First visit! I have driven by this cheese shop for years. Much more than I expected. Coffee shop and deli inside. Free samples, specialty vinegar and Salamon sausage. Great cheese and a kind, accommodating staff. We came to Renard's with a large group on a family reunion. We called ahead to inquire about taking a tour and sampling some cheese and Franca was immediately helpful and enthusiastic. She prepared a presentation and just for our group and even handwrote us a thank you card with a list of things to do in the area and gifted us free cheese curds. This place is a tourist trap. We stopped on our way out of town. It was packed with people. You could hardly try the cheese samples because of rude children and parents shoving their way up to the front. It was a mad house. We waited in line for about two seconds to try and grab lunch from the cafe, but there were only two people working, and they were both busy making food and had no one to take orders. We did buy some beef sticks and cheese, which were good, but not really worth the trouble. read more

We bought the beer cheese soup mix. All I can say is, do you realize you are in Wisconsin? Should be beer and cheese flavor strong! I used twice the amount of beer recommended and it still didn't taste like (even faintly) beer, and the cheese flavor was lame. I've made better beer cheese soup at home. Terrible customer service! I was looking at an item and it was quite slippery and I dropped it. Whoops accidents happen, and before I even had a chance to pick the item up and offer to pay for it, a rude short older woman sales person screamed "you bought it!!" And ran over to me to point out the sign saying "you break it you buy it". I understand that is the policy of many stores and I wasn't objecting to paying for the overpriced little shot glass. But it was extremely rude to scream at me so loudly and run at me like I'm some criminal. It would appear they have a racket where they put fragile items on low shelves for children to break and then you have to purchase the item. I'll prefer to get my cheese curds elsewhere because that lady was ridiculous. She was intentionally trying to embarrass me in front of everyone in the entire store, why else would she shout at the top of her lungs like that? I'm glad I can purchase Renard's delicious cheese curds at other stores because I'll never patron this place again. I got a response from the manager at this store who said I was intoxicated and unruly. I was with my family and on the way to the airport, I was completely sober. This is completely ridiculous. I can't believe this place even responded with an "apology" like that. And she did scream at me. Other yelpers have even complained about the same thing. The managers here are very ignorant to the problem they have, or they ARE the problem. read more

Great stop!! If you aren't from WI you don't know what real cheese is like until you taste WI cheese. They give out samples and they have a small cafe with yummy cheesy goodies. We stopped on the way to sturgeon bay and had to stop by on the way home to pick up some great cheese. We had the grilled cheese there and it was better than many I've had in restaurants...I think the best. Everyone was friendly and answered all our questions. Bathroom are clean and have a cool scrub to sample as well. Overall a great stop for tastings and getting some goodies to take back home. read more

My family and I are long-time fans of Renards cheese. We are not fans of the new shop, peddling shot glasses, door county mugs, and other worthless crap from China. This place is nerve-wracking for anyone with young kids. They have said shot glasses and other breakables at perfect arm reach for small children, along with "you break it, you buy it" signs everywhere. It feels hostile. I spoke with a manager about this, suggesting that maybe they could keep breakables up higher, and her response was "well then, keep your kids outside on the playground." Customer service? We'll be back for the cheese curds and caraway brick cheese - but only barely after this interaction. read more

inCREDIBLE selection of "freshly" made cheeses, plus anything you'd want to go with them (sweets, meats, crackers, beer, wine, locally produced whenever possible). they've also got a large selection of imported cheeses to round out any plate. they have a large number of standard cheeses, plus a selection of house-made creative combinations. you can buy pre-cut selections, or order freshly cut at the counter. the staff is as friendly as the selection is incredible. for example, on this trip our group picked up cheese curds (squeaky cheese!), string cheese (best i've ever had), 10 year sharp cheddar (yes, that's TEN, not a typo), 6 year sharp white cheddar, feta with garlic and herbs, cumin and clove goat/cow cheese (omg tasty!)....and a few other things I can't recall. nothing has disappointed. the only issue I have with renard's is that our week-long vacation starts on saturdays. since it's not open on sundays, and closes saturday at 2, we don't get to pay our first visit until monday. read more

Wisconsin is full of cheese shops, but this one is the only one in Door County with local cheese (meaning from Door County, not somewhere else in Wisconsin). They have a huge variety of flavors - different herbs, different fruits, and of course cheese made with Door County cherries. They even had something called "chocolate cheese fudge" which sounded fascinating but we passed it up. They had about a dozen different cheeses out to sample, and opened up a few more bags so we could try some other flavors we were interested in. In the end we got the Cranberry cheddar, Morel & Leek Monterey Jack, and the Garlic & Herb cheddar. Plus a bag of cheese popcorn (they've got chocolate & cherry popcorn too if you like your popcorn sweet). Definitely cheese heaven! read more

Best customer service - very friendly! We have been to Renard's Cheese multiple times on our visits to Door County. Their cheese is delicious and affordable. The cheese curds are always fresh and all non-cheese products are also of good quality. Recently, we paid an unexpected visit. Our car got a flat tire and we coasted into the parking lot - they are THAT close to the highway. The Renard's employees immediately offered us a seat at their cafe (delicious egg and cheese bagels), their phone book, local knowledge of auto shops, a power outlet to charge my computer and any support we needed to contact AAA and get back on the road and to the airport on time. I couldn't have asked for more. Thanks to Gale and everyone at Renards. I am sending my sister to your store next week to buy more cheese - and of course we can buy online too! read more

It's on the side of the road kind of out in the middle of nowhere but well worth a stop to get some samples and some cheese for your Door County travels. The breakfast bagel sandwich was good, hot cider was a packet from the supermarket and not worth it. The cheese looked delicious, but we passed on buying any due to the lack of individual pricing on any blocks. Cheeses are labeled with a price per lb., and they have 2-D cutout shapes on the fridge doors of estimates of the size of different cheese blocks, but that seems like more work than just weighing and pricing the damn cheese blocks. I assume you are going to do that anyhow at the register, so why not skip the part where I also need a calculator and a kitchen scale to figure out how much a piece of cheese is and if I want it? Fail. Good products, but a display was too close to the flavored oils near the door. Glass bottles precariously sitting on a wobbly crate. I barely bumped it, a jar fell and broke, and the clerk said she had to charge me for it. Just to make sure I understood, she repeated it. 11.00 for their poor display!!! I was blown away by the selection and freshness of products available here. We stopped on a whim because we've discussed stopping 3 times before. We were glad we did. There are a couple non-Renards cheeses available here, but for the most part you're going to want the house brand. The cheese curds were the most delicious ones I've ever had. Warm and squeaky. Perfect amount of salt. Amazing flavor and texture. Eat the whole bag in one day, as curds never hold up. I also love their smoked string cheese. Really wanted to give them 5 stars due to years of enjoying excellent cheese. However, I had the unfortunate experience of ordering a 'deli' sandwich when the new location opened. Years ago, I had a friend with a Mother that did not cook. Frequently, she would attempt to make us sandwiches which consisted of two slices of discount white bread, old mustard, and a single slice of processed bologna made exclusively of industry afterthoughts. Sadly, eating a Reynard's Deli Sandwich brought back this disturbing memory. Aside from the paper thin piece of Renard's Cheese, the sandwich receives two thumbs way down. I would rather give 6 dollars to a homeless addict than purchase that sandwich again. read more

If you are on your way to Door County, make sure you stop by here to get some wine, cheese, or pancake mix for your stay. Then you can stock your the fridge with some nice items at the cottage you are possible renting. My wife and I stopped by Renards on our way out of Door County to check out what this place had to offer. I really thought it would just be a tourist trap, but it feel that way at all. It felt more like a small local corner store with a small spot where you can grab a quick bite. Sure they sold key chains and cheese hats, but they're barely noticeable. What caught my attention was they local wine collection for sale and the many different cheese flavors to choose from. We were properly greeted by the cashier when we walked in and was politely thanked for our business when we left. We plan to visit Door County again soon and would probably stop by Renards on our way in...and probably on our way out as well. read more
