Something went wrong with this place unfortunately, I used to eat here a lot it used to be great food, went back for lunch recently and it was very disappointing food not cooked well the shrimp was very tough also the veins had not been takin out so you could see the dark lines of waste, also you could tell the ingredients were not fresh at all, the fried rice was simply some steamed rice with a bit of egg and soy sauce in it didnt taste good at all, not sure what happened but I hope they can get it together read more

All the food seems quality and you can tell the ingredients are of higher quality then your standard Chinese restaurant. Also, the ambiance is very calm and quiet. Had been wanting to try Renee's for a while but the reviews about its costs compared to other Chinese restaurants kept me away. Well, went there last night after my acupuncturist recommended it and it did not disappoint! Delicious, so healthy, and my stomach didn't feel queasy afterwards from the grease--normal experience from a lot of the other Chinese restaurants. The won tons in the soup were delicate and the rest of the soup had generous portions of meat and veggies. The special dumplings and Uyghur beef were yummy. And loved, loved the brown rice. Renee may cost more than other places but it's because they use organic and locally sourced ingredients AND you can taste the difference! read more

We sort of stumbled on this place, partly because the decor and lighting seemed so inviting from the street. Walking in, we didn't know it was Chinese food; maybe it's better that way. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavor of the food. We had the Marco Polo prawns, the chicken with asparagus and mu-shu beef. It's high quality Chinese food, if you can imagine. All delicious! And the green tea was nice and hot. I would definitely recommend it. The service was solid, and the owner Renee came to check on us to see how everything was. I love Renee's Place We have been dining here for years and it never disappoints! We recently Met a couple of friends here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it ! We always start with the sizzling rice soup and onion pancakes. we also ordered the spicy beef with fresh basil,braised string beans,combination chow mein and orange chicken.The last seems like such a cliche but Renee's makes orange chicken like no other .The coating is so crisp and delicious ! While I don't think I'm going out on a limb saying this is probably really westernized Chinese dishes. I don't care I love the food here! As part of my goal to eat at every restaurant on Solano this year, I'm having lunch at Renee's. $9 lunch specials with an ap and entree, plus soup. Organic Chinese food, the light-colored carpet was an exceedingly bad choice given the food-bearing traffic, but all other decor is very tasteful and serene. There are four other parties here; half solo (so a comfortable place for the solo diner). Good was more fresh than many Chinese joints, but not amazing. Just fine. customer service was attentive and fast, and not overbearing. It is a peaceful place! read more

So many people told me Renee's was THE place to get Chinese food. We went on a Saturday night just before 8 PM and almost no one was in the restaurant...which was surprising to us. We were greeted and seated. We wanted vegetarian dishes and were happy to see Mu Shu Vegetable on the menu. We also ordered the Green Beans and brown rice. When the Mu Shu arrived, our server wanted to distribute the filling onto all four pancakes even though only 2 were eating at the time. However there was only about a tablespoon per pancake! So, we opted to make our own...1 pancake with a moderate amt. of filling. Since the filling is cabbage and relatively inexpensive items, it was surprising to have such a skimpy serving. The green beans & rice were delivered next. They were OK...had eaten at a Chinese Restaurant in SF recently and ordered the same dish done much better. I am disappointed that closer to home I cannot find Chinese food that is authentic and served up the way it is in SF and NY where I am from. This was a one and only time visit for us. read more

It's the only place I feel comfortable with the quality of the food, where she (Renee) uses organic vegetables whenever possible and quality, clean (no hormones, no antibiotics, etc.) meat and fowl. For this alone, I go to Renee's Place more than any other restaurant. It's a little pricey, but you pay for this quality. It's also one of the few places that doesn't get unbearably loud, and if you go early it can be very quiet indeed. I like that. Sometimes a dish will taste a little bland to me. One month later--our rating has dropped from 5 to 3 stars, which means Renee's is now a 4 star for us, but then what will happen on our next visit? Consistency is definitely what Renee's doesn't have. On our first visit the hot and sour soup was excellent--on the second it was vinegary and watery and sparse on the best ingredients. Did the chef forget to make it for Saturday night and had to stretch it out? The iron platter beef, which should arrive sizzling and in most places is well spiced, was also watery and almost flavorless. All we could taste was salt and pepper. Such a shame, because the meat was wonderfully tender. The sauce on the orange scallops was too thick and too sweet, and on our first visit that dish was a delight. Again, the poor waitress--unfailingly polite and efficient--had to handle most of the work herself. At a time when so many people are out of work, it's inexplicable that such a popular place is so poorly staffed. We'll give it one more try, but who knows after that? read more

All sarcasm aside, the food is tasty, but it's the prices that really prompted this bad review. $12 for 6 pot-stickers is totally ridiculous no matter what kind in ingredients they're using. We love, love, love Renee's Place. The food is consistently great - we've been going there for at least 10 years (maybe longer?!) We have our favorites (Orange Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Beef Chow Fun, Dry Saute String Beans, Marco Polo Prawns, Spicy Won Tons) and have to remind ourselves to order some of the other dishes for variety. They have a really nice, well priced lunch menu, where they serve the selections in a bento box. The atmosphere is warm, stylish and soothing with classical music playing (the owner is a classically trained musician from China.) The service is very good. Ingredients are mostly organic, free range and Niman ranch beef. I know of no other Chinese restaurant that cares so much about high quality ingredients. Renee, is very accommodating and will prepare gluten free dishes, for example, if asked. Take out is great too (Hint if you are sick: order the chicken won ton soup to go, it's a great substitute if you aren't up to making your own or if Mom's not around.) read more

Very disappointing. We were lured in by the promise of delicious, organic Chinese food, but Renee's didn't deliver. First off, there was a large party so we were virtually ignored for 15 minutes. We ordered an appetizer, 2 dishes and rice. While we were waiting they brought us tea--1 bag in a large pot. This turned out to be $2.50. The appetizer--their signature pork buns--were small, bland and more like dumplings. The first dish, tea smoked duck was pretty tasty but the second dish, eggplant in chili garlic sauce was nothing special and seemed overpriced for what it was. The kicker--we were charged $7.50 for rice. What??? Between the tea and the rice (which used to be free at most Chinese restaurants) we spent $10! With all the great restaurants on Solano, I wouldn't bother trying again. Kirin is certainly a better choice for Chinese. read more

First, I need to say, I never write restaurant reviews. Generally, I think people should find out for themselves whether they like a restaurant or not. BUT I ate at Renee's Place recently and it happened to be so incomparable bad, the worst Chinese food I've ever had in the SF Bay Area, that I felt compelled to warn people: stay away from this place. You will be totally dissapointed. Here's why: My wife and I ordered some pretty standard Chinese food: vegetarian poststickers, mooshu vegetables and the Iron Shrimp plate and brown rice, and this is what we got: The vegetarian poststickers tasted like a beef grill -- burnt and, yes, tasting of meat. Yes, vegetarian potstickers that tasted like burnt meat. Need I say more? ; then the mooshu vegetarian dish came. This dish tasted almost the same as the potstickers,a burned-grill flavor and the vegetables were sort of brown, not "lively" and colorful, generally my way to determine if vegetables are fresh. Next came the the iron shrimp dish and the brown rice. The rice was dry and tasted like it was yesterday's rice: clumpy, luke warm and just plain awful. How can you mess up brown rice!!! The shrimp dish, too, had the unmistakable burned grill flavor... just plan bad, though better then all the other dishes. The sauce was brown and tasted salty. There was nothing subtle, nuanced or flavorful about it. On the upside, the service was very good and the restaurant's decor was warm and inviting. But again, you don't go to a restaurant soley for the decor or warm ambiance. Last, Renee's place is expensive and the portions (for every dish) rather meager. Stay away from this Renne's Place or run the risk of being completley dissappointed with your dining experience. read more
