Our first evening in Charleston was memorable because of the exquisite meal at Revival. The ambiance of attractive lighting and a cool music vibe gave this elegant venue a youthful, casual feeling. Our server, Brian guided us to the dishes that are unique to this restaurant and a special Charleston experience. Do you have a question? Recently went to your establishment on Thursday 10/15 and won't be back! It was very warm in your restaurant at 6:30 as we ask if the air if could be set down . A tall gentleman dressed in black approach our table and ask Do you have a question? We said we have a request could you adjust the air down as it's warm . He said down as if we should have said up. And proceeded to say it set at 72 and we had no other complaints. We told him a lady at door waiting for her party was fanning herself & we are both warm. It was almost as though he wanted to argue instead of saying let me see what I can do. Can't tell you how the food was as that of course just was a bad experience for our evening. Came here on Christmas Day for dinner because everywhere else was fully booked. Too bad they only had the fixed menu. Because of the crowd, it was slow. Service was not top notch compared to food price. Had to ask for a fork because server was too busy and forgot to give me one. Food was ok. Appetizer grilled oyster was not fresh and cold. Entree was ok. Desert was over sweet almost to bitterness. tasted like those cheap cakes warmed up in oven. I have been to many nice restaurants with similar price. This one did not impress me much. We had a great meal that was well prepared. Our server Haley was wonderful and attentive. We had She crab soup that was creamy and had a good amount of crab in it (also served hot and not lukewarm). Shrimp and Watermelon were a nice combination, dressing had little kick to it (would have liked it to be spicier because of my ethnicity). We also had Shrimp and Grits and of all the places that I tried in Charleston, this was more flavorful. Low country Pirlou was mild for my taste, but I guess that it is how it should be. It was very nice to eat seafood that was cooked just right and was not rubbery. Usually I don't like eating Lobster because they overcook it, but it was not the case. The service and atmosphere here was good but everyone in our family except one was disappointed with the food, especially given the rave reviews for this place. I had the low country pirlou and there wasn't anything particularly wrong with it, it just wasn't very flavorful. The black garlic aioli was a mere smear across the bottom of the plate that seemed to be more for decoration than a part of the flavor profile. My poor mom ordered a salad and they initially brought out the wrong dish, but when they "corrected" it with another salad, it still wasn't what she ordered. We couldn't figure out what salad it was supposed to be according to the ingredients on her plate and the descriptions on the menu. It almost seemed like it was a mix between two of the offered salads. She just ended up not eating because the salad she ended up with had lots of things she doesn't like. Given the quality of other restaurants in Charleston, I don't think we'll be back. read more

Having been to Charleston many times I've compiled a list of my favorite restaurants but during this trip we made it a goal to try some of the newer joints in town. We selected Revival at Vendue. After reviewing the menu a week in advance, I had high expectations and I must say, was not disappointed. The service was outstanding but more importantly the meal was also very good. In fact, the she crab soup was the finest I ever had and the rest of the meal stood our very critical test as well. While the service was generous, food generally very good and the ambience simple and charming, all of that was nearly negated by how incredibly slow the kitchen was with our entrees, especially seeing how light on patrons the restaurant was at the time. We got there at 5:40 and there was only one other table. By the time we finally got our entrees it was right after 7pm. It took our appetizers a while as well but the gap between that and entree service was almost an hour. Once we got the food it was quite impressive with the exception of the duck which was surprisingly fatty. Afterwards we heard from a couple of friends who ate there the other day and they said the same thing....that the kitchen was incredibly show with their food. Not only was this the best meal (out of a LOT of great meals) that we had in Charleston this week, but it was one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere. Everything, from cocktails to dessert was amazing. The burrata and tomato salad was one of the best things I've ever eaten. And the mango chai sauce in the avocado dessert was so good that I could have picked up the plate and drank it if that were socially acceptable. Service was fantastic. The food was extremely good, especially the she crab soup. This would be a 5 star rating if the ambiance was better, and the desserts were beyond disappointing. The lemon "cake" tasted like a stale muffin that was attempted to be elevated with some type of lemon sauce/curd. I was so happy to have come across this restaurant. I was looking for a restaurant with great ambiance, great seafood, affordable prices, and in the heart of downtown and Revival definitely checked all boxes. I was so impressed with this place. I was so surprised that I was able to walk in without a reservation. I think it's because they opened recently and word hasn't gotten out at how amazing the place is. My beau and I ordered the lump crabcakes, grilled scallops, mac and cheese, and the chopped salad. My favorite was the lump crab cakes- so much juicy meat, no fillers. It was so tasty, I wish I just had ordered two servings of it! My beau loved the mac and cheese and the grilled scallops were great too- though the serving was a bit small. In addition to the food, the waiter was fantastic, attentive but not hovering and the restaurant just had a great feel. It felt really classy. My wife and I just had a fabulous dinner at the Revival! Every aspect was top class. From the exceptional food (Shrimp and grits, and low country pirlou) wine (to include the wine list) the hostess, and the manager. My wife and I always found that all of those qualities are what is needed for a good restaurant. But what makes a restaurant and an evening exceptional is the service. This evening our server - Karis did exactly that - she made the evening exceptional. Karis explained the menu, how the name of the restaurant came about, her "favorites" on the menu and complimented the owner, the manager and coworkers. What a class act. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here on a quiet Sunday evening. The service was excellent, attentive but formal. The decor is a pleasant mix of old architecture with updated features. As our appetizers, we enjoyed the she crab soup and the hearts of palm salad very much! For our meals, the low country pirlou was excellent, but the forbidden shrimp and grits may be disappointing if you are looking for traditional shrimp and grits. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Had a great dinner at Revival last night. Our server was very knowledgeable about the dishes and shared stories about the ancient grains and unique ingredients used in the dishes. The shrimp and grits are not traditional, but were super tasty, the forbidden rice grits had a great texture. Other members of the table had fish dishes and thought they were delicious too. We were expecting very good things from Revival. We were staying at the Vendue and the staff talked up well. We made reservations for 7:30. I seemed like every table was seated between 7:00 and 7:30. Of course this made for a very long night. We ordered by 7:45?and due to the number of tables we were served our food after 9:00. Two out of four meals were served cold and were sent back. Ten minutes later the two of us were served an excellent meal. Management comped us free desert. Very good food but seemed liked they booked more tables than the kitchen could handle. read more

My new favorite place! We made a reservation because it's Saturday night in Charleston! After having a rooftop drink at The Vendue we arrived to an open and airy space that was clean and trendy. Seated at a perfect people viewing window table we were offered 3 kinds of water. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. The "revival" name comes from old Charleston foods and recipes they are bringing back and have on their menu. Reasonable pricing. Many options on the al a carte menu. We started with she crab soup and a tomato salad. Then a lowcountry pirlou that was a perfect summer seafood dish, and the best shrimp and black rice grits I have ever had. Not too heavy and portions were spot on. The wine suggestions were perfect. We split a peach clafoutis dessert with fresh berries and coffee. DEFINITELY put this one on your list. read more

I am not usually drawn to the restaurant in the hotel. However, Revival in The Vendue is a happy exception. It has the best old fashioned that I had in Charleston. The fig is a nice touch. Horrible! We are locals and wanted to try somewhere new for our anniversary. First thing we were told was that they were out of many of the items we wanted to order. After receiving our food, it was obvious they were cutting down or under portioning the items they had left. This is unacceptable at such high prices. They take reservations like any normal high quality restaurant so they should plan their supplies accordingly. We had 3 small scallops as an appetizer for $22. Really - 3 not even 4 for 2 people?! My husband's halibut was a tiny, dry, and completely flavorless slab. My lowcountry perlou was a few scattered chunks of crab and possibly lobster- nothing like the photo online. The roasted squash for the table was 3 slivers of dried-up acorn squash with a few scattered tasteless crumbs. Really- 3 pieces "for the table" for $9? They didn't even offer bread to try to make guests feel somewhat full. Obviously we didn't stay for dessert as we had planned to do. Our waiter seemed apathetic like he knew what was going on was bad but he had to finish his shift. He never asked how our meal was when it was served and why would he, with the high prices, waitstaff would get a good tip no matter what. We will definitely not be back and would advise people to try any of the other many great restaurants in Charleston. read more
