REI Manhattan Beach, CA has become my ultimate destination for all my outdoor equipment and clothing needs. I have been a loyal customer for years, and my membership has been a longstanding commitment. Whether it's getting my snowboard waxed, my mountain bike tuned, or simply shopping for clothing and hiking shoes, the staff at REI consistently goes above and beyond to provide exceptional assistance with a friendly demeanor. Today's visit was no exception. I took advantage of an outstanding sale and purchased a Thule roof cargo box at a remarkable 20% discount. Originally, my plan was to pick up the box curbside and install it myself. However, when the REI associate brought out the colossal box, it became evident that my self-installation idea might not have been the wisest decision. Perhaps sensing my concern or recognizing a fellow customer in need, Chris promptly informed me that, as a member, I was eligible for a complimentary installation. He assured me it would only take about 10 minutes. Chris was truly remarkable, providing a thorough demonstration of the system while efficiently and professionally preparing the roof box for installation. With our combined effort, we had it securely mounted within minutes. I cannot stress enough how highly I recommend this store. My friends and I came in, to look at hydros because we were thinking about getting new ones. My two friends and I are Latinos and we obviously have Hispanic features that you can easily point out that we are part of the Latino community. We were the only Hispanics. As we were looking at the hydros I caught a white employee man at the corner of my eye keeping an eye on us to see if we were stealing. One may say he wasn't but being a old navy retail worker for two years and who currently works there I know how these workers act when one thinks someone is stealing. This guy was "fixing" items that were already fixed and touching random things just to keep an eye on us. I DO NOT APPRECIATE THAT. ME, BEING PART OF THE REÍ MEMBERSHIP, I AM COMPLETELY APPALLED ON TODAY'S ACTION. And just outside they have a fundraiser for us Latinos. This REÍ is nothing but a bunch of racist people racial profiling their customers. Not only that but this lady who was their greeter I caught her eyeing our bag to see if we stole anything. I never once in my life ever felt discriminated for my race so fuck this REI. Fuck that bitchass greeter and the racist ass white guy. read more

Every single person I interacted with--from the front greeter to the mechanics in the shop--was incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgeable. I had some questions about my bike, and rather than talking down to me or rushing through explanations, the team took the time to break everything down in a way that was easy to understand, even for someone who isn't an expert. The mechanics in the shop were top-notch, not only fixing my issue but also giving me helpful tips to keep my bike in great shape. It's rare to find a place where customer service feels this genuine, and it's clear that everyone here truly enjoys what they do. I've been an REI member and loyal customer for years, but my experience at the Manhattan Beach location today left me genuinely disappointed. A young man named David (dark hair, in his 20s to 30s--working the register on the far right around 12:00pm) assisted my daughter and I with a return, and his attitude was rude, dismissive, and accusatory. He made assumptions about us, lacked basic courtesy, and made what should have been a simple interaction feel uncomfortable and unpleasant. It was disheartening to experience this kind of service at a store that usually prides itself on community, respect, and expertise. Management should really consider retraining David, because his behavior doesn't reflect the REI brand or promise that loyal customers have come to trust. I truly hope this feedback helps the team uphold the high standards REI is known for. read more

Things at all REI's have changed quite a bit over the years and it appears to be just getting worse and worse. They are carrying less and less variety of items as they are just selling more and more of their own Coop aka "generic" type of items. Their satisfaction guarantee as many other yelpers have noted is no longer true as any kind or return is extremely difficult and for some customers it seems impossible. Also their dividends program is horrible as in many case there are restrictions of when you can use them or when you can use them. I think REI is on the way down and out based on the way they are now vs the way they used to be. I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on as there is nothing there worth putting up with there lack of customer care. Maybe I will be back for the going out of business sale when it happens down the road... read more

Hands down one of my all time favorite stores! REI is pretty much a Dick's sporting goods but on steroids. Whatever outdoor sport your addicted to, they've got you covered...snowboards, skis, kayaking, rock climbing, camping, you get the point. It' not the fact that they have gear for all of those activities but more the fact that they have tons of options to choose from in each area. It's hard to find a place that's not online where you can actually browse different brands and styles instead of having one or two options to choose from because that's all the store carries. REI is a tad bit expensive but they're buying from the companies and selling it to you as cheap as they can. Internet sites can afford to sell similar products at a cheaper price but like I said, then you don't have the advantage of browsing, trying on, etc. read more

I love this store and their business model, well trained employees, great gear, cost a little more at times than amazon but this is one place where it is worth trying out the gear first. They size you for backpacks and weigh them down for you so you really get the feel of it. Plus if you are a member and have the REI master card the cost works out to be the same. And if the gear does not work out for you, you can just bring it back. Wonderful return policy there are terms you should learn about. I would rather buy my gear from them then anyone else. read more

REI Manhattan hates dogs. GO TO DICKS SPORTING GOIDD IN PCH INSTEAD. THEY LIVE CUSTOMERS AND DOGS. NO LIABILITY ISSUES. The guy at the door smugly asks what kind of service dog we have? It's 80 out and the dog will die in the car. He is trained companion. He told us to leave and we were not welcome. REI used to be a cool store. Now it's too good for the active customers who made them what they are. Let's pray the internet puts them out of business. Don't let them give you liability BS. I love going to REI in Tustin. The store is spacious and well-organized, and they've got everything you need for hiking, camping, biking, and more. The staff is always super friendly and knows their stuff, so they're great at helping you find exactly what you need. I really like how you can try out gear before buying it, and they also host some cool community events and outdoor classes. The store's easy to get to, with plenty of parking, and the REI membership gives you awesome discounts. Definitely my go-to place for outdoor gear. read more

As many of you know being stuck at home the past 6 months has left me craving the outdoors. So I have recently found a new identity in outdoor hiking and exploring the beautiful places all over California! If I could buy everything in REI I would. I got a great deal on a north face jacket there and I ended up getting a hat that didn't look so great on my when I got home so I went and returned it and it was easy as 1 2 3. REI has the best selection of camping gear I've ever seen. I got a tent, sleeping bag, pretty much everything I needed for my camping trip to Yosemite. I like buying my gear at a brick and mortar place like REI because I like to see and feel the quality of what I'm buying. REI charges a premium for good quality but its worth it, their stuff lasts forever!! read more

I've been an REI member for well over a decade and I've been to a lot of stores throughout CA and up to Seattle. This particular location is definitely more on the smaller side when compared to other newer stores and has been around for a while. They have a yearly clearance sale which is nice, but never really has much worthwhile gear. read more
