Perfectly fine place for a perfectly fine, though unspectacular breakfast. Good service, plenty of seating (even for a group it looked like) and plenty of choices on the menu. One thing that I liked: if you order coffee, they leave a carafe full at the table. You don't need to wait for a refill and it's always hot. I ordered the spinach and feta omelet with hash browns. Very tasty and hash browns were crunchy and crisp, just the way I like them. The hubs ordered a South of the Border skillet which features chorizo. We have roots in South Texas so he knows his chorizo. He rated the skillet OK, but he laughingly said the name must have just meant south of the Canadian border (less than 30 minutes away) because it didn't go quite as far south as his taste buds were hoping. read more

Come hungry, this place will fill you up! Dinners here come with soup and salad as well as a bread basket of fresh out of the oven garlic sticks. They run daily specials so there is always something new. The pork chop dinner features three big chops, other selections are similarly portioned. I had a nice spinach pie special with rice and veggies (veggies were meh) and a big bowl of greek salad for a mere 8.99. Be warned you will be trucking home leftovers. The pancakes here are super. I had the fruit explosion varietal with fresh blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries stuffed with cream cheese and a berry compote sauce. Definitely a filling meal even for dinner. The side of bacon I asked for was five damn pieces and cooked to perfection. The red velvet pancakes are sure to please just about anyone as well, super yum. My husband's Monte Cristo one night was stuffed full and made him a happy camper with ham, cheese and everything on delicious pieces of french toast. He has also enjoyed an omelet one night stuffed with a plethora of meat, cheese, veg and hash browns. It came with an option of upgrading to thick raisin toast which was a delight too. Service has been attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is quite pleasant and always very clean. It is super convenient to my work, right on Telegraph. I last visited this place a couple years ago when it was a grossly mismanaged Dimitri's and was happy to see a change of ownership. The place has a more welcoming feel, with a nice tile host station and refurbished booths surrounding what look like the same tables. The menu is similar - coney island "everything under the sun" type of menu which I'm sure Robert Irvine would cut to the bone. We ordered the chicken lemon rice soup - much higher quality than most other diners or coney island restaurants in the area. Actual chunks of chicken and delicious flavor. I had the gyros. I didn't peek in the kitchen, but I have a feeling these were actually cut off a rotisserie - they had that crispy exterior and delicious flavor that the soft prepackaged gyros usually don't. Plenty of tomatoes and onions on the sandwich, too, and the yogurt sauce on the side was thick and tasty. I ordered the onion rings - the one big miss of my meal. They were thin and flavorless, and seemed straight out of a bag of frozen onion rings one could find at GFS. My companion's pasticcio was the star of the meal. It needed a bit of salt and pepper, but the creamy top, the bountiful and flavorful meat bottom, and the overall size of the dish - a gigantic plate heaping with pasticcio and rice with a tasty tomato-based sauce on top - made for a "we gotta come back" type of plate. The green beans on the side were a sad attempt at adding some health to the dish, and were rubbery and bland. I come to a place like Rex's for a hearty meal at a reasonable price with pleasant service, and I wasn't disappointed. This may supplant a certain coney island near my house as my go-to comfort food restaurant! Definitely give it a chance, and let me know what I should try the next time I'm there. read more

Not my go-to for simple, no frills breakfast. But when the missus wants something a little more exciting, we come here. The Monte Cristo is off the chain. Seriously, no chains involved. Just unabashedly decadent French toast with tons of Swiss and breakfast style ham, and berry jelly. Heart, be still. Their breakfast scramble are also pretty choice. And I learned today that they reheat very well, too. Coffee is served in your own personal carafe, which I love. Service is routinely very good, with the rare exception. Prices for your eggs, hasbrowns, and toast kind of breakfast are a bit much. But live a little while you're here, order something fun. You won't regret it. read more

Hmmm. I was expecting more. The reviews are great. The pictures look yummy. But it was just OK, for us. Weekend breakfast, so they were busy but not packed. The booth we were taken to had a sticky spot on my side. That happens (hello syrup). I'm not that person who gripes about sticky...but then I saw that the whole back half of our booth was dirty. Wrappers, stains on top of stains. Like the busser doesn't bend over all the way. Not. Cool. They cleaned the booth for us. I had the omelet with sausage gravy on it. Ken had the red velvet pancakes. Both were fine, not great. I've had much better gravy. We have plenty of better places between them and us. No need to go back anytime soon. read more

No joke, wife and I were fairly hungry. We left stuffed with best breakfast we've had in a long time. We were on our way to another place to get flowers for the yard. So, this place has staff whom are class acts whom care about their customers. And once again, I am told that the food was good by my wife whom forgot to tell me what she ordered for herself. However, I can say that the gyro was good. It had fresh tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. The tzatziki sauce was fresh and flavorful. I want to like this place. Great atmosphere for a diner/Coney Island and family-owned. However, the food I've had so far hasn't been that great. Not bad, just not anything I've really liked. This past visit, I had the greek salad with chicken. Came with their homemade greek dressing. Entire thing was bland; even the salad dressing. The first visit, I had some breakfast items including blueberry pancakes which I thought were bitter... granted blueberries were out of season. The family that runs the place is super friendly and kind-hearted (from an interaction with a stranger that I witnessed). I'm going to start by saying I only came in because I used to go to Dimitri's all the time. The sign is ridiculous and made me not want to try it. But I had nostalgia with Dimitri's so I decided to give it a shot. The place is nice; mostly updated. I got the breakfast special: eggs, meat, hash browns, toast for 2.99(!!) Everything was done well. The eggs were a little greasy, and the toast was a little untoasted (they must have the same old toaster) but for the price I can't argue. Service was quick and friendly.
