After trying to eat here on three different occasions, finally made it. No vacation or holiday and we were excited, we heard great things about Red's. I ordered a pancake, I heard they were plate sized and that was no lie, more like platter sized. Only two pads of butter among the margarine, which we don't eat and hubby had a biscuit, so we had to share. The butter was sucked up immediately and I resorted to putting syrup on each bite after it was on my fork. The pancake was dry and syrup didn't help. I was mortified as I watched the full bottle go down. Stopped eating, way too much syrup to moisten it. Hubby got two eggs, two sausage, potatoes and a biscuit along with coffee. Eggs and potatoes were perfectly cooked, although the potatoes could have been seasoned a little heavier. Sausage was overcooked and biscuit was dry. Being raised on biscuits, they are one of his favs, he left half on his plate. Coffee cup was never refilled, fortunately he saved a swallow for the end of the meal. When checking out, the cashier asked how our meals were. As he told her, she said he should have sent something back. The waitress never checked on us until we were done eating and she dropped off the check and nonchalantly asked "everything ok". She didn't wait for a response. Hubby was told she is one of the best. Will we go back again? Nope. Priced a little higher than we usually expect breakfast to be and not quite as good as my cooking. read more

Second time there. First was with a large crowd. First time food came out quick and was good. Not today. Small simple breakfast for 2 took over 20 minutes. Wife had egg, bacon, toast. Egg was ordered over medium. It was mostly raw. Toast was burnt. I ordered corn beef hash. It came burnt and hard! Toast was burnt. Coffee and soda was $6. !. Nope not good. $18 for crappy breakfast. This was the best restaurant meal I've had in a long time. I ordered today's fresh fish dinner, which was flounder. I had it grilled. The seasoning was spot on, and it was perfectly cooked. I had the chef's vegetables, which was a corn and carrot mixture, which sounded like a strange mixture but was extremely tasty. The potatoes were great. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. This was my first time here, and I was completely thrilled with the overall experience. Before I went there, I was told to be prepared for a wait close to one hour. Turns out when I put my name in, they told me 20 minutes. That 20 minute wait wasn't even 10 minutes. Once seated, the server came over promptly to take my drink order. By the time I got to Red's, I had the choice of either breakfast or lunch. So I ordered a fried green tomato appetizer, and 2 eggs - over medium, sausage links, home style potatoes, and 2 pancakes. The tomatoes came on a bed of mixed lettuce with feta cheese crumbled over. The flavors mixed well and the tomatoes were fried nicely. When the main meal arrived, the eggs were perfectly done, including fluffy whites. The sausage links were fresh, no casing, and booming with flavor. I had a few of the potatoes, just enough to get a taste. They were mixed with fresh white onions and tasted well. I wanted to save room for the pancakes. For the record, I am normally not a big fan of pancakes, French toast, or waffles.bbut when they brought these 2 10" round fluffy pancakes, I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be full of potatoes. The pancakes were the best I have ever had. If I am correct, they mix cinnamon and orange juice in the batter. This made them so moist and tasted kinda sweet, I didn't need any syrup. The prices were in line with the portions and the service across the board was top notch. This is a must visit when traveling through Hernando. read more

Such a great breakfast good service from Shannon and delicious food. We got the cowboy breakfast all day burger and reds gut buster all plates were delicious and made to order. Grits could have used some salt but that was the least of my worries the steak was cooked perfect and had so much flavor. Pancakes were bigger than the plate bacon was cut thick and the French fries were crispy and the mash and gravy was amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more. This is a "locals" favorite...and with reason. Food is excellent. Portions are HUGE! Staff is attentive. The new outside porch is a really nice touch. Decor is down home Southern. While it's fairly close to the highway, you cannot hear the traffic (unless its a semi using its air brakes). Menu is fairly extensive for a place that's only open for breakfast and lunch. Try it...you will NOT be disappointed. Not worth it. I got one egg and toast, 3.99. no home fries, nothing else comes with it. Fine. I wanted buttered toast anyhow. They wouldn't give me the butter, they say they put it on in the back. Doesn't taste good, and may only be a 25% butter blend. The egg..... Well, what egg. It was the smallest one ever! I got to dip one piece of toast twice, and yolk was gone. Quality of product has nothing to do with Covid. I had to get up and get my own salt and pepper and it took forever for my bill to come. Service...... Good help is hard to find. Came up to Dunnellon, FL while visiting my boyfriends family and they took us here for brunch on Sunday. The ambience is quaint and low key and all the staff is very friendly. I had the veggie Omelet and added cheddar cheese & bacon. I know, I know. Now it's no longer veggie! Lol but I really wanted bacon and the veggie omelet had so many good veggies in it. So glad I did that because the omelet was delicious. Chose to add grits and a fresh biscuit to the meal. Grits were tasty and biscuit had great flavor just wish it wasn't overcooked. My boyfriend got Red's Gut Buster and he said it was great. My mother in law got the pancakes. They are huge, definitely bigger than the plate they are served on. Only complaint about the pancakes? They are yummy but too Cakey and they absorb all the syrup without actually tasting like syrup. My father in law had the eggs Benedict which he said was very good as well. This joint gives you so much food that we were able to eat breakfast the next day from the leftovers. Normally we enjoyed going to Red's restaurant, but will not go again until the Covid thingie is past. None of the waitresses wore mask nor most of the customers (birds of a feather). If Red's isn't concerned with their older generation customers who have to be especially careful, they I guess we aren't concerned with doing business with them either. read more

We visited based on a recommendation from a local. We showed up on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. We were quickly seated and looked over the menu. It was hard to decide what to have because it all sounded good. I got a burger and my girlfriend ordered Chicken Fried Steak. Our only complaint was that they were out of one of the sides and delivered a different one with our food and hadn't informed us. I think it was green beans which normally would be ok except that it was loaded with mushrooms. My girlfriend just can't do them (as many can't) to the point that it makes her nauseous. So her first bite was not good to say the least. I just wish that there had been thought to let us know instead of just serving us what we didn't order. We informed the waitress and were offered a replacement side. The rest of the food tasted amazing and the portions were huge. My girlfriend's chicken fried steak was the best she has ever had. read more

Ate here with family during the Thanksgiving 2012 weekend. Was blown away with how efficient and friendly the staff was during what was a very busy breakfast service, apparently its like this whenever they are open. Huge food portions for the price, if you are into that. I had the most amazing Eggs Benedict that I have had in many years, and the home fries (spuds on the menu) were the best I have had in my life. A nice Koi pond out front entertains while you wait for your table or after your meal. Such wonderful servers make this place a must eat at locale when in the Dunnellon/Hernando area.... This place is a little gem in the middle of nowhere. Just kidding...it's a well known area if you live around there and just gorgeous country! Must agree with all of the other reviews....great atmosphere, excellent comfort food and super southern hospitality! And the people watching....that's worth the price of admission! :D --not an actual admission charge. Their tomato bisque is outstanding and the portions are quite large so come hungry or don't come at all.
