went in today and sure enough they had gotten them transferred already. I pried a little on how so fast and turns out I was working with the owner the day before. He met someone in Santa Ana and hand carried them for me! All of this is great but the icing on the cake is he did this all without any kind of commitment from me to buy. Have bought three pairs of $150 safety shoes here because of brand name and have been happy until now. Tried to exchange my latest pair because they hurt my feet / ankle. I thought Red Wing had a good return policy until I tried to get exchange but the manager went into several excuses of why they are hurting my feet even though I have bought two exact pairs of shoes before with no painful results. He told me to wear for another month and come back and he would see what he could do. Well I am not going to suffer for a month of pain but I doubt that I will go back to Red Wings after that experience, there are less expensive safety shoes out there for sure. read more

I have owned Red Wings work boots since the late 70's, the same model I bought originally I still wear today for work. If you are on your feet for hours like the business that I am in there is NO other foot ware that you should trust your feet or back to, none. They are not cheap, a pair will run you between $165-225.00. The boot that I wear I get at least 6 years out of a pair and go through about 2 pairs of souls. Red Wing resoles for around $80.00 a pair. I know guys that I work with that go through two or three pairs of cheap boots a year. I tell them that they should get a pair of 'Wings' and be done with it! They ask me how much they are and I tell them, they roll their eyes and say too much money! They tell me that they get their boots for $60.00 a pair. Well two pair a year is $120.00. I keep my for at least 5 years....well you do the math. I don't have foot problems, I don't have lower back problems and I swear that these boots are the most comfortable foot ware that I have ever owned, hands down. If you work on your feet for hours and hours, you are doing yourself a disservice, to your feet, back and body if you don't buy a pair of these. They will also mix sizes and widths if needed. Worth every penny spent. read more

Brought in a pair of work shoes with a sole that broke clean in half. At first, he took a look at the shoe and said it was obviously a defect, given the condition of the other shoe. After looking up the sale an finding the age of the shoes, no longer a defect. Its my fault because of how I wear the shoes! Very disappointing. These guys don't stand behind the shoes they sell. Despite their claims about the shoes being "built to last," they have no interest in taking care of repeat customers. Perhaps they should inform customers before buying a pair of $200 shoes that they should expect to be replacing them every 6 months. Built to last? Better hope you dont get a defective shoe. Moral of the story, don't shop here. You might expect with a title like "general manager," Chris Hoppie would have the ability to stand begin the product he sells.
