Just tried again this past Saturday night. Came in after 9, sat at the bar and ordered seared tuna with forbidden rice salad. Boyfriend ordered mussels in a very delicious broth. Valet is great. Had chilled vodka shots, many maple bourbons and a couple of beakers of wine. I had the tenderloin my date had the risotto. Appetizer we had clams and they were wonderful as well as the scotch olives. Everything was perfect except for spending 170.00 for two, when the chef/owner comes to walk around, you think she would stop by your table. Especially when they were not that busy for a Friday. I would have given four stars, but she can thank herself for not stopping by on that one. Server was incredible. I would go back there time and time again. This place was delightful. Loved the food and the atmosphere. American foodie is what I would call it -- an imaginative take on traditional items, with fresh ingredients. I didn't ask if it was farm-to-table but it seemed to be. The ingredients had flavor. This is in a part of Toledo that used to be a fading urban city center and is now being revitalized. The night we were there there were gallery openings and a street fair. It was delightful and the Registry Bistro was an excellent place to end up. Also they have $5 valet parking which I thought was very reasonable. Only downside, not one I'd deduct for, is that it can get noisy. Finally, they have tables by windows that are open in nice weather. You might ask for one for the atmosphere. read more

I am a first time diner at Registery Bistro. For sure this will not be the last. Zack, our server, was very attentive. I was meeting friends there and Zack was attentive but giving space to not seem like he was hovering. Unlike many restaurants, he went at our pace - appetizer came out and was finished then our main course came out. Can't compliment enough. Quite a lovely addition to Dowtown Toledo and the food could well make this a destination restaurant. The quality of the plates that my wife and I had was nothing short of exquisite and our meals were probably the best we've eaten in Toledo in over 10 years. We started with a an appetizer of ginger-infused basil pesto served with the thinnest crackers imaginable...light and like eating air...served with pickled local baby veggies. We followed that with the chilled soup if the day: a creamy roasted asparagus soup with notes of nutmeg that brought the cold soup together into a unified whole. My wife had the perfectly cooked Blackstrap Miso-Roasted Sea Bass and I had the Pastrami Rubbed Tenderloin of Beef, again perfectly prepared and presented. We will go again. read more

We attended the NYE dinner party last night and it amazed me how good the good was for a big crowd of 100+!!!! Everything was perfect!! This trip was very similar to previous visits. I would say the restaurant is very good, but not great. The menu variety is wonderful, with a great selection of very unique and special items, however our experience is, most of the items sound better than they actually taste. Not they are bad by any means, however the description sounds totally wonderful, and then we are disappointed when the entrees are not to die for. Perhaps not fair on our part. The atmosphere is very nice, but it loud, and while a party of 4 is comfortable, any larger number would make it to hard to communicate. Service was good - our waitress was wonderful, however the drinks took quite a while. We were there on a Friday night, the restaurant was crowded, and yet only one bartender was working. The cocktails were all exceptional. We will go back, as I always enjoy trying the new entrees on their menu, and will hope the next new items we try will be "to die for". read more

OK, so I love Registry; the atmosphere is great, the drinks are great, the vegetables are amazing, the meat dishes are creative and tasty, and the servers are professional and personable. Had to update because we recently had the Green Bear Ball at the Secor Bldg, essentially in the rooms adjacent to the restaurant, so it was catered (with full bar service) by Registry. They did a great job. If you have a medium-sized to big special event that you want to be very special, consider these guys. They will not disappoint. read more

My boyfriend and I came to Toledo to visit the AMAZING !!! Toledo Museum of Art and stopped in to the Registry for apps and drinks. Ok.. whoa . IT WAS PHENOMENAL! We had the brussels, the mussels and the meat board and it was all exquisite! There was NOTHING mediocre about the food and the service was top notch ! We sat at the bar with Logan who could not have been lovelier or more knowledgeable or attentive. The BBQ Brussel Sprout app was one of the most delectable things I have ever put in my mouth. Flaky and rich, bursting with flavor! Seriously want these everyday! The meat board was eclectic and divine and the mussels were a rich and fascinating take on chorizo I have never experienced. It was a dead Saturday night In DT Toledo but that didn't limit the amazing experience we had at Registry. It is a must visit destination when in Toledo. Owner Erika Rapp is unprofessional and extremely rude. Make sure to get a contract from the first meeting, after paying the required deposit, prices are increased and I would be amazed if Ms. Rapp knew how to speak the truth. One of the best restaurants in town. Nice people, great wine list, and great dining options. I had a beef tenderloin perfectly cooked and my girlfriend had the steamed muscles. I'm torn on my feelings about this place. Here are my thoughts: Went on a Friday night. There was a concert at the Huntington Center across the street. The place was not full. This is not a good sign The menu is too over the top for this area. Waitress had to translate the majority of the menu. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate finer foods and it's refreshing to have a place like this in Toledo, but the reality is this is TOLEDO , not NYC or Napa Valley. With that being said you need to be conscious as to who your clientele is. The only somewhat typical item on the menu was a meatloaf type burger and fries (not called fries on the menu ). I saw this plate come out of the kitchen several times. What does that tell you? It says "I'm going to pick something that seems safe". That's your clientele. So my suggestion would be to create more menu items that are attractive to this area. And make the menu a little more "user friendly". I appreciate Chef Erika's credentials and her food and presentation is very good. Very nice venue. Great location. Great service. Just offer some entrees that appeal to a larger demographic and this place could be the talk of the town. read more

I heard such great things about this restaurant and was excited to give it a try. Our first visit went well, portions were quite small but the food and service was great. Now for our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th experiences... Our second experience our server must have forgot we were there; portions were incredibly small and we left hungry. We were told that we could order more food if what we ordered wasn't enough but our server didn't get back to our table after the food came out until we told the bartender we needed our check. Our third visit we looked up the menu online to make sure it had items on it that everyone in our party could eat; to our dismay the menu posted online was not the menu they were serving that night or for that month. Along with that, a food critic was also at the restaurant and the entire staff seemed to cater to them. Several tables including our table had to walk to the bar to get drinks and refill water. And to top it off our party's food was served 15 minutes apart as well; some people were finishing their meals when others were just being served. Our fourth visit was actually for our wedding reception. Even with all the negative experiences we had our hearts set on the Ballroom space and hoped Registry would impress us with the food once again. There was an inadequate amount of food; food was served 'family style' and it was supposed to be refilled if items ran out but not a single table was refilled. Several wedding guests had to come up to our head table and eat some of our food. The food was amazing but dealing with Vickie and Erika was far from pleasant. After I was assured that menus would be printed I was upset to find out they were not placed at the place settings or anywhere. The ventilation was also not operating properly that day either; which we were not informed until I spoke to a restaurant guest in the hallway. No one asked me, as the bride, or my husband how the night was or if there were any issues. Our timeline was also not followed and I wasn't informed dinner was going to be delayed by 45 minutes. Previously the taste of the food kept us coming back to Registry Bistro even with the poor service and rude owners; however what happened with our wedding I will not attend Registry Bistro ever again. read more

I've tried to love this place. The ambiance is great, there is a good/lively vibe about the place, but the food never seems to achieve what I hoped it would. I've given this place the benefit of the doubt three times, but I still have not found anything to eat that makes my taste buds dance. The closest item was a special of the day that was a Latin American pork dish, but other then this, I leave pretty disappointed with the food. In addition, two of the three times the waitstaff either forgot about us, or did not see us sit down for a good 30 minutes. There are plenty of other restaurants that I would go eat at in Toledo prior to returning here for a fourth time. read more

After reading so many positive reviews I was really excited to go here. Sadly, my husband and I were disappointed. While the cocktails, desserts, and charcuterie were fabulous, the rest was lacking. The bistro frites were ok, but the fondue was very runny. I liked the BLT salad but would have preferred it without the tough romaine "butt". The scallops were delicious, but the corn polenta and pickled onions were detrimental to the flavors. My husband ordered the walleye cheeks based on the waitress's recommendation, while the sauce was amazing, the fish was tough. Speaking of the waitress, she was extremely inattentive. After my water glass sat empty half way through dinner and all of dessert, I had to ask for a refill. Yes, I could have asked sooner, but she refilled the water of neighboring tables without prompts. It just wasn't up to par with other area restaurants. We will not be back in the near future. read more

Registry Bistro is now open on the first floor of the renovated Secor Hotel. Come and enjoy another great addition to downtown Toledo's renaissance of attractions, special events and nightlife. Erica Rapp, Chef de Cuisine, burst onto the Toledo dining scene with a handsome and minimalist space featuring a changing menu of New American Cuisine. For the uninitiated, New American Cuisine started in California as French trained American chefs began incorporating fresh, local, seasonal ingredients along with more global influences to update American cooking. Chef Rapp trained at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America and has a devoted audience in Toledo from her previous roles as the Executive Chef at the Toledo Museum of Art and at Diva Restaurant. Unlike Diva, Registry is a bistro. A bistro is an inviting place with a moderately priced menu that demonstrates the chef's creativity with a focus on seasonal ingredients. My dining companions and I started the meal with the "Nibbles and Nosh". We enjoyed the "Scotch Olives with Saffron Aioli" ($8), "Sprout and Fennel Roll with Smoked Brook Trout and a Verjus-Yuzu Dipping Sauce" ($7). We also had Bistro Frites with cracked pepper and sea salt ($4) served with a "Moody Blue Fondue". The "Moody Blue Fondue" is a smooth, creamy and delicate blend of four cheeses that creates a single harmonious flavor making a generous portion of crispy French fries quickly disappear. The "Scotch Olives" are a take on "Scotch Eggs" with hearty green olives stuffed with herbed goat cheese, surrounded by chorizo and coated with bread crumbs before being deep fried. Sounds absurd. Tastes delicious. Especially when consumed with a Dirty Dill ($8), one of Registry Bistro's signature cocktails. Moving on to the "Soup & Greens", we selected the Mixed Field Green Salad with Smoked Blue featuring Lacquered Walnuts and a citrus dill vinaigrette ($4). This is a plate of mesclun leaves with blue cheese and spiced walnuts, candied in maple syrup. While the citrus and dill flavors of the dressing are imperceptible, the candied walnuts are a sweet contrast to the sharpness of blue cheese. The Spice Lacquered Walnuts may be ordered as an appetizer for $5. The evening we dined at Registry Bistro, the day's market soup ($5) was an elegant Vichyssoise, normally pureed and chilled potato soup, was prepared instead with sun chokes and a sprinkle of roasted duck confit that leaves a hint of orange rind. It takes hours of prep work to be able to make a soup with this complexity. Chef Rapp's talent lies in seamlessly balancing all of the tastes into one extraordinary flavor. The entrees are divided between "Light Fare" and "Main" and offer a range of game, fish, fowl and vegetarian dishes. I ordered the Pan Roasted Corvina, a white fish similar to sea bass (aka corvina drum), with cannellini beans served with braised fennel and dandelion greens. One of my tablemates ordered the Rabbit Potpie with carrots and English peas and the third ordered Pot Roast Ravioli that was also served with braised vegetables. The entrees we ordered are all delicious. For my taste, salt overpowers the broth served over both the fish and the ravioli entrees. Personally, I would like to see the summer menu place a greater emphasis on crisp and colorful summer vegetables, fresh garden herbs and main courses that are grilled/seared rather than braised or roasted. As the heat index surges above 90, I'd love to try Chef Rapp's take on ceviche or maybe her preparation of a fresh catch from the Great Lakes. She can go back to potpie, fondue, and pot roast as well as assorted wild game with earthy, roasted vegetables in the fall. For those with dietary restrictions, the menu is well marked for vegetarian and gluten free diets. There is, of course, a great selection of homemade desserts. For $9, you may have a sampling of the sweets. My favorite is the rich and creamy chocolate, stout and pretzel tart. Ms. Rapp does an outstanding job creating a comprehensive and food friendly wine list. Wines range from "Old World" European red, white, rose, champagne and sparkling to "New World" varietals. Wine may be ordered by the glass, by the bottle or in a 1/2 bottle served in a whimsical vessel that reminds me of a glass beaker in a science lab. Registry Bistro is a great addition to downtown Toledo dining . Impress a date or client with Toledo's sophistication,rekindle a romance, or just come on your own to discover the sensuality of New American Cuisine with a dinner at Registry Bistro. My husband and I went out for New Year's Eve dinner at Registry Bistro. The night started out rough when the hostess could not find our reservation (how they lost it, I don't know - they use a paper system and the hostess took my phone and credit card numbers when I called). We had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table. When we were seated, we were given the pre fixe menu and drink menus. The drinks sounded promising, so I ordered a Death's Door gin gimlet on the rocks. It took at least 15 minutes for my drink to arrive, and it came straight up. It was another 15 minutes before my fixed drink came. Then the drink was awful! There was hardly and flavor to the drink as if it was just water and gin. So it's time to talk food. We ordered mushroom soup, oxtail app, cheese soufflé app, beef tenderloin entree, veal chop entree, and for dessert, chocolate pot de creme and pear cobbler something. The appetizers were REALLY good! We thought things were finally turning around. The soup was delicious! The ox tail and cheese soufflé each had great presentations and great flavor combinations. The entrees were really DISAPPOINTING! My husband cut into his beef, which he ordered medium, and it had to be sent back - it was purple! It took a while to flag the waitress down, but she took it back to cook longer, no problem. Then it came time for me to try the veal chop. I wanted it medium well, but the waitress has said all preparations would be medium that night. It should've been a red flag for me to order something else. My first cut into the veal chop was pure fat. Ok, try another spot. Pure fat. Another spot, hooray, meat! That little tender bite was delicious! Unfortunately, it was literally the only piece of meat on the entire chop. The rest was completely fat! Gross!! How does the chef not realize she is serving such an awful cut of meat? Having already sent back one dish, my husband and I just shared his streak. The steak was pretty good. I hoped the waitress would notice the uneaten veal chop that was completely pushed to the side of the table as I ate steak off a bread dish, but she just looked at it funny and took it away without comment - clearly ignoring the obvious. She didn't even ask how our food was. Then came dessert. The pot de creme was okay. Pretty good chocolate mousse, but nothing special. The pear dessert was simply gross. It was served cold for some very odd reason I'll never understand. It was a baked pear in a baked cobbler-like shell, so it was obviously warm at some point. Having been chilled, the pear was rock hard and the cake part tasted like nasty leftovers. Still pissed about my veal, I decided not to stay quiet. I called the waitress over and asked if they had forgotten to heat my dessert. She said it was supposed to be chilled, but offered to heat it up. Five minutes later it came out piping hot, and I must admit, it tasted delicious that way! The waitress came over and when I told her how good it finally tasted, she said, "gee, we probably should have served it warm all night?" Oh boy. I was also upset that the pre fixe price had 20% gratuity added. The menu said "plus tax and gratuity," but did not indicate it was a set gratuity at 20%. No wonder service was lacking, she was guaranteed 20% no matter what! (That being said, we were planning to tip well anyway bc it sucks to work on holidays, but that tip should be earned, not sneakily included in the bill.) I don't think I'll find myself traveling through Toledo again anytime soon, but I can't imagine eating at this restaurant again for anything other than appetizers. read more

So sad to give this review. Our previous experiences at the Registry have been nothing but exceptional. We had cocktails and an appetizer at the bar. The drinks, food, and service were exceptional. We were seated for our dinner and that's where it took a down turn. Service (Hannah) was awesome and actually the redeeming factor for the dinner. The salads were okay and entrees not quite as described on the menu. Meat was undercooked and the normal symphony of flavors was absent. It was a Wednesday so we are hoping that it was just a fluke. We will definitely give it another try because this is normally a wonderful experience. read more

In Toledo area for the weekend and came about this place while researching spots for dinner. We love our farm to table, fresh, local restaurants and this seemed to be exactly that. Called for reservations and to ask about kids menu which they had and it was awesome-note to other places kids have palates too especially the ones whose parents take them to nice places..you don't have to dumb it down. Anyway, sat by the French doors viewing out to downtown Toledo streets, the place was chic without trying to hard and reminded me of our beloved Cleveland places we go to. The menu was great, gluten free, vegan, listed and available my kind of place! We ordered the new Italian Cabernet that the owner just got in and it was amazing. My husband started with the wedge salad that had their pralines on top-salty sweet nuts and I regretted not ordering the pralines as our app! My salad was delicious and he loved his wedge. We ordered the meatball lollipops off the kids menu for an app as our fantastic waiter recommended them for my sons dinner but he didn't want it for dinner. They came out and were amazing. My daughter had Mac and cheese with fruit and my son did a grilled cheese. I ordered a Thai chicken dish I believe and it was good-not fantastic and I think the seasoning could be tweaked, it was very one note especially for Thai. My husbands meatloaf burger was delicious and he loved it. Our waiter recommended the dessert sampler for the table and the kids had macrons (macrons were very sweet!) the dessert sampler was enough for all 4 of us and each one was fantastic. It was a great meal, fantastic service, and if we are ever in Toledo will make this a dinner spot! read more
