Classic friendly diner, breakfast lunch and dinner. Our experience was breakfast on a busy Saturday morning and was very pleased with how quick we were able to be seated and served. I got the biscuits and gravy, my dad got the French toast. I'm a big gravy buff and their sausage gravy was pretty great. Only giving 4 stars because it was good, but not outstanding. Not at all for us. Despite my desire to attend, I can now see that it was a letdown. Although we were promptly seated, our waitress didn't come over to say hello until after we had been there for approximately 10 minutes. I am aware of their staffing issues, but wow. We then placed our order right away because I didn't want to take a chance on it taking longer to receive an order after drinks. Observed the other employee who appeared to be shadowing her. whose arms were crossed, That shows a lack of manners. Then our meal was brought to us. I made a few observations as we were eating. The Belgian waffle was improperly cooked. The interior remained similar to the mixture. My husband's BLT, which had jalapenos on it as he had requested, was so overpowered by them that he didn't even finish it. One of the best 8 oz. steaks that I have had ANYWHERE! ! 2) The chicken noodle soup was great and filled with good shredded chicken, noodles and other good stuff. Although somewhat flat- at least I could season to taste and was not pre-salted. # THE BAD # 1) It took FOREVER for our food to be prepared- even @ 4:00 in the afternoon on a Wednesday with only a handful of other patrons. 2) Once it was delivered, the turkey & Swiss sandwich was EVENTUALLY delivered with everything else that was ordered, but did not have any Swiss cheese. I went online to join the waitlist and arrived when I was told my table was ready. When I arrived, the hostess was rambling about them only have 1 set of silverware left and then stated they were placing seating on hold. I asked what the wait would be since they were now not seating and she said she didn't know. So they stopped seating people and couldn't even give an estimated wait time so people were literally just standing around clueless. Management didn't make an announcement or anything. We were in Charlotte on business as content creators (ghostwriting + photography) + we asked our cashier at Whole Foods the best brunch spot in Charlotte. He said hands down, has to be Redeye Diner. So, the next morning we made our way around 11am to the diner. We were happy there was no line since we couldn't access the online waitlist -- but it was definitely busy. Our cashier from the previous night said you have to order the shrimp + grits (I've never been a grits fan, but ...) First: the whole restaurant is a vibe. Jukebox, the wall art is amazing, so fun + the service was absolutely amazing and friendly. We ordered the infamous shrimp + grits, Cheddar Scrambled Eggs, French Toast and the classic Redeye breakfasts. No one was disappointed! (Only the coffee was something I could have skipped. My team members enjoyed their milkshakes hands down (especially when our server Danie told us it was her first ones!) This diner was a hidden gem! The food here is amazing. I enjoyed breakfast here twice ice so I really like the fact that I've gotten a good sense on it's on their consistency when it comes to food. One while I was there I had the egg white omelet with added turkey sausage patties while my friend ordered the shrimp and grits. My omelet came out perfectly glee done. I don't prefer to have my omelet on the running side and they did a good job making sure it was cooked to perfection. The hash Browns were crispy and not undercooked. The shrimp and grits were super creamy plus they didn't skip out on the shrimp. The waitress we had on our recent visit was excellent. Service has been great all 3 visits. The food seems a little bit heartless though. It isn't terrible but it isn't really any better than Waffle House but is twice the price. I don't care about the atmosphere and that's not why I'm there. My wife and I go because it's familiar and kind of a tradition when we are In Charlotte for concerts. The surrounding area is depressing as hell though. I was very hungry when I stopped by Redeye Diner today and was immediately seated. I perused the menu and quickly determined that I was in the mood for biscuits and gravy with turkey bacon. It took 4-5 minutes before I was greeted by my server, but once he took my order, my food came out quickly. I don't think I've eaten a meal that fast in my time on earth because the biscuits and gravy were phenomenal. The gravy had a really good texture, the sausage was well-cooked, and the biscuits were fluffy and warm. The turkey bacon wasn't as well-done as I like, but their flavor was really good. I wasn't about to stop eating to request more time on the bacon because I was so hungry and there was a food to eat in front of me! My server noticed when I finished and presented my check so I didn't have to wait. The next time I'm in Charlotte, I'll be back at the Redeye Diner for yet another delicious experience! read more

The fries were good and the greens were good. Pro on the chicken, the crunch was spot on. My son and I were visiting from Boston and stopped in before taking in a Hornets game. Location was great - a very short walk from the arena. The atmosphere is classic diner. We were welcomed by friendly staff, music is good (and not too loud). Everything is clean and comfortable. The menu offers standard comfort food. We ordered a burger and a steak sandwich and both came with fries. The food was GREAT. Classic diner but kicked up a notch. Fresh bread, crisp veggies, and cooked perfectly. And as good as our sandwiches were, the waffle fries stole the show. We were both full before we finished everything but we couldn't stop until the fries were gone. Prices are more than reasonable (especially considering the location). Just a great experience overall. One last note. I'm always super nice to staff and a solid to great tipper even when things aren't great. But I'm silently annoyed whenever my party receives too little or too much attention. The Redeye staff hit the sweet spot perfectly from start to finish. Friendly but not intrusive. Great awareness of where we were in our meal and super fast to respond when we needed something. We were looking for something fast but had a selection. Why not a diner? We got the handy Yelp app, and it directed us to the Redey Diner. Kinda hard to see as it is behind buildings on the street in what I would call a walkway with other places of establishment. It is worth the find and easy walk to if you are in the city. I wanted to try so much as the selection was fantastic. We tried the Chicken and Waffles. Boy, if I knew how good the chicken was, I would have ordered the chicken dinner! :) The waffle is a good portion sprinkled with powdered sugar with syrup on the side. It was crisp and fluffy and good. But the star was the chicken. I had it with a side of ranch to dip, and I was set. It was very good as it had a nice season to it. Good-sized portions as well. Great service! I wanted a piece of their pie as it looked so good, but my stomach was not going to do well if I did ;) People bag on Diners, but if this was back where I live in California, it would put Dennys out of business. I'm from the south and this place is beyond southern hospitality. I went here 4 times within 24 hours. The food is great with such a wide variety. Don't even hesitate to try the dessert.
