I always enjoy date nights at the movie theater and really appreciate this one because they have pretty good food and beer selection.

This theater is tucked away behind a large bank building, and can be very hard to see. It is by far…read morethe smallest theater I have ever seen...but don't let the size fool you. Inside are two screens, both quite sizeable, with ample seating. From what I understand, this theater is not open year-round. It opens during summer blockbuster season, and when highly anticipated movies come about. I suppose that's why when we showed up, the guy thought we were there to see the new Mission Impossible movie. We were actually there to see The Muppets. When we got there, I was feeling a mixture of both excitement, and nerves. I looked around, and it looked like the Movie Theater That Time Forgot. The concession stand was dimly lit and looked like it hadn't been used in ages. There were movie posters rolled up in a corner, the marquees still used removable letters...it was OLD SCHOOL. The theater is owned/operated by an Indian man, who was the only person running everything. He was the concession stand clerk, box office clerk, and projectionist. Tickets are the cheapest anywhere for new flicks. $5 for adults, $3 for kids, all the time. The movie-watching experience was pretty nice...although about 2/3 of the way through the movie, the sound had some hiccups, which the man explained was due to the way he had everything set up. He apologized for that, and we didn't really mind, since he was so incredibly nice to us. He also REALLY loves and is proud of his surround sound, which he gave us a demo of (we watched a 20 minute segment from XXX, and the explosions, car crashes, ect. sounded really great), and he was really anxious to show it to us the entire night. I have to give him credit...he may not be running a sparkling, shiny new theater, but I liked his enthusiasm for what he did have to offer, and sometimes, that's all you really need. We will most definitely be back for an action flick to make use of his sound system.

I visited this location of Alamo Drafthouse last weekend for The Substance Movie Party (if you…read morehaven't been to an Alamo Drafthouse movie party, run don't walk...) and had a pretty good time. I left Texas about a decade ago, and - I'm not exaggerating here - people get annoyed by how often I say I miss Texas's movie theaters and grocery stores. The first Alamo Drafthouse was opened in downtown Austin in 1997, but it quickly made a name for itself (more on that below) and expanded around Austin before expanding to other other Texas cities and then outside Texas. It now has 40 locations! So why is Alamo Drafthouse so great? Even from the first location, the theater offered unique programming alongside traditional movie viewing: silent movies scored by local bands as accompaniment, movies served with special menus themed to the film, retrospectives, and more. Also from the beginning, they offered the ability to order food and drink inside the theater, something that not that many theaters were doing at the time. It remains a unique movie theater experience, even as it's been extremely influential nationwide. I can't remember when I saw my first movie at an Alamo Drafthouse (was it when I lived in Austin in 2007-2008 or 2014-2015?!), but after I went for the first time I was hooked. I've seen singalongs (Moulin Rouge), rowdy screenings (Magic Mike XXL), old movies paired with classic cocktails (it was an ongoing series at the Ritz location on Mondays, I think - it's been so long!), and more. I visited this location (how I wish it had been here when I was kid growing up in Lake Highlands) for the first time with my family last weekend. It has some of the great things that most Alamo Drafthouse locations have, but there were a couple of detractors that made me like it a bit less than other locations. First of all - god, it was hot. I was fanning myself with my Monstro Eliasue that was one of our souvenirs for the movie party. I know some people don't like to be cold, but this theater was entirely too warm (my brother who sees movies often at this theater said that's standard for this location). I also found the customer service to be less friendly at this location than others I've been to in the past (no hello when we walked in even though two employees in the entry looked right at us as we entered). Is it my favorite Alamo Drafthouse location? No. If I still lived in Dallas, would I be here on a regular basis? Yes. Alamo Drafthouse is a treasure. I hope it's always around.

The night was enjoyable with the exception of the obnoxious family next to us constantly getting in our ways and the parents not tending to their kids. Tried to ignore that and focus on the time spent with the family. I do wish the lanes had a little more room and also the staff paid a little more attention to the guests and ensure they are following rules and proper etiquette. But let's be honest, these are usually younger kids and confrontation can be intimidating so I do not fault them. Lanes were clean, never had trouble with the pins, no technical issues, and the server kept our drinks filled and the food was more than decent. Will be back!

My husband and I were extremely impressed when we walked inside. It's buzzing with business as there's so much to enjoy in one place. You can bowl, play at the arcade, dine in at their bar or catch a film. Do note that if you're there to watch a movie they have an automated kiosk before you walk to the attendant where you can purchase & print your tickets. If you purchase your tickets online then you can scan your QR code or manually enter the confirmation code & it will print your tickets out for you. How cool is that? AMC Theatres could never ! We came to watch Tron: Ares which had our attention from the moment it started. Definitively one of the best films we've seen this year...might even be number 2 in our top five lineup (after Sinners of course). Film Alley also happens to be a dine in theatre, so we took advantage. Our server Macela M was sweet and efficient. I ordered their $11 Mexican Street Dawg meal that came w/fries & then got a root beer to drink and a kids popcorn as it's not a movie night without it. Everything was delicious. My only critique is the bun to meat ratio was way off. I understand wanting to elevate the dish and make it more filling, but I wound up having to discard half the bun as it was too much bread. My husband had a Cheeseburger meal with fries and an Icee to drink. No complaints from his end. Overall this was a great experience for us. The theatre was clean, recliners were new and very comfortable & the bathrooms were also well maintained. My husband and I can't wait to come back.

We didn't want to make a big deal of it so we shifted over to the next few seats, but then a group arrived and let us know that those were their assigned seats. So we got up and moved to the top row, where all of the seats were broken. Recliner didn't work nor did the button to notify the staff. Throughout the movie there was a loud disturbing banging behind us. Also the service was extremely slow. It took an hour to receive my food and when I did, this was the presentation and the food was cold. The brisket was sparse and the tots barely had barbecue sauce. The bathrooms were filthy. Trash everywhere and the stalls had fluids on the wall. It was very uncomfortable. My friend and I went to speak to the manager, Miguel, who did not accept any accountability for the quality of the service and the overall experience. He repeatedly mentioned that we could've gotten up and gotten a staff member for our issues. Why should we as guests get up in the middle of the movie several times to tell the staff how to do their job? Piss poor service. I do not recommend this theater and won't be back.

We probably could have moved since there was an abundance of empty seats. There couldn't have been more than 10 other patrons at our showing. We decided to just stay in our pre-selected seats. The restrooms were deplorable! In all, we enjoyed the movie and our time together, but this theater is in desperate need of renovations.

We ended…read moreup here after our first choice did not have seats together for the movie we wanted to see. We bought tickets online, which showed the theater was nearly sold out. But in reality, the theater was not full. So I am not quite sure what was going on. The theater has not changed and has not been updated since our 2011 visit. The theater is showing its age. The seats we had were broken. They were stuck in one position and could only be changed with considerable physical force. I had to get up and kick the seat many times to get it to a normal upright position. The seats were not comfortable. The theater we were in (#1) had a screen that was too small for the size. The theater was quite large and we were towards the back, Row G, and screen seemed barely adequate. Maybe it would have been better if we had been closer. The previews appeared not to be in HD although the picture quality for the main show was fine. Aside from our broken chairs, another complaint is the fact that servers were walking in front of us nearly the entire show. You think that ordering food and drink as you watch a movie is a good idea, but it is not. It became really annoying to constantly have servers walk in front of us, which was distracting especially during key moments of the movie. We did not order any food but the people to the right and left of us did, so we had people walking in front of us the entire show. I have recently been back as an adult and the experience is not quite as I remember. The seating is still nice but basically matches the seating of most modern theaters. The room was packed with loud kids and teenagers who either ran around with no care or were glued to their phone at full volume. Both of these did not make for a good viewing experience. The food, which was not cheap by any means, was also extremely bland and slightly cold. Not to mention, the wait staff is on the younger side and didn't seem to care about customer service whatsoever. I would for sure recommend this place for teens and kids as it still seems like a hotspot for that age group. As far as anyone older, perhaps not.
