I found this group through my moving company. What a great idea! I have moved so many times and I absolutely hate assembling cardboard boxes. I also hate having to store or dispose of them. This was so easy! We were doing a local move and I had a few weeks of overlap where we had access to both houses. I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment. I got the 1 bedroom package, added 1 wardrobe box, 1 extra dolly , packing paper and zip ties. We did several trips before moving day taking 5 or 6 crates at a time and then unloading them and returning them. It made the entire move so easy. I think if I had cardboard boxes I wouldn't have done that. As a result of this pre-move work, I was completely unpacked within 4 days of moving into my new home. The zip ties are great for those really full crates (the ones the movers had to move). The dollies were a lifesaver. We did 3 wardrobe box trips in total. This is my third move with Rent a Green box. They were able to drop off the boxes for my old place at short notice and even let me have them an extra day before coming and picking them up in the most professional manner. Once you're familiar with their process, things couldn't go more smoothly. You call them, let them know how many rooms/stuff you're moving and a couple of days before your move you get these great boxes that make it easy for your to pack all your belongings safely. The movers arrive, smile because their job is so much easier and when you start unpacking you love the fact that your things are intact, easy to unpack. And you're not dealing with cardboard boxes everywhere! Added bonus: The boxes fit nicely into my car and I was able to do an additional run picking up small odds and ends that I left behind without making a mess in the car. Used Rent a Green Box/Rent a Moving Box for a recent move from L.A. to Orange County. Pros: -These boxes are sturdier than cardboard boxes. I got married recently, and felt really confident about putting all the fancy shmancy glassware we received into these boxes. (And nothing broke!) There's no tape/box construction required, and these boxes won't pop open or bust their handles. -These boxes come in different sizes! The other box rental companies I researched only had one size--and it was too big for heavy items. -They deliver to you and pick up from you--even if you move out of L.A. County! They were punctual and easy to contact regarding pickup/delivery. They also gave us the option of keeping the boxes an extra week for free, since a holiday weekend cramped their pickup schedule. -General high-five for partnering with EcoDykes. Be aware: -The boxes are heavier than cardboard, so you'll have to be more cautious with packing. -We used Geami to pack our breakables. It worked well, even though it looks a little unimpressive in person, but it is somewhat pricey for what you get. Things I wish they'd change: -The claim that these boxes are cheaper than cardboard doesn't really hold water with me. -I have a lot of books, and the smallest box was still too big to fill with only books. A smaller "book box" size would have made packing easier. -The box handles are uncomfortable to carry for any distance. -The Rent a Green box site says the delivery guys will walk through your place to make sure you have enough boxes; the company should either do so (they didn't, and we ended up being really short!) or take it off their webpage. -Their website is so cheery but the guys, while very professional, were really cold and laconic. That's fine and all, but I hope they're actually enjoying what they do as much as the company indicates they are! read more

What a concept! Not only did I not have to hunt down used boxes from behind various retail establishments (and eeeew, who knows where these have been!), I didn't have to spend bog dollar$ on new moving boxes either! Joe, Ryan and crew were very helpful and communicative from the beginning of the ordering process. They will tell you when they are an hour away from delivery at your old place, and pick up from the new place! Renting these boxes also encourages unpacking quickly. :-) I was even able to let a friend borrow a few of these boxes when I was done as to spread the recycling love! I didn't need to rent the dollies, but they did throw in the labels and zip ties at NO CHARGE! Rent a Moving Box makes moving easier - the boxes themselves and the customer service taboot. I never moved with these boxes before, but would definitely do it again. Their sales pitch is accurate - you rent the boxes, have them delivered at a day of your choosing within a 1-hour time frame!!!! Wow! And then they are in your home ready for you to pack. I spent a night a week packing 5-6 boxes until time for themove. And emphasis on PACKING! I was not spending an hour putting the boxes together, getting tape, fighting with tape. I simply opened them up, filled them, sealed, and stacked them. Time for the move they were in perfect condition. Also, my movers did not take an inventory of the items they were moving so the upside too was I knew exactly how many boxes I had rented and could easily count myself. Once we moved in - we unpacked super fast because there was no way I was going to rent them any longer. Another huge incentive in their business model - this forces you to unpack! Awesome! 3 days into a brand new home and we were 100% unpacked! The system is great, but all of it comes with great customer service. Joe and his team responded to my web-request for services within 2 minutes. I thought, hmmm, maybe they are just spammers. But no, they talked me through my needs and set up a delivery instantly with really good cheer. And when I emailed week later for more boxes and rip cords/labels, they were happy to do it and squeeze the delivery in. Pickup - a breeze. They knew we had a brand new home and they took extra care to carry each box out rather than use a wheel cart so that my new floors were not scuffed. Awesome. These guys have a good thing going and make moving easier. My movers were not thrilled with the plastic - they said repeatedly they like the cardboard more. Meh - they were moving boxes. Chalk it to their bad customer service/salesmanship when i said repeatedly we loved them and assumed made the move easier. Any rate - if you need to move - rent these boxes. Great service, communication, prices. These guys have succeeded in making moving cheaper, faster, and less messy. Plus, not having to assemble and disassemble cardboard boxes really cuts the packing time down. If you have a large amount of stuff to move, you'd be crazy not to use these guys. Great "green" way to move. They drop off the very sturdy plastic boxes at your old place, then pick them up from your new place. They were also the best priced company I found in the area for 50 boxes for a week. They're a little flexible on delivery and pick-up, but because they schedule their routes for the day ahead of time, the windows are somewhat small, which is good and bad. Good because you're not sitting around for 6 hours waiting for them, but bad because all their deliveries/pickups happen during normal business hours, so had to use a lunch break to drive home and let them in. However, if you're able to, you can place them outside your home, and they will pick up/drop off from there (provided they can access it without your presence). read more

Our move was right around the corner when we realized we didn't have boxes. Luckily we found the Rent a Moving Box guys and they were able to quickly schedule a delivery. They showed up right on time and we were able to start packing right away. It really took the pressure off of us and the movers appreciated how much easier it was to pack our stuff into the moving truck. It definitely was cheaper and easier to rent boxes than to buy them. We love the fact that we were helping the environment and not tripping over unpacked cardboard boxes after they came and picked them. We'll definitely use Rent a Moving Box for our next move, though hopefully not for a looong time - sorry Joe & Ryan. These guys are great! They were so friendly, answered all of my questions, and were unbelievably accommodating. I was worried that I was not going to have enough boxes and so they assured me I could always call them and they would work something out. Similarly, I work long hours and so their delivery times don't really work for me, but I was able to work it out that I could be home "early" for 5pm on the drop off and pick up days and they were more than happy to help me out. I have been spreading the word about Rent A Moving Box like crazy. Everyone at Rent a Moving Box was super helpful and accommodating...originally they were booked for the date that I wanted the boxes dropped off, but then they emailed me back giving me an alternative option with 5 of the XL boxes and 20 of the medium boxes which was perfect for what I needed. The boxes/crates were super easy to pack and heavy duty which was especially helpful for heavier items that I had to pack - so I didn't need to worry about the box breaking or ripping open. And they were easy to carry, move, and stack bc of the handles and it was nice not to have to worry about putting boxes together and breaking them down after. My only suggestion would be to give 2-3 zip ties for each crate versus only one tie with tag for each. The delivery, pickup, and overall service were top-notch and it was nice to be a little greener during my move...this service is a fantastic idea and Rent a Moving Box has outstanding customer service! ;-) read more

I can't recommend these folks enough to anyone who has to move. Forget scrounging for cardboard boxes. They deliver sturdy plastic eco-friendly moving crates in 3 sizes to your house, along with zip ties & labels, and pick them up when you're done (you decide how long to keep them when you first rent the boxes). They give you an assortment of 3 sizes (mostly mediums). The boxes were clean when delivered, and they delivered them right into my apartment. They came and picked them up inside the new apartment. The movers loved them - sturdy containers whose bottoms weren't going to fall out. They just took them by the stack onto a dolly. They definitely saved a boatload of time with the moving company, and since you pay them by the hour, it's well worth it. The folks here are super-friendly, and keep you informed by email & phone. They come when they say they are going to come. Customer service was tops! The web site is well-designed and very easy to navigate. The page which shows the various packages (1 BR, 2/3 BR, etc) is clear & well organized. You can also buy heavy-duty wrapping paper from them, as well as something called "geami", an eco-friendly packing material. They'll deliver it with the boxes. These guys get a 100% recommendation from me. I recommend them to everyone without hesitation. If you've got to move, do yourself a favor and consider renting moving crates from them. It isn't that expensive, it saves you the time of finding cardboard boxes, and your stuff is packed into sturdy containers, which means that there's less chance of any damage (after we unpacked everything, NOTHING was broken or damaged). Plus you save time with the mover. And, you don't have to throw away all of those used cardboard boxes. This is a win-win situation - you can't go wrong. Wonderful service! Delivery: right on time, rolled them right into my apartment. Boxes: No tape, no building boxes, no breaking them back down again, no gross box-dust on your hands! The containers are very sturdy, easy to pack, and stack easily. Because they're solidly built, my movers could easily stack them onto the dolly and move several at one. Pickup: Again, right on time. Had to move an office of 30 people and all of their files to a new place. I had read about green box rentals and was able to find Ryan and his crew quickly. They were very professional and way ahead of the curve on customer service. We rented 125 boxes and when they arrived I thought I ordered too many. We used every box. It would be great if the manufacturers of the boxes made one that holds hanging files so I wouldn't need banker's boxes. Not having a box fall apart at the seams or having cardboard all over the place when you are unpacking makes it worth the price. Big plus with the service is they drop off and pick up. read more
