I used to shop in the Red Wing Store in Downers Grove, on Ogden. Each year for the last 5 years I have religiously purchasing a new pair of boots. Until last year, 2016, when they neglected to order the boots I requested, the coupon expired and I lost out on $40. That was the fatal error that brought me to the Addison store. What a nice place! The sales people aren't pushy or "too busy", but just plain friendly. I told the salesperson about my situation at the DG store and he said, "I feel badly they didn't take care of you. I'll take $20 off you purchase." I know it's not $40, but I didn't ask for any compensation. He offered. I'm sold! The DG store is only 2 miles from my house, but I'll gladly make the drive to Addison to work with sales people who understand that I can take my business elsewhere.

It was my first time there, and I was with my younger sister who needed some steel toe shoes for her job.

They lasted a crazy long time given their cost, but after four years they had weird toe prints and scuff marks and ... I needed new sandals. Basic, heeled, strappy black sandals to wear to work and suchlike. Enter: the mall. I started with JC Penney. They had some cute stuff, but most of it was the wrong size or just didn't fit well. Onward. I wandered through a few other stores. Nothing grabbed me. Sorry, Payless, sorry, Naturalizer. Famous Footwear. Hmm. Several options. The staff was friendly and low-pressure as I stood in the middle of the aisle shoving shoes on my feet and walking around. Finally, I hit the jackpot: right size, right color, easy to buckle, fairly comfortable, no obvious blister-inducing rubbing... And, on sale. Score. (Actually, I think this place is always having a sale, but hey, it makes you feel better, right?) Plus I got a coupon good for later in June ... hey, my husband's gonna need new shoes by then! I'm sure I'll continue to shoe-shop-around, but Famous Footwear is definitely landing on the list of places to stop.

Everything is sold "as-is" and all sales are final. A lot of the items are returns so you should check for stains, holes or broken zippers before checking out. Their stuff might be from Nordstrom, but the staff's rudeness is way beyond. After an hour of searching for the vow renewal dress, I finally found "the one", but the worst part was there was no tag. One of their policies is no tag, no sale, but I thought it should be a simple fix. The fitting room staff said the process of getting a new tag could take a day or two, which might not be the case at other retailers. Normally, it would take just a minute or two, even at stores like Savers or Goodwill. She also refused to call the manager to meet me, saying there was no point because the manager would go through the same process anyway. She suggested I wander around to find him. I decided to walk away toward the front store and stopped to ask two young staff working in the pants and shoes sections to call the manager for me. They said they couldn't find the manager nearby, so they called another staff member to call him. Finally, I was able to speak with Alex, the manager. I was on the verge of tears because I was upset and stressed. This store is like a thrift store--if you don't get the item that day, you might not find it again because they don't have the same inventory as a retail store. As I mentioned, it took me over an hour to find this dress. I explained the situation to Alex, including how much time I spent, the importance of finally finding the one dress that you and your spouse love, the stress of potentially losing it and not being able to find it again if I had to wait a day to come back--especially since they have no hold policy. I was crying while talking to him, and he said he would see what he could do and walked to the back office. While waiting for the manager, I overheard giggling and mocking sounds from the two young staff I had asked for help earlier. When I turned around, they stopped but still giggled in my direction. I caught one of them pretending to cry. I approached them and took this as a teaching/ learning opportunity. I asked if they were making fun of me, and they denied it. Then I told them I saw that they mocked me crying. One girl said she asked her friend if I was crying, and her friend said yes--that's all. I told them that wasn't right because I had seen it happen quickly enough. As a teacher, I explained that that's not very nice, and they shouldn't do that to anyone because it's unkind and mean. I also told them that I believe the world should be about treating people with respect and kindness, which is one of the most important things these days. I spoke to them respectfully and calmly, without causing a scene, since they already looked embarrassed. The other staff members stepped in and asked what happened, so I explained. They moved the two young staff to different sections. However, none of them apologized. Alex returned and was able to put the tag on without any issues. He then quickly walked away, so I didn't get a chance to express my concerns. But at that moment, I was just so happy to have my dress that I chose to walk away from the stressful situation instead of letting it ruin my day. Lastly, the cashiers--maybe they're having a bad day--none of them smiled or greeted me. When I asked questions, they just brushed me off. I've never written such a long review before, but I hope the company or someone higher up sees this so they can improve the store environment and customer experience. In a world where you can be anything, be kind! That's all. P.S. Would I go back again? Maybe, because there are so many good finds with great value there. But I might have to wait a while because of what I just experienced.

Let me say that I had Skechers shoes for many years without any negative issues. On January 7, 2026 I bought 2 pairs of Slip Ins at a Skecher Outlet in Downers Grove, IL. Because of the winter weather and snow, I didn't wear either of them for a couple weeks. So, I am guessing that I wore only 1 pair maybe 6 times, and mostly indoors. I noticed that on the front of one shoe the black color on the trim was peeling off. So, today, February 18, 2026, I brought them to the same location I bought them thinking they would honor a replacement because it was only 6 weeks since they were purchased. I was told "sorry, but that is a case of normal wear". Normal wear for several weeks, mostly indoors? My years old Skecher shoes never peeled once and are still going strong after years of wear. So, obviously the more popular a company gets, the less quality goes in and the price goes up. Beware of buying from an Outlet store, even if they tell you that there is no difference in the quality between a main store and an Outlet store. Update on 3-3-2026 - So, this is how Skechers investigates any issues you may have with your shoe purchase. As opposed to having a store manager investigate the situation, I was told to send both shoes to their investigation department in California. Of course the packaging and shipping fees are on the customer. Don't forget the tracking number they will need. Once they receive the shoes, one of two things will happen. If after the investigation they believe there is an issue with their workmanship, they will send a replacement. If the style is no longer available, you can pick one of equal value or they will select one for you. If they believe that it is normal wear (in my case after only 6 weeks and only several times wearing them), they will NOT return the shoes. So, you are not only out of a pair of shoes, you are out over $80.00 which is what was paid for the shoes. What a racket and I wonder how many people will take the chance, especially when the store manager already told me it is normal wear. Because of the ridiculous investigation method, I went from 2 stars down to 1 ... but it should be none.

Unfortunately, Skechers no longer carries the shoe my companion has been wearing for years, which…read morewas particular my comfortable for them. After a couple of tries ordering new shoes online without success, it seemed best to go in person to return the second pair of shoes and try on shoes at the store in hopes of getting new shoes that would work without all the back-and-forth. The employees were friendly. Luckily, there weren't many other people in the store at the time we were there. One employee was especially helpful; I was here with someone with mobility issues and the employee was able to identify some types of shoes that might work well, in particular pointing out that some of the shoes we had been looking at might not be comfortable to wear or get into because of the design of the particular shoe and instead pulling some better options. It worked out because we left the store with three pairs of shoes, and he's already remarked on how much more comfortable they are and it's easier than he'd expected to get into the shoes. Very much appreciated the customer service here and the attention we were given.
