I go there almost every week and get a takeout order, today I was told they "don't do takeout" when I have done it in the past and was going to sit down and get a margarita. After I asked why the bartender rolled his eyes and walked away from me, completely ignoring me. I came here on a Friday night with a group of 8 people. We had to do a little bit of manoeuvring to get enough seats around a table, but we got it. We sat outside. The ambiance feels like you're on a tropical vacation. It's wonderful. Sarah was our server and she was fantastic! I highly recommend her as a server. I got the Painkiller drink. It was really good. Pretty strong, but good. My roommate got the Missionarys Downfall. That was so good and I'll get it next time I come for sure! (My other roommate thought it tastes like a garden, so to each his/her own.) We tried the fresh margarita and the house margarita. Fresh is better. We also got chips and salsa, a good addition to our drinks! The kitchen does close at 9:45 on weekdays and 10:45 on weekends, so plan accordingly. All in all, a great experience! read more

I hate Mexican food. Typically. My wife dragged me here on a rare, kid-free night. I stuffed myself on tacos and Wee-Mac, chatted up friendly bartenders/waitstaff, and had a great time. I could not get enough of the tacos. I loved the pork ones, and just kept eating and eating. Awesome stuff. And I ate the salsa. Seriously, it's like crack. It's the best salsa ever. INCREDIBLE! I've been hearing about this place for months and anticipating the day when the paper would be removed from the windows and welcome us. What a great place! Staff is terrific, the food is fabulous, and the atmosphere is equally great. I tried the fish taco and veggie taco and found them both to be tasty. However, if you want a flavor explosion in your mouth order the veggie taco! A favorite! Yum! Mango salsa. Everything is absolutely fresh and made daily. Living the Square and close to a lot of great restaurants within our neighborhood and downtown, this is probably my least favorite.. Let me explain. First off. The tacos are good but not great. I typically eat tacos like these at authentic joints in the city, and these just don't compare to the real thing. The price is ok considering the tacos aren't anything special..The only one I like is the potato..or papas taco. Also. This is what really brings their review down to two stars. You say you specialize in tequila but when I ask for a fresh margarita I get the bottle crap over ice. That's not what I asked for. I said FRESH. First off, my group was wowed by the awesome decor. Beautiful bright colors and masks/artwork covering the walls. Our party of four walked in, and not seeing any signs about waiting to be seated or any host/greeter in sight, we sat at an empty table. We were surprised to be ignored for about 20 minutes, until I grabbed a menu from a nearby table and noticed the note at the bottom about needing to order up at the bar. Awkward. Glad we know now, but a sign saying, "Seat yourself, order at the bar," at the doors would be helpful. We ended up moving outside to the tiki bar anyway, so no harm. I had heard about the spicy margaritas and had gotten my hopes way up, but it turns out they were a store-bought mix with chili salt on the rim. I'm not impressed by mixes, especially when it's so easy to make a good margarita from scratch. I ordered the shrimp tacos and chips and guac, which were delicious. The guac tasted fresh and homemade, and the tacos were yummy. Would definitely go back for these. I'm a strong supporter of local restaurants, so I will definitely be back to this fun new spot. It's only been open a month, and I'm sure it will only get better from here. Recommendations for the restaurant: get a computer system outside at the tiki bar, as you'll get swamped trying to manage all those orders on paper on full nights. Mixes for long islands and margaritas are no bueno -- you can do better and put yourself ahead of the norm. Keep up the good work on the food. The only reason I give this place a two is because I only had the food. So, this review is in no way directed towards the drinks. I didn't get one. With that being said. The place is a little expensive for the amount and quality of the food. It was not bad but 2 tacos are $6.95 and anyone who enjoys Hispanic foods will know that you can get two tacos for 3.50 to 4.50 at an authentic spot. We also got the blue cheese burger. It kind of fell apart but tasted alright. It was just missing something. Idk what but something. Lastly, the cheapest thing on the menu was the salsa which we got and had to add salt. So I'm not saying don't go there but I am saying maybe go when you want to have drinks and not just food. read more

The carnitas tacos are so fresh you will think they just pulled the roast out of the oven. They are that good. But the star of the show is the house made sauces. You never know what the chef is gonna whip up for a sauce but they are always fresh and full of awesome flavor. In addition there are great margaritas and a superb selection of beer choices. In the back, down the hallway there are a couple of doors that open onto one of the best Tikki bars I have ever visited away from the ocean. I had not been out the tiki porch for the first review, but this might be one of the best outdoor spots in the city. As a big fan of Radio Radio for years, I was VERY excited to hear that the owners were opening this new restaurant, "Revolucion". My wife and I arrived about 7:30 and it was slow, as perhaps expected on a Tuesday night. It was easy to find a seat, and it was nice to have space between tables so we could stretch out and sit comfortably, while also not being in other peoples conversations. Clearly if this place takes off, they will be able to increase seating and not have to expand the restaurant footprint. We were not sure what to expect on the menu as the theme is clearly Mexican with the bright colorful murals, sombreros and mask lining the walls. There was some kitchiness to it, kind of canned, but there was an effort to include unique, funky, more authentic art to give the restaurant the Fountain Square hip look and feel it deserves and clientele expect. And surprised we were. Surprised that the menu was so limited. Maybe the menu will expand as the clientele request variety. Given that they have over 80 varieties of Tequila, I'd hope for more than a 10 item menu. But, lets talk about what we did eat. My wife insisted on ordering the spicy potato appetizer so that she could compare it to the same dish she ate in Barcelona, and has searched for in vane for many years since. Revolucion did not disappoint; the potatoes were crisp, hot and covered in the wonderful brown, light and spicy sauce. A search now concluded as the best ever appetizer has been found outside of Spain. For dinner my wife had the Shrimp Taco's which she found very flavorful and of which I could not be denied a bite (or two, they were good). There was no piling on toppings and extras, thus the light, fresh spiced shrimp was easily enjoyed. I went with the traditional burger (cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion) on a bun. I really wanted something lighter, but it wasn't an option with the menu. The burger was on a bun that didn't do the rest of the sandwich justice. The bacon was wonderful, plentiful, thick slice, and meaty, it made my eyes smile when I saw it hanging out the sides of the bun. The burger itself was a thick 1/2 pound of very tasty beef, yet, I would have liked it to come out a bit juicer and less well done. The fries that come with the burger are enough for two to share, and I like that they don't salt the fries and let the customer manage salting to their taste. Overall, we will be back. In that time I hope that they include additional food items on the menu, add additional NON-Alcoholic drinks to the restaurant. read more

Came here for a quick bite at a bachelorette dinner. The bartender was very nice and talked me through finding a table for 10 since they don't do reservations. Be aware this place is usually very very busy when the weather is nice because they have an outdoor and indoor tiki bar and needless to say the day I showed up the weather was perfect and so there was absolutely no seating available outside. Luckily our party was cool with sitting indoors and we managed to find a table for 10. Service was a little bit slow I don't know if that was because of how busy it was but it seemed like it took nearly a half hour to get drinks and then place orders for the food. They have a wide range of drinks available but once again be aware there are mostly tequil -based drinks. However they are fairly cheap and strong so you can definitely get your money's worth here. The food is mostly tacos and some other offerings. Their guacamole and queso are TO DIE FOR as their homemade chips. The beef tacos were delicious but I would be interested to see how their tacos would taste with flour tortillas instead of the corn tortillas that they come with. All in all this is a very fun vibey place to hang out in Fountain Square and I am looking forward to coming back here and trying more of their drinks in the future, hopefully out in the tiki bar! read more

This place is fun and funky, and personally it is one of my favorite neighborhood joints. I see some have had no so great experiences, and I can imagine that happening, but it's too bad. Yeah, it's basically a bar, but a bar with food that I really like. As for drinks, they have craft beer, cheap beer, tequilas, a decently stocked liquor selection, and probably some wine although I've never looked for it. All I know is the bourbon selection is enough to keep me entertained, even if they are out of one (or even two). The fare is "not your average bar food". Tacos, burgers, even hummus and vegetarian options. The "unique sauces that come in squeeze bottles and are packed in a six pack carton" help make your meal fun as you try different combinations. I think the price points are very reasonable and can walk out of here with a lower tab than most other places in proximity, and well satisfied. The tacos are tasty and fresh and can be pork, chicken, veggie or even potato. If you like spicy, the Tijuana Torpedo is a burger that comes with fresh jalapenos, and yes the seeds are still in them. If your into "nacho business", then get the boat, add chicken, and you've got a meal for two at around 12 or 14 bucks. With the 50's tiki theme, the Mexican masks, and the "never know what you're gonna get service", the vibe here is funky. Depending on when you go, it can be empty, packed, full of hipsters, or some down home neighborhood folk, but if you are in for that kind of experience, this is your place! read more

Very reasonable prices. Service: Here's the downfall. Our server was really nice. I've had her on two separate visits. On my last visit I asked for water when she came and greeted me after I had been sitting for a few minutes. 15 mins later she returned and I asked for water again and a beer. 30 mins into the visit she came with my beer and water. I gulped the water down because it was in the 80's and it took about another 20mins to get a refill. After my group had joined me at the table earlier in the evening, it took about 10-15mins for our server to come over and take their drink order. I was disapointed in the wait times because I did not feel like she was engaged in managing her tables and we would sit with empty drinks while she spoke with her co workers at the bar here and there. I will likely return because I like the food, and atmosphere so much. However, I'll have to choose when to visit wisely because it will likely be a lengthy process to order based on the speed of service in the past. read more

I'll go if I'm waiting for a table to open up at a neighboring Fountain Square restaurant or if it's one of the only places open at an odd time, but I would never make a special trip here. It's usually crazy busy, especially on weekends, and I've had to wait a while for my order. Margaritas have a strong "from a mix" taste that I don't like. Tacos are fine, but nothing memorable. 3.5 stars. Tacos are good, hot sauces are fun, but the whole affair could be a little more affordable. This is definitely a solid taco joint (I've never tried their burgers so I can't really say much about them) and I'm never hungry after my taco basket and knock back a margarita, but I just have a small hangup about paying more than 5 bucks for tacos in a plastic basket. It's the principle of the thing. That being said, this is my #2 favorite place for tacos in Indianapolis. I wish the margaritas were a little stronger but they're very delicious so I don't mind having a few to get my buzz on. It's definitely a good place to go with friends or on a date - lots of couples and younger groups fill up the place on weekends. Weeknights are a little more subdued, which is actually kind of nice once in a while. Nice bar in Fountain Square. Really appreciated the large layout; we went with a large group of 10 at 8pm on a Friday and we were able to move a bunch of tables end-to-end. The waitress was also really accommodating and offered to split up the checks before she started taking our orders. The food was pretty good. I had the potato tacos and they were really tasty. I also liked the variety of hot sauces that they set out on the table. I was still a little hungry after two tacos, so if I went back I would probably get a side order of rice or beans. I got a mango margarita which was very sweet and not particularly strong. I think I'll stick with beer next time. read more

It's come to my attention that yelpers tend to be overly enthusiastic about a location or overy critical. This seems to be one of those situations. Revolucion has some great stuff going on. The ambiance is spectacular, just the right amount of divey with exceptionally well thought out decor. Many people have given shout outs to the Luche Libra decor but I'm going with the dia de los muertos artwork. It's all works very well together and gives the diner/drinker something to enjoy while they are there. The service was very prompt, which I appreciate, especially when dining alone. They took great care of me despite being hidden behind the beer tower in the only empty seat I could find upon my arrival. The beer selection is pretty great, I went with the Two Brothers tap, a beer I had never sampled before, I was very happy with the choice, it was a great beer. They have a small but good selection of local and craft brews to suit any appetite. As for the food it was probably the more forgettable part of my experience. I enjoyed the food, to be sure, but admittedly the other Yelpers set my expectations a bit too high on this one. The hot chipotle salsa was good, but did not blow me away and ditto the veggie tacos. The fresh made tortillas were a high point and but the veggie filling was just ok. I did leave just full enough off of just the two tacos, the portion is perfect for a meal without being too heavy. All in all the experience was good, they great service and awesome atmosphere covered for the foods lack of wow. This is a mandatory review. I am a regular. The menu at Revolucion is small. That is intentional. They only do a few things, but do them all well. My meat-eating friends love the shrimp tacos, and I've heard the pork is delightful. For meat free options, a potato and veggie tacos are available, and I FULLY endorse the veggie. A nice medley of sauteed veggies, black beans, and mango salsa makes them my favorite tacos in the city. They also offer an extremely unique assortment of hot-sauces to tailor the final touches of your dinner to your specific tastes. I recommend 'dirty deeds' for a slightly smokey bite. The black bean burger is also incredible. It can be a bit mushy, but has a chipotle flavor that reminds you this is a southwestern delight in an american package. Served with guacamole. I ask for pico de gallo to top it as well. It completes it nicely. The table service is outstanding. In fact, it keeps me coming back. After just a couple visits, my preferences were known, remember, and served by default. While many seem to love the Tiki bar experience, I despise it. The service can be slow (depending on who is bar tending), it is generally crowded, and does not have table service. This is disappointing, as I prefer outdoor eating, but cannot stand Rev's outdoor format. read more

Guacamole, fresh and tasty. Tried three salsas with chips (red, green, pink) and all were outstanding. Favorite was the spicy rim margarita. The name made me hesitant but glad I went for it. I just wasn't very impressed with Revolucion. We walked in on a Saturday night and immediately seated ourselves because it wasn't that busy. After looking over the menu I was disappointed that nothing really looked good. Maybe I am just not an authentic Mexican kind of girl? If that's what we want to say here. I thought about getting the steak tacos but the garnishes didn't sound appealing to me. I settle on chips and salsa and an order of fries and my date had the steak tacos and the "frozen" mango margarita. The mango margarita was hardly frozen at all. I just had little tiny bits of ice throughout the drink. I will say though that the flavor of the drink was nice. We probably got our food from our friendly waitress about 10 minutes after ordering so timeliness was good also. However, I don't understand why I paid five dollars for french fries and there were hardly any there. My date seem to like his steak tacos and the chips and salsa were pretty good. After we were finished I asked for the check in a to go Coke. I was told that they don't have to go cups. (No to go cups???) I told her that was fine and just bring the check. So we're sitting there waiting for the check for like 15 minutes and I've been out of Coke for about 10 minutes she comes to ask how we are doing. I remind her that we're still waiting for our check. All in all if you like to pay for overpriced la Bamba's and drink this is probably the place for you. It just wasn't my cup of tea. La Margaritas down the street is way better IMO. read more

I've been to Revolucion a couple times now as my cousin really likes it and while the drinks are good, I'm not super wow'ed by it. The first time I went, it was just for drinks. But this second time I stopped in, I had the fish tacos and it was just okay. While the tilapia was cooked nicely, it could have had more flavor to it. The fruit salsa that came with it was good but other than that, I probably wouldn't order it again. We also split the nachos and added chicken to it. I didn't have much, but the few bites I had, I enjoyed it. It's fairly big so it makes a great appetizer to split if you're with some friends. For drinks, I've had the Paloma, Missionary's downfall, and Saturn. They're all delicious but my favorite is the Missionary's downfall. The atmosphere is fun yet relaxing. The back area is all tiki themed and super adorable! They have two long picnic tables along with a good amount of other tables and 2 fire pits that you can sit around. Service is fine, not overly attentive but also not completely lacking. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but if I was in the area, I would stop in for drinks. read more

I go to La Rev for the spicy margs - chili infused tequila and a spicy salty rim - YUM, makes me a lil sweaty. I typically ask for them to be a "skinny" version (less sugar) although once (just once) one of the bartenders acted like this was a ridiculous request. The Mexican artwork is super dope, although I usually walk straight to the back for the tiki vibe, especially when it's warm outside! The food is not my favorite Mexican food, but it is pretty good - but again, the draw for me is the spicy marg! I've had shrimp tacos, chips/salsa/queso - all delightful enough! Good place to catch up with friends given the plethora of seating and seating options (picnic tables, bar seats, doubles, huge group tables, lounge couches, etc.). I must say, lotsa people like this place so it is usually kinda crowded! read more

I never expected to crave the understated and simple tacos from Revolucion. But, boy, do they wake up your mouth and leave you wanting more! These tacos (2 per order) are packed with spicy seasoned meat (my favorite is the chicken), and come unexpectedly unadorned. No heaping mounds of salsa and cheese atop these babies. On your first visit, that might disappoint you, because it may not be what you're used to - but take a bite of that taco BEFORE slathering it with the variety of green and red, mild and unforgivably HOT salsas that they have....you'll find that the meat is seasoned SO well, and perfectly wrapped with two soft corn tortillas (yes, TWO - with delish cheese stuffed between them!!). This is how *I* eat the tacos at Revolucion - pretty plain. With MAYBE a dip or two in their tomatillo (sp?) salsa. So yummy... I'm craving that today. read more

This is probably the most relaxing bar in Indy. We went to the tiki bar and it is like a place you see on a movie. It does fill up though. I did not experience slow service let's just say they are on "island time". The music is relaxing. The decor is fun. It is a nice break from reality. The tacos are amazing. I really loved the atmosphere in this place. They have a great front bar that is very warm and comfortable. In the back there is a tiki bar with a very nice deck that provides a great atmosphere. I think this place is a great addition to fountain square. I did not eat there, but all of the food looked very good and was inexpensive. I really like the fact that they have a nice selection of micro brews from all over the country and also cheap PBR and Miller High Lifes. It is a great place to relax after work. This place is what i consider to be one of the coolest neighborhoods in Indiaiapolis-fountain square. I have been here a few times due to my taco cravings when i was in the area. The tacos are good and i noticed that their meat is softer than most other places. I would like the meat to be a little more marinated than what they do though. i usually prefer chunky salsa and thus dont like their salsa too much. for people who like spicy minced down and watery salsa that can usually be added to tacos go for it. They also have a pretty good selection of craft beer on draft. I really do love their deal on house lagers and tequilas. they are 1 and 2 dollars respectively and in any city at anytime that has got to be a deal worth the trip. nice place to get some booze and dinner on a budget with a group of friends. read more

The summer weather has turned me into a Revolucion believer! The Tiki Bar and purgatory tiki bar (that's my term for the open-air area in between the restaurant and Tiki Bar) are great spaces - accommodating for large groups or small tables. The delicious shrimp tacos almost taste fresher when eaten outdoors! The Pain Killer drink is great, but if you ask for it to be kicked up a notch, they'll add a little something-something to it (shot of Pusser's rum) - and that's all you'll ever need. In all, it's an easy place to meet friends, grab snack/light meal and kick back with some drinks. (Although in the winter it's more crowded in just the front dining area and a little noisy.) read more
