Came here 2 days ago. It was good. It is a cozy place. It's medium-spaced dining area, kind and helpful staff. Came here for breakfast and tried a country fried steak and eggs with champurrado. The steak was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside and tasted hand-breaded and not some frozen one that was warmed up. I also got to try the huevos rancheros. The salsa roja was tasty but spicy. We couldn't decided on which salsa and they have us some mole to try on the side which was kind of them. The champurrado had a good consistency but wasn't sweet at all. Everyone makes it differently. I ordered a sausage burrito to go, and my sis said it was delicious! The prices were reasonable for a restaurant. I would like to return and try the lunch menu. read more

My go to's are the stuffed French toast and chilequiles. This place is family vibes the have photographs hanging everywhere and I noticed the same few servers in the morning. A total local spot. We went here on a Friday evening after visiting King Richard's Antiques. It's in the same parking lot and they usually don't open in the evenings, but they said they're trying new hours so we were lucky that they were open. We asked what were their more popular dishes, so we had the Chilaquiles Plate and Big Green Omelet, while my son got the kid's meal French Toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. Both my wife and I shared our food and we really liked each dish, but I preferred the Chilaquiles Plate between the two. Also, our server was very nice overall, but maybe since the place was so empty, she rarely came around and it would have been nice if she asked for a refill on our drinks, but she never did. Nonetheless, I'm not lowering any stars for her service since it was good overall. I would say the food was good, but it wasn't amazing and that's why I'm giving it 4 stars. However, I heard it does get packed on the weekends for breakfast and brunch, so maybe I'm the anomaly since I heard it's a popular place. They also have a sizable outdoor seating area with umbrellas over each table so you're under the shade. The veggie omelette with hash browns and sourdough taste was so good and satisfying. She was quick with the refills! My daughter and I came here for breakfast. Though the food was enjoyable, the service was atrocious. I loath using Race as a talking point, but I have to say, my daughter and I are both noticeably White. That being said, we put our name in, at least 4 other people put their in After us. The girl called everyone else's name, mind you in Spanish. I went in and asked about us, she proceeded to just Point at an empty table, no words at all. At this point I decide to stay JUST to see how this was going to play out. As I expected, we were not addressed Until I approached the server, took my order without any comments... food arrived, no utensils, after asking for some, twice, it took about 10 min. our table was never approached again. As I travel and explore new places , I came across this place that was said to be the spot.. well sorry to let you guys down , but the worst place I've ever. Hard to miss little gem. Came by after years of passing by the antique shop. Very homey, grandma's house feel. Everyone was very pleasant and welcoming. Service was over the top. Husband and I got the same dish, the chimaquiles special. Ordered them medium spicy. They were excellent. Perfect crisp to them and not all soggy. Love coming here for breakfast. Service has always been great and the prices are good. I've never had to wait for a table and the waitresses are very friendly. The restaurant feels homey and welcoming. Even though I'm not a big fan of chilaquiles in general, I really love THEIR spicy chilaquiles. I also like their chile relleno. In the colder season, I always try to order a champurrado. They serve it in a jarrito and it comes with a little pastry on the side. I have only tried it with the red sauce and the sauce included in the chilaquiles is not very spicy. You have the option of adding carne asada for i think $6-7? First time visiting Rey's Lil' Kitchen. Arrived fairly early on a Saturday morning and we were the only ones there, but that quickly changed as it eventually got crowded. We were seated in the larger dining area and our drink orders were promptly taken. Coffee, waters and champurado. Orders were next and our plates were brought out very quickly. The pozole was excellent, the broth was not greasy and the chunks of pork were very tender. It was served with your choice of flour or corn tortillas. We opted for the corn and they seemed to be homemade, very good. The bacon and eggs were....bacon and eggs. Nothing too special. Service was excellent at Rey's as the waitresses and waiters frequently came by to fill our mugs of coffee and see if we needed anything else. There are two rather large dining rooms that were clean with ample seating. All in all a good dining experience at Rey's Little Kitchen. read more

It was my first time here. I always like supporting small businesses. Reyna, who is Rey's mother, was our server and she was great. Food was delicious. We'll definitely be coming back. I'm updating my review because on my second visit I left disappointment. I ordered the same thing as it did the last time because I really enjoyed it. But this time I ask for extra cheese on my omelette. What would that normally cost anywhere else and additional $.50 or $.75? When I received my bill, I noticed she charged me an extra two dollars for extra cheese. $2 for a sprinkling of cheese on my omelette?? I brought it up to her and she said that's what they charge. Bustling cafe especially for the fact that it's hidden behind an antiques shop. Many families & groups so the parking is always crowded. Parking is available in the private lot as well as on the street. Spaces are limited on weekends. No frills, rustic & quaint is how I'd describe the vibe. It's obviously a hole in the wall in what looks like a converted warehouse. You can't really tell there's an eatery until you are actually in the parking lot. Reyna has always been so helpful adding the onion, cilantro, lemons and tortillas warmed and wrapped. We take our pot the day before, pick it up filled at 8:30am. Always timely & pleasant pickup. Came here for lunch since it's right off the Whittier greenway bike path. Since it's a Sunday, expect to wait about half an hour. You can write your name on the wait list. Seems a bit short staffed today so the wait for the food took a bit longer too but it was worth it! I love it when food comes out piping hot because it was just feshly made and quickly brought out. I love nopales but don't know how to make it so I ordered it and loved it! Great portions and really delicious. We also ordered the chile Verde con huevos and the meat was nice and tender.
