Went looking for a travel backpack. They had so many options. I love this place when it comes to outdoor travel goods. REI does not sacrifice quality. Their merchandise is top tier. I tried out an Osprey Fairpoint 40L travel backpack. The harnessing system was quite good as it adjusted according to your torso size. It had beefy waist harness and an adjustable sternum harness as well. It was a pretty nice fit for me, but I was just comparing my options. I wanted to try a Cotopaxi 35L but they were out of stock. I always have a great experience here! The staff really know their craft and make such helpful suggestions - and really go above and beyond to make sure you find what you need whilst shopping. I went yesterday to finish getting the gear I needed to start training for this year's SoCal six peak challenge...I came on a perfect day bc they were having a HUGE sale!! I totally scored on this REI run!! I for an Osprey Daylight pack, a Hydroflask, and finally some much needed spikes!! The backpack was like 30% off and wasn't even marked so I was pleasantly surprised! The Hydroflask was 40% off! They're still on sale - certain Hydroflask colors like watermelon (dark pink), hibiscus (lighter pink), spearmint (a light green) and sunflower (a yellow) but they only had like 1 sunflower color left when I was there. They've got plenty of parking in their private lot and they're limiting store capacity but have shaded area to wait in line if needed. read more

I asked my wife to pick up some bear spray for a camping trip we were taking to Grand Teton/Yellowstone a week later. An employee told her bear spray was illegal in the park. She was there with our kids and the employee took the opportunity to tell her that all bear spray did was hurt kids. Not only was this information false, but it was reckless. Not a single Yellowstone employee would give that advice. I don't know what's going on at that REI, but that was dangerous. read more

He was one of the most idiotic sale person I've actually ever met and he was nowhere near helpful. My dad just purchased an 700 dollar bike and he could've cared less and the customer service was lacking extremely. We had just purchased a bike for my younger brother and was also going to purchase a bike for my older brother but because of how annoying and bland David is, we decided not to purchase and on top of that the saving deals that were currently happening, he had no knowledge and we had to mention the saving option. I would've expected due to the amount of money we spent, the service would've been more generous or at least just nice but instead my family and I walked out feeling very very annoyed. I had to get measured for your feet do change over the years. Little did I know ? Silly huh. He got me the right shoes and my feet are 14 in Brooks. 13.5 in hokas. But they only come In certain sizes. The sale was going on and we picked up some nice jacked for 25% off plus for one item of 20%z. sale. Very very nice. Two transactions . Two people. It worked out. Please refer to Sarah G.'s review in June of 2024 - we had the EXACT same experience. Went to return some shoes that didn't live up to our expectations and straight up sucked. They hurt, wore out quickly, and was the first pair of shoes I've ever purchased for over $100. They were not great. Upon approaching the countertop, the counter person thoroughly inspected the shoes, stated these shoes were dirty, worn, "molded to our feet", and unable to be RESOLD - not returned! She didn't scan the receipt, didn't hear what we wanted to say, and repeatedly tried to turn us down despite traveling over 30 minutes to this location. We were told to contact the mfg, despite having the 1-year return policy guarantee, and returning it after less than 6 months. We didn't want money, we didn't want to do a switch and bait, we just wanted shoes that wouldn't kill us. REI Arcadia refused our return, and we left honestly super disappointed and let down. BUT, REI Manhattan Beach (100 mile round trip!!) treated us way better, tried to help us get into equipment better suited for our needs, AND ACCEPTED OUR RETURN WITHOUT HESITATION. I came here to get my bike shifter and derailleur fixed and the bike shop workers were very communicative, knowledgeable, and kind. Depending on what your coming to buy, this place is a hit or miss. They carry quality gear in store but women's clothing apparel, it seems anything beyond XS/S can only be found and purchased online. Parking can be challenging on the weekends, more of a cluster. Staff..some are knowledgeable and can give good advice and recommendations on gear and apparel while others clearly do not want to be bothered. Overall, my experience here every time I come is meh. I like this REI store. It's close to home and love all the quality products. I'm in every other month or so and spend a couple grand a year. I can probably find the items cheaper, but I like the service. I'm annoyed with the new "no bag" policy. Twice this week I have spent over $500 and walk out with arms full of stuff, dropping items and throwing them in my car to eventually go all over the place. Bring back the bags! You're not the cheapest place to shop and not having bags will make me second guess shopping at REI.... When your people have to continue to aplogize to everyone for not having bags anymore it's a problem. read more

REI = Recreational Equipment, Inc. REI is a new shopping experience for me. I learned about REI from my Los Angeles friends who would describe great sales on returned merchandise and talk about what they bought from this store. I came to this interesting place in Arcadia because I needed an Adventure Pass to park at a hiking spot. Yes...paying in advance for parking... what a concept. Luckily, my friend, Mel B. gave me the heads up and my friends steered me to REI. Note: I did ask at one 7-Eleven if they had any Adventure Passes for sale and the guy was like me...what's that? There are certain 7-Eleven stores that participate and I didn't want to go to another one. Why not go to REI and check it out?! It's amazing! I guess that my camping/biking/outdoor life is limited. This store has everything imaginable for these pastimes. (Maybe it's like a Bass Pro Shop... I went to one in Las Vegas.) This store had sleeping bags (heavy duty type that we don't use in Hawaii), all kinds of bicycles, hiking shoes, exercise clothing, everything you need for camping, and more! It was rather overwhelming. I asked for the one day $5 Adventure Pass (the annual pass is $30). Service was efficient and friendly at check out, when I entered the store, and while I walked around. 5 Stars again? Really? Yes, Really! It is just always that good. I wasn't planning on buying anything, just stopping by to get some trail running shoes from my son. The experience just lured me into wanting something for myself as we are heading up to Mt. Baldy next week. In walks Matt P, or blonde Matt, as the manager referred to him as I gave a shout out. Matt had all customers in the shoe section taken care of, being attentive, informative, kind, but not pushy. Simply genuine salesmanship of products that he seems to know a lot about. When I thanked him for his amazing service and 2 pairs of hiking shoes later, he stated it trickles down from the awesome leadership and management of REI. How nice is that? I'm trying to give a compliment but Matt gives the compliment to others. Great guy, great service, and great store. I would travel far to receive the service extended by all at REI Arcadia, even if I lived closer to another. Let's face it. REI has the great products but it is the customer service that is the game changer. Support this company, it truly shows that they care about those who serve and those they serve! read more

This is one of those "ymmv" reviews. I was surprised by the level of service, especially on a weekend when the parking lot was full. I have a foot condition, plantar fasciitis. It's very painful and I'm tired of limping. I got some shoes at Lucha's in South Pasadena but they fit a little loose and I thought I would benefit from more padding. I know REI knows feet, I've heard many stories of good service. When we walked in we were greeted by Kelly who asked how she could help. Please see my photos of their sock selection, it's overwhelming. Kelly picked out 3 pairs for me to try on. I've never heard of trying on socks but it made perfect sense. Kelly also pointed out there's a manufacture guarantee and the REI member guarantee. Bottom line, I bought 3 pairs of socks and my feet feel better. read more

I went to REI to look at a specific backpack from Peak Designs. I called to see if they had one in stock. They did and the associate put it on hold for me along with offering a small discount because the one they had was scuffed-up. It was ready when I got there. I was unsure of the fit and went looking for a team member who looked like they would understand my fit issues. I found Cat who was amazingly helpful, knowledgeable and fun. He got me a pair of Oboz and said they were just for a foot like mine: Narrow ankle, high arch, and a wide foot bed." His recommendation saved my feet. I just realized this is the Planet Fitness of outdoor stores. Decent selection and no one is judgemental. I haven't tried the return policy yet. REI is totally activist. For DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) it totally needs a hunting department. REI bulk pricing on ammo would be great along with having an FFL nearby would be awesome. Otherwise, this is a store for folks to buy their Patagonia trucker caps and not have any dirt on their shoes besides from the parking lot. Not that I'm judging. read more

If you remember of REI, you could get items delivered to you if you see them online free. If you are going to the Bahamas and it's winter time, you will only find winter clothes in the REI. They have a nice selection of stuff and their returns are very easy to make. If you are a member, they keep a record of all of your purchases so you don't have to bring the receipt. read more

The Arcadia store needs to actually enforce their no pets policy. Was in there recently, two dogs start to go at it, growling, barking, pulling hard on their leashes. Employee in shoe department tells them both "no dogs allowed, you have to leave". One person leaves with their dog, the other ignores him and arrogantly stays. Come on REI ! Enforce your own rules. And no, they weren't seeing eye dogs or comfort dogs. Easier and less stressful to just order from Amazon for cheaper from my living room. read more

Really wanted to like them, on our first time there, we had great service and we really appreciated their help in finding the right shoes. My hubby has flat feet, his podiatrist recommend a Hoka ($140) shoe so we went to REI. Sales person told him his feet is better fitted for a pair of ALTRA ($250) and then tied his shoe lace in a pattern that is better for his feet. The Altra was almost twice the cost of the Hoka but was happy cuz hubby finally had a shoe specialist that recommended a shoe he would be comfortable in. At the check register, they upsold us on the $30 membership, said if we were "unhappy with the shoes for any reason, we can come back and exchange/return them." Sure, sounds like they stand behind the products they carry. One month later, the shoes fabric started tearing on the upper heel area. Took us about 1 week to find time to bring them in. Hubby approaches the check stand, was told they don't do returns/exchanges on worn shoes and to talk to the shoe people on what they suggest. He goes to the shoe area, the salesman (who was very nice) told him that was the wrong shoe and wrong way to tie it for his flat foot. ummmmm, ok...it was what was recommended by them on our first visit, laces tied by their salesman. He then recommended the Hoka's that the podiatrist initially recommended. He said he didn't have the specific size and to go up to check out and have them order it as replacement. Hubby goes up to check out and the lady told him she could not do an exchange/return. This is where it starts to get really sad. She started a barrage of gas-lighting and accusations: "You didn't put on the shoe correctly" - "wow! how many miles did you put on these shoes!" "You didn't tie the shoes correctly" "Look at the wear on the soles! How many miles have you put on these shoes!" - to which hubby replied, what wear? You can still clearly see the brand name and all thread pattern on the shoes. He's worn shoes his whole life and never has he been told so many rules on how to wear a shoe. Even worst, half her accusations was what the REI salesman on our first visit recommended and did for us. She told him these were not returnable due to the one month wear and that the type of shoe we purchased only had a 200 mile lifespan. We had no idea....never seen mileage life printed on a shoe. She accused my husband of everything he MUST have done wrong with the shoe in 1 month of normal daily wear. She also said the sides have a bit of dirt (the shoe literally looks brand new). I mean, he can wear it and walk through 1 unpaved parking lot and create the same dirt. He's owned many pairs of Brooks, Nike's, New Balances etc and none have ever torn like this on the upper heel. We were more than willing to pay for a new shoe but just wanted a good shoe that would last more than 1 month. Instead, the lady spent her time accusing us, gas-lighting us, all to get out of any responsibility for the shoe or their membership satisfaction policy. After wasting an hour of our time and creating such frustration for us, we just told her, look....Just let me know what you would like us to do. She kept ping-ponging us to the salesman in the back. Even the salesman told her the fabric defect is not caused by the way the shoe laces are tied or how hubby puts on or takes off the shoe. After much frustration and hubby feeling completely drained, he just asked her, ok, I'm just here to get this resolved. I need shoes that are comfortable and will last more than 1 month. Finally, she offered us a 30% coupon off for the Hoka's which we happily obliged to. They upsold us on some inserts too, lol! It's not about the money. We would have bought the second pair anyways had she just been nice and said, I'm so sorry it didn't work out but what I can do is offer you a discount on the second pair. Instead she accused us and gas-lighted us relentlessly to try to shame us just to get out of their seemingly "we take responsibility" policy. 1 month. We had the shoe for 1 month. Daily wear - probably 2-3 miles a day at most, he doesn't go to the gym. Just to work and home, normal everyday 1 month wear. We've never owned a pair of shoes that lasted for less than 6 months unless for some reason it was due to direct impact damage. We thought we found a place that would offer us tailored knowledge and help to get my hubby comfortable shoes. We understand its trial and error because of the flat feet but that lady ruined it for us every going to REI ever again. We've purchased so many without ever returning one - because never had one tore in the 1st month of normal wear. We came here based on their shoe knowledge, which was highly contradictory. Everyone will have their own experience and this was ours. Our advice is to stay away from the membership and don't trust that they will ever back their return/exchange policy without a brutal, mean-spirited fight by REI. read more

This store is a must-stop on our way to other travels. The day we arrived, they were holding something called a "Gear Swap." Pop-up shade structures dotted the parking lot, and people had arrived to sell the gear that they were no longer using. Buyers piled their new to them gear in wagons and under their arms while they browsed the merchandise. It was a fun kind of instant Swap Meet, and cleared the way for people to acquire new items. Inside the store, the dizzying array of goods makes it hard to focus, but my honey found the men's section, and selected a sporty new top. I browsed some of their more colorful goods, and was happy to see items from many all over the world in all colors of the rainbow. read more

BEWARE! ARCADIA REI SKI SHOP CHARGES MORE THAN OTHER REIs! You would think REI ski shop prices are universal at least in all SoCal locations, but NO! ARCADIA REI SKI SHOP CHARGES MORE THAN OTHER REIs! I am a REI member, and went in today for a regular ski hot wax, they charged me $25! And that's the membership price, non member is $31! I have called and confirmed all other REIs at Burbank, Rancho, and Tustin, all of them charge $16 for regular hot wax with member and $20 for non member. Even on REI's official website, it listed $20 for regular hot wax and $25 for premium, both non member. I showed the official REI's website price to the guy who helped me, and also told him other REIs are charging all the same as the website, but he still insisted on his own price. With less than $25, I can get premium wax! Apparently, Arcadia REI has been charging the higher prices since November! I didn't argue too much with the staff, I think they just lack of employee training. At the end, I went to a different REI. Got the same high quality service and my skis are done the same day! I went on Monday when it was slow and had the best experience of shoe shopping in my entire life. Kim was kind and helpful enough to spend over 40 minutes with me figuring out the right shoes for me. I told her from the beginning that the color of the shoes that I need for work would not be in stock so I'd have to order it online. I just want to try it out in store. Yet she was still willing to spend time with me to measure my feet and recommend the right type of model and size that would fit best for my hobbit feet. I work as valet and have to run 5-10 miles a day 5 days a week so proper fitted shoes are very important to me. I've always loved shopping at REI but my experience with Kim was something else. She also recommended me a very good insole as well to go along with it. I don't think she was even motivated by commission since I don't think the employees there earn sale commission. I hope this feedback/review would go back to her, her department and the store manager. She was excellent and her store is lucky to have her. You can return something if you are not satisfied within one year from the purchase. How amazing!!! Since I was here, I decided to browse the store. There is currently a winter sale happening with lots of discounts. Something I noticed this time is the great selection of REI national parks items. They have things like shirts, jackets, and stickers. I also really love that REI has a small section with Dog gear! They have collars, dog boots, and dog packs. Had received a knife for Christmas and wanted to exchange it for a different model. Went in and was greeted immediately by employee Eric E. Was super friendly and professional and we spoke about my options and walked over to knife area to see what was currently available in store. He ended up ordering me the color / model I wanted via online and have it shipped conveniently to my home. The whole time felt like minutes as sometimes returns can be this dreadful process and you always feel like employees hate it. That was not the case with Eric E. Just wanted to say thank you for above and beyond customer service and make me feel at ease. I'll be back again to get more goodies at my local REI. read more

I'm really disappointed with the quality of REÍ branded gear and their willingness to stand behind it. I stopped by today to try to get some help with a 4-5 year old rain coat that has maybe been used half a dozen times. The shell was in perfect condition. The issue was I washed it (following the instructions), and during the wash, the interior lining started to break down. Maybe 20% of it had been worn off, but all of it had cracked, making the jacket unusable as a raincoat. Not to mention that it left flakes of the liner everywhere. The woman I spoke to was very nice, but REI doesn't do anything to back its own brand after a year. Not even a discount on a newer model. Anyway, I left the useless jacket with them, and I will never buy an REI brand item again. This was not my first experience with the linings breaking down on their products. I would give them one star but the woman was very nice and apologetic (even though not helpful). read more

I had a really bad experience during my last visit on 3/10/22. I was there to return a ripped puffer jacket. The first sales rep I interacted with was a friendly gentleman who was quick to assist. We then got rudely interrupted by another sales person. Her attitude was extremely disrespectful and was blaming us for not following washing instructions.
