Another Yelp success. Many thank you's to my fellow reviewers. A cozy, country farmhouse atmosphere with cute gingham curtains and patio seating. We were there for breakfast. Many reviews mentioned the Havarti and egg dishes, so I went with a Havarti and spinach scramble. This was definitely a good choice, scrambled lightly and the cheese was mild and buttery. There was enough to share between the two of us. Instead of a breakfast potato, we got grits. These are the real kind, long cooked, white corn, not instant, which I topped with real butter. Yum. It also came with a choice of toast. I like that they lightly butter it while still warm. Then came dessert. You know. Breakfast dessert. A show-stopping peach pie that fulfilled many of the food group requirements we must all adhere to. The all important crust passed the picky-Wendy-test. Good, short flaky crust. And the filling... I am guessing they probably use frozen peaches, but not to worry, because it was ripe and sweet, and still had a crunch, unlike canned. Topped with whipped cream. But the best part, there is this secret flavor ingredient. I am guessing, but it sure tasted like clove. It made it simply amazing. We had fun perusing the cookbooks laying around. The owner came out and was happy we were enjoying "his collection". Farmers Brothers coffee is served. It's Ok. If you want gourmet coffee, there are several coffee houses in town. Went here for breakfast around 9:30. The food was decent but nothing special. The elderly man who served our drinks was peeved when he brought regular creamer when I asked for flavored creamer. He became even more irritated when I asked for a spoon to stir the creamer in the coffee. read more

We were treated with disrespect and loud yelling by the two white elder employees in front of the entire restaurant while we were exiting the restaurant. They have misleading signs saying to have masks. We had masks, we wore them while entering & before eating. We had just finished eating and were publicly harrassed/ humiliated in front of our 3 minor children. I never mention race as an issue but because we were the only colored people we were yelled at. No one else was wearing masks while seated. The white customers did not get that treatment. I was completely appalled. The behavior was completely uncalled for and disgusting. I will NOT support your local business again. All you had to do was ask kindly to replace the masks before exiting. There was no need for the yelling. You are failing the guidelines for outside dinning anyway and your tables are not far enough apart. You need to educate yourself as a company to maintain social distancing. We were very pleasantly surprised with this Mexican café hidden away from the main road. Their Birria was the best I ever tasted and we loved their Gorditas. Mostly your traditional breakfast fare, our dishes were prepared really well. Hot, fresh, tasty, creative, etc. We were here during coronavirus II, so only the patio was open. They have a decent number of tables out there, so it was not a problem. Staff was attentive and pleasant throughout and even laughed at our dumb jokes that they've probably heard a zillion times. The Redwood Café is the small classic; short order cook; too tall high school bus boy; the waitress who has been doing it forever complemented with a maître d' who never lost his stride between opening envelopes and Seating guests. Chicken fried steak was amazing. All the dishes coming out of the kitchen which I faced from the counter; they all look fantastic. Health Note; (which is the whole reason I wrote this review) I ordered the chicken fried steak with no toast. While visiting the area. This place is a good catch! We stayed at cavalier hotel, even though they have a restaurant in the premises we went back down here in Cambria and came here. There food is good, and the server is nice and helpful. We came in around 12pm and they still serving breakfast till 2 pm. We love the egg Benedict and the portion wasn't too bad. Worst dining experience I've ever had. For starters, our kids order a glass of milk with their meal, when the drinks came, they complained the milk was sour... I personally tasted and it turned my stomach. We hoped it wasn't an indication of the food to come. Unfortunately it was. We ordered a side of fruit and the apples were water rotted and the bowl had slimy liquid filling the bottom. To top it off when leaving, we respectfully decided not to further complain about the fruit after already complaining about the milk and upon declining a Togo container the waitress asked if we were just going to "waste all of it instead" I personally wasn't interested in having their rotten food in my car for our 4 hour drive home and thought it wasn't very polite to accept the my initial respectful decline of the box. This cafe was recommended to us by the hotel concierge as a local hot spot. There is outdoor dining and COVID regulations are being followed which helped to put us at ease. Beware the rude, cranky older man, who may be the owner! Several reviews here mention him. We went to the patio to be seated and we have our dog. We wanted to sit in the shade and asked for a table in the corner. The cranky man said, "there's a dog at the next table and we need separation, sit over there". (It was in the sun). My wife started to speak and the cranky old man cut her off and barked, "Sit over there or I can't help you!". This was in front of everyone dining outside and they were all looking at us, faces in shock. I should have to the cranky, rude, woman-hating man to go jump but I decided to be silent, had I spoken, it would have been insanely NASTY and the guy would have deserved every word of it. The three of us went in this morning for breakfast and discovered ants crawling on one of our entree plates. The server's response to our complaint was that "we have ants everywhere-- it's that time of year." We paid and left without eating after they refused to comp the plate with ants. Went by here today for lunch on Wednesday 7/13/2022 at 1230pm. And finding out they are closed. On the door it says they are open from 7am to 2PM Monday to Friday and Saturday and Sunday 7am-2pm. I think it was a little dry and couldn't eat the egg without the ingredients or hot sauce; the ingredients weren't evenly distributed. The biscuits were hard on the outside. The food took about 20 min to come out for a family of seven, not bad. The cups are small and by the time the food came, our coffee was cold. My cousins got the blueberry pancakes, a bunch of blueberries stuffed between the stack instead of evenly distributed within the batter. Despite of what other people say about this place, I actually love it! I've been to two different breakfast restaurants both in San Simeon and was not very happy, so I decided to drive down the road to Cambria. They're bacon, was perfect (not too overdone crunchy, and beef jerky-like texture. Their toast was so good too. I opted for grits instead of potatoes. It was yummy. The waitress was also really kind and attentive. I will definitely come back here again and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to have a good, homey breakfast. read more

I haven't been there yet for breakfast or lunch since it's been under new ownership but have been there several times for their Mexican food dinners. The food is authentic and delicious! The chips and salsa are fresh and so tasty. They usually have a special each night that is not on the menu. I've tried a few and they have been so good. Service is also very good with the owner, Leticia, being hands on with service. They are only serving dinner right now on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:00 to 9:00. Definitely worth trying if your craving some authentic Mexican food. The bonus is its reasonably priced too! read more

Surprisingly nice take on an American Diner experience where Diner type food is served at a nice "street side" cafe. We were first time in the area so we were looking to have breakfast before heading out for the day so we stopped in. The place is not fancy by any means but the pancakes and omelets are filling and very very tasty. We had some pancakes and omelets and coffee, which was enough for quite a bit of time of walking around the wine country. My husband and I stopped by this place almost three years ago when driving through Cambria on our way up Highway 1. We were here for a Mother's Day weekend getaway and decided to stop by again. It was just as delicious as I had remembered! My husband got the blueberry pancakes and I got the eggs benedict. We literally ate so quick I forgot to take photos. There was no wait at around 10 on Mother's Day which was a huge plus. The food was delicious and the service was great. Our server, whose name I totally forgot, was so fun and attentive! Amazing! This place does not look like much, but do not be deceived! The service is awesome. As they were setting our place settings, they were double checking to make sure that the silverware was up to par. As they got to a fork that was cleaned, but watermarked, they replaced it! Prices completely reasonable. The food was awesome and A LOT. None of my family could finish it. Coffee was awesome. They also are very meticulous when they are cleaning the tables. I watched them take a clean rag with what smelled like bleach and clean the entire table top, legs, chairs and the rungs of the chairs. This is a place that clearly cares.
