My son and I were visiting from Boston and stopped in before taking in a Hornets game. Location was great - a very short walk from the arena. The atmosphere is classic diner. We were welcomed by friendly staff, music is good (and not too loud). Everything is clean and comfortable. The menu offers standard comfort food. We ordered a burger and a steak sandwich and both came with fries. The food was GREAT. Classic diner but kicked up a notch. Fresh bread, crisp veggies, and cooked perfectly. And as good as our sandwiches were, the waffle fries stole the show. We were both full before we finished everything but we couldn't stop until the fries were gone. Prices are more than reasonable (especially considering the location). Just a great experience overall. One last note. I'm always super nice to staff and a solid to great tipper even when things aren't great. But I'm silently annoyed whenever my party receives too little or too much attention. The Redeye staff hit the sweet spot perfectly from start to finish. Friendly but not intrusive. Great awareness of where we were in our meal and super fast to respond when we needed something. This diner was a hidden gem! The food here is amazing. I enjoyed breakfast here twice ice so I really like the fact that I've gotten a good sense on it's on their consistency when it comes to food. One while I was there I had the egg white omelet with added turkey sausage patties while my friend ordered the shrimp and grits. My omelet came out perfectly glee done. I don't prefer to have my omelet on the running side and they did a good job making sure it was cooked to perfection. The hash Browns were crispy and not undercooked. The shrimp and grits were super creamy plus they didn't skip out on the shrimp. The service can get slow and ball down due to the limited amount of staff however don't take that as a sign of of bad food. This place was this place was excellent. read more

The waitress we had on our recent visit was excellent. Service has been great all 3 visits. The food seems a little bit heartless though. It isn't terrible but it isn't really any better than Waffle House but is twice the price. I don't care about the atmosphere and that's not why I'm there. My wife and I go because it's familiar and kind of a tradition when we are In Charlotte for concerts. The surrounding area is depressing as hell though. Sucks to see a once thriving little hub so dead now. I hope the red eye sticks around and is successful but they might need to pick it up a bit. read more

I was very hungry when I stopped by Redeye Diner today and was immediately seated. I perused the menu and quickly determined that I was in the mood for biscuits and gravy with turkey bacon. It took 4-5 minutes before I was greeted by my server, but once he took my order, my food came out quickly. I don't think I've eaten a meal that fast in my time on earth because the biscuits and gravy were phenomenal. The gravy had a really good texture, the sausage was well-cooked, and the biscuits were fluffy and warm. The turkey bacon wasn't as well-done as I like, but their flavor was really good. I wasn't about to stop eating to request more time on the bacon because I was so hungry and there was a food to eat in front of me! My server noticed when I finished and presented my check so I didn't have to wait. The next time I'm in Charlotte, I'll be back at the Redeye Diner for yet another delicious experience! read more

The fries were good and the greens were good. Pro on the chicken, the crunch was spot on. We were looking for something fast but had a selection. Why not a diner? We got the handy Yelp app, and it directed us to the Redey Diner. Kinda hard to see as it is behind buildings on the street in what I would call a walkway with other places of establishment. It is worth the find and easy walk to if you are in the city. I wanted to try so much as the selection was fantastic. We tried the Chicken and Waffles. Boy, if I knew how good the chicken was, I would have ordered the chicken dinner! :) The waffle is a good portion sprinkled with powdered sugar with syrup on the side. It was crisp and fluffy and good. But the star was the chicken. I had it with a side of ranch to dip, and I was set. It was very good as it had a nice season to it. Good-sized portions as well. Great service! I wanted a piece of their pie as it looked so good, but my stomach was not going to do well if I did ;) People bag on Diners, but if this was back where I live in California, it would put Dennys out of business. Ordered an appetizer and our food. Food came out yet no appetizer. Had to get napkins and ketchup from the counter because the table was so incredibly dirty, I didn't want to risk getting myself dirty while reaching. There was ketchup and creamer all over that side of the table. The ketchup tasted as if it was about to turn. We mentioned it and were told they refill daily. At the end of the meal, the appetizer came. At that point I was ready to go. The food tasted ok, just don't eat the ketchup that's about to go rancid. We ordered the chicken tenders meals with fries and with onion rings as well as the firecracker shrimp. Waitress told us the sauce was a mix of mayo and ketchup, it was not. Now to get to the good stuff; I had grits, eggs, liver mush with a biscuit. My best friend had the breakfast special, eggs, bacon, fruit bowl and waffle. The grits were PERFECT, creamy, just the right seasoning. My bestie said her food was cooked to order, and she's picky, so that is big. We are both retired from the army and have traveled extensively. We've eaten all over the world. I came here for a late meal after getting off work. I was in town for a couple days. It was one of the few places still open so I tried it out. I got there a little before 10pm which must be a shift change because there were at least twice as many staff there than they needed for the amount of business that was going on. They sat me at the counter, which normally would have been fine with me but for some reason this is where the plethora of staff decided they needed to congregate. I spent my 30 minutes literally surrounded by staff who were just hanging out. It was kind of uncomfortable. So my plan for a quick and solitary late dinner didn't pan out. For some reason they had hip hop music playing on the speakers which didn't really fit with the aesthetic of the place. So that was a little confusing as well. If you do go over there around 10pm ask them to sit you in a booth far away from the counter. The food was fine. I ordered the meat lovers omelet with hash browns and wheat toast. The omelet was good. The hash browns were a little underwhelming. I think they had been re-hydrated before cooking and they overshot on the hydration. So they were kind of soggy. The woman who was assigned to wait on me did a fine job. To her credit, she didn't spend much time hanging out with the crowd. She seemed content to focus on her two or three customers. If anyone from the diner is reading this, might I suggest holding your staff meetings, or whatever was going on, somewhere else besides the counter where you're sitting customers? read more

I was immediately greeted upon walking in and ended up going to the bar to order takeout. A young man (with a beautiful manicure) took my order and was super patient with my indecisiveness in trying to figure out what I wanted to order. I ordered a BLT with hash browns on the side - food was A-MA-ZING and cheap!!! This dish was no more then maybe $8.25 which is what I would expect to pay for this order. We were visiting Charlotte for the first time and dined at your restaurant 3 times during our stay. The reason we kept coming back is the incredible staff. We wanted to extend our gratitude to the entire staff at the Red Eye Diner, but especially the Manager working on Oct 22 and 23 in the morning around 10am (we apologize for not catching her name) as well as Natasha and April. What?! I love diners and this might go to my new top 1 diners of all times!!! We went there around 2pm and it was fully packed in there and some people were waiting outside. We got our names in and we're 11th of the line. But we only waited about 10 minutes to get our seats. And before we got in, someone who just finished their lunch said to another waiting customer that "it's worth the wait, worth it!" Lol. I mean, with all the people inside, and the nice looking photos online, it's definitely not a lie. Our server was quick and very nice. Talkative and attentive. He got us our drinks quickly even though they were short staffed. We got sweet tea and coffee, typical not much to talk about. But I do appreciate that they have decaf as an option! Ordered food quick and had a good little chat with him about hiking and gears. Food was...omg heavenly. The server recommended shrimps and grits and chicken waffles, and we got his recommendation. He did not lie about how creamy and flavorful the grits is!!! That shrimps and grits is the best I've ever had. Chicken and waffles is good too but because we had the shrimps and grits first, it falls under the shadow of it. That sauce on top of the grits is a little spicy, curry like but creamy, that spicy kick really helped to make the creamy, rich grits to taste even better. They matched it really well. Shrimps are not dry and good in size. Definitely not a cheap eats, and that shrimps and grits being only $13?! Omg we are going back for it soon. The fried chicken is on a salty and very crunchy side, which makes sense if you pour syrups on it, but I wish it's less hard crunchy and more crisp. Waffle is sooo soft and fluffy! It doesn't make you feel too filling and I love it! We also ordered a one egg wit harsh brown, biscuit, and patty. That's a bit typical but the harsh brown is still well done. Biscuit is fluffy and have a great buttery crunch both sides. Overall good but again... Please order that shrimps and grits y'all that's the star there!!! We had a great time. Especially we paid double the price and waited a long time for a table last night, this fast, friendly, great portion diner experience makes out Sunday brunch a great memory. We already planned to come back tonight or tomorrow morning for desserts or breakfast! They open 24 hours! Why not?! Recommended for sure!
