They missed my recycling bin 2 weeks in a row and on the third week they only took half of my recycling bin, I called to get the rest picked up and they scheduled for the upcoming Friday. (Ours gets picked up Wednesday). They never came by, I called on Monday and they said they would pick up all the recycling that has been building up due to missed and half picks up and the missed Friday pickup on our next pick up day, they informed us to put it all in garbage bags next to recycling. The bulk pick up continues to get delayed without any warning. The items have sat on the sidewalk/curb for past 3 days and poses as major trip hazard. Neighbors complain and it is a nuisance. I arrange bulk pickup on 28 Dec. I called middle of day to confirm and was told they can pickup until7pm. No show I called again next day. They said they will arrange. No show. My neighbor put his junk on 30th and that was picked up. I called and service lady shouted at me. We mi yday but it's till7pm today. K but am leaving for vacation 1-9 Jan. no show called again. I left a message for a return phone call on Monday. I called back this morning to find out what I could do, because I wasn't able to put my garbage out for the Monday morning pick up. The lady who answered said that she sees a message was left on my phone, to leave my container out for a pick up this morning. I checked my phone messages, there wasn't a message on my phone for at least the last five days. I explained to her that I had no phone messages, she said "there was a message left on your phone." I then asked her how can she be sure that there was a message left on my phone, did you personally leave the message, she said "yes, I did personally leave a message for you on your phone." I have had other companies message me back and it was never this difficult to communicate. I called and left a message on Friday about my trash and didn't hear back. Republic Services is unbelievably corrupt company and is surely in collusion with Fremont city on this level of corruption otherwise their contract will not be renewed year after year given all these bad reviews. It is the executive team which is corrupt and highly incompetent that their policies and web applications does not provide any information. I scheduled my bulk pick up twice and was given 3 months advance date but no reminder or no information online so you have to do all this work for them. Who knows if bulk pick was ever scheduled or their application removed it. Shame on executives of this company and Fremont city officials who renew their contract. My review has nothing to do with customer facing employees, the executive team is responsible for providing these tools. Their support line says go to online for quick support but no information and no way to schedule bulk pick up, and same message is there for the last 2 years. This is the level of corruption and incompetency, unbelievable. If we customers are able to choose our own garbage pick up company then we can get much better service at same or lower price. SHAME! It's unfortunate to not have another choice. I have only moved in for 4 months, and the amount of problem with Republic is amazing. - Often only half empty the trash bin (no matter how loose the items are) - Trashcan lay flat on when I am back, sometimes deeper into the road. We are on a wide unpopular road so it's not too big of a problem. - Missed "missed pickup" pickup. (Maybe need to add a third one tomorrow.) Looking through Yelp, it looks pretty typical. Actually, I am not sure if it's missed, or just so poorly dumped that the trash did not come out. (I was pretty sure the stuff are loose enough.) The truck for recycling is pretty good (even when the items are packed tight), the compost truck is generally okay too, occasionally drop the bin on the ground, no big deal. It's the trash truck that I am annoyed the most about. Are we sure about the 99.9% reliable rate? At least doesn't look like that to me. read more

I'm upgrading my prior 3 star review to 5 stars after speaking with a Republic Services Route Supervisor. Earlier in the morning a pickup driver for paper/plastic recyclables damaged the lid of my gray bin beyond repair and deposited the bin on its side beside the street. One hour later the driver picking up my green bin left half of my compostable recyclables lying in the street but at least the green bin was left upright. The Route Supervisor arrived at my home less than an hour after that and quickly shoveled the spilled green materials up and placed them into a bin. He also exchanged the damaged gray bin with a brand new gray bin that he had in the bed of his pickup truck. He promised to follow-up with each driver and provide feedback to them to prevent issues like this in the future. Excellent follow-up in resolving these two issues. Every company/person has problems and it is how we resolve these problems and provide constructive feedback into the system to improve future customer experiences for others that really matters. Kudo's to the Republic Services Customer Service team and Route Supervisor. I stopped by Republic Services of Alameda County to take my mom there to signup for the special senior rates available for customers age 70 and over who qualify. There were a few customer parking spaces available, and it was a short walk to the office. When we came in, we stood at the front desk for a few minutes as the receptionist was really into her keyboarding task, and ignored us. Finally she asked what we were here for, and I explained the situation. A form was handed to mom, she filled it out, and was asked for her ID and a copy of a current utility bill. She had brought her old garbage bill along, but was told she needed another proof besides that. Fortunately she had some pension paper in her purse that sufficed. So if anyone else plans to go signup here for the discount, be sure to bring something like a phone bill or PG&E statement, or else you may have to make a second trip here with the correct documentation. read more

It's hit or miss when it comes to customer service. Firstly, on line requests for missed services does not work so you have to call. A previous request to replace a garbage bin that fell into the truck was replaced relatively quickly. A missed recycling collection still hasn't been collected after a few days. Not sure what else to do. 5/21 - Follow up. RS missed my recycling again last week, 2 out of the last 3 weeks. I called the next morning. No action taken that day or the next. Called after the weekend and their system says that the bin was collected last Friday. Not true. Oh, and I found out that if you want credit for a missed pick up, it has to be done 48 hours after the event. So no credit is possible. Recommendation to those with missed pick ups in the future, call immediately and follow up every day. read more

Just moved to the area this past week and called on 8/23 to put the trash service in my name. I spoke to a representative that stated we were good to go since I already had the barrel sizes I needed. Yesterday during their pickup they took all my trash barrels away and didn't give any explanation as to why. My neighbor across the street saw them doing this and pleaded with them to leave the barrels, informing them that I'd just moved in. The driver wouldn't bother to listen or reconsider his actions. Just took them away. I called customer service and informed them that I had spoken to someone on 8/23 and setup the service in my name, and asked them to please bring the trash barrels back ASAP since I just moved in and have lots of trash that I now can't dispose of anywhere. The girl on the phone was apathetic AF, and literally suggested I just leave my trash bags in the garage (cause that won't smell or anything) or on the side of the house (you know, to attract the critters). She wouldn't/couldn't tell me why the barrels were taken, only that they're "sorry for the inconvenience." Paraphrasing her exact words: "We've done all we can do, but we'll give you a couple extra trash bags for you to use and bring the carts back next week. We're sorry for the inconvenience but it's just impossible to get the trash barrels to you before the pickup next week." I called again and spoke to a friendlier girl, who was a bit more helpful. She said the former owners put in a cancellation, which was allegedly missed by the person that setup my account. As a result the drivers were informed to remove the barrels. I have tried to get a hold of a supervisor twice to escalate this, but, have not received a call back. When you're a public utility and the only game in town you can pretty much get away with treating people like this since there's no other option for trash service. UPDATE: I finally got in touch with a supervisor who said that despite the fact that their office is only a couple miles away, there was no way they could deliver new barrels. One reason that was quoted was "the unions" and another reason was because "no one has time to make a special trip before the weekend. Our trucks are already out." I have also learned that despite the fact that I am officially a paying customer, the trash barrels were removed because the former owner hadn't paid their bill. Despite the fact that I have already started paying for this service, they still "need to protect [their] assets" and recover the "unpaid for" barrels. I asked "why don't you deliver the new paid for barrels at the same time you remove the old unpaid for barrels" and the answer I got was as dismissive as it was tautological: "because this is just our policy." They are giving me one week's credit and re-delivering new barrels in 3 days time while my new house smells like kitchen trash. Welcome to Fremont, CA! read more

I ordered dumpster on June 28th by paying $471, the dumpster was supposed to be delivered on July 1st, I made multiple calls and I haven't received dumpster until now(07/14). Our first poor experience with Republic Services after having used them for years. Moved into a new home 3 weeks ago and called Republic services couple weeks ahead of time to start garbage service at our new place in time for our move. We are still waiting on our trash cans and recycle bins. After multiple calls to them and multiple promises to deliver the bins to us, we are still waiting, trash piling in our new house. Any home owner that went through a recent home change would know garbage services are key when you shift homes. Disappointed that Republic services contributed to a huge part of our stress while moving. It has been 3 weeks, we are still waiting and calling them every day and I am sure we are being charged for a service we have not been provided yet. I tried to start services at my new home in Fremont, but we cannot get bins from Republic Services. It's been about a week and every day, we are told the bins have been scheduled for delivery for that day. We still have not got them. The customer service help tries to be helpful, but there is not much they can do. They apparently tried to contact Operations but were given wrong dates and they just never called back. I have no idea when we are going to be able to get bins or use the service- it'll be at least 2 weeks overdue of garbage piling up. If your city is considering a contract with this company, tell them to go with some other company. This how they leave your trash bins after pick up. I paid just under 600 dollars for a delivery of a dumpster to my residence. It was promised the next day. They immediately took my payment...(only thing they have done up to this point (3 days later) the dumpster didn't arrive the next day. I called and spoke to someone who said I didn't sign the contract correctly (I did...it's docusign...pretty hard to mess that up) I guess if I hadnt called they would have never corrected it but kept my money?! They resent the contract and said it won't be delivered till the next day now... And they uodraged my case to the nexteverl. The next level guy assures me he woukd fix the issue and call me before the end of the day to update me. He never calls...shocker. The next day comes (friday) still no dumpster. I call and they said they don't know why all the "hiccups" have occured. They re-send me the same contract (I've signed numerous times at this point) and still no dumpster. Worthless company that just charges you a ridiculous amount but fails to do their damn job. I have on many accounts had my bin NOT emptied. The first time, I contact them and it took 6 days for them to come back, a day shy of our normal pickup day. Despite them telling me to leave it out and it will be done the next cycle. Learned my lesson and just waited when it happened again and again. This past week, my recycling was full and I still have boxes waiting so I called them when they didn't come. Was told the same damn line and sure enough, no one came back for it on the next business day. These monopolies need to be removed. Their services are City mandated, so a resident has no alternative in choosing a garbage company. Republic Services is the most unreliable company - we have to subscribe to all 3 services such as Trash, Recycling, and Compost. While the Trash bin and Recycle bin are picked up on the scheduled pick-up day, or within the next day, our green Compost bin gets missed each and every week. One has to call them each and every day during the work week in hopes that they will dispatch someone to empty the bin, but to no avail. In some instances they would come 5 days after the scheduled pick-up day, many times they do not show up for nearly 2 weeks. Requests to speak with a supervisor or manager go unanswered - no one calls back, no one comes out to empty the Compost bin. All calls to Republic Services get routed to an outside call center, and all those operators can do is apologize, apologize, and apologize - but the problem does not get resolved. Maybe one way to get their attention would be to bag our compost materials and drop them off at their headquarter doorsteps. Maybe if enough bags pile up they would get the message. The City of Fremont and Republic Services appear to be running a monopoly-type operation with no alternatives for the client. Horrible Company! I called 3 weeks ago to start service as I just moved to Fremont and called 3 days in row 3 times per day and was hold for over 1 hour. When the person finally answered she was so rude, and sounded like she was half asleep. I asked to start services the same week and my trash/recycle has not been picked up for the last 2 weeks . This is ridiculous and like I said, I just moved so I have quite a bit of trash and will now have to go pay to have it dumped as it is adding up.
