That had a limited amount of lovely breakfast sandwiches tho - if you were there early enough. I booked a 2 room suite for my family to stay in on our way through town. We have a 2 year old and a newborn. After seeing the rooms, I wanted to leave. I understand it's summer so you might have a bug or two but there's a carpet beetle infestation. They're crawling on the sofa, on the walls, through the vents. It looks like people killed some of them and just left the carcasses on the wall. Makes me wonder if this room was even cleaned. The couch has holes all over it. I recently stayed at the Residence Inn in Durango for a week with my family. While the property is a bit on the older side and that can be seen in the facilities, the staff is WONDERFUL and did so many things to ensure a wonderful stay. We spent four days here while we explored Durango and Silverton. Our two-bedroom suite had a small kitchen with a microwave, full-sized oven and almost-full-sized refrigerator/freezer. The beds were comfortable and maid service came every other day to refresh our towels and bedding. The daily breakfast was what we needed--scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage (depending on the day), make-your-own waffles, yogurt, oatmeal, breads, coffees, etc. The location was perfect. It was well within walking distance of downtown Durango, and my cousin and I walked along the trail and bridge as often as we could. One of the showers was very leaky, and the TV was in a strange position in one of the rooms, which made it difficult to watch. Also, we would have liked to see dresser drawers in the bedrooms. There were drawers in the nightstands, but they were too small to hold much. Since we were there for four days, it would have been nice to unpack. read more

We booked 2 months in advance and were notified by email the afternoon of our checkin that because of a "surge" in demand they were moving us to the Holiday Inn across the street. We had booked a 2 bedroom suite and had to ask for separate bedrooms at the Holiday Inn. (They were putting us in one room with 2 beds.) I was going to let it go, but then we then received credit card charges from both hotels. Needed a home base to roam the mountains and explore. He upgraded our room to a two bedroom suite which was nice. Kitchenette and sitting room with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. King sized beds. One bathroom had a shower and one a tub. No view to speak of except of the roof and other rooms. It was nice having the option to cook. They provide cooking ware, utensils and serving ware. Dishwashing items as well. The check in associate was friendly and cheery. There is a business book with two computers and a printer. A convenience section with snacks, beverages and essentials. A workout room and pool and hot tub. A patio area with warmers, gas fire pit and bbq to relax at. A tennis court with a basketball hoop at one end. You can also do laundry in the guest laundry room. The elevator is so slow. My advice is to take the stairs. There are different ones and multiple entrances/exits. Breakfast is served from 6.30 to 9.30am in the dining area opposite the check in counter. I appreciate that they post the name of the manager on duty at the front desk. Parking is a little tight but we managed as they had fewer vehicles than guests. We had time to sit in the hot tub to relax after a day of exploring and enjoyed sitting in the patio area as well. Breakfast was average - eggs and sausage or bacon, yogurt, fruit, bagels, toast, cereal, oatmeal and waffles. The waffle maker corner was interesting. Beverages as well. The servers were nice and there's a basket to give them a tip. Same as the other hotel we stayed at you can hear the footsteps of the guests above you. The bed was comfortable, not quite so fond of the pillows - too soft. It was nice having a hair dryer, iron and ironing board. And the room had a smaller extra closet in the entrance way as well. The blackout curtains helped us sleep in. And we could continue watching our movie from the living room to the bedroom. And the gas fireplace was an added bonus. Bathroom shower had extensive mold and the ceiling in the main living area were stained. Window view was to the backside of an unattractive cliff. Front of the hotel is a busy highway. One of the worst hotel experiences I've had in recent memory. I am a Lifetime Platinum Marriott member so this review is based on me staying in a lot of hotels. From the unwelcoming checkin to the room, this hotel does not meet Marriott standards. Quick list of reasons I wouldn't stay here again: unwelcoming checkin, no hangers in any closets, no hand soap, food left in the refrigerator, creepy stains on sofa, dusty/dirty sink area, elliptical in gym so old the buttons are worn out, the elevator is broken. I considered calling the front desk about the room but after the unwelcoming checkin, I knew it would be a waste of time. I regret that I used my travel points on this place. I realize it is not a 5 star hotel but come on, have some basic standards. I mean we can't even sit on the sofa, it's gross. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. read more

I stayed here in the summer with my family during early July and it was a very comfortable stay with super friendly staff, perfectly working air conditioning in the room and comfortable as is throughout the whole hotel. Everything in the kitchen was up to expectation. Very clean, amazing breakfast, I loved it just as much as I loved the Durango area! Hope to be back here someday! Also there were some very minor problems with the room that weren't really an issue such as one window having slightly cracked glass. It wasn't an issue for us because it wasn't cracked open or anything but it was there. Secondly, the shower door would keep sliding open on its own and we had to hold some towels there to close it when needed but I mean these were very minor issues which we could easily adjust to so I still loved the place! read more

SO! I stayed in Durango, Colorado this weekend at Residence Inn after my camper broke down and my brother had to drive down from Denver to pick me up. Didnt arrive until 430am, I woke up at 12:10pm to a "Director of Engineering" banging on my door wearing a Superman shirt, smelling like cigarettes, and 3 teeth in his meth riddled mouth telling me I need to leave. I told him I have a 4pm checkout, I showed him the app... 10 minutes later he was banging on my door... my brother was helping me gather my stuff to his car, but when I opened the door he was with the Sergeant of Durango Police Department. I told the police officer what had happened and he said I could stay as long as I wanted after showing him the T&A, but told him we were leaving out of respect for his job... same cop came again, but next time to save me from being harrassed from Colorado State Police Department because Superman Engineer Meth guy wanted to call 911 a 3rd time and the Sergeant had heard it over the radio (very small town)... also, please note he shoved my brother into the elevator wall trying to get him to fight him AND he spit on my brothers car while outside smoking a cigarette blowing smoke in his face. What would you guys do? PS: Bathrooms had no amenities and I was denied my service request via my app! PPS: Was told I could receive 40k of the 50k points or I could wait for an escalation and a call back. I denied point as that was very disrespectful, and I have a few million still.. read more

This is a hard review to write. I travel often and I am loyal to Marriot, but man this hotel is NOT up to the standards that I am used to! There were some highlights to be fair, but overall I was disappointed. Let's start with the good. I was coming into town for 4 nights with a party of 4 so we were looking for something in town with separate rooms and this hotel did have the large 2 bedroom suites with a kitchen and pull out sofa, two bathrooms, and a large living room! It was a very reasonable price and a great size room. We had more than enough space and that was a big plus! The hot breakfast was great, but the options were limited to eggs and bacon every day....I get that things had to change with the typical hot breakfast due to covid, but it would have been great to change it up a little. That being said the service for breakfast was great, the food was hot and the portions that they packaged for you were large and filling. The breakfast staff was friendly and kind. The only negative with breakfast was the lack of options. The location was great and close to town and everything we needed to be near. We had decided to book an extra night at the last minute, and the front desk staff saw that we had two separate reservations and joined them together so that we didn't have to move rooms which was very kind! Now for the bad! The kitchen was filthy when we got into our rooms. Thank god that we brought our own Clorox wipes as we had to clean sticky counters, dirty stoves, and crusted tables. The worst part of the whole trip was the money aspect. For our 4 nights, our total should have been $571.88. I gave them my card at the beginning of the stay and they ran my card twice to authorize both rooms even after we asked the front desk person if it was too late to change to another card. so to start off the trip I have $300 authorized on my card for the room. Every day from that point I received a new authorization on my card, and my girlfriend had the same issue on her card. On Day 2 the hotel authorized $320 on day 3 they authorized $130. At this point, I called down and asked why they had authorized $750 on my card and the front desk receptionist couldn't explain what happened. She told me if we pre-settle the room I wouldn't have any additional authorizations and the pending ones would fall off. So I pre-settled, and on day 4 I now have an additional two authorizations for $150 and $273.94. Not a single one of these charges makes sense to me as I have now had the hotel hold a total of $1,173.94 for a room that should have cost me $571.88. This is money that we did not have available for our trip that we were counting on. This not only happened to me but my girlfriend in another room. I travel frequently so I KNOW that hotels authorize or hold funds prior to the stay but I have NEVER had this much held and an authorization run every single night of our stay. I am praying that everything equals out to the correct amount, but the front desk staff can only tell me that it will take 3-5 days before everything clears/is released. I loved the size of the rooms, the breakfast, and the location, but because of the cleanliness issues, and the way they are just charging my card I don't think we will be back! I am so disappointed in this Marriott as this is not the service that I have grown to expect from their company! read more

Good hotel, especially for families. Me, my wife, and my three children, 20, 18 and 14 stayed here for four nights from 12/23/12 through12/27/12 and we had a great stay. Breakfast was good every morning. I would have given my stay 5 stars except for the fact that the beds are not very comfortable. My family stayed at a Double Tree on 12/22 and the beds were excellent. We stayed at a Holiday Inn on 12/28 and we had great beds there too. The Residence Inn in Durango needs better quality mattresses in their rooms. Another minor issue is that the WIFI was not reliable and it was slow. Each time you come back to the hotel you have to log on the WIFI network. This isn't an issue if you're staying for one night, but it when staying multiple nights. The Residence Inn needs to improve its WIFI coverage within the hotel. Overall, we would stay there again. read more

We couldn't even watch a basketball game on ABC, same for NBC and CBS - the TV would black out saying "no connection" every 2 minutes for about a minute. But we could watch AMC without interruption. Also the air conditioning fan in our suite was so loud it woke me up many times when it turned on. This hotel had some great things going for it but, also some really bad. The size of the room for the cost was really great. We had a 2 bedroom suite w/kitchenette. It was nice since we stayed for 4 nights. However, the kitchen was dirty. I'm so glad I had clorox wipes & lysol with us. I had to wipe down EVERYTHING in the kitchen before I could even make a cup of coffee. Which the coffee maker was broken & I had to make due. There was splattered food on the refrigerator & the counters were sticky. I had to clean up the bathroom prior to my family using it. We tried to enjoy the fireplace however, the sofa in the room was dirty & had holes in it. I hate to keep going w/negative comments but, the billing was ridiculous to say the least. The total charge for my stay should've been. $571.88. However, I was being hit with charges every single night we stayed. I had pending transactions over $1000. If I didn't have another credit card this could've ruined our family vacation. We checked out 4 days ago & I have been charged $571.88 (which is the correct amount)plus I still have pending charges that total $450. Now to end on a positive note, the breakfast staff was very accommodating & friendly. They served very generous portions. However, its bacon & eggs every day. The hotel location is very convenient & the staff did apologize for the mistakes. The manager did also upgrade our room for the 1st night so we didn't have to change rooms since we did add an extra night to our stay at the last minute. We are planning a trip back to Durango & we will not return. This Marriot did not live up to the standard of other Marriott hotels I have stayed at. I have become a fan of Residence in and this location is no exception. The room was clean, current and very comfortable. I enjoy having the kitchen, and family room separate from the sleeping area. It makes it feel like home. The couch in the room was large and comfortable so that was a big plus. The bed had signature Marriott bedding so it was comfortable and provided a nice nights rest. The staff was nice and efficient at check in as well. The location is just a little ways from the historic downtown, but this makes for a very quite stay. We had a great experience and would certainly come back again. The breakfast was really good. There was a little more attention to detail than I see at most Marriott free breakfasts. There were scrambled egg whites, the potatoes were doctored up with sausage, onions, and peppers and tasted great. The staff were very pleasant and I was glad that I did not make the decision to go out to eat somewhere else. read more

We considered a VRBO nearer to the ski hill, but instead chose this residence Inn in Durango. For the same price as the VRBO, we got 5 bedrooms, 5 baths, and 4 kitchens. The 2 bedroom suites are very comfortable. The pool was great for the kids and the hot tub was actually hot (which rarely happens in motels). The staff were really great, particularly the breakfast bunch who where so willing and happy to help. There was a glitch with my bill which was quite complicated, but in the end they made it more than right. The only disappointment was that the walls are very thin and since it was the week of Christmas, it was very noisy all night. read more

The Residence Inn, in itself, was ok, about what you'd expect, the bad review is based on the fact that we booked the room because it was pet-friendly as well as being a suite, so an extra room so we can put our child's pack-n-play up and put her to bed before us. When we checked in we saw signs everywhere about a $75 non-refundable pet fee, which I'd scoured the website to check for a pet fee and hadn't found one. That's an outrageous fee for a hotel that's only about $100 or a little more per night. I guess there are some unresponsible pet owners who bring in nasty, flea ridden dogs that aren't house trained, but I'd guess that most of us who love our dogs enough to bring them on trips have clean, house-trained dogs, it suddenly makes a doggie-daycare seem cheap compared to a $75 hotel just for the dog's portion. read more

I am Marriott Platinum Elite, which I'm not saying to be a miss snotty-pants, but to point out their service for Plats. I requested and booked a studio king room with feather-free (allergies) and near the elevator (lots of luggage, gear, computer). I was upgraded to a one-bedroom king, which was nice, but I was as far away from the elevator as you can get - and on the third floor, meaning I couldn't just walk in the door from the parking lot with all my stuff. That was VERY annoying. And my room was not feather-free, which is supposed to be guaranteed when requested in advance. My ice maker did not work, at all. I had to call the front desk, and she brought me ice from I don't know where in a ziplock baggie. I had to do this every time I wanted ice, because there is no ice machine for guests. The internet was awful. Even the "premium upgraded" internet we Plats get for free. I had so much trouble with it, it was frustrating. Most of the time at hotels, I can stream no problem on the upgraded internet, but not here. So don't actually pay for it! It was clearly outdated and only partially upgraded. The cabinetry in the bathroom was peeling and such, with the actual shower/toilet room very small. I liked the large counter by the sink. Housekeeping was subar. They did not clear away or wash dirty dishes, so I ended up having to do it myself, as this was an extended stay I needed more than the 3 cups they had in the cabinet. I'm sure there are much more quaint/cozy places to stay in Durango, but this was a last-minute trip (booked the day before arrival) and I can always count on the government rate. Ended up getting a King Suite, which is set up like a 1br apt, for under $100. Brought the pup which incurred a $75 (one-time, regardless of # of nights) fee. Couch folds out into a double, TVs in bedroom and living area with nice kitchenette with a full-size fridge, microwave, oven, and range. There's a very complete breakfast (free) that has a waffle maker, some hot food (Eggs, sausage, etc.), cereals, yogurt, parfaits, and plenty of fresh fruit. They have an indoor pool with hot tub. If you're looking for a known quantity, you can't go wrong here. If you've got a military ID then you'll be in even better shape with the government rate. read more

For $239 a night plus tax you can do way better in Durango. Our first issue was with the "Suite" we checked into upon arrival. As far as I know the very definition of a Suite means you will have a bedroom that is closed off from the living room area. Not so at this hotel, our Suite just meant the kingsize bed was about 10 feet away from the pull the sleeper sofa. For $239 a night this was really a disapointment for my wife and kids. When we brought up this issue to the front desk staff and the Hotel Manager, they were very contrite in addressing the issue. Breakfast buffet was okay but they close it down at 9:30am. That's a little too early for my liking when I'm on vacation. If we come back to Durango I will more than likely end up at the Double Tree or Comfort Inn. Residence Inns are usually toward the top of my list when picking a hotel. A lot of that has to do with the extra space you get for about the same price of a standard hotel room. My recent visit to the Residence Inn in Durango did not disappoint. The hotel appears to be just a little dated from the outside, but the rooms appear to be newly renovated. With that said, the renovations were already showing some wear - knicks on the new furniture and the carpet in my 2 bedroom suite was already frayed. The new wallpaper in the hallways was already scratched up. There was also a weird choice for carpet in the hallways. Who picks a hotel because of the hallway carpet anyways? All of the above was very, very minor! More importantly - the room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Even better - we had one of the best free hotel breakfasts I've had. The breakfast attendant was super friendly and very attentive. I think the hotel offers a fitness room as most Residence Inns do. However, I decided to skip the exercise room and took run on the scenic greenway along the Animas River. It's a quick walk/run down the sidewalk from the hotel. Making a stop in Durango? Update - after doing my review as we were leaving the hotel we arrived home to find we left my husbands pillow ( my husband has an attachment to his pillow much like a 3 year old with their passie or blankie ) so a meltdown ensued, I promptly called the hotel and begged they check our room , they called back and it was found and safe I said please dear lord overnight me the pillow the staff was so courteous and understanding they must have literally left as soon as I called because I got it the very next morning .... Pro: Clean rooms, well-kept, typical Marriott Residence Inn quality, short walk on sidewalks to town. Pet friendly, despite other reviewers who find that words hurt them (in addition to sticks and stones which may hurt your bones); yes the $75 pet fee is onerous for a one night stay, but not too onerous for a multiple-night stay. Yes there are signs on exterior doors indicating you must have permission to bring in your pet. Yes, the web site is lacking in details on the pet policy, but buried in there it does indicate there is a $75 fee- if you happen to surf to the right page. Despite one reviewer's claims, Marriott is not actually a pet-friendly chain. Generally Marriotts are no pets allowed, so I appreciate being able to bring our pup to the Residence Inn. I may be mistaken, but I believe Hilton is the pet-friendly chain. Con: Located right on 4 lane 55 mph Hwy 160-- loud, with heavy traffic most of the day and early evening. Sidewalks to town are literally right on the edge of the highway- making it a bit intimidating to walk to town. Marriott is fairly liberal with their use of the term "high speed internet"-- it took me roughly 60 seconds to download this Yelp page over the hotel connection. While I'm sure "high-speed" is relative, this connection really only counts as high speed if you've been living someplace where you're stuck with a 14.4 kbps dial-up connection (Siberia, maybe?). Don't count on using the high speed connection here to remote in to your desktop and do work. Some other notes: Construciion appears to be completed (from 2012 review). Trashcans are under the kitchen and bathroom countertops- open the lower cupboard drawers. Hallways are well-illuminated. Our room was not stinky. read more
