Staff was friendly, and service seemed fairly quick (but we had to ask if our drinks were ready because there was no notification that the order was ready for pickup, and they seem to put the online orders in the fridge to keep them fresh). The shop is clean and cutely decorated. Theres a good amount of seating for the size of the shop. I ordered the BMB matcha latte. It was a bit too sweet for me, but overall not bad. I hadn't been here in a while but my review is the same as before: --5 stars for excellent drinks! The teas and juices are loaded with flavor and sooooo delicious. I got their mango smoothie for the first time and it was bursting with flavor and tasted literally like I was drinking a perfectly ripe mango in slushie form --2 stars for their boba - it is always dense and hard like little marbles. Redstraw is my go-to for Strawberry Matcha Lattes and now for their Strawberry Bingsu. Hubby and I were in the area and I wanted to bring him to where I go to get some yummy drinks. THE MOOD: Redstraw has a very modern, open, and bright ambiance when you walk in. There's seating along the walls and also even more seating outside. With the windows, the interior feels very bright and inviting. There's also usually plenty of parking when I go. THE FOOD: I usually get the Strawberry Matcha Latte and I like that the sweetness is very balanced in this drink. I also really enjoy the bits of strawberry that you get with each sip and the matcha is not overpowering. We also recently got the Strawberry Bingsu and unfortunately for hubs, I think he only got a few bites in before I absolutely demolished this glorious cup of goodness. What a cute little tea shop in Irvine! We stopped by on Monday night after dinner, and as expected, it wasn't busy, so our drinks came out in just a few minutes. The décor is really pretty -- definitely a great spot for photos. As for the drinks, there were so many tempting options that it was hard to choose! We ended up with a taro smoothie with extra honey boba (an extra $1 -- ouch!) and a peach Bellini. Both were okay -- not amazing, not bad, just average in our opinion. The indoor seating is all small 2-top tables, so the capacity of the store is not that large. The menu is fairly extensive with all of the drinks that you typically see at a boba shop but it also has a very large variety of creative drinks and flavors. I didn't see it explicitly written out on the menu, but they do have customizations for alternative milks as well. There's nothing outstanding about the service, it's very minimal but very quick. The drinks have good flavor and the boba that was added on for my drink was cooked well. The tea flavor wasn't very strong, but could still be tasted. We went here on a Saturday and ordered two drinks. This place is conveniently located next to Mokkoji hot pot and other yummy restaurants located in the Albertsons center. There is also a Starbucks next door. We had the Thai tea with almond milk and boba (for an additional $1) and the Toxic Garden. Both drinks were at 100% sweetness. The drinks here are a value for the size (24 oz), and these are quality drinks. The Thai tea, surprisingly was not overly sweet. The boba was good and fresh. The Toxic Garden (strange name if you ask me) is a combination of green juice consisting of kale, celery, and cucumber mixed with jade tea. It was a tad sweet, but tasted better after the ice melted some. Customer service was good and the cashier was nice. The inside is cute with some seating although most people took their drinks to go when we came. The line was long, but they were efficient so it took only about 5 minutes for the drinks to come out. Went there on a super hot Saturday in Orange County so I decided on the strawberry bingsoo. The texture was great. It's a creamy yet icy consistency with the perfect level of sweetness. It's a total bummer I even have to leave this review but here we are. We used to be frequent customers of this place, coming several times a week. We would buy at least 4 drinks each time, sometimes 5 or 6. Until now. We ordered 5 drinks this time. FIVE. One of us also got a Starbucks coffee (literally coffee, not even food) as well and we were sitting inside Red Straw, which was entirely unoccupied. One of their employees came over to inform us that there's a no outside food or drink policy (which isn't even posted anywhere visible - maybe just in their minds but I'm no mind reader). While charging my car at an Electrify America charging station, I decided to grab a drink from this spot because it was in the plaza. I got the jasmine tea with sea cream at 50% sugar. It was good, but not very strong on the jasmine flavor. The sea cream went really well with the drink and I liked the slight saltiness of it. The tea itself was still pretty high in sugar content even though I got it at 50% sweet. I'd probably get it at 25% sweet next time. Came here after getting some shabu next door and I must say it was very delicious. The place inside is so clean and has this cozy feel where you can either do some homework or have tea and enjoy some company with friends and family. It had a welcoming presence to it when you walk in. I love their tea choices and it was very refreshing. Redstraw is a bit of an enigma for me. When I first discovered this boba shop a year or 2 ago during my visits to Irvine, I was impressed. The Rose Garden in particular was a highlight for me. Great flavor, refreshing, and to top it all off, a focus on "healthier" boba drinks. I was always perplexed by the lack of customers. I mean, nearby shops like Omomo have lines out the door. Perhaps this was a hidden gem? Now that I've lived in Irvine and got to frequent boba shops around here more often, it's starting to make sense. Redstraw has its own niche. If you're looking for a nice fruit tea, this is definitely a great option. Rose Garden, or any of the "mocktail" sounding drinks (Peach Bellini, Mojito, etc.) are fantastic. Just make sure to get less sweet. However, they don't really have much else. Milk teas are just ok. No slushies. Coffee options are just alright. So yea, if you just want to get a refreshing drink on a hot summer day, this could be a good spot. Otherwise, other boba shops have it beat in terms of variety. read more
