Was on vacation here and read the reviews about this place and decided my friend and I should check it out. The service was great the man helping us was very upbeat and pleasant. This is a pretty solid place. You can't go wrong with donuts for 0.70 cents or $1 (depending on which one you get). We got the cakey donuts and they all tasted good. On Monday/Tuesday, you can get 1 dozen for $5. They day we went, it was towards evening time so they guy said we oculd get 1 dozen for $6. I was tempted to do it, but then realized I might not be able to fit into the plane seat back home the next morning. read more

Good donuts, good prices. The only negative is they run out of their top sellers too soon. The rectangular donuts with chocolate on top, and custard filling in the middle, are fantastic. They run out of those most mornings by 10:00. They should make more of them. read more

I I take my kids here on Sunday's when we do "Church in the car." A nice treat for them. Donuts always taste fresh and staff is friendly - albeit a little rushed in the morning when they are busy. Good selection - my daughters get two of their bigger donuts and can't finish the second one. Coffee is fine - not Starbucks level quality but okay if you stay in and dine. read more

Best donuts in the Monterey Bay area, bar none. The glazed are perfect. The best glazed donut I've ever had (and I've tried a lot of em all over the US because I am an addict and cannot go without). What's their glazed donut like? Moist and chewy and light, yet not airy. Not at all tough, never dry. Always sweet and melt in your mouth. Substantive enough to fill you up but not a rock in your tummy. Not "empty air" like Krispy Kreme (the most overrated donut). You never taste the oil; it's fresh as can be. All you taste is sugary, donut-y goodness. This cafe is a real throwback. I love it. And the one in Seaside. I don't hang out in either very often, usually just get donuts to go, but when I do hang out, I am always wishing I did it more. A terrific slice of local folks go there. Super friendly staff. Lots of regulars who have their donut and coffee every day like they have been for the past 50 years. The place hasn't changed since I've been old enough to remember it, and that's nearly 40 years. I like that. I hope it never changes. The lady who is often behind the counter is one of my favorite people in Monterey, so friendly and good-humored. I'm reviewing the one on Fremont as I know there is one downtown now too. I used to come in here all the time about 12 years ago, but not so much anymore because I found a new donut shop that I like better. The old school diner thing is cool. The clown decor is NOT. The donuts here are a bit heavy as compared to some other places, but delicious none the less. The service here is always friendly and good. Nothing to jump up and down about, but some decent donuts. read more

I don't usually like donuts, but I make an exception for the fabulous creations at Red's. Their apple fritter is perfection - shatteringly crisp outside, just right inside, flavorful, and of course, sweet. They make a few dozen flavors of cake donuts (nothing too special) and large raised donuts - try the large coconut - not available every day ! This Seaside location also sells sandwiches, but I don't know anyone who goes to Red's to eat lunch. Parking in front is a little iffy at times, much easier to pull around the side. There are plenty of tables inside, and you can comfortably stay as long as you want, eating donuts and drinking coffee. read more

Great donuts. We had cinnamon rolls and maple bars this morning. Both were fresh and absolutely delicious.

The environment was very inviting. Has that home away from home kind of feel. The donuts were... surprising. They looked like they were going to be heavy and doughy, but they were soft and fluffy. Overall, pleasantly surprised. read more

This place is the best! Forget about your Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts because this place far surpasses even the best donut you've had from there. Growing up, I remember sitting at the counter watching all the old guys play dice and drink coffee while I devoured the world's largest, most delicious, hot, buttery, cinnamon roll. Red's holds the record for one of my top five most delectable memories. My uncle has a tradition of picking up donuts from Red's every weekend for our household, and in my opinion, that beats most other traditions (short of Christmas). You simply cannot compare to anywhere else out there. I will continue to visit Red's as long as I continue visiting the Monterey Peninsula. read more

My favorite donut place in town. Really tasty donuts. They lose a star for service, it just doesn't give that "happy-go-lucky, good morning at the jolly ol' donut shop" vibe. In all honesty, Red's Donuts are my favorite doughnuts in the whole-wide-world. This Monterey, CA, Mom&Pop chain produces the best deep-fat-fried balls of dough! The best item is their cinnamon roll doughnut (pictured to the left) - it is sweet, gooey and cinnamoney delicious. I have eaten at this establishment since I was a wee tot. My Grandpa used to play "hookie" and treat me to a morning of Red's with milk. What little girl wouldn't love a morning of sweetness with her "Grampy"?!?! Go to Red's when you are in the Monterey area - for breakfast or dessert, with your grandpa or without - these doughnuts will change your life! read more

Real Good Doughnut Shop. The doughnuts are fresh. They use a thick glaze and a thick frosting to smoother their doughnuts. The service was excellent, I was in and out in no time, and it was busy in there. They have a great selection. This place has real good doughnuts. When you want a good doughnut, go here.
